for clients that want to see EVERYTHING i ask them to drive through the neighborhoods and check out the properties, then let me know their top 2 that we'll go see. sometimes i'll do a join.me screen share and click through with them and narrow it down to 2-3.
Or just use LogMeIn's free product: https://join.me and be done with it?
Teamviewer is only free for personal use (which this whole "help mom" scenario falls under), but JoinMe is completely free even for commercial use and is half of the hassle.
Here's something that might be of interest to you: you can download the join.me app directly, without having to use the website. You can send the URL to anyone via email, have them click it and run the app, instead of using the website. It also gets around an issue some computers have with the .NET ClickOnce Deployer. Here's the URL:
Hope that helps.
Have him go there in his web browser and click on the part where it says "start meeting." It will download an exe application (he may have to grant it permission). Have him run that exe, and it will display a box at the top of his screen with a number in it (looks similar to a phone number, is what I tell my family). Likewise, you click on where it says "join meeting" and input the code he reads back to you.
Then you will see a similar box at the top of your screen. Click on the mouse (I believe that's what it is) icon at the top to initiate a request to take over his desktop. He will then just have to click "Yes" to grant you permission...and then you have control of his computer.
We used to have a client based in the States and always used this: https://join.me/. Works nicely and you can share your screen while speaking on the call etc?
Haven't used Skype in a while though.
You could try one of these:
Or if you both use Google+ you could create a hangout and do a screen share from within the Google Hangout. (See the Google+ Hangout support page for more info. - https://support.google.com/hangouts/answer/3115553?hl=en)
I don't know if it works internationally, but https://join.me is another good options for this.
I've had good success using it to help my relatives' computer woes. You could probably setup a proxy for her easily enough that way.
This is what my professors use in my software development classes when they're programming on their computers so we can follow along on ours. I haven't had any experience with the pro version but the basic seems to work just fine. https://join.me/
"Virtual Selling" isn't some new trend. People have been on the phones selling for decades. The only difference now is that I have to stare at my boomer DMs forehead as they dumbly try to figure out how to use a camera. The plus side is that unlike 5 years ago with join.me or gotomeeting I don't have to walk someone through how to click a link or download something on a mac - they've already installed zoom/google meets.
Here is the insight to salespeople that they aren't going to like - your DMs are judging the shit out of you. Take a shower, wear a nice shirt, turn on your background, sit up straight, take off your hat and smile.
Webex: bought by Cisco and always was shit, only got worse. It was however, the first videoconference if I recall correctly.
Skype: only innovative thing they did was the micropayments and the integration with the POTS (i.e. "SkypeIn").
join.me: innovative in working in an HTML5 browser somehow without requiring any install. It was like fucking magic... and then they got bought by LogMeIn and it sucked.
Zoom: Don't think they introduced anything groundbreaking or new. The user interface for what 90% of the attendees need to do, is relatively simple and just works. I think they made a few major corporate sales, and then the pandemic fell into their lap.
Are you helping your dad remotely? Your mention of "he didn't do it correctly" makes it sound like you asked him to do it instead of doing it yourself. Try using a remote support tool like join.me (which is pretty straightforward and free for basic stuff) or teamviewer (slightly more advanced but a little more flexible). This would let you check out the problem "in person".
None of our users are local admins. I cant believe companies are still allowing their users to run with local admin access either.
Join.me should get you into their screen without installing anything i believe
We have about 220 employees and we've done video conferences with dozens of people connected. We even do webinars this way as well. Honestly, the platform is fantastic. Recording is easy, it has a nice mobile app (some of our meetings are 7am EST due to parent company in Germany) and so far we've had 1 person have issues with it. I mean 1 person out of thousands of demos and webinars. We tried Join.me, used to use skype and have go-to-meeting but zoom is by far the best!
It depends on what you're trying to do. If video is really important to the work you're doing, I would say Zoom is your best bet by far. If video is less important, join.me, webex, and uberconference are all pretty comparable (and cheaper) than Zoom.
If you're interested, our real estate investing association is having an interactive webinar tonight (Monday July 27) at 8 pm EST in which we discuss real estate investing. There will be an interactive webinar to give a guide for borrowers on finding true investor deals for funding by local private lenders.
If you'd like to learn how to get truly good deals that local lenders, mostly within CCREI, would have no trouble lending on, dial in with your phone tomorrow (Monday July 27) at 7:55 pm EST and be on your computer to see the visual part of the presentation:
For audio as well as interaction with each other:
Dial-in Number on your phone: 1-302-202-1104 Conference Code: 580966#
For visual, click the link below or copy and paste into your web browser on your compuiter:
While the topic will be on funding deals local to Columbia, SC, the basic principles apply anywhere in the country.
If you're going for 'just work or gtfo' software without any set up and privacy, https://join.me/ is an AMAZING piece of work. Just press a button and boom, streaming. Two more clicks and you got the URL copied to your clipboard. It is not suited for large audience streaming, but rather 2/3 clients/friends.
>I don't think they are going to track you for using it for freelancing gigs
After you use the free version of Teamviewer on multiple IP addresses, you are limited to 5 minute sessions.
Join.Me is a good choice, but there is an issue with UAC.
Okay, perhaps you could use a program like https://join.me/ which offers to share screens, have one person control the camera in spectator mode, and have the others on mumble with them and discuss what's going on.
Alternatively, go onto google documents, create a drawing (an option on the sidebar) and share it to your team's gmail accounts. Then you should all be able to draw on a screencap of the game, for example. Not sure if this is what you're looking for though.
https://join.me/ (Basic version specifically)
Basically a light version of Logmein that doesn't run constantly. Can be installed, or ran once. If my Mom can do it, anyone can do it. This is the best solution I've found.
For simple screenshots, do "print screen" and have them paste into Word, then email.
You might find this site useful as well: http://www.supportdetails.com/
Also, check out https://join.me it is the simplest screen sharing utility I've found. You might have to do some hand-holding to show them how to share their screen with you, but again, it's the simplest screen sharing I've found.
Complete bullshit, fvck teamviewer they are full of shit!
Get the tool: TVTools_AlterID or setup virtual machines! Twice a year they reset all the connections, so fvckem'
Idiots don't even know how to program shit! Complete morons. Don't forget they too have been compromised in the past with shady stealing of ID passwords.
They can't get shit right at all. They can't even keep the correct version number on their d/l page. Do not trust these fools.
But yet they rake in the mega billions from all of these stupid corporations!
Indeed go with AnyDesk, join.me, Windows Quick Assist, WinVNC, UltraVNC, Mikogo, GotoMyPc, CrossLoop (does anybody remember CL, fucking idiots went down too), RealVNC, Logmein, Chrome Remote Desktop, etc.
I agree that looks a bit more polished but we didn't want to lock users out of using other video conferencing platforms, this product appears to only work with Google. We've had countless vendor calls on the rally system with Teams, Meet, Zoom, GoToMeeting, join.me, etc
FWIW, I found a driver that device manager liked that's Polycom and not Microsoft. The gain slider is still at 100% in Sound Devices but a very brief before/after seems like the gain is higher with this driver. I'll test with Zoom and Join.Me when I get a chance.
Device manager now:
Polycom Communicator
Polycom Inc.
3/15/2010
7.0.6000.5
Because if you ever worked in a corporate environment, you might have used Lync, Teams, WebEx, Join.me, Gotomeeting, AT&T conferencing, etc.
Every single one of those apps is mediocre AT BEST. Zoom has been the best option amongst all of them. Why Redditors who haven't had at least a few years of working in companies where you web/teleconference regularly think they know everything about Zoom is so beyond me.

Does the orange box show up at the exact same time as those weird microphone/circle buttons below it?
A quick look around says that might belong to GeForce Experience. If you're using that, go into the Settings and turn off the 'in-game overlay' and see if that fixes it. If you're running Zoom or join.me, try turning those off and see if the orange box disappears from those, too.
Join.me also has IP address's. You can create a rule to allow all ports in and out from those address's

Enjoy the podcast. Sorry I missed your live stream on YouTube. When I use Zwift for indoor biking I live stream to Twitch.tv/texbiker. That is how I get through the COVID-19 hysteria. My day is different from yours since I am retired. I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook this week moving from a Pixelbook. I use it to write my daily blog posts, read the Houston Chronicle, watch YouTube, and work my emails. In the past I used my Pixelbook for WordPress Meetup's on Zoom and a service called Join.me. Weather permitting I go for a bike ride each day. My Pixel 3XL goes with me connecting my bike computer to the internet so my daughter can follow me as I ride. Like you I am looking forward to the new Lenovo Duet Chrome OS tablet. I don't know if you have found the Chrome Unboxed YouTube channel. They spend a lot of time on Pixel stuff.
man I'm sorry if you're an adult and never used zoom at work. Its so much better than webex, join.me, hangouts, skype, teams, bluejeans etc.
Yes they had some issues - part of it is that zoom allows you to have open meetings with endless attendees - that is great for conferences when all you need is the meeting ID.
I've been on all hands meetings with 1,000 employees via zoom. I really don't think discord can do that sorry.
You dont.
I used to manage alter Macs in a very large company and i used to spend a very large part of my time drawing up checklists for building Macs for our end users to make sure we could always access them remotely.
This included making sure there was a local admin account with a standardized username and password setup for us to manage things like this.
try using join.me and just have them run the web application and see if you can get in that way.
When I heard about this, I could really excited but then found out a lot of issues with it. This was when Netflix party had just come out.
You both have to have accounts for Netflix(I'm not sure if this is entirely true because I only tried it once) and the extension to be able to use it which cut out a lot of possibility because not everyone has that ability. :\
However! I wanted to spread some extra information for those that can't use Netflix.
Discord does screen share which, from what I've experienced, is really great. There's no real hassle and, if you get the volume right, you can still call with said partner so you get an even better experience! This works on mobile and computer because of Discord's app service so it opens the door to a lot of people.
There is also a few other websites/apps like Rave, Kast, Join.Me(you have to tinker with sound and it's a hassle) but I've found those aren't very good considering you can't watch a whole lot.
Thanks for putting the information out there anyway, u/PrinceAzazel55!
I honestly don't understand why everyone is talking about Zoom. I was a paying customer for about six months and I didn't feel like it was any better than many of the alternatives. I felt like GoToMeeting or join.me work just as well, albeit one GoToMeeting feels more professional than join.me.
Y'all can converse over Google Hangouts or join.me
>No payment is offered, just the mutual benefit of us both improving our Arabic. Your Arabic should be Intermediate level and above.
And OP can pay you for your time, since he is making demands like the one above.
Hello u/Candualist, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
I've actually done this a few times. I have used conference call software a lot. not sure which other ones i've tried but i know join.me worked well for me. You can also try art streaming stuff like twitch, youtube live, picarto, etc.
You couldn't a few months ago. Teams was VERY limited. It was hilarious running into the limitations while on a call with Microsoft support (at the corporate level) - I guess they committed to Teams internally. We ended up using our own Join.Me for the call.
I think you're missing the overall point though - as much as you're automating things on your side, you're still making your customers do the "work" themselves. Why couldn't you do that yourselves, and work with a user via join.me or some other on-demand remote access tool to get the first agent installed, and you go from there?
I've tried those. He can't figure out Chrome Remote Desktop, and Join.Me won't let me set up to take control of his system unless it's the Pro version. SplashTop doesn't want to work, it just keeps telling me to install the Streamer. I did, and it just continues to tell me to install the streamer.

I'm really wondering how much I care to fix his issue, now that I've found out it's just some damned porn chat program that wants to update. I could probably just tell him to go ahead and run it, if it weren't for the fact that I really don't trust it, and don't want to drive an hour away to have to do a malware removal.
Thanks to you guys, I remembered that at work we have WebEx. I could just open a room temporarily and get connected that way if it comes down to it. I also ran across (NAME REMOVED), which I know one of our vendors has used due to pricing vs TeamViewer. I'll try that first, as I really don't want to use work resources for this.

Nah, I'm ok with it. My only big complaint is their mysterious refusal to support legitimate fullscreen except under specific conditions, our sales team ends up paying for Join.Me so they can have the fullscreen and because it will let someone see their screen without installing anything. For stuff that isn't trying to be the "perfect presentation" its fine.
Can you elaborate on how TeamViewer has a shoddy approach to security? That is one of my family's primary concerns, as they are running a business. I've heard pretty good things about join.me though!
My stream is https://join.me/YellAtMePls and there is no voice from my end but there is a group call option if people are interested chatting with each other. If you are not familiar with join.me it’s like a meeting program, can be used in browser or on your phone if you download the app.
Just post a request and join the stream! I could use the company, i’m feeling pretty blue today and sorry for the traditional examples! It’s all I had on my phone lmao.
I will delete the thread when I finish streaming to avoid confusion.
Every request is welcome, nsfw things are through paid commissions only though! Dm me if you’re interested in a commission! $15 each fb full color anything, +$2 for winged characters or chacats.
Hmm, I thought I sent you a message about offering up a join.me session, I guess not! If you're comfortable with it, https://join.me/storagethere (I'm drinking a glass of fine wine, sitting on my computer doing nothing important), my name is Charley Hinton if you want to put a name around the trust. Otherwise, I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding that's going on at this point, and I don't think the back and forth is going to get you anywhere very quickly!
If you do a screen share, have both systems up in the window (one local, one in RDP), already authenticated, I can bounce in between the two while you watch, and probably figure the problem out pretty quickly. I can give you a summary of the WHY afterwards, and you'll be smarter for tomorrow!
I know this may be out of line... but do you want to jump on a join.me and knock this out right quick?
https://join.me/storagethere ... I know this is a general trust/security issue, but I think I can figure it out. :)
I manage a small fund that invests solely in digital currencies and do a weekly screen share/pod cast (call it what you will) every Thursday @ 1:15EST. If you're available at that time to list, please feel free to jump in :)
(Link below) https://join.me/digital_currency_investments
Yes. On the free version it the person you want to connect to goes to Join.me and starts a meeting. It will create a link like https://join.me/123-456-789. If you're using a paid version you can create your own personalized url that replaces the 9 digit code. Once connected, you can pass the presenter role back and forth and also allow/request remote control. The only issue I've seen with remote control is that join.me does not play well with UAC prompts and windows. It renders your input useless until the UAC elevated window or prompt is closed.

Just putting this info out there - I loved Teamviewer and used it for 2+ years personally, but then it started nagging about paying for Commercial use (I used it to access my clients' machines from home Linux machine). So I switched to https://join.me. Not as good, but free for one user even for commercial use.
The simplest way I've seen is this https://join.me one little file. Doesn't need to be installed. Doesn't need set up. Just gives you a number/web address to share with other people when you want to show other people your screen.
I wonder if you could use a service like join.me to see your bomber's/gunner's view. You'd need to have a second monitor (or computer) and a friend willing to dedicate the time to bombing/gunning for you.
You may not need Pro. I don't see any legalese about "Business Use" on the website. Here's the spiel about the differences.
I've used it primarily in those situations you're talking about where it's an out-of-the-way user or you're in a hurry.
https://join.me/ is the best thing i've ever seen to be able to fix my parents computer from afar... Better and easier than remote desktop, gotomypc, etc. Free, fast, barely any installation. Now when I get phonecalls about broken computers, there's already an email in my inbox with a joinme link.
I've been using join.me for work related purposes.
at home, i signed up for a free dyndns.com account and have vnc/ftp/ssh setup in OS X through the remote management, remote login, and file sharing services. the screen sharing services is handled by the remote management service after you set this up.
Ever use this extension? :-)
> They suck, I use [join.me](https://join.me/) instead. [](/pft "Copyright © 2010-2011 LogMeIn, Inc.")
How do you go about not making him local admin? You create a separate user account without admin privileges and anytime you want to install something you have to log off and back in the admin account? I remember reading you just right click and run as administrator? Does it become a hassle? Can you elaborate or have a website or reddit link i can read more about?
Also, out of the remote access options, which do you like the best? Personally I've used join.me (made by Logmein) because it's really easy without any software to install. I found Logmein kind of a hassle and don't have experience setting up remote desktop/assistance.
