These images are from the developer's site where you can find all the released screenshots so far. JohnDio had posted these same images as a facebook link, but his post was well on it's way to being buried. So I'm blatantly reposting these pictures (same title and all) in hopes more people will be able to see them, plus easier access to the images.
The arma 3 night is really good. Maybe they should take some inspiration.

ARMA 3 and Natural Selection 2 would be your best choices. If you're going to play them then it's highly recommended that you use a mic to communicate with your team members.
It's also possible to join some serious clans in ARMA 2 or 3 which focus on realistic and serious communication, combat and tactics in the game.
Try reading the ARMA website or Wiki, it's right there...
>ARMA 3 is set in the near-future, during the mid-2030s, where NATO forces deployed in the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea are trying to hold off a massive Iranian military offensive from the east. During the singleplayer campaign, the player will take the role of a British Special Forces soldier, Captain Scott Miller. Initially, the player must survive on their own after friendly forces are defeated in a failed NATO operation. During the campaign, the player will face everything from lone wolf infiltration missions to the commanding of large scale armored operations. The player will be able to choose different objectives and weaponry (such as UAVs, artillery, and air support) according to their play style.
&
>Storyline Tensions rise as NATO and Iranian forces stand-off in the Aegean: the strategic fault-line between crumbling European influence and a powerful, resurgent East. But when a key radar facility drops off the grid, a Greek flashpoint risks escalating into global conflict.
>Caught up in a situation beyond their control, a botched withdrawal traps men of the US 7th Infantry Division and a clandestine group of UKSF operators in a fight for survival. With only a crippled local resistance to turn to, they must rapidly adapt to overcome an unforgiving environment and defeat a brutal enemy
Arma 3 comes out soon. Look into it. The game area trumps battlefield's by a MASSIVE margin. It comes out supposedly in Q4 of 2012 (this year).
I love BF3, but ultimately I don't think it will ever be this type of game.
ArmA series are a military simulation game. The present map of Arma 3 is about 270 square kilometers. Its a very moddable game also, like this one features Blastcore for lightning and explosions and also JSRS for sound. You can find mods for almost anything in the game, mostly created by the community and some Military Simulation Groups (Or Mil Sim) who add much much more to the game.
With that said, Arma is not for everybody, it has a wide range of controls, stances, and the controls (apart the usual WASD and freelook) are very diffrent from a common FPS like Battlefield or even Call of duty.
Game modes are where Arma loses its definition, it ranges from Altis life and wasteland (RPG styles) where you roleplay and have some fun, then you can have popular game modes like King of the hill and Battle royale (mostly deathmatch) and then have something more like Insurgency, where you have hostile sectors and clear them out, this is more of a COOP style.
So Arma has a lot of faces, it has its bugs also, but the community is what makes Arma so fun.
As an honest reply?
This is the current image section, unless you're looking for the ol' corny wallpapers.
It wasn't a paid mod. I do believe rocket ended up getting a considerable interest in the sales of DayZ standalone. However, Bohemia has seen how important the modding community is. They are currently running a contest here:
http://www.arma3.com/news/contest-announcement
$200,000 for the top mod.
While that is much different than having mods charge for things, you can see how companies are starting to shift their perception about mod creation being a profitless venture.
Different methods of achieving the same goal: Bring attention to your game through the work of mod makers.
From the Arma III website: "Coming Q4 2012"
As for DayZ at launch, I don't think it will, because (correct me if I'm wrong) the modders for DayZ would need the development kit to make the mod, which will probably be released after launch.
Please, if I'm wrong, correct me. I have no experience when it comes to making mods
Both are awesome. Arma 2 has more mods atm, especially some big ones. Arma 3 also has a fair share of mods already and new ones are constantly appearing. Arma 3 also has Zeus as free DLC. I haven't tried it yet but it looks awesome. Ultimately I'd go for Arma 3 simply because the community/developer focus will shift more and more to 3.
Arma is bound to go on sale during the steam summer sale so if you don't mind waiting a bit you could get them cheaper.
I could be wrong, but I belive neither of these would have such shouts
http://www.arma3.com/ http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/
(yes, I know arma3 is not out yet, but given even the commands for HAND SIGNS in arma 2, I am willing to go out on a limb and say arma 3 will not shout every time you do somthing)
Have you played Metro: Last Light as well than? Here's a gameplay trailer, and they've upped the graphical fidelity of the game as well.

Other very pretty games could include Watchdogs, which is coming out soon. Are you looking for First Person Shooters specifically?
Titanfall made a lot of buzz when it first came out, and Arma 3 is seen as an alternative to a lot of modern military shooters.
>The most distinctive game type in Arma 3 Zeus, however, is ‘Zeus Game Master’. Here, Game Masters are entirely free to create objectives, spawn units, and steer players across Arma 3’s massive Altis and Stratis terrains.

Gamma adjustments as others have said so no gamma cheating is possible anymore.Night time also needs to be a little brighter with more light emmitting from the moon. The night is just too damn dark atm.Sure it is realistic but sometimes, gameplay>>>>realism. The ArmA 3 night is perfect. If they can do the same with SA i'd be so happy.
EDIT:Night time also needs to be MUCH shorter.2 hours maximum.

Arma 3 is coming out fairly soon. Arma 2 was pretty good too and I played it a bunch. I don't think Battlefield will ever be that type of game, even though it has a beautiful engine.
Arma 3 is shaping up pretty nicely so far though.
Check it out: http://www.arma3.com/age-verification
ARMA 3 is effectively the game your describing but on an mediteraanean island. Single player will be an open world situation where you select your missions form various command posts and can complete in any order. ARMA3 will look far better than BF3, arma2 which is 3(?) years old actually looks more realistic still.

Also like all of bohemias games it's completely modifiable with an insanely complex editor. ARMA is the only game that appears to not be dumbing down content in fact it is adding even more complexity.
You should check out ARMA 3. It's going to implement the flight simulation from Take On Helicopters. And maps are huge. In my ARMA unit we play on 20km x 20km maps (and bigger) all the time.
EDIT: And you can do cool shit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtzES3tYBfw

I can only get the error "Failed to load mission" when i change the item counts so they don't reflect how many items are actually in that object. EG. In the code below having items=2 works fine but changing it to be items=5 would cause the error.
class List { items=2; class Item0 { className="A3_Characters_F"; name="Arma 3 Alpha - Characters and Clothing"; author="Bohemia Interactive"; url="http://www.arma3.com"; }; class Item1 { className="GR_Medium_Utility_Helicopters"; name="GR_Medium_Utility_Helicopters"; }; };
So that may be an issue, but i've also noticed older editor versions due seem to have a different SQM structure to the new missions. Although when i just replace the binarised contents with that in the CPP it seems to modify it to the new format, upon loading in the editor.
This is inspired by Arma III's "Zeus" mode. This may be pretty hard to make, so be advised. There would be two random players from two teams selected to be "Zeus" and control the map. This player would be in creative mode and be invisible. The objective of the gamemode for the players would be to play the objective, let it be CTF, Domination, etc. Both of the Zeus would be able to activate certain dynamic map events, such as lightning with a 10 second cooldown, spawning mobs with a cooldown, and similar abilities. The players would have no idea where the enemy Zeus is and has to be prepared for any challenge they face.
OCP is more meant for a highland mountain-desert camo than East Europe's plethora of green.
The best, actually, would be Greenfor's uniforms from Arma 3 seeing as though the latvian countryside looks like something from the Appliacians.
Also check out Defiance, a player-made Zeus v Zeus gamemode. Not EXACTLY what you described, but it's about as close as you'll get!
I've flown an assortment of things, and currently I've logged 500+ hours :P
I still need some pre-req schooling, followed by University before the CAF will put me in a cockpit :)
Well if you read the Scanning the Horizon update it says "... next month, we're set to unveil an innovative new multiplayer DLC".
That was January 24th. Just saying.
I think that the easiest thing to do would be to copy the style from the A3 website. Dark grey background, light grey text, white outlines, the smoother, slim looking text. A new banner using one of the infantry images like this, this, or this.
I don't know what all is involved in doing CSS or if all of that is even possible.... That's why I asked for the help :p
The alpha will be released before Arma 3, yes. The full game wont though, as Arma 3 is Q4-2012/Q1-2013 As you can see here, http://www.arma3.com, it was originally intended for Q4-2012 but has been delayed. I highly doubt the full DayZ will go from Alpha to Gold in a couple of months, if so they're rushing it.
If it is I'm okay with that. Too many games nowadays are released unfinished and I'd hate to see ARMA 3 become one of them. I can wait.
NINJA EDIT: Are you sure it got delayed? The main site still says Q4 2012.
