He got a refund, this was on the CNC forums EDIT: http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/showthread.php?7637-quot-Refund-not-possible-quot-according-to-Origin-EA&p=114287&viewfull=1#post114287
There is a discussion on EAs site where they're asking for community support for the future of the c&c series. I encourage everyone to chime in. The most viewed thread is about an update to generals.
edit: here is the link: http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/showthread.php?1691-Bring-back-Generals./page7 My post is the first one on Page 7, "General Mills"
The two pieces I can find that are the most recent (As far as I know) are the final update from the official Command & Conquer website as well as this notice regarding refunds.
Two relevant quotes:
> For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio.
> We believe that Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with huge potential and a great history, and we are determined to get the best game made as soon as possible. To that end, we have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the game back on track. We look forward to sharing more news about the franchise as it develops.
So the official position is that it's not dead, but I don't think we've heard anything more since then.
If you buy these, make sure you download these fixed launchers the ones that come from Origin are broken, they work fine if you don't want to pass any sort of command line arguments like windowed mode, but if you do, download the fixed ones.
It looks like downloading this file (http://tore.cnc-comm.com/TS_Win8fix.zip) and extracting the files to your Tiberian Sun directory will fix the problems.

Well they are kinda developing that atm. C&C Generals 2 will be released in 2012 with the BF3 graphical engine. PC exclusive =)
Edit: For teaser video etc; http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2
It IS copyrighted, however, "Freeware," which EA has listed the game as, is a recognized copyrighted material that can be distributed for free.
Here's the Wayback Machine hosting of EA's old C&C site, which declares them all Freeware.
Here's a primer on Freeware for those of you without Google.
Ergo, anyone can freely distribute C&C, Red Alert, and C&C 2. They cannot charge for it, nor claim it as their own, but it can be freely downloaded and played.
Here come the downvotes.
Hello WickedDogs, good to see you here! so for windows 8.1 most of the games require the fixed launchers. Download it here. it has its own installer and patches the executable of the games you have installed. let me know if you have any other issues!
Is it a bad thing that, whenever Bioware's name is attached to a franchise I loved once (see here) I just presume it's a bunch of cobbled-together devs, and EA is cynically exploiting the Bioware name for increased sales, despite its fading customer loyalty?
Sould also point out that most of the old C&C games (the original, Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun) are free to download. Generals is still MIA but the older games and the ones on steam are better anyway.
Which version did you download? There's just the game, the first decade and the ultimate collection. Each has its own quarks to make it work. If it's through origin be sure to turn off the origin overlay. Next up grab the fixed launchers from here: http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/26695-fixed-launchers-for-the-ultimate-collection/ lastly try running in compatibility mode. One of these things should fix it. Let me know if it works!
Glad you fixed it! If any more of them give you trouble be sure to get the fixed launchers for them. They are nearly mandatory for windows 8.1. Origin overlay also tends to sink games FPS even with a high end PC. It's always recommended to leave it off unless you play online. It was causing bad stuttering for me on dragon age origins.
I would hold off. I've played all the C&C games to date. Although this deal isnt on Steam, its origin, I would get this: Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection
It encompasses nearly all of the Command and Conquer games all in one bundle. Although that deal is restricted to the US, I did see it drop 50% (from its regular $19.99) to $9.99. A much better deal considering it's got all the games.
Since some of the games are quite older, they do come with some inherent challenges getting them to run. Here are some links with workarounds should you choose to buy.
Happy Command & Conquering!
Some games work out of the box, some might need 3rd party patches. Make sure to use the fixed launchers before patching.
Apparently Red Alert 3, Kane's Wrath, Tiberium Wars, Zero Hour and Generals will no longer have multiplayer. Dunno about LAN / direct IP connection.
It's kinda sad since they were about to push out an update that would fix one of my major problems with the game. That was how moving/pathfinding worked together with that there was no way to crush enemy soldiers or small tanks(with larger tanks).
any of the original 3 Command and Conquer Titles;
'Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn', 'Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun', or 'Command and Conquer: Red Alert'
web archive page of the downloads on EA's site
Context in the reply shows clearly what he meant, even if you don't know the word:
"Well according to their official website, the project has been insolfulibulated, and is now being converted to a free-to-play project."
The customer then says, "http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2/", which takes to a page that says: "Generals 2 has evolved to something new - A free AAA Command & Conquer Service."
If the customer support person 1. can't visit pages on the internet to view that (or look up the word scrapped) and 2. was still unable through context to understand the point, then they should have replied with, "I don't know what 'scrapped' means, please explain" rather than rejection.
And I agree that that is a shitty decision and one that makes them a shit company. But my point is that the title is sensationalist, and as an aside, apparently OP or whoever is in the discussion in the image already got a refund.
Are you sure its wasn't Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances you got a beta invite for. Check the website they have now updated it for the new Command & Conquer : http://www.commandandconquer.com/free/
http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2 look up the two trailers, GLA looks like the same, but the white vehicles, the EU as seen in this: http://www.moddb.com/groups/c-c-paradise/images/generals-2-confirmed-factions1#imagebox, look highly advanced, no Chinese or Americans seen as of yet
BTW, a while back the official Command & Conquer site had some of the old games available for free, which I thought was surprisingly cool for EA. I just checked back there again and it looks like they're gone now, replaced with some guff about EA's new strategy games division (called "The piss-soaked corpse of Westwood" or something.) However, some light Googling shows they are still available on other sites, presumably legally.
Also if anyone has the sudden urge to play the old classics again: http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic
You can download C&C Tiberian Sun, Tiberian Dawn, and Red Alert 1 for free! Though they will require much tinkering to get working.
For anyone feeling nostalgic, several C&C games were released for free in 2010, you can find fan-made installers online.

Dam, I'm not to sure if there would be a fix for that. If it's a navidia problem it might not be fixable. Your best bet would be here http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/27162-tiberian-sun-and-the-mysterious-disappearing-menu/ otherwise perhaps try torrenting it. You legally own it so there is NOTHING wrong with trying, the people that crack them usually put up a much more stable version then what origin has.
Hello! First off if you are running windows 7 or 8.1 you will most likely need the fixed launchers. Download them here. there is also a bunch of other fixes there too. The resolution on ra2 usually needs to be fixed but it is a simple .ini fix. Let me know if it helps!
No problem! Get the fixed launchers from here http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/26695-fixed-launchers-for-the-ultimate-collection/ it's an installer so it's mostly automatic. There are other great fixes there too but should fix your issue!
https://web.archive.org/web/20100227101231/http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic
archive.org still has the page where they gave the older versions away free leading up to C&C4.
No guarantees on legality of whether the offer is still valid.
But the download buttons seem to work.
/ started and cancelled, I don't need that distraction right now // <3 internet archive
Sadly EA doesn't allow the distribution of the game's assets (but they might if you ask for permission though)
If you go play C&C generals zero hour get these mods:
http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/topic/26695-fixed-launchers-for-the-ultimate-collection/ [you need this to play mods]
Don't worry, I am a regular at the official tech support forums. This error is easily fixed. Uninstall your game, the entire first decade if you have that installed. Then install it again and make sure to do it as an administrator. When that's done go to your RA2 folder and go to compatibility settings on all .exe files and make sure to run them as an administrator.
If this doesn't work I encourage you to make a thread at the official forums.

This is pretty much all we know. And that it will feature traditional C&C elements.
There is also a bit of info on the official site: http://www.commandandconquer.com/en/games/bygameid/cncgenerals2
There's another solution I use that fixes the colours in C&C and RA that involves adding a key to the registry.
See the section "Other Solutions to the scrambled colours in Windows 7:" under "Command & Conquer 1" as well as "Red Alert 1."
Victory Games was created by EA in early 2011 after the atrocity of CNC4, which is the studio that is now supposedly working on the next Command and Conquer title. Here's the interview.
That's all I have on CNC and I am massively disappointed in EA, but at least they didn't simply kill off the franchise... I guess.
All I know is that it was announced yesterday that John Van Caneghem is heading up EA's new strategy studio Victory Games. Interview with him here. I am far more interested in this development and seeing what they produce than I am in seeing Ubisoft fuck up one of my favorite franchises further.
I'm pretty sure all of the older command and conquer games are available free to download off of the command and conquer website. I saw it a few months ago. I'll try and track it down.
edit.

This seems to be what I was talking about, after a quick glance I don't see Red Alert 2, only the first one. I'm not sure though I didn't dig.
Well, there is the Steam list of free-stuff, then there is stuff like the old Command and Conquer games.
