Good opportunity to shout out to MetroHero which might have saved you the trouble. It's way better than the crappy 3 train electronic display that shows DLY with no other info. It'll give estimates of how far away a train is instead of DLY as well as how long it's been holding. And it shows all trains down the line so you can see if there's any other trains coming.
If you have Prime, these "you're illegally parked" stickers could be in your hands before the week is out. I just wouldn't let one of the cops see you sticking one on their car. $5 says they turn off their body cam before addressing your concern as a citizen.
Learn a few major lines on the bus system. It's cheaper than metro and allows free transfers to other busses (inc Circulators)for 2 or 2.5 hrs after you first board.
The overall bus map is crazy complicated and probably scares a ton of people away, but if you just know a few lines depending on where you live and work it can be very helpful.
For example, the 30's go all the way from Friendship Heights to Naylor Rd in Anacostia, through downtown, Eastern Market and the National Mall.
Editing to add a couple of apps that will help:
DC Metro Transit - I like the interface on this one better than BusTrack DC and it includes circulator info and bus lines in PG, FFX and Arlington. It helps to already know your stop # and where you are going.
BusTrack DC - This one goes a long way to removing the intimidation factor of the busses. Just open it up and you'll see a map of where you are with bus stops. Click on a stop and see what busses are coming and when. And, if you select a particular bus from that list it will bring up a map of where it's going - very helpful if you're in unfamiliar territory.
It isn't a mattress store, it is a furniture and mattress store.
Look at photo 2 in your set. Style 632 Burg.
http://www.meridianfurnitureusa.com/sitefiles/product-641/632BURG.html
The picture matches exactly.
Looks like a pretty shitty furniture store though. The pictures on the walls are just posters and the walls have a terrible paint job in that they go around all of the electrical conduits.
But if these are in your drop box see if you can extract location data from them.

Did you ask for ... "reimbursement for one night’s lodging in the form of an electronic travel certificate that may be applied to future travel on UA"?
Even though they say they don't provide you lodging, that's something you may be able to get out of them.
Something else that they'll sometimes do is get you a room under the contracts they have for this stuff - you'll just have to pay for it.
That can save you a good bit of money.
Otherwise, if you wanted to go cheap, pretty close by, and not completely devoid of anything to do, saw this on AirBNB at One Loudoun for $60, which is a mixed-use development just north of the airport.
If money's not as much of a concern, Reston Town Center or Tysons Corner both have some walkability, a bar or two, and are within 20 minutes or so of the airport.

Since they never seem to be working, why not try Metro Escalators?
According to http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g28970-c56842/Washington-Dc:District-Of-Columbia:Metrorail.Trivia.html
Longest Continuous Escalator: Wheaton (Red Line) - 230 feet long. Woodley Park-Zoo (Red Line) is deeper (154' vs. 140') but vertical access consists of two escalators, the longest of which is 204'. Second longest escalator is Bethesda (Red Line) at 213'10". Third longest is Woodley Park-Zoo at 204', and fourth longest is Medical Center (Red Line) at 202'6". Rosslyn (Blue/Orange) ranks a paltry fifth, with an escalator of only 194'8" in length and Dupont Circle's northern entrance is in sixth place at 188'10". For the trivia-minded, the escalators travel at 90 feet per minute and transport you at a 30-degree angle.

according to kayak, you can get a ticket for $309 or so. It's into Standstead, but...
Now he's getting in serious trouble and likely to get banned by DHS/INS which will prove to be seriously inconvenient.
With his luck, INS will deport him to Canada.
Good news, people of /r/washingtondc, I just opened my online shop!
I'm really grateful to this community for all the support. It's been a very exciting year, and I wanted to give back a little of the love I've received. So, what about a giveaway?
First one that writes here the names of all the birds of the illustration, gets a 8x10 print for free :)
Ready? go!
EDIT: Aaaand we have a winner! Thanks to everyone for sending your replies, and kudos to /u/kmoonster, who knows the birds better than most of us. As a Bonus, here are some behind-the-scenes photos of the Lights Out DC documentation day.
EDIT: Well, since kmoonster gave away his present, I'm gonna look at the comments again and try to pick a winner for the print. I'm gonna announce it next Monday. Stay tuned!
You get major credit for even raising the contributory negligence/comparative negligence issue...but I'm not sure if the conclusion is right for a pedestrian hit in a crosswalk. (admittedly I write this without really reviewing the case law):
Its not clear to me that there is any negligence in crossing in a crosswalk since the law demands that vehicles yield to pedestrians and it is not unreasonable to expect a car to yield.
Even if contributory negligence on the part of the plaintiff pedestrian is found, in any scenario where a pedestrian crosses in a crosswalk with enough distance from an oncoming car that the driver could break (which is to say, any case where a pedestrian isn't deliberately trying to get hit, but rather trying to force a car to stop) the driver will likely have the last clear chance to avoid the accident. DC recognizes the last clear chance exception to contributory negligence, and thus a partially negligent plaintiff could recover under the District's law. Of course the last clear chance doctrine would not be available in cases where either the plaintiff bolted in front of a car at such a distance that the driver would be unable to stop the vehicle in time.
William H. BYRD v. Raymond T. HAWKINS 404 A.2d 941 (1979)(DC Court of Appeals) found that a last clear chance instruction is required in a case involving an oblivious pedestrian who failed to adequately look both ways while crossing a sidewalk being struck by a driver who failed to swerve or break despite allegedly having time to do so.
So it looks like this is a user-submitted map depicting what D.C. would look like if it were split up into districts. It makes a lot more sense when you scroll down to the section of this page that says "Comprehensive districts proposal." http://wikitravel.org/en/Talk:Washington,_D.C./Districts_discussion
You must have upgraded to iOS 6.

I still use these adapters in my 150-yo farmhouse
And I have to keep a stock of glass fuses.
There's an app called Citymapper (also a website https://citymapper.com/dc) that's really helpful for tourists trying to figure out whether the metro/bus/taxi/walking is the best idea. I'd suggest you give it a shot, it's really accurate and easy to use.
That said your friend has done you a real disservice making you both think the metro is so dangerous. You'll be completely fine.
I’m a medical user and have been for years. I understand it’s not everybody’s thing and some of my neighbors smoke more than I do and others are terrified of it. Different folks for different tokes.
I use door skirts on the room I use as well as door skirts on the front door that leads to the hallway. I have three HEPA filter units runnin. They have auto detection so they just fire up when I do. I also use a desktop vaporizer which still smells but since there is no smoke, it doesn’t hang in the air.
These are things I do to minimize impact on others. That being said, my building has no such rule and yours does. I’m a user but shit, if they signed a lease with certain rules, they should abide by them. I’d report to management.

UPDATE: Thanks, y'alll. Looks like it's a modified version of EquipExtended ExtraBold Italic. I love her, but I'm not willing to buy a one-time font for $50. Using Google's Oswald, instead.
She just published a memoir about what happened. She’s an excellent writer and it’s worth the read. I was lucky enough to read the galley. You can find it here.
Her and I are good friends and work at the same place. That little family is incredible, I’ll tell you what.
Give this new metro app a try if you have delays: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hodgepig.wmata
Great for visualizing where the nearest trains are, and report on delays at your stations. Crowd sourced metro info!
*full disclaimer, the app author posted last night and I've only looked at this once so far. But it's a good chance to test it out, and works better when more people are adding info.
Other people have answered this but I'll add on:
> Considering i will be carrying luggage, which is the best way to get from BWI to union station using public transport? Amtrak, Bus, MARC? Which is the easiest/least time consuming way?
After landing, take the shuttle bus from the airport to the train depot (5 minutes). Look at the schedule; if there's a MARC train coming in the next 30 minutes ($8) take that, otherwise pay the $20 for Amtrak. You do not need SmartTrip for this. I would do it the night before, too many potential misfires in the AM. There's a decent hostel about a 5-10 minute walk from Union Station ($45); I'd take the MARC the night before, stay at the hostel (there's a bunch of bars and restaurants around there), and walk to the bus in the AM- probably about $60, versus sleeping in the airport and having to pay $20 for the Amtrak in the AM.
I would expect there is something at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Judiciary Square.
It’s a beautiful memorial. And peaceful there at night.
Thanks! I have, it's a great site.
I didn't participate in the contest because I didn't actually live here yet when it was going on, but I do have my own sort of unconventional map I did, in addition to this, which you can see here if you'd like. I don't necessarily think it's a better map, it's just a neat idea.
I also did the to-scale Metro map that was posted here a while ago.
... I like maps I guess is what I'm saying :B
I was living in College Park at the time and when we finally dug out and got to Rt 1 we went looking for liquor stores and nothing was open! We ended up having to go all the way up to Vet's Liquors and they were absolutely mobbed.
There is no inherent risk of keeping your AC on during hot days, that is what its for. The problem is when all the houses on the block crank the AC as low as it goes the electrical distribution network is going to struggle to keep up. Recommend this book if you would like to know more about the electrical grid.
It isn't complicated. You go to your car's dealer, possibly AutoZone, or spend $10 on Amazon and use your own drill. Or look up '[year] [make] [model] front license plate mount'. Literally no excuse to take care of this.
If this subject interests you I'd like to recommend the book A Way Out of No Way, which recounts stories from a Virginia plantation.
If you say so. But if you want to read an actual academic study on what lobbying can and can't accomplish, here's a good one for you:

Shameless plug for a takeout place in my neighborhood (Brookland area) called City Kabob & Curry House. Actually, Groupon has a good deal for the "Sizzling Feast for Two," which I've had a couple of times now, and which could be stretched to feed 3, as it's a lot of food.
Delicious food, super cool owner, and plenty of parking! Probably out of most folks' way though.
Can't beat Spa World, currently has a Mother's Day groupon deal for $25
Edit: Link to Groupon special. Tell them "Bubba" sent you for an extra $5 off.
Screw them. They are making plenty of money and are valued at 2.9 billion.
Yes they lost a lot last year due to buy companies on stock but they are doing very well for themselves.
Doesn't sound like they cant afford it. Sounds like they don't want to.
Actually there are pretty good flights to Zagreb right now for next Spring. Flights are usually $1k plus and right now there are some in the $600s.
I mean, there are like multiple huge red flags in what you posted.
Edit: Here's the "scams" advice on Craigslist. These are good rules. Follow them.
I don't work for Metro, but I do know that maintenance is done after hours. If it's critical then they'll just single track for that portion of tunnels. There are a couple of cars called "feeler cars" that do something like brushing the tunnel ceilings to clear debris.
There's a guy who pops up on here from time to time who used to maintain an interesting set of pages about the DC Metro. It appears he no longer has it on his website, but luckily the Internet Archive has a copy:
https://web.archive.org/web/20110524181118/http://transit.schuminweb.com/transit/wmata/index.php
Some interesting things to be read! The "Miscellaneous" page has a bit about an abandoned tunnel in Pentagon City :O
They were separate municipalities until 1871, then wholly integrated into the modern structure in the 1890s, but they still didn't have any voting rights and they were largely under the control of Congress from 1801 onwards. Interestingly, between 1790 when the district was created and 1801 when Congress formally organized the government, people who lived there still elected members to the Virginia and Maryland state governments.
The history of DC's representation (or lack thereof) is a history of racist exclusion from at least the Civil War and on. I'd recommend you check out the Wikipedia page about DC voting rights, and read Chocolate City
I would not get something with a heel. While we don't get a lot of snow, we do get ice/freezing rain. You want something with grip and stability. Waterproof is good. I mostly wear some Solomon snow clogs I got several years ago, similar to these: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N6JLEB9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9HjZDbHWZ3QYR
So first of all, do not go for the 2 day pass. The buses are great for getting a tour around the city, but they are not worth it to use as transit from one sight to the other.
What you should do is buy this Groupon for DC Trails. $51 will get you a 24 hour ticket for you, your girlfriend, and your kid. Take one full loop and enjoy the tour, then get dropped off at whatever museum or memorial or attraction you want to visit first. When you're done, if you see a bus coming, grab it. If not, use the $117 you saved by not buying the Big Bus 2 day pass to take the Metro or an Uber wherever you want to go. Rinse and repeat at each attraction.
Also you will be fine with your backpack. You will have to open it up for security at museums but that's it.
By the way--oh my god i have shivers imagining how perfect this might be--

Their theme is Lincoln, so they have an entire floor of pennies. Oh my god. That would be so fucking perfect.
Related to your actual question: no idea where you could get that many pennies.
I buy Costco steaks for filet mignon, as I love my steaks very rare. All their other steaks are mechanically tenderized (at least they labelled it as such before legally required) and require to be cooked to a higher temperature for "safe" consumption. I also get get a lot of their chicken and pork products.
Large quantities of meat are not an issue, just separate (or cut if it's the huge pork tenderloins), individually wrap (I tightly wrap in foil and group inside labelled ziplocks) and freeze, only takes 10 minutes. Thaw what you need by putting it in the fridge the day before.
EDIT: more info on blade tenderizing http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/what-is-mechanical-tenderizing-and-why-is-it-hazardous-to-your-steak/ http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2013/06/has-your-steak-been-mechanically-tenderized/index.htm

Seems like they can achieve speeds of 18 mph. On that basis I'd strongly recommend a helmet. You can pick one up for 20 bucks on amazon.
I love this tweet from a rarely-updated fake WMATA twitter account:

Did you click the link to Paris in the original post? I'm still seeing flights in the $300s on Google flights in December.
Let me know if it's still not working for you.
I'd recommend what I usually do which is to pick up the D&D Starter Set ($13 on Amazon) and just run the self-contained adventure inside. It guides you through it. Grab a couple friends and have at it! If you're not comfortable, head over to r/lfg and find an online game to play in, get your feet wet first. Or check out some of the board game shops like the Labyrinth, they're starting to host D&D games again.

Over covid when they ran out of trash cans, dpw said you could just buy any old plastic trash can from a hardware store and they would empty it. Some of my neighbors were using similar to https://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Commercial-Products-FG263200GRAY-Heavy-Duty/dp/B00002N60O/ref=asc_df_B00002N60O/ with success.
They've since gotten more dc-branded Toters in stock so don't know if that's still true. Might be worth the $50 experiment to save you a run to ft Totten or awkward intro to your neighbor.
I will offer that most residents have felt the sting of not having enough trash cans. Could be a good ice breaker with a neighbor. If a new neighbor explained the situation to me, I'd gladly allow them to top off my cans on trash night.
Somewhat related: if you have raccoons, I've found these to be effective at stopping them from ripping open the bags inside the can: https://www.amazon.com/Critter-Clip-hinged-easily-installs/dp/B07L9FFMCQ

If it's any consolation. How most of the world heard the Inaugural Address:
> Through blood drawn by lash and blood drawn by sword, we learned that no union founded on the principles of liberty and equality could survive half-slave and half-free. We made ourselves anew, and vowed to move forward together.
How I heard the Inaugural Address:
> Through blood drawn by ABORTION IS SIIIIIN, we learned that no union founded on the principles of liberty and equality THE BABIES CRY OUT FOR EQUALITY AND JUSTIIIIIICE. We made ourselves anew, and THE BLOOD OF INNOCENT MILLIONS HAS BEEN SPIIIIILED.
If elected, would you ride it daily/regularly?
Google says it's just a 20 minute ride to the Brookland Station from the Wilson building. Unlike driving you'd be able to do some reading on your commute and mingle with constituents.
So left on red is a thing in some states, according my below source 37 states. In NC if you're turning from a one way to a one way its legal. Its basically the same thing as right on red in that situation. I do not believe this is legal in DC, however; I'm not sure.
This states its not legal in DC, however; not the best sourcing.
There's also one in Dulles. I prefer the one in Dulles because I found that more informative. They have very knowledgeable tour guides in Dulles and they are free. On my last trip, my tour guide was a retired Airforce pilot who flew F-105's during the war in Vietnam.
Check out this RideWithGPS user: https://ridewithgps.com/users/554522
He has some neat routes including a few centuries. Also leads some local weekly rides.
But as someone else said, come on by /r/BikeDC
Ya'll are welcome to come by my friends' weekly meetup (weeknights at rotating locations around downtown): DC Game Night. We usually have around 10-25 folks, and we play the same kind of games that I've seen at the Mighty Pint (and don't mind teaching stuff to new folks at all). Also, we don't bite. Well, actually, Alex bites sometimes.
This week is Wednesday from 6-10pm at SoHo Tea and Coffee in Dupont; next Thursday we'll be at Labyrinth Games near Eastern Market.
This is a great question. Others have touched on this, but sometimes there are plenty of shelters but they're not seen as safe places to be. Here's a good in-depth overview of some fears/concerns.
It was cold on Jan 20th 2009. Jan 20th 2017 was downright warm in comparison.
There's more legal legwork to be done, but essentially the trademark is on the path to abandonment. Funny thing is that in order to keep a trademark, you need to be using it.

Geiger counters aren't Universal. I have one of the Amazon ones but without a pancake sensor it will not detect Alpha radiation so it depends what you're trying to detect. (the more expensive ones do/have it as an option)
EDIT: Checked OP's post history, I think I know why, PM me if you want to borrow it. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JWB7TJ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in downtown DC
I used mine to see how much radiation we get on long haul flights for fun and don't use it much.
To give you an idea I used to commute from Deanwood metro (just past Benning road) to Crystal city (so over the 14th st bridge). It was about 11 miles each way. So I would guess you're probably looking at about a 20 mile ride. But certainly very easy (although take your time on both 14th st bridge and Douglas bridge, they are both rather narrow).
Edit: Here is an old strava route for reference.... Note - this was some time ago, the trail has improved since then.
If you really want to try this, the best spot is probably here, on Constitution Avenue due south of the White House. There's legal street parking along that stretch of Constitution (though it's hard to find a spot during tourist hours) and there's nearby access to Rt. 66 and Rt. 395.
That being said, it is going to be a hassle. Moving between the interstate highway system and DC's 18th-century street layout is confusing, and there's very little street parking close to the historic/touristy parts of Washington since 9/11.
The Constitution Avenue location is far enough from the White House that you won't run into Secret Service unless you're acting really strange, but it's plenty safe to leave your car there for a few minutes.
There are quite a few group houses in the DC area, ranging from the full-on communal housing experience (shared food, raising food, etc) to more mainstream (sharing bills, chore wheel, etc). Many of them post open rooms on this Google Group listserv. The most visible group house in the area is Maitri House in Takoma. I recommend reaching out to them to get on their newsletter to be notified about open rooms. Good luck and congrats on your internship!

I found a copy at the Mary Riley Styles library in Falls Church. Here's some other library locations: http://www.worldcat.org/title/great-society-subway-a-history-of-the-washington-metro-with-a-new-preface/oclc/888989519&referer=brief_results
Where did I say that was average? It's not average but it's definitely not rare.
Sorry you don't make 100k I guess. I don't either but I don't get all butthurt when when someone acknowledges the fact that other people do.
The evidence is all around you. Do you really think the thousands and thousands of people buying $700k+ houses are all independently wealthy? Come on dude. There are over 5,000 listings on Indeed for jobs in DC that pay over 100K. If those are just the vacancies, imagine how many actual positions there are.
M, 30 yo, income approx $75k a year. I’m a contractor so it changes based on actual hours worked.
Living tight is a sign that you either have too much debts, too many expenses, or not enough income. Based off the income you quoted, that is not your problem.
I’m betting that you have a lot of unpaid debts and/or are spending above your means. It’s time to get real with your debts and your expenses. As the OP of the Frugal In DC post, I feel you. I’m $80k in debt, I have no assets, and I’m starting to make some drastic changes to dig myself out of a hole.
The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to sign up for YNAB and take their free classes. Then go to the library and check out Dave Ramsey’s book <em>Total Money Make Over</em> and read it cover to cover. If you aren’t Christian (I am not) you can just skip over the religious parts. His website and podcast are not as helpful as the book so make sure to start with the book. His financial advice is rock solid.
>If only there were a website that tracked that kind of information. God knows where you would find one though.
Thanks! As stated in my post, I did research. I was mostly asking for experience of people who have allergies. Have you never looked at data and wondered about how it translated?
An option for not liking my post is to simply not read it.
I've recently started using Songkick as it pulls up shows by artists on your last.fm profile coming to whatever area(s) you specify. I used to LOVE the iconcertcal app and the way that connected to iTunes, but smething in it broke after iTunes 10, and it doesn't look like the developer is active anymore. It's still a decent app for seeing ALL shows nearby, it just doesn't connect to iTunes to match your artists anymore (and it's not free).
As for websites: ShowListDC is a good starting point. There was another site making the rounds here a few months ago, but I don't have it bookmarked on this computer.
If you're not too far from Arlington you can try the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless. I started volunteering there recently and they mainly need help with the children, but there's also a lot of help you can do with the adults, especially if you're bilingual.
I also made a doc with all the local homeless shelters I could find because I was going to give it to a homeless man I saw frequently. The night I made it he left and never came back. Soooo might as well put it to use in other ways...clicky clicky.
Consider contacting these shelters and ask if there's anything you can do to help.
Also, keep in mind that if it's specifically the homeless men you want to help, you may have a harder time doing so. Unfortunately one of the things I realized while homeless myself (as a young female) is that the men get brushed aside a lot. There are much fewer resources for the men, much fewer shelters who take men in, and much fewer spaces for men (esp men with families) in shelters. It's very unfortunate, but just assume you'll be working with the women and children of a given shelter. Maybe DC is different, but I kinda doubt it. :/
Have you tried something like this?

The sad part is that cars pass by and don't even stop to help the old man.
What is wrong with our political leadership!? They are busy talking about Defund the police and release criminals, instead of protect the public.
My Chinese friend swears by "Great Wall Szechuan House" in Logan Circle as authentic. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=1527+14th+St+NW+Washington+DC+20005+ it might help to get "real" food if you speak Mandarin.
Wow dude, you're totally awesome for telling me like it is. I'm so ashamed and humbled by your geographic awareness. Thanks for sharing.
Check OpenStreetMaps. It's openly sourced data and very bike-centric. Here's DC closeup with the Bike Layer enabled: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/38.94240/-77.05012&layers=CN I'm not sure what the difference between red and blue trail symbology is though.
15 ______ (insert word you prefer that won't offend you here)
If you use the inspect feature in Chrome, it looks to be built on D3.js.
Completely agree with your point on what the map is. It's meant to show geographic variation. Not to show absolutes in the overall voting.
We definitely aim to curate a wide array of events on our calendar, in terms of geography, cost, and types of events. If you think something isn't on our radar, please submit it to us: https://airtable.com/tbljTo8qqmSKgNdXT/viwwjJEfOZc2ePL2f

I have one of these. I feel like a doofus using it and it's a little bigger when it's folded up than I would like, but so far it seems sturdy and well enough made. I had a plastic one that worked well for 10-15 trips, and then the axle bent so much the wheels no longer turned right. So far this seems better than that one.
If you can find one that doesn't make you feel goofy and self conscious, please let me know.
>For practical reasons, the outlet on most dehumidifiers is usually no more than a foot or so off the ground, so unless you have a floor drain it's useless. And bathtubs don't always work as floor drains either if the tub walls are taller than the dehumidifier outlet.
Or just put a condensate pump on it and send the water wherever you want.
If it’s any consolation I’ve lived most of my life without ac, including 20+ years in the DMV. There are definitely low-tech ways to keep cool(ish). CNN has some ideas, and I’ve used several of them myself.
Close all your blinds early in the day. Also, consider applying acrylic film to the inside of your windows. I have just bought a roll to test and am hopeful it will block some of the heat. Blackout curtains are another inexpensive way to keep the heat from getting in. I get used to the darkened living space, and boy does it feel good to come in to a cool, dark apartment after being blasted by the sun.
Put a container of ice in front of your fans.
Drink plenty of water.
Take a quick, cold shower.
Take a cold bath, preferably one with ice cubes floating around and a cold drink in your hand!
> was saying 100% out a tag in it and that it helps them find the bikes with a better turnout
Airtags would not work well, you want something like this
I'm going to be pushy, then. Use a loan calculator. If you take out 100k in loans at 6.8%, and want to pay that back over ten years, you'll be paying $1,150 month--40k in interest over 10 years. Source. Add to that the ~100k in lost income (if you're making 50k / year for two years), and you're out two years of raises, plus the lost income, plus the loans. That's 140k for the school and 100k for the lost income.
Now, would you prefer your current job, plus a quarter million dollars, or to start as a first-year person in your new career, with a degree, a and a questionably-large raise?
Don't rely on me, of course, because, being from the internet, I'm probably just a dog who knows how to type. But if you write out your plan and it doesn't work... it doesn't work. And if you need to be reminded of why you're not special, and why the rules do apply to you, can you watch Fight Club again. Or check out Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow."
Click radar on the right. It's coming.
> The listing doesn't make the proposed site for a Ward 5 shelter sound too appealing. For $113 a night, you can get "Overpriced apartment stone's throw from CSX train tracks, cement mixing facility, Metro bus barn and job opps at Stadium strip club. 45 min walk to Metro. Shared bath. No houses in sight. Start your new life on a dead-end street."
It seems very possible.
Here is the google image of the track segment. There is a pretty tight curve on both ends. It may be that the girls on the bridge caused the train engineers to mascalculate the breaking?
Go to Union Station, then you can walk to Lower Senate Park (its right in front of the Capitol).
There will be way less people there, and we saw people having a picnic there yesterday. There's a reflecting pool too.
<strong>These photos</strong> were taken there yesterday.
Get a cheap camera, you can turn an old android phone into a wireless surveillance system or even just buy a slightly older one for cheap. I used this to catch homeless people stealing packages outside my apartment (left a note pointing out the camera once I got their faces on the tape. guy looked up, said fuck and walked away) never had to deal with the police

Check out Map My Ride.
Search for Washington, DC as your location. You can choose the length, as well as the type (Run, Ride, etc.). There are comments on some and you can sort by various factors.

I have three. They’re fantastic.
My bike kit, is 2 zip-locks doubled up for waterproof. A bunch of square gauze, re-rolled medical tape around a small thing of triple antibiotic, alcohol prep pads, ibuprofen in a small pill baggie, pair of nitrile gloves, small cpr barrier. That is about it. I fit all of that along with a spare tube, co2 cartridge, multi-tool, and some cash in this saddle bag.
Drinking beer, usually in front of a televised sporting event (NHL, NBA, NFL).
Reading. Finishing up Chocolate City, very interesting and accessible book on DC history.
Been a lazy weekend so far but I do intend to go for a long walk/hike tomorrow, probably in the Reston area, basically somewhere far away from downtown.
Our cats love their window hammock! Highly recommend getting one!
As far as recommendations for where to get cheap pet stuff, NextDoor would be a good bet.
I recommend you go rent a few times and just experience it for yourself. Figure out the best way to paddle and position yourself. Once you are feeling confident enough to get your own this book is a really good resource:

If you're more interested in bus times I find Transit App to be a little bit friendlier to use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thetransitapp.droid&hl=en
The DC Metro Transit app is great but it's a bit of a pain in the ass for buses if you don't consistently want to know about a couple of specific stops.
DC Metro Transit gives real-time predictions for the Metrorail, Metro Bus, Circulator, Arlington Transit (ART), PG County - The Bus, Fairfax CUE, and UMD Shuttle.
