> “Well they survived long enough to achieve space flight,” Forty-five Trills pointed out. “They can’t be too careless with explosions, can they?” ...
... said no-one familiar with the history of human rocketry.
On which subject, did you know that Ignition! is back in print? Now that book definitely shouldn't be taken as a challenge.
That is correct. Our weapons are designed to kill. Evidence has shown that 5.56 x 45 mm rounds are effective at short to medium ranges, for which they were designed. Shots that wound but do not kill are the result of shot placement rather than an intentional design aspect of the bullet or weapon. To quote this article (pdf download):
"Shot placement trumps all other variables"
(Pg 7, pt 2)
Also according to this book:
"Military doctrine has never been simply to wound the enemy, and a wounded enemy might still be able to fight back. Granted, there are instances when the enemy attempts to wound soldiers and use them as bait to fire on rescuers, but such incidents are simply taking advantage of the situation. Weapon developers do not design firearms with the aim of only wounding the enemy."
(Middle of the first paragraph.)
You know what? I am awesome. But I'm still not taking any credit. Just ignore little old me over here in the corner.

If there is ever a day I won't take the opportunity to encourage people to support u/Squigglestorystudios it is not this day.
If I'm recalling correctly the only mention of 'horse's weight is "around half a ton" (1000 lbs) which is really early in the series and if I'm remembering it may have been by /u/Ctwelve during a chapter of Good Training. It's also been mentioned frequently that he max's out a pallet scale, which after some quick googling is around 5000 lbs (2.5 tons, link below).
I agree, some of the scales are mind boggling and ridiculous, but I think this is why Hambone rarely use actual numerical figures, just so we can figure it out ourselves, and keeping those figures straight would (as we can tell by the above) would be a job in itself.

> I usually use open office
Look into using LibreOffice instead, It is a continuation of the same open source code base that was OpenOffice with many of the original developers that used to work on OpenOffice working on LibreOffice instead after the branding for OpenOffice long story short was acquired by a company that doesn't have the best track record for holding the same values as the open source community so the community got together and made LibreOffice. These days OpenOffice is literally years of development time behind and in a far far worse shape then LibreOffice and all the mindshare in the development field is on LibreOffice with OpenOffice sometimes taking over a year to get a fairly simple security fix out that LibreOffice due to being based on the same source also had but they fixed it in a couple of hours.
TL;DR Use LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. https://www.libreoffice.org/

I'm starting to read references and connections to the following:
1) Wing Commander, the games
2) The Wing commander Extended Universe book series, specifically this book: https://www.amazon.com/Fleet-Action-Commander-William-Forstchen/dp/0671722115
3) Not to forget the Dahak series by David Weber
any other pre-Internet inspriational material I've missed? :)
On a side-note, I wonder how Allie would fair if after the mission, post-war, she & Katherine get a explorer-class ship & mission and run into something like the Moties from Niven/Pournelle duology, if you're read that series?
That said, as I've loved every series you've written in tthe past, I love this series, I love the characters & the story; I can't wait to see where all you take to by the end of this story!!!! :)
Thank you again, and please keep track of yourself & your health as you work on the next section!

>A race rumored to possess unfathomable abilities.

Control is an exercise of power, and this chapter is about control. Otric's attempts to keep control of his life, Julius's attempts to use his limited power to help humanity, and John's loss of control to People Person and Healthy Growth. Also Psychopomp trying to get power over Lial by fostering a dependency on the Black Room, but they don't really show up here.
I have a standalone short story that will go up tomorrow or Monday, and I am thinking of writing some world building docs on the background of this story and posting them to my profile sometime soon.
/r/HFY rec: Mister Miracle by Tom "CIA" King and Mitch Gerads. Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, is the greatest escape artist to ever live, but there is still one trap that still looms. What can no man, woman, or child escape from? Death. The series follows Scott's struggles with depression as he and his wife Barda cope with his failed suicide attempt. Meanwhile, Scott's mind seems to break down as Darkseid seizes the Anti-life equation, and with it, the power to rewrite reality itself. War is brewing, and Scott will need all his tricks to get escape this one. Incredibly dark, raw, brutal, and even uncomfortably funny. A veggie tray shouldn't make you laugh, but it will. TYAN is one of my favorite series here and I think you have done a splendid job at creating a believable set of Xeno races.
I think that reviewer is missing a point. The galaxy at large makes advancements in the following manner:
It's the Apple closed garden approach to tech applied at a galaxy scale. Surely there are some beings out there who understand how such things work and almost certainly there are better designs here and there (in various stages of adoption). There are also massive vertical technology walls between companies trying to protect their interests.
There may very well be multiple different versions of FTL in this universe (the Dulutewae wouldn't know, most societies out there simply accept working tech rather than spending years figuring it out); as long as it functions in a basically compatible way nobody would notice they were different underlying technologies. Imagine handing someone in 1850 a Galaxy S5 and an iPhone 6 and asking them to explain how they are different. Both are simply magic bricks that can see (take photos/video) and light up and let people communicate over impossible distances.
Humans would probably eventually fall into the same trap. It is a simple matter that step 1 happens so often that no individual society can keep up with everything (large parts of the galaxy are post [singularity](/r/singularity)). We'd come down to the option that either we limit our intake of advancement from others to the rate which we can learn (and essentially stop progressing on our own) or accept things we don't understand.
There is a Creative Commons license for exactly this situation, and it's the same one I use.

You may want to consider inserting that in a legal disclaimer at the start of your work.
Not sure yet about the theme thing.
I created the map using Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator. It's a free tool anyone can use. Takes a little while to learn how to use it though.
When you load (or refresh) the page, it generates a completely new and random map. If you like one and want to save it, you can click on the arrow on the top left and then click on "Save As" and select the .map option. You can then go back to the site later and load your .map file to begin working with it again. You can also download it as an image (PNG file) but if you want to be able to continue working on it then you definitely need to save the .map version.
One of the cool things is that you can modify the "height-map" and basically regenerate all the secondary material (like rivers, etc.) based on the new heights. Changing the heights can also change the shape of the land masses. I took a randomized map and then modified the height-map to create something that was closer to what I was wanting.
Anyway, definitely something fun to play around with!
Ah, right. Changed it to the Drake Equation and fixed the caps thing (I can never remember, and I tend to default treat the section after a semicolon as a new sentence).
I totally agree I use too many commas, but damn, when I try and edit it down in Hemmingway, I feel like I'm pulling my own teeth in doing so.
This was intended to be a one-off. If I can re-tell any other excerpts from another character's viewpoint in a way that makes a good short story, I'll serve it up here. Other explanatory tidbits:
Reddit's character limit will not permit me to fix the typos and other mistakes, so my apologies for these errors will have to suffice.
The blue-eyed man is the main character in the book from which this comes.
Dergon's home planet is called Daneel in English. Aside from the way they are colored, Daneelians and humans are physically the same.
Teramma has a girl, which she names Dergoe (which is a girl's name on Daneel). Dergon doesn't feel worthy of this honor and tries to talk her out of it. They'll probably get married.
Earth is here known by the name Tellus. This is homage to the Lensman series, which is highly recommended to all fans of the HFY sub-genre.
Kardi and the young man (named Nathan) are married. You can read how that came about here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/826554 (also on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074SFR5FL/).
Daneelians and Tellurians can have children together. Nathan and Kardi don't know this (yet).

You might be interested in the book Not by the Sword. It's a worthy read.
The Amazon blurb:
>Not by the Sword tells the inspiring true story of how a Jewish cantor and his family changed the life of a virulent white supremacist leader. This riveting account begins in 1991, when Cantor Michael Weisser received his first threatening phone call from Larry Trapp, Grand Dragon of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Nebraska. But Cantor Weisser and his wife, Julie, refused to be intimidated by Trapp's escalating threats. Instead, they made a stunning offer of friendship. After an emotional confrontation with the Weissers, Trapp shocked everyone—including himself—by resigning from the KKK and breaking his ties with other neo-Nazi leaders.
>Not by the Sword recounts Larry Trapp’s life as a racist, his startling transformation in response to the Weissers’ kindness, and his subsequent crusade to redeem his past. Kathryn Watterson movingly describes how one family feared, fought, and then forgave a man who had tried to destroy them.
>This gripping tale gives the reader an inside view of hate mongering and offers a powerful testament to the triumph of the human spirit and the transforming power of love and tolerance.
Lovely story, BTW. The militaristic ones are fun, but this one... This one is special. Thanks for that.

Once I've managed to re-establish myself as 'having a job', I'll try and set some kind of schedule. I'll try not to be too prolific, but if we're going this route then I will try and set up some sort of buffer so that when I go to Europe for my month-long adventure I can still upload updates without needing to write during that time. The same would be true of other major life events, I suppose.
As a point of reference, you can find Reddit's Markdown guide here, and the official reference for Markdown (which is implemented and used by a variety of other sites as well) here.
The website now uses a basic wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get) editor for post and comment creation, so the issue with markdown generally only applies to people who intentionally switch to the older editor, or those posting from mobile.

Steven King's On Writing is worth checking out. It's part memoir, but there's also a lot of really good practical advice and general wisdom in the book that has helped me over the years.
It's also a pretty fast, entertaining read.
Maybe instead of flat-out copying weapons of the time, you could implement military texts and doctrines (such as The Art of War) in your stories? Have humanity stun everyone when they announce they've been writing about warfare since they invented writing. Perhaps use a few historical examples of battles or legends in a future setting?
As an example, you could take the legend of a great, ancient Chinese general (I forget who), who was facing a larger and stronger force. He had to defend a city, but knew that his current army was insufficient to defeat the attackers. So, what he ordered was for the gates of the city to be flung open, with street-sweepers going about their business in the background while he sat on the city walls, playing a flute. His army was hidden away. When the attacking force arrived at the open gates, they feared trickery. They had heard of the General's fearsome reputation and became disheartened and fled, sure that the city was a trap. The city was defended without a single drop of blood spilled.
Maybe a story involving such sheer, ballsy cunning and bluffing in the face of a complete slaughter could do very well on this sub.
I know I'm late, but I'm trying to be more active in the sub and this gave me a good opportunity. The word "Mayhap" is actually a word, and was first used in the mid 1500s. Mayhaps seems to just be an odd portmanteau of maybe and perhaps, but I don't know for certain whether George R. R. Martin can be given credit for just adding an 's' to a word that existed long before he did.

right. it means decorated. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/adornment
donned is the act of putting something on
as a side note: doffed is the opposite of donned, it's the act of taking something off. usually used in relation to headwear. no bearing on the discussion, just thought it was funny.

I would recommend The Fear Saga, by Stephen Moss (amazon.com). It has its issues, but overall, I really enjoyed it, even if the audio version is like 60 goddamn hours long.
Hell yea! here it is on Amazon.

I reccomend https://www.amazon.com/Soldiers-Duty-Theirs-Not-Reason/dp/0441020631 by Jean Johnson. Unlike the majority of her work, this series isn't a smut filled romance (although those are fun too). The prequel trilogy is very HFY, as Humanity takes its first steps into the universe, though that is less military and more political.
"...war is not merely an act of policy but a true political instrument, a continuation of political intercourse carried on with other means." -Carl von Clausewitz
“When you surround an army, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard.” -Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Her goal is NOT genocide, even if her enemies' is. Her goal is to cease the attempts at genocide against humanity. If she decides that any population center is fair game, then she'll have reduced herself to a terrorist and ultimately proved the Council's point to their citizens that humans are a brutal and never to be trusted. She'll have turned the whole of the civilizations against her species and thus even removing the institutions that perpetuate that attack against humanity won't stop the belligerence. Every citizen of a Council species will fear for their lives and do their absolute best to contribute to the genocide. She'll have destroyed any hope of extracting anything short of total surrender out of her enemies, something she can ill afford given how outclassed they are.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military targets, it's true. They housed extensive military factories and ports. However even that was not perpetrated soullessly, the bombings were announced well ahead of time and cities like Kyoto were stricken from the list of potential targets because they held no significant military facilities. Even though those cities often contained VIPs and large populations that could contribute to the military apparatus.
TL;DR She wants to break their will to fight, not strengthen their resolve.
A similar sentiment:
>Asteroid Miners (which wasn’t the title, but that’s close enough) was an important book in my life as a reader. Almost everyone can remember losing his or her virginity, and most writers can remember the first book he/she put down thinking: >>I can do better than this. Hell, I am doing better than this!
>What could be more encouraging to the struggling writer than to realize his/her work is unquestionably better than that of someone who actually got paid for his/her stuff?
From Stephen King, in "On Writing". Great book / guide for aspiring writers.
For role-playing, I'd suggest Roll20.net as a starting point. There are other sites out there, but it's a good Free2Play option to get your toes wet and hopefully find a game. I went over a decade without a game too, and that site helped me get back into the hobby.

“Three of you?” the commander said with a puzzled look.
In this context, Commander should be capitalized because it's a title, like President or Queen.
When it says "I was deemed commander" that could be capitalized too, but an argument can also be made that it's simply referring to a position, like secretary or doctor.
Go for it! It's not like I'm much of a Tamil speaker myself, I just like learning writing systems from around the world. Memrise has a Tamil script course if you feel like giving it a try. And it's satisfying to learn about a language that has such a lengthy, unbroken chain to its literary past.
One of the big benefits of being an English speaker is that as you learn the orthography of a language, tons of direct loanwords will make themselves present, and there's a good chance English will have wholesale absorbed some words from the language in question as well. It's thanks to Tamil we have the word Mango (மாங்காய், lit. maangaai), for example, and the number of English loanwords that have found their way in to Tamil would fill a small dictionary. A tremendous amount of the world opens up, even if all you ever study is the sounds a writing system makes. It's fun stuff. :)
The formatting system reddit uses is called Markdown, and if you want to be certain that what you’re writing will be displayed correctly here, it might not hurt to look at (free) Markdown editor apps for your platform of choice. Several of them use a side-by-side layout that shows a live-updating rich text preview of what you’re writing on the plain text side. Not that I’m saying you should write the whole story in a Markdown editor, just if you have reddit-specific content or comments you want to compose in advance. :P
That's actually pretty close to how I envisioned them. If anyone asked, I was planning on posting a link to This webcomic I had found that I felt was also pretty close to what I had in mind. (I rate the comic 4/5. If you're interested in webcomic recommendations, talk to me.)
Let me know if you need any advice. I've been on the cusp of publishing various projects for years (paper-and-dice RPGs mostly) but have never felt satisfied enough with the product to do so, but I've done tons of research on things like layout and print-on-demand options for those who like a physical product. Novels are typically less demanding than game books when it comes to layout, and e-pubs and mobi files are almost layout-free, but not entirely.
Just as a start, I would recommend looking into calibre for file conversions, if you're not already familiar with it.

Honestly, if you have any external microphone, it's probably enough. I'm using the podcaster's basic ATR-2100, on it's USB connection.
As far as audio recording software, using Audacity would be ideal, as it's what I'm using to record right now. Just make sure you listen to 'silence' in your recording space for a minute or two - often you'll notice that the fridge, the ac/furnace, the dog, etc. is more easily picked up than you might think. But you've got a little while to figure that out - I want to reduce complexity, so I won't be using non-me narrators for like another month or two.

Reading the description for book 5 i can understand. As soon as the full 5 are ready i'm buying a set. Maybe 2 and leaving a copy somewhere to be found.
There is a list on this HFY thing somewhere with a lot of pre-reddit HFY type stories. I really like the Phillip K Dick war series (I forget what it is called) which is basically the same sort of 'humans come from a death world' vibe.
My 'Wings' book on Amazon's Unlimited has no aliens, but has humans doing cool stuff. Another that is Humans being Cool without aliens (but with tech and magic) that I am currently reading on Unlimited is Starship's Mage. I think aliens are going to show up at some point, but they haven't by book 8. :D
Anyone got the link handy for the HFY posting with 'other' fiction?
In case anyone is interested in similar content, I've got three books available on Amazon, all of which are free through Kindle Unlimited.
The latest is called <em>At the Pace of Man</em>, and the HFY themes don't end with the title!
How similar is the insect population to earth? It’s labour intensive and alcohol in needed, but some of the first insulation for electronics was Shellac. Plus the other uses.
I don't have any specific story suggestions that you probably haven't already read, but if you need/want a good writing resource, something that I've found invaluable is Ben Bova's The Craft of Writing Science Fiction That Sells.
It's incredibly useful in terms of structure, plot, theming, worldbuilding, conflict, etc. It's only about $10 on Amazon and you can find copies online as well. I've had my copy for years and it's been incredibly helpful for my writing process (the only thing holding me back is procrastination).
Sorry for the late reply! I have the link to the Amazon page at the bottom of the chapter, or, alternatively, you can click this handy link!
Edit: thank you so much for considering buying it, it means the world to me!

I don't think there's a book of this yet, 5 parts seems kinda small for a book.
As far as I know there's the two major parts of Transcripts by /u/squigglestorystudios, part one which is done, and posted here, and that's what the book covers, Part 0 (prequel) is in progress now.

The name of the novel is "Design for Great-Day". The short story is actually part of the novel, with most of the story fleshed out by Foster.

I figured, i had to remember the point about Humanity having no warfleet of any real discription and not wanting entire worlds to burn against an enemy they couldnt fight.
Sun Tzu's The Art of War: "In difficult ground, press on; On hemmed-in ground, use subterfuge; In death ground, fight."
I can't add much to what has already been listed,
Spinward Fringe by Randolph Lalonde, it's eh in my opinion considering nothing really happens in the first book but you can't complain about the price, free!
The 'Looking Glass' series by John Ringo is a personal favorite of mine. It can get pretty heady with the SF mumbo jumbo at times, and is never short of deus ex machina, but Ringo really knows how to write small unit combat sequences. Very easy reads.
Also any of the halo series. Especially the ones by Greg Bear. The guy is a world building master mind.
After having spent two hours in complete agony and two days being unable to touch my eyes or dick after trying a single drop of some pure 6.4 million Scoville capsiacin extract, this story filled me with a lot of pride :')
Super happy to see you all liked it! I wasn't planning on turning this into a series, as the concept was so heavily inspired by Evan Curry's very good, super HFY-ey Odyssey One series, but I do have a few ideas on how to expand things from here. Hmm..
The Ciaphas Cain Series - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ciaphas-Cain-Imperium-Sandy-Mitchell/dp/1844164667
The tales of an Imperial Commissar who unwittingly makes a name for himself as Hero of the Imperium, vanquishing Necrons, an Ork Waaagh, Traitor Space Marines, Genestealer cults and a Tyranid splinter fleet amongst others while courageously trying to advance in the opposite direction! Basically it's Harry Flashman set in the Warhammer 40k universe and it's pretty damn awesome.
I would definitely recommend as it brings a bit of humour into the grimdark 40k universe.

I actually just put the original back up because we're running a bit longer than I thought on the 2nd edition. It should be the same link: https://www.amazon.com/Exigent-Circumstances-Book-Path-Exigents-ebook/dp/B0B66CCV7B

I took it offline a little while ago because I'll be uploading the second edition with some edits and a new cover. There's also an audiobook coming. But this all was taking a bit longer than I thought, so I actually just put the original back up today.
It should work now and should be the same link: https://www.amazon.com/Exigent-Circumstances-Book-Path-Exigents-ebook/dp/B0B66CCV7B
I read a book recently with a similar premise, it's called "Year Zero."
https://www.amazon.com/Year-Zero-Novel-Rob-Reid/dp/0345534514
Essentially music is the highest form of art in the galaxy, and humans happen to be orders of magnitude better at it than anyone else.
But that one is comedy. I really like the addictive angle in your story.
>How would we react to a people, who are more than capable of understanding and achieving independence, but chooses not to?
Do you mean for example like if some country does not want have "Freedome" in form of Democracy.
No problem! If you prefer a kindle or paperback version, he has the first 7 books worth of posts on Amazon: Amazon link to the series
The first 7 books are on Amazon (including kindle edition) already! And that’s only about halfway to what is on HFY.
Good question! The truth is, I try to leave as much as possible up to the discretion of the reader with all my characters' appearances. Physically, she's around 5'10" or so when standing normally and has lavender skin and long black hair. She has all the other normal dyrantisa features. I have never actually described a typical dyrantisa face in detail, so however you think their faces are supposed to look is technically correct.
Go here and click on the picture to look inside the book:
https://www.amazon.com/Exigent-Circumstances-Book-Path-Exigents-ebook/dp/B0B66CCV7B
Then a window will open to start reading, but it will open at either the first chapter or the preface. But if scroll all the way up before that, you'll see a picture of her. That is just one possible interpretation, and more belonging to the artist based on my description, not necessary myself. Although I obviously approved. You could take a look at my old Indiegogo campaign here:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/exigent-circumstances/x/18749689#/
I think you can click around on that page and find the images I posted, including a different artist's interpretation based on the exact same description I provided. I'm quite impressed with how much variation exists.
Hello there! This is the beginning of a new series!
I would just like to add a shameless plug here. There exists a prequel to this story which I published on Amazon. A short story which fleshes the world out a bit, though it is not necessary to read it to follow this series. You can support me by buying the book or reading it on Kindle Unlimited :)
Here it is! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BL2K8C61
Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated!
HAPPY MONDAY!
My vacation was cut short because it was stressing me out.
We'll be doing Mon/Fri posts for a week or two, then Mon-Wed-Fri, then we'll go back to full Mon through Friday postings.
My mental health tech wants me to take it slow even though I want to hurry up and get back to writing.
In other news, Book Seven is out!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHSCSX2Z
Those of you who have bought the other books, it would really help me out if you left a review. :-) I'd really appreciate it.
Anyway, good to see everyone here again, and I'll see you either Friday or if the urge to write gets too strong and I start getting edgy.

His thoughts were the foundation used that allowed Germany to win the Franco-Prussian war. Rommel was a genius in desert warfare.
Unfortunately, it appears the author moved the story off reddit and onto kindle. Patreon indicates that at least half the story (ch 18-32) didn't make it to reddit before it was deleted
Trying something a little different today since each chapter is two scenes taking place at roughly the same time, I thought it might be a good idea to split them up, either like this with one chapter and two posts, or perhaps as two shorter, more digestible chapters. I don't know if I'll post them on the same day or perhaps have a secondary publishing day later in the week. Tell me what you think.

Also, you can still get u/andrews_2nd_account's novel on IndieGoGo, and now you can buy the E-book on Amazon. If you're interested, I'd like to encourage you to go check it out.
A BIG insspaeation for the Precursors War Mashines is this… Currently rereading the Berserker (1967) so far I’ve found C+ drives C+ cannons a marine with a paint stick, martian battle armor, berserkers autonomous war machines who attempt to commit biological warfare and ||cure cancer?||,Stratigic Housings spotted… fast 50 mile transport elevators spotted… https://www.amazon.com/Berserker-Saberhagens-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00A4Q4FLK
OP, it seems your D&D notes might not be suited to a hierarchical folder structure. Have you tried using referential structures like a document graph? I personally use Obsidian since about half a year and I'm very happy with that one.
Good to see Patton’s name Remains.
Ah, yes. “They Enemy cannot predict us if we don’t know what we are doing!”

If you are ok with Amazon/Kindle, yes. Otherwise, not to my knowledge. Here’s book 1: https://www.amazon.com/Behold-Humanity-May-Come-Book-ebook/dp/B09H5KNGM4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=2TX18EJYTK443&keywords=first+contact+ralts+bloodthorne&qid=1654097231&sprefix=first+contact+ralts+bloodthorne%2Caps%2C79&sr=8-1
This one was my first published short story ever: in this anthology, written back before “humans are weird” was even a thing. Is it any surprise I love this trope?
Nice.
Jean Johnson addressed a similar concept in her duty series.

She also wrote a prequel trilogy which addresses humanities entrance into the war and sets up the 200 year interdiction.
So... cannibal aliens, no empathy. No one has the stomach for genocide, so we beat them, isolate them to a handful of planets, and contain them. For 200 years. The whole time they have been scheming, and stealing tech. They break out, and the war starts back up. Then we end up forcing them to genocide themselves.
You might look at using Obsidian ( https://obsidian.md/ ) to organize your notes. It takes a while to wrap your head around its arraignment and pattern, but I have found it useful.
Love the story , the real characters, the interwoven plot line, and damn good writing has put it in my top 5 list of HFY.
I realized I forgot to talk about the art of The Last Human.
For Book #1, I worked with a great cover artist who helped me put together a vision for the cover. With the help of my patrons, I also commissioned an “in-world” map of The Cauldron.
You can <strong>see the art in high resolution here.</strong>
And if you haven’t yet, you can preorder Book #1 here.
I promise more marketplaces coming soon.
OK, let’s talk about this chapter…
Sometimes, the tide goes out. Sometimes, you find yourself hung high and dry.
You never know when fortunes might change.
Laykis finds herself with a newer body, not entirely her own (Khadam has planted a few failsafes inside her). But I think Laykis hasn’t lived this long - and apparently, escaped the Sovereign Swarm itself - without learning a few tricks of her own.
Meanwhile, the Once Queen of Gaiam finds herself in possession of a truly god-given power. Not some goggles that can see through walls, nor a weapon that can cut through stone - but something so much greater.
What do you think she might build?
