It's something both white racists and black people in the South have known since forever.
>Southern aristocrats that felt their way of life disappearing held the protection of white women as a symbolic, and practical, justification of violence. In the symbolic sense, the hegemonic perpetuation of “sexual panic” touched on the open nerves of an insecure patriarchy. After generations of white plantation owners raping black female slaves, southern whites not only feared reprisal in a less controlled environment, but they also had shaped a discourse around black female hypersexuality that they now transferred to black males. In this configuration, the free black man was stereotyped as the “black beast,” a “savage” incapable of controlling their sexual and violent desires without the restrictions of the plantation social order.
>* Evans, Ivan T. <em>Cultures of Violence</em>.
One of the most important post-bellum symbol of chivalry (masculinity/patriarchy) was the "pure white woman". They armed themselves to the teeth to protect the "pure white woman" myth based on their masculine insecurities and fear of a black reprisal. This trope was depicted on Confederacy money which featured pictures of black women working cotton fields and idle white women. Birth of a Nation also revealed more of their sexual panic, but it's been that way before the Reconstruction. The same people raping black women will lynch a black man or boy for looking at a white woman. That's why they bug out about white 'genocide' or anything that challenges their social and sexual insecurity.
If you haven’t read the book, Medical Apartheid by Harriet Washington , please do! It’s an excellent and easy to follow chronological explanation of the medical experimentation on Black people
No... only because you can do that. You can filter subreddits. Ever since /r/The_donald
this is becoming more and more popular. You might even be able to do it on vanilla reddit but you can definitely do it with Reddit Enhancement Suite.
Reminds me a bit of Joss Whedon:
>"So, why do you always write these strong women characters?"
>Because you're still asking me that question.
Thanks for the link! There's a whole book called Black Jacks about black American seamen, though I'm not sure if it mentions Shorey specifically--he was a little outside the time range it focuses on.
Another version of that video that was posted in the main reddit thread. Look at the sniveling little shit at the end when it dawns on him that it's being recorded.
It's not even shots fired.
Everyone knows its the fucking truth. This woman wouldn't do anything that wasn't an attempt to be politically expedient or to further her career.
EDIT: Point proven: https://theintercept.com/2015/09/09/hillary-clinton-goes-militaristic-hawkish-think-tank-gives-militaristic-hawkish-speech/
>I will deepen America’s unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security, including our long standing tradition of guaranteeing Israel’s qualitative military edge. I’ll increase support for Israeli rocket and missile defenses and for intelligence sharing. I’ll sell Israel the most sophisticated fire aircraft ever developed. The F-35. We’ll work together to develop and implement better tunnel detection technology to prevent arms smuggling and kidnapping as well as the strongest possible missile defense system for Northern Israel, which has been subjected to Hezbollah’s attacks for years.
This is the Democrat front-runner.
So props to her for her unconditional support of an apartheid state.
Yes, this is also a children's book: Hair Love by Matthew Cherry, with illustrations by Vashti Harrison. (Cherry also directed the animated film--I think it was meant to be both a book and short film from the start.)
Everyone hates when people make this suggestion but coding. I didn't think I could learn it but did. "it's too hard" and "where do you even learn it?" were my reasons to not do it for a long time.
https://www.theodinproject.com/
That was made by thousands of people to be a free one-stop shop on how to self-learn web development (there are web communities built in, too). They'll tell you what you need and provide lessons and help you when you get stuck. The hardest part is starting, it's like drinking from a fire hose, but just keep talking with the community and you'll be okay!
Most of the people I have heard of doing it that change their careers do so in about 9 months. I think they really dive in to accomplish that. I have heard of few people who go at a more measured pace than that. It's not that doing it slower won't work, it's just that people who go slower tend to see results slower, too, and then they more often give up.
Interesting, thanks for the information. I knew he was going under an alias to remain anonymous because he mentioned it in this interview. I didn't know he was an actor.
If you'd like to know more about her, she has also published a book: Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law
I do. Khaki does feel like a uniform, but I have some tan/khaki pants I usually use for work/not looking like a schlub. But I have to choose my shirt carefully, lest someone ask me where the cleaning supplies section is.
I used to have some khaki cargo pants that I really liked.
I bought a UPS truck brown dress off Amazon. I like it.
Because I tend toward being a "this all sucks and I want none of it" type of person, my shopping rule has become that if I feel anything other than general indifference about something, I have to try it. If I look at it and think "man I'd look terrible in that color!" Into the pile it goes. Cringe? Yep, it's getting tried on.
I've found some things I wouldn't normally entertain that way.
I think the first step is you getting comfortable with going places alone. Try MeetUp.com and search for groups with similar interests as you. If your city is featured on idontdoclubs.com try some of those events as well. Also, try the public library for their events as well as local recreation centers for cheap classes that may be in of your interest or your local African American Community Center. Volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity or other things you're passionate about can also get you in the space to meet people who share similar passions. I think unless you are willing to forge out alone, this is going to be damn near impossible to meet people outside of work. Good luck!
The film industry always do minorities wrong. In one of the original screenplays for The Man Who Knew Infinity apparently Ramanujan was supposed to fall in love with a white nurse, which now that I think about it, is alluded to in the movie if you pay attention.
I just want some minority characters not in biopics or slave movies. Like slice of life movies; Dope did that pretty well, I think. Or minority space cadets. Or if it's a biopic, don't focus entirely on hardship. A Eunice Carter biopic would be a crazy cool mystery crime movie.
I use the Korean Skincare routine and my skin is amazing, no cap. I posted a vid on IG yesterday morning and about 12 people hit me up for my routine.
I've been able to get the routine down to a few mins, so while it's a lot of steps. It's really not that bad.
Here are my steps:
Remove makeup with oil. ( i use coconut or baby oil.) Run hot faucet on washcloth while removing makeup. Use warm washcloth to remove excess oil and open up dem pores.
Oil Cleanse with Brooklyn Botany Oil Cleaners
In the shower, I cleanse with a simple Cetaphil for normal-oily skin. I use a konjac sponge in there.
Toner with Thayers Rose Petal
Acne Pad, I get whatever is on sale at the time. Stridex or Oxy seems to be in rotation.
Serums. I use 2 things right now, The Ordinary's Zinc 1% & Niacinamide 10% with a Vitamin C serum from Amazon.
Moisturizer which is just Cerave with SPF. (but switching to skin milk soon).
8 Makeup.
On the weekends, I do a mask. Sometimes I'll do a charcoal exfoliator and a sheet mask or something. It's whatever.
I love Khan Academy's cosmology and science courses; their history outlines help me get a better grasp of world wars histories in 20 minutes than I have had in the past 30 years. I've also been toying with http://www.codecademy.com/learn
I've fallen into an Asian Skincare hole lately, and absolutely LOVE Hada Labo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Lotion Moist as a moisturizer for oily skin. It's super lightweight, makes my skin so bouncy and hydrated, is cheap and you can get it with fast shipping from Amazon.
If you can't make it out there, most/all of the films mentioned in the article are available on Netflix in the collection Pioneers of African-American Cinema.
Ahh, this is really cool. Here's a podcast interview with her and this is her own twitch channel, you can subscribe to her or donate there too.
I've been wanting to share this for awhile, Vitamin E capsules for smooth, hydrated skin. I have the driest, most sensitive skin known to man, which has only gotten worse since I hit 40. I have tried every cream on the market (pretty sure I keep Sephora in business), but few have worked well-- for all day hydration, and none have also addressed dark spots/hyper-pigmentation AND acne.
I read an article and decided to order the best Vitamin E capsules that Amazon offered, these by Solgar: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001VURB0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
At only $13 I was not expecting much, but boy was I wrong! I apply the Vitamin E oil just once a day, in the evening a couple of hours before bed to give it a chance to soak in, 4 or 5 nights a week. My skin is moist and supple, no more dry patches. My monthly hormonal breakout was completely healed, and smoothed, and has yet to return. Finally, my hyper-pigmentation/dark marks have faded--quickly. Raw Vitamin E oil is now a staple in my beauty regimen.
How to use: 1.Break open 1 capsule into your clean palm w a safety pin. 2.Add several drops of your favorite, gentle, no fragrance moisturizer to dilute the oil and make it spreadable. ( I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin ) 3. Apply to face a few hours before bed 4. Repeat 3 or 4 nights a week
** Side Note: ** I have highly sensitive, reactionary skin and this did not cause me to break out, but it may for some. Also, the Vitamin E oil causes increased cell turnover and dead skin production. Make sure to use a retinol or glycolic exfolliant at least 2 days a week. I also use my Clarisonic every other day.
>Please tell me who says that, cause this is the first time I've heard that story.
Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X both said it.
Master W.D. Fard was half Black and Half White. He was made in this way to enable him to be accepted by the Black people in America, and to lead them, while at the same time he was enabled to move undiscovered among the White people, so that he could understand and judge the enemy of the Blacks. (emphasis mine). taken from The Autobiography of Malcolm X
And select quotes (because it's late and I need to go to sleep and I'm not the fastest typist) from page 60 of the book An Original Man: The Life And Times of Elijah Muhammad
Proceeding with the narrative, the Black man's messiah, Wallace D. Fard (later Fard Muhammad), was born on February 26, 1877, in the Holy City of Mecca in line with the Nation's prophecy.
Interestingly, his father, Alphonso, was an ebony-colored man of the Tribe of Shabazz, and his mother, Baby Geee, was "a Caucasian lady, a devil." Fard's father met his mother in the hills of Asia where she lived as other Whites lived, semi-civilized and content with a wicked existence. (emphasis mine)
Since Fard's father knew scripture and was aware that his future son would be destined to explore the world to find a lost portion of the Tribe of Shabazz, he believed that it would be best to have a male offspring whose skin color would allow him "to deal with both [White and Black] peoples justly and righteously.
Your question is so broad that I hesitate to attempt to answer it. I'll spit out a few things off of the top of my head, but for a more in depth answer, please ask more specific questions.
1.) Two of the endless book recommendations I could make: A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn, and The Autobiography of Malcolm X (incidentally, this was co-written/edited by Alex Haley). Also, although an article and not a book, I would recommend this.
2.) I won't be watching the remake of Roots, because I have sentimental ties to the original. I am old enough to remember watching it with my family on television when it was first broadcast, and how groundbreaking it was thought to be. Back then, we were excited whenever there was a Black person or Black people on television in a positive light, or at all, so the fact that our story in the United States was being told, and the entire nation was riveted by it, was a huge, huge deal.
If This, Then This.
it's sort of a service that merges things together.
For instance i can get a text message whenever /u/airz23 posts a new story. I can get a notification when it's going to snow tomorrow.
But it's more than just that because it ties into many difference services not just google (gmail, calendar, etc) and your phone. It can tie into Reddit, and dropbox and my pocket (Pocket is what i use to save article that are interesting), and instagram and twitter.
So for instance i can have it do
If [I post a picture to instagram] then [Download picture and upload to Twitter].
If [I favorite a tweet] then [Save this Tweet to pocket]
or [Save this tweet to a spreadsheet]
or [Save this tweet to an email]
it can tie into craigslist finding searching for a post matching a query. For instance you can search for your address.
If [Address found] then [Notifiy my phone]
or
If [appartment with 2br found] then [Tweet my brother]
as a gamer (board and video) I like to know what's up sometimes. There's a website HumbleBundle which legit right now for 8 days has some books every black woman should be checking out. [Genius, Saga]
Anyway HumbleBundle changes every few weeks. So it's helpful to know exactly when they post a new bundle. Their gimick is if you beat the average price you get bonus stuff. So the average is lower at the start.
If [HumbleBundle post a new bundle] then [Push a link to my phone and my computer]
I just read about that story too (and this companion piece)! It was so disgusting! He has a history of swapping stories with the national enquirer. But the fact that he asked Tyson to go to therapy instead of reporting it sickens me. He obviously didn't care about his daughter at all. Or any women, it seems like.
I was looking for this picture online to share with you all, because it always brings a smile to my face, and I found this woman's page.
I have no idea who Kicha, the user who put this collection together is, but I am seriously impressed with her. Not only did she find and post all these pictures, many of which are rare, she wrote detailed captions for each one. I'm probably going to be looking at this the rest of the day.
Hahaha. Well let me share this whole new world with you then. I recently had bright pink spring twists. I received so many compliments. I also have done purple spring twists. I bet that hair would crochet well if you wanted to do something loose. Amazon sometimes has the fun colors. I really wanna do the pink again, but I can only find the hair at AliExpress and I've never ordered from them before.
I can't color my hair because it falls out so I always experiment with weave.
Depends on your background. If your family is low-income, get used to more creative excuses for why you can't loan out money. I usually say all my extra money is tied up in the stock market and it takes 3 weeks to sell stocks; none of my family knows this is untrue because they don't know how stocks work. 3 weeks is usually too long for them to wait so they tend to move on to someone else.
Have strict rules about lending. If your cousin is being evicted, will you help? If your sibling is in jail, will you put up bail? Your family will suck you dry because free money is the best money.

Max out your 401(k) at the beginning of the year or throughout the year. Also, your after-tax 401k and HSA if possible. Anything that is tax-advantaged. Use the Roth mega back door.
Be mindful of lifestyle creep or you'll end up one of those people making six figures but living paycheck-to-paycheck.
Read the books "Money Ratios" and "The Millionaire Next Door".
Don't lease a new car (buy an older, used one).
Find the cheapest rent possible. Get a roommate, even if you can afford not to have one.
You still need a budget, even if you can pay your bills easily without one.
Never hold stock in the company you work for.
Diversify your skillset and constantly consider other job offers. It's the only real way to get a sense of your market value and to be sure you're not being underpaid at your current job.
That's all the general stuff I have off the top of my head.
Actually, most of the posts I've seen on those subs are mid-20's and 30's. What I do notice on there is evidence of a whole lot of distorted thinking. When people say they will be alone forever, I can't help but think they may just be suffering from extreme pessimism and a very distorted image of themselves(based on this).
I only say this because I know I'm a pessimist and that has impacted certain outcomes in my life. I'm reading a book now called Learned Optimism that deals with this.
i feel this post and i actually made a post like in here a few months ago. wishing to have a friend group like you would see on living single or girlfriends. i did had an outstanding 'friend' group at one point in my young adult life, but everyone eventually started to hate me, drift away, or i just don't talk to them anymore. i have no idea how old you are, but people come and go, and if someone is meant to be in your life, they will stay in it! idk 2018 taught me nothing last forever (including friendships)

again, i don't know your age nor your location, but if you are a 20 to 30 something year old person living in a city of 500k or more people, then meetup.com would be your best bet! try seeing if there's any activism is going on or such.
Who's into bombass earrings and necklaces that make a statement?! I normally can't even pretend to be interested in people's handmade jewelry since its usually the same arrangement of beads from the craft store done to fucking death. But, this shit? I would wear her shit.
The way she structures her pieces is amazing. Actually "unique" for once.
In a related note, there's a pretty excellent documentary called A Ballerina's Tale about Misty Copeland that's currently on Netflix in the US at the moment. It's worth the watch.
you can stream it on Rap-Up.com

I got mine on amazon for 10 bucks because of a coupon deal. I looked on there and found this one for $12.99 that looks almost exactly like mine and has good reviews. The first time I used it, I tried it out over the weekend on a day that I wasn't planning to be out for a long time just to get the hang of it & I practiced putting it in while taking a shower.
There are a lot of youtube videos that help show you how to use it correctly so it wont spill. Here is a great video that shows how it works and different techniques you can use to put it in.
>I would personally recommend staying away from Free VPN services as they tend to be slower and the companies running it may be gathering up your data for profit. Some VPN providers with services that work across PC, Mac, Android, iOS and more include, , Pure VPN, VPN Unlimited, and Avast SecureLine.
I'm not too farmilar with the VPN services the list. However, I just want to point out you really want to read the terms and conditions of any provider. These providers could log and step you make and therefore snitch for whatever reason. If you care about your privacy you want a provider that flat out states their logging polices. They could still be full of shit, but at least will help you sleep at night.
I've been using PIA as well.
The main point of this article seems to be: >If Bernie can successfully deal with the NRA despite once having their support why can't Hillary deal with Goldman Sachs despite once having their support?
Because Hillary accepted $675,000 from Goldman Sachs for three speeches since stepping down as Sec'y of State in 2013. According to someone who was there, one of those speeches made her sound as if she worked there.
It's not just about proving or disproving a quid-pro-quo. It's about avoiding the <em>appearance</em> that you can be influenced. On the basis of her actions, Hillary has given the impression that she's for sale. Bernie has not. It's up to each voter whether they want to take that risk.
I personally use 'Project Gutenberg' the most, but I unfortunately don't know about a site for free e-books specifically by black people.

She's a poet, too. Here's one of hers that I read in a poetry class in college and enjoyed. Its the poem her husband cites as the reason he first fell in love with her.
Another girl here who's kinda dark (NW50), but i don't use mac foundation. my basics are as follows
Foundation: benefit hello flawless in nutmeg. i used to use mac foundation, but it never really worked well for me because my skin gets oily, and nothing i did would really help the situation, so when i switched to benefit i definitely had better coverage, with the ability to wear less make up so my skin wouldn't get as oily
concealer: benefit's boi-ing concealer in 05. this stuff is magic, i swear.
for everything else, i made a listography a while ago of my favorite stuff. i tend to shop at sephora more than drug stores for make up, but that's just me as a person. you can find good stuff at both, so don't think you* have* to go to sephora or ulta.
Pro tip: Most guys are looking for any woman who seems into them. It doesn't matter what you look like, as long as you have self-confidence- they'll shoot their shot.
That being said I recommend just enjoying life as a whole by making friends, volunteering, finding hobbies you enjoy. When you enjoy other parts of your life, it shows to a potential partner. I recommend the site Meetup.com because there are several groups that cater to varying interests and backgrounds.
Don't think about your age and experience, think of what you can bring to the table. I'm introverted and shy as well but I'm also observant, conscientious and detail oriented- any partner worth their salt looks for that.
"You better hide your grandmomma cause I'll fuck her too"
a fun lyric from rapper Lavell William Crump a.k.a. David Banner's song "Take Your" on his 2005 album Certified
Yeah there's tons of lower level tutorials that you can start with. I recommend https://www.udacity.com/course/intro-to-computer-science--cs101 . It's a python tutorial that starts from the basics. It gets a bit challenging as it goes on but it's definitely doable.
If you want an even more introductory level one you can try codecademy's python course. Although I recommend at least starting that above udacity one. I'm honestly in love with that course as an intro guide.
I thought COINTELPRO ended already. Then I hear about cops infiltrating these movements as well as the FBI.
>In a clip posted online by Media Matters, Fox News host Pete Hegseth complained that “Homeland” was trying to “ram political agendas down our throat.”
If you want to see political agendas rammed down your throat watch the latest episode of <em>Quantico</em> aka "Extremely attractive FBI doing sexy action scenes". Lack of bloody subtlety in the last episode which featured a president trying to pass a Muslim registry bill which had failed two times already. Plus a TON of grandstanding about how American everyone is and how much they respect the system and how it's unamerican to sign this or that.

I didn't know about this, thanks for posting OP! Unfortunately, it's not showing at any theaters near me.
But it's on Amazon and iTunes.
Oh, also, here's the direct link to the book's listing on Amazon: Never Caught: The Washingtons' Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge by Erica Armstrong Dunbar
This is the brand I've bought from the beauty supply store for years. Reviews on Amazon seem to indicate some packaging issues from certain sellers, though.
I have low porosity hair type 4 hair which is very sensitive to protein. So I look for humectant products (like honey, glycerin, and aloe) which do not contain additional proteins. I've never put raw honey in my hair but Camille Rose's Honey hydrate leave-in works for me after using her coconut water deep conditioner. Whenever I apply the products I make sure that my hair is still soaking wet as that is the only way to prevent tangling for me. My hair tangles within minutes of stepping out of the shower. At this point, I don't even try detangling my hair until it is soaking wet and then I use a wide tooth comb.

I use a mister-style spray bottle to spray my hair with water once I'm out of the shower and my leave-in conditioner is in and comb my hair in twists. I apply one of the Camille Rose moisture butter before twisting. My hair may now take a day to actually dry but since it's in twists it won't tangle and the style stays. By day 3, my hair is usually dry enough for a twist out. I also spray it with the Jamaican black castor oil leave-in in conditioner spray and water to keep my twists moisturized.

Also, the order of your products matter. Always use humectants first since the draw water into your hair. Use oils and creams to seal moisture in.

I've heard other type 4s swear by the TGIN line. You can get a trial pack of all their products for $22 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Thank-God-Its-Natural-Collection/dp/B00FQ7J81E/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1SLQKL2WQY0H3&keywords=tgin+products&qid=1557012852&s=gateway&sprefix=tgin%2Caps%2C129&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1)
That's honestly not just about them being White. I've had Black doctors who didn't know anything either and White doctors who were up on Black health. People have ideas of what causes them but most doctors seem to be ignorant of even what's starting to bubble up in the research.
Changing my diet wasn't too hard. I started trading out the animal products. That's expensive, but cutting back on them is usually good for you anyway so it can even out. Even your natural hair products can have ingredients you want to stay away from, so it's worth checking those and even laundry detergent and soaps. I only use organic detergents now except for extreme cases.
DIM is a substance that's found in vegetables and a lot of women take it for hormone balance around menopause, but specifically to help their body process excess estrogen/estrogen dominance, something that can happen with women at any age this link will tell you more. You can get an actual test for estrogen dominance and I'd suggest it even though I haven't done it yet myself. I just took a chance.
For me, it took a month to see a difference in the behavior of my fibroids. For the bleeding, I started with apple cider vinegar (I should've mentioned that) and that took a couple of months to work. That's actually a pretty safe place to start. I would say talk to your doctor, but SO many are completely ignorant of this stuff and are willing to fill you full of hormones, risk surgery, and just let your condition get to emergency levels before they have a serious conversation. A naturopath might know a little more since some do focus on hormone balance.
I think it's a great idea; I actually thought about it for myself. The catch is that the rate of successful reversals isn't nearly that high.
Here you go. :) Looks like you can get it in "poor" condition for about $5 or very good condition for $10. (I love Abe Books. My favorite used bookshop turned me onto them and I've been using them ever since. You can find pretty much anything there.)
>1) did anyone actually "leave" for Voat? I keep hearing that the site is down (at least for Americans) for lengthy periods every day. Those users are still here. Voat does not seem to be ready for prime time, not so much that they can compete with Reddit. They just can't handle the traffic.
Neither could reddit during the digg 2.0 exodus. Alexa also has a HUGE growth in the last month for voat: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/voat.co
>2) Surely someone at Reddit HQ has come to the conclusion that there is more to having a successful site than having tons of users at any cost? Having those users has made Reddit toxic to most major advertisers, as evidenced by the fact that Reddit has been one of the largest websites in North America and on the web at large for years and it still isn't profitable. I'm still holding out hope that these people aren't total morons, even if their moral compasses point nowhere but south.
If you go read the AMA being done by the board member of reddit right now. He says reddit has 50M$ in the bank and is breaking even. He also goes on to mention that the board doesn't get paid they make their money in owning stock of reddit.
Most sites are valued at their unique hits, with very little in the way of what content they provide. So yes I could easily see them not giving a shit about what is on the site, remember Conde Nast bought reddit while it still has jailbait and all the other shit show subreddits.
Also, from the board members AMA he says they aren't going for ads, they want to start commerace: https://np.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3cudmx/i_am_sam_altman_reddit_board_member_and_president/csz4axo

The easy thing to do is put the extra pay to debts/saving. Depending on your raise you may need to spend more as well (strange huh?).
impulse buying is hard for me. It can really up how much I spend if I am in a bad mood at work and decide to eat out several times during a week.
You may want to invest in You need a budget. Good place to start getting a budget and being able to kinda forecast spending. check the personal finance subreddit as well.
This one. It fits mega tight when you first get it but my big head lol stretched it out quickly enough to suit me. It's huge so I recommend it for dreds and braids otherwise it fits like a chef hat 😏
https://www.amazon.com/BLITZWAX-Waxing-Digital-Warmer-Accessories/dp/B081HZFYSH?ref_=ast_sto_dp
The one without the display is cheaper, but I liked that this one came with two types of wax and had the display. But really they're all the same damn machine.
I bought some silicone wax pots too, so I don't have to fuss with the metal tin: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08B8GTP7V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you're interested in their book, here's the Amazon listing: A Blessing: Women of Color Teaming Up to Lead, Empower and Thrive by Bonita Stewart and Jacqueline Adams.
here the link from amazon, I bought the first one.
Oh gosh, I posted a blog post about this here a long time ago, but I can't find it to pull up now. Having said that, my futile Googling turned up this book, which looks really interesting!
I've been getting hard waxes for a few years, so that's the path I'm taking. My business has not dealt well with anything else. My eyebrows have been fine with whatever.
This what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081HZFYSH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's due tomorrow, and there was a $10 coupon on it. I bought a few other accessories with it (extra applicator sticks, silicone pots, paper collars) and was going to go buy some after-wax aloe gel, but I'll see how the included spray holds up first.
The reviews/appearances across all of the ~$25-50 wax kits look like it's your usual Amazon dropshipper rebranded with hodgepodge names. I liked the price and add-ons for this one, it's got strips even though you shouldn't need them, the pre/post sprays, and only two types of wax instead of four. I wanted to have everything I might possibly need, but four waxes seemed a bit excessive? I figure I can always hit Sally's if I end up wanting a specific wax for my face.
I really, really enjoyed it! Though I would say, it's really a history book (entwined history of his specific ancestors, African-American history generally, and African-American food history), and not really a cookbook, though each chapter ends with a recipe.
Another one I've got on my list is Soul Food by Adrian Miller; I haven't read it yet, but it seems like it was well received.
Arrow Launcher excellent choice for a first launcher. Get a great background and some great icons and you're off. The time widget thing you get is ok but if you want to spruce it up there's ZooperWidget which can let you get things like clocks that show battery or the date in words instead of numbers etc etc.
It depends. It looks like Tea Forte sells some pre-proportioned loose leaf, but usually it's like seasoning where you get a packet/container and have to get it out yourself. Capital had a spicy cherry blend a few years back, and genius that I am, ran out of peppers...
I'd bought a cute kit for work on Amazon a few years back (like this set, but not this set), came with a little spoon and empty tea bags. I tried fussing with a few different reusable infusers, but it was too much hassle for the office. At home I have a mug with the basket.
I got the Melody nail drill and bought these additional nail bits. Very very happy with both purchases.
Not a weather expert, so far there have been 10 intense tropical storms (named alphabetically) for the 2018/19 cyclone season. Though not all tropical storms become cyclones or hurricanes, I don't know if it has exceeded the average season for the region significantly. The international disaster database, EM-DAT, would rank this the second deadliest, if not the most devastating, since records began in 1892.
I ALWAYS abide by this. Seriously. I regret the times that I have not. I encourage everyone to read the book: The Gift Of Fear. It really was one of those pivotal reads that really have changed my perspective on how I listen to myself.
Hi! Thank you for your suggestion, I'll definitely check out that subreddit! So I wanted to kind of subtly blend the image with the background, hence the landscape earring haha also I used Pixlr X to create this digital composite, here's the link https://pixlr.com/x/ :)
If you're in a big city try meetup.com. You can attend meet ups with people that have your similar interests or that are in your age group. It evens the playing field because most of the people there don't know each other either and are there for the same reasons you are.
First, I'd probably look around your area for custom apparel/tshirts shops. If you live near a predominately black flea market 9/10 times they'll have a booth that prints custom shirts. If not, google a custom tshirt shop near you and then call and figure out their prices, see if they have a design wizard you can use, if you can bring in your own shirt, etc.
I'd suggest going out and finding your own shirt that's comfy and cute so that the shirt isn't too plain. It can be any color you want but the easiest material to work with is cotton so keep that in mind. Polyester might be okay too, but be sure to check with your printer before hunting. OR you can buy one from the printer for an additional cost depending on the material.
If your printer doesn't have a design wizard you can try making a vector file using Inkscape. I've never used it, but I've heard good things about it. Create your design, send the vector format to the printer, and wait maybe an hour or so and you've got your shirt! I made about 3 at flea market a few months ago and they cost me $20 and the lady took a little under an hour to finish them.
This is actually a famous mistranslation. Here's the full quote:
"I came to join the revolution, not to kill the Cambodian people. Look at me now. Am I a violent person? No. So, as far as my conscience and my mission were concerned, there was no problem."
Also, I don't think that's a picture of Pol Pot. For that matter, what does Pol Pot have to do with MLK?
Oh white racists, are you playing a little joke? Oh, you guys and your jokes.
So silly!
You might want to look up some of the modern Lovecraft fandom; there are a few holdouts, but in general they are fully aware of his racism, and people making modern pastiches of his work either directly interrogate his racism or cleave it away to focus exclusively on cosmic monsters. You are by no means the first or the last black person to fall in love with his work and then find out what he named his cat :///// but still want to read and write about incomprehensible horrors from beyond the stars.
A good starting point might be The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor La Velle, a novella about "The Horror at Red Hook" from the POV of a black man.
This is a knotless bob with curly hair. The curly hair is usually crochet pieces like freetress water wave
It’s a mix of regular braiding hair with some type of curly crochet hair (example: Dansama 6 Packs Passion Twist Hair Water Wave Braiding Hair for Butterfly Style Crochet Braids Bohemian Hair Extensions (18inch (Pack of 6), #1B) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NP4KYFT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MJ852825B1FHJSGEQADK ) crocheted into the roots and added in at the end of the braid & then cut into a bob.
I’m not sure about the color but looking at wigs like this might get you close!!!

I just posted a picture of them here last week! I had never heard of them before, I really hope they can become better recognized. Lt. Col. Charity Adams wrote a memoir that I put on my to-read list: One Woman's Army: A Black Officer Remembers the WAC
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.
Regarding the noise issue. Are you working in a separate room or do you have to work in a room where others are around? If it is a separate room but the noise is still coming through, you may want to consider getting some stripping (https://www.amazon.com/Efficient-stopper-soundproofing-weather-stripping/dp/B078N2TV7T/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521143043&sr=8-4&keywords=soundproofing) to put at the bottom/tops of your doors to help keep out noise. There are also soundproofing foam panels, curtains and quilts that you can purchase as temporary solutions if you need to cover a larger area.
I know you don't have a lot of funds but if you're stuck between spending $10-100 (check ebay and amazon) to do some minor soundproofing versus getting fired.. that may be an option for you. Another option is to look into the cheapest and highest quality noise cancelling microphone (headset). I used to do work from home technical support and they had a 0 tolerance noise policy so I understand the pressure you may be under.
I generally get it at TJMaxx for like $10. The bottle lasts be like 3 months or so? You can get it on Amazon but the bottle may be smaller: BioSilk Silk Therapy, 17 Miracle Leave -In Conditioner, 5.64 Fluid Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWT8JZC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_2g6KDb1BR701V
I've got a few aggressive chin hairs too, but they're far and inbetween enough that I can pluck them as they surprise me.
Here's what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081HZFYSH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There was a $10 coupon on it yesterday, but having ordered it IDK if it's still active.
FWIW, several Southern states legalized interracial marriage during Reconstruction, so your grands may have been legally married.
For an idea of what it might have been like, you might want to read the book Having Our Say; the Delany sisters were grandchildren of a similar relationship in that time period, and they talked about it a bit.
This book has helped me tremendously in life.
Also What Color is My Parachute.
(I still haven't completely figured it out but I'm doing what I love.)
Adventures in wax-pot! The pot came last week, or the day after whenever I said I was ordering it.
I'm pretty pleased with the results so far, I guess I paid decent attention while being the test-model.
I got ambitious and had one gum-up, but it wasn't anything horrible.
It easily took me 4x as long as getting it done, but I guess it's like doing your hair. First time, DIY, less hands, stopping for distractions... I'm sure now that it's done, the next time will be much easier.
I think I'd give the pot itself a positive review, the sprays an ok review (I'm not terribly keen on the mineral oil in the post/wax-removing spray, or smell of the pre-spray), the wax a mostly positive review (it worked well, but dark wax and dark hair don't seem like the best mix to make sure everything's coming up correctly).
Also, pumpkin spice wax-beans: https://www.amazon.com/wakse-Pumpkin-Spice-Hard-Beans/dp/B081V3MDR4/ .

I also bought the shorter shorts but don't like them as much because they ride up my leg and cause my thighs to rub together in a painful way 🙃
Check out Jubilee by Toni Tipton-Martin! The author also wrote a book about historical cookbooks by African-American women (The Jemima Code), and Jubilee is kind of distilling all that knowledge into about 100 recipes. Obviously no cookbook can be definitive, but if you're going to get one book, I think this would be the one, and it should also be a good starting point for finding which traditions you vibe with the most and so on.
I found it on US Amazon: The Chronicle of the Jali: The Redemption of Storms. (An African Epic Fantasy) by Elom Abbey
/u/Elom-Abbey, it would be a good idea to make a website with separate pages for each of your books, that includes a section with direct links to where to purchase them. Something like the Order Now section on this page.
I’m heavily into African spirituality. Voodoo, crystals, candles, incense etc.
This is one of my favorite books
Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals https://www.amazon.com/dp/0062508598/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_y7hGDb93DHJHD
And this one:
The Complete Book of Incense, Oils and Brews (Llewellyn's Practical Magick) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0875421288/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_68hGDb1VGMASE
I had a wonderful spell book I bought at a botanical in Florida years ago. It worked so well for me but I lost it and can’t remember the name. Now I scour botanicas in every city I travel looking for this book.
try a waterproof cap:
Brown Angels by Walter Dean Meyers! It's a photo and poetry album of black children between 1880 and 1940, so it will grow with her as she learns how to read along. Every black child will find a photograph of a child from long ago who looks exactly like them in their Sunday best. As a kid I loved looking at their high button shoes and frilly dresses. Found the book again as an adult and blown away how beautiful our people are.
Me too! For sunscreen it mostly depends on your skin type. I'm oily/sensitive and what I've been using is elta md though I'm not sure why it's so expensive right now. It leave a bit of a white cast but I wear foundation over it so it's not noticable. I can wear it for like 12 hours without turning me into an oil slick and it doesn't irritate my skin.
I recently tried this mermaid gel and it applied beautifully and made my skin look so smooth. And there was ZERO whitecast. But after four hours I looked so oily even after blotting and applying translucent powder. Also it's not water or sweat proof so not ideal for the summer.
Just going to go ahead and shamelessly leave the link to my novel here. Hey, struggling self-publishing writers gonna struggle...
Once a week is probably best, but this is coming from the girl who has not cleaned her eyeshadow brushes and sometimes just buys a new one so I don't have to deal lol. Do as I say not as I do lol.
One thing you can do is get a color switch. It's basically a container with a rough black sponge that you can rub your brush against to get the color out. With this, I can use one brush to switch from bright pink to yellow to purple without muddying the colors ad it helps them stay cleaner a little longer. Here is a cheap one I found on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Zodaca-Removal-Brushes-eyeshadow-application/dp/B01IQUBYGE/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_194_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=G5B60MX5JP8466VZW8TQ
Even just using a paper towel during the week can help to rub the color out.
"Commited to Image" isn't strictly nude but has work by many different photographers https://www.amazon.com/Committed-Image-Contemporary-Black-Photographers/dp/0872731448/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516654376&sr=8-1&keywords=committed+to+image
This photographer isn't well known but has done hundred of black nudes http://www.maximvakhovskiy.com/ (search the portraits)
If I find more I will add them.
I don't know which books you checked out but a few really good books I've enjoyed are:
Your Money or Your Life
Charles Schwab's New Guide to Financial Independence
All About DIvidend Investing
The Wallstreet Journal Guide to 50 Economic Indicators that Really Matter
Which books did you snag? I'd like to add them to my Scribd library.
I just finished "Stiletto" by Daniel O'Malley which was not nearly as good as "Rook" but still mildly entertaining.
Right now I am reading Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton bio and listening to his "George Washington: A Life" audiobook.
ETA: Whoops! Sorry, I didn't mean to post this as a reply to your comment!
Currently reading "The Martian" it's pretty good. I want to finish reading all of Richard Wright's books and short stories, he is my all time favorite author. Want to get back into Octavia Butler's works. I read "Dawn" in a science fiction class in college and I really liked it. There's not enough black sci-fi writers out there! The Autobiography of Malcolm X is also on my list.
Justice and her Brothers by Virgina Hamilton. It's a book series (trilogy) for middle schoolers but if she loves to read she might be able to handle it!
https://www.amazon.com/Justice-Trilogy-Brothers-Dustland-Gathering-ebook/dp/B0090WS1FK
Thanks, this is a great list! Another one I've heard good things about is Finding Charity's Folk: Enslaved and Free Black Women in Maryland.
This is great. I put it on my wishlist. Have you ever heard of the comic Kouakou? I came across it randomly and loved the artwork. There doesn't seem to be any English prints of it.
