Bloody wonderful.
I had this site open at the time (it has nice sounds to relax to). Anyways, one slider was at Beach - 100%, another for Seagulls - 5%, and lastly, one at Thunder - 50%... the combined effect of all three and the song was amazing, for me at least.
It felt very powerful. Like how I think of this song.
I use it in the background all the time. Custom nature sounds, with the ability to change the intervals at which you hear them and the volume. It's neat to put on a low waterfall (should one be around), intermittent bird chirps, and wind rustling through the leaves. Makes building outside really fun.
Granted, cave noises and stuff like that would be great (as well as birds changing over to, say, owls at night), but I'd think it would be pretty tricky to implement.
You can also get it online: http://naturesoundsfor.me/
The comment I posted here links to a Spotify playlist that sounds more natural (less loopy) than the stuff on that website.
Rain is fun! I wish I could get a perfume that smells of fresh rain on warm soil. (-:
There's also nature sounds for me, which I'm personally obsessed with. It's good for everything from studying, reading, cleaning, meditating, and sleeping. (Probably want to arrange things so that you don't associate the same sounds for each task though.)
I think audio samples might be more available (vs VSTs). I found this site which has different sounds and an option to export to audio. You can probably find a ton more by searching "wind/rain/birds sound effect".
oh god I wish I read that before posting about melatonin. Night terrors suck.
I mean, your brain has obviously changed since then, so it's totally possible it won't have that effect. Perhaps if you're having trouble it may be worth testing, but if it still happens obviously don't keep up with it.
I also use L-tryptophan, which contributes to sleep and improves your mood (possibly also contributing to mania, but sleep moreso in my experience (don't combine this with an SSRI without a lengthy discussion with your psychiatrist)).
naturesoundsfor.me also helped me make a sleep thing I listen to. (http://naturesoundsfor.me/tranquil_firecat) if you're interested.
Honestly, I've been using melatonin for years and I swear by it. I have a hard time sleeping without it, but it's easier to adjust to sleep without it than ambien was. I think I've developed very little tolerance, and even when I have no tiredness or will to sleep, if I take it and turn out the lights and try to sleep, I have a great night sleep. I never feel groggy in the morning (at least not compared to life before bipolar or before meds).
You may want to look into sleep hygiene to help you sleep better, like not using your bed when you're not trying to sleep (or well, do other adult-y things). Personally, vyvanse was euphoric. It was still probably bad for me though, so I think I'm better without it.
If you use a laptop, you may find playing something like this nature sounds mix I made as you try to sleep helps.
I feel really uncomfortable relying on sleeping pills for sleep, but melatonin has been quite kind to me.
This one seems to be hugged by reddit just a little bit too tight.
The other one linked below, www.rainymood.com, is still up, and I can throw in another one: naturesoundsfor.me.
Enjoy!
I got a better one for you, worked for me. Just ignore the fuck out of what people is throwing at you, karma is a bitch trust me. Sometime you will end up carrying the flamer's ass when he's been on your case the whole game, then at the end you get that satisfied feeling without having to respond to their flaming. If it doesn't work, ignore works like a charm, not a good idea in ranked but if it gets to the point you can't play normally because you spend your time replying to his flaming why not ? I see so much people waste time replying, when they miss like 5-10 cs they could have gotten if they just ignored, might seems like nothing but if you keep doing that you are pretty far behind mid game. But if that works for you, here I got one (http://naturesoundsfor.me/) where you can mix nature sound loops and make it to your liking, I use that to sleep when I just can't sleep.
I use it a lot, I downloaded the audio file (easy to find the link using wireshark) and put it on my ipod. Helps me concentrate at work when there's a lot of noise around, and helps me fall asleep at night as well... I was looking for the same kind of sound without the thunder but couldn't find one with rain that sounded this real...
I do this often, but I have to turn on music or some kind of background sound, http://naturesoundsfor.me/ is great, since my fans emit such a terrible sound I can't sleep.
> This sub is of infinate use when it comes to trading stories and developing coping skills together. We are stronger together.
Honestly, I think I've learned more about meds than coping skills here. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but mostly reinforcing that I agree we need to facilitate more conversations on coping tools, because if you haven't noticed, I use chemicals at times I shouldn't and sometimes get very dangerously low on coping tools.
But for noise machines I've got one better. ...okay, two better. This and this. Since I basically never turn off my laptop and leave it next to my bed at night, these websites help more than the physical machine I've got kicking around. plus cat purring sounds!
I love generating storms at sea. Waves, wind, thunder.
http://naturesoundsfor.me/
That one has a wider selection, meaning I can also add seagulls and the likes.

rainymood.com and naturesoundsfor.me are personal favorites. I'd also recommend searching YouTube - the "related video" list will be a gold mine.
Ooh, hey, try this! I use it all the time. The best part is, it's endless, so you don't have to worry about it shutting off after you go to sleep. It really helps me get less interrupted, more restful sleep.
Trazodone and seroquel both knocked me the fuck out. I take melatonin every night, and it signals to my brain it's time to sleep. Sometimes I get restless and it's harder, but I don't need ambien anymore. Also, I don't recommend mixing pain pills and alcohol. Some combinations of them can cause liver damage.
This may not be viable for you, but it's worth thinking about: if you get a lot of exercise in during the day, like run a couple miles or do a lot of lifting and get some cardio in, it's easier to sleep for most people (myself included). It's also helped to spend less time on the couch, not to eat close to bed, and to practice good sleep hygiene and not look at tv/computer screens for something like a half hour before bed.
I also use my laptop as a noise machine with this nature sounds mix to help me relax, and in the past to drown out the sounds of hallucinations.
Very nice. :)
http://naturesoundsfor.me/ is my favourite site for relaxing sounds. It has a wide range of sounds and mixing options. You can mix up to four sounds and change settings for each one.
The site even lets you download your mixes (.ogg). I've got four 10 minute tracks made on there. They loop perfectly in Winamp.
Okay this is not really specific to this month but does anyone else listen to music when they read? I sort of have to because I have tinnitus which is a ringing in the ears but it doesn't bother me though if there is some kind of music or sound in the background. So I listen to this a lot when I am reading it is "a tropical vacation for your ears!" http://www.hawaiianrainbow.com/
And there are a lot of sites online that play nature sounds in the background which is nice and relaxing too I really like this one: http://naturesoundsfor.me/
I've been playing rain sounds there with a little bit of thunder when I'm reading Frankenstein and it helps to set the mood!
I use this when I'm working. It's a build-your-own kind of thing with quite a few different options.
I don't know how lemurs or children giggling are relaxing, but to each his own.
[I confess that I sometimes like to align what I listen to with the current weather and season. Sunny summer day day gets beach+quiet seagulls+wind in the leaves (sea oats)+brown noise. Snowstormy winter day gets snow+fire crackling. Spring night gets spring peepers+crickets+rain.
I don't think this is the one you're thinking of, because I think I've seen the one you're looking for, and I can't find it now either. But here's a similar thing. Not as many choices, but it works.
You are my hero. Bad mood, at work, turned on your composition (saved it), instantly relaxed. Although now I just want to close my eyes rather than continue figuratively banging my head against IBM software.
Right now I'm eating a pile of Cheerios from my sternum. My breasts do a great job of keeping them from falling into the sheets. This makes me happy.
I love waking up under heavy blankets with a quadruple spoon happening---My boyfriend spooning me, me spooning my adult cat and my cat spooning my kitten. The combination of fur and skin and body heat and rising and falling rib cages is so lovely.
When a stranger holds the door open for me--bonus points if they look me in the eye and say you're welcome with a smile after I thank them.
http://naturesoundsfor.me/ <---also this
Notable sounds it has are: Fire, bird sounds, Darth Vader. It has much more though, most of them pleasant :)
It's a really great site/flash applet, you can set to oscillate the volume of certain sounds, you can set up to four different sounds...
Thanks for the heads up. I gave it some pear, but took it away after looking up their diet. I'm sure my dog wouldn't mind sharing a bit.. You think hamster food might hurt him?
I know he must be scared. I try my best to comfort him.
What do you do at work? If you are able to listen to soothing music or some other ambient noise, it may help ease your tension. I do not know many sites off hand but you can try this one. you can make your own
