You should definitely check out Taskrabbit.com, it seems like it's exactly what you're looking for. Here's a link for ya: http://www.taskrabbit.com/main/taskrabbits
^this sounds incredibly promotional but I swear I don't work for them :)
TaskRabbit has him beat. Offers a network to outsource your oddjobs to approved and rated "Taskers", waiting in line is one of the tasks available. Dunno about other places but it's huge in the Bay Area.
They wiill get a 1099 at the end of the year it seems:

So basicly a clone of taskrabbit.com.
How would you solve the chicken & egg problem? Its a typical marketplace scenario. People will not post jobs if there is nobody to take them and vice versa.
How would you earn revenue from this? Keep in mind that credit card and paypal take 3 - 5 % fee on transactions.
What prevents somebody to call the person directly after they had a positive experience after the job via your service?
How would you handle disputes? Somebody steals a watch when they are in their house? Have you thought about identity confirmation to prevent scams?
Students cant earn much without having to declare their income to the tax man. Why would a student create a paper trail of their earnings on a website en through online payment services?
Not getting back up is not trying...
If you're walking somewhere and you fall and you lay there on the ground, you're not trying to get back up. It means you've given up on life and are as good as dead.
Unemployed? Apply for jobs.
No jobs available? Do odd jobs. (Check out the website http://www.TaskRabbit.com or check the gigs section of the local CraigsList.) Help someone move a couch and a fridge, mow lawns...
Do SOMETHING other than bitch about why you don't have a job that's related to your degree.
Very few people are handed a job based on their degree. Hell, I got my degree after I was employed at my company.
You should check out TaskRabbit. You can always find people to help out with stuff like moving, cleaning, organizing, etc. And you can specify that you need someone with a truck.
I'm not sure if you've ever heard of it, and it may not be quite what you're looking for, but http://www.taskrabbit.com/ is a pretty good source for quick, usually 1 time, jobs. If you are just looking to make some quick easy money to keep you afloat while you search for a "real" job, then task rabbit may help you out. I personally have not used it, but from what i've heard it's a great service.
Look for experiments run by the psych and econ departments. The psych ones usually pay about 8 bucks an hour, but if you finish your study in 15 minutes you still get paid the 8 bucks.
Otherwise try taskrabbit.com. A site dedicated to odd jobs.
Seems pretty cool, though he's got some stiff (and well funded) competition with TaskRabbit.
Speaking as a consumer, TaskRabbit has background checks and reviews on their workers, which is a huge benefit. I see that NeedTo does as well, but it took some digging to find that.
Speaking as a fellow small business owner, though, I'll give his site a try.
I recently found out about this:
Haven't used it but it seems like an awesome resource, great for people needing to get stuff done and willing to pay someone else to do it and for trustworthy folks who have the time, are willing to do it and get paid.
Come cross post this to SFbayjobs... regardless of where you live, you can make a killing there!
Also, try a TaskRabbit. They're growing like weeds, too.
Come visit and check out your "Transcriptionist" flair!

TaskRabbit - You can register and get verified then do small odd jobs around town for cash.
Donating plasma is always a popular response.
Yeah, real acting, that's why he says "its that f**kin easy!" at the end, and the script is ridiculous. Come on.
Sidenote: a program has already existed for this for a while. It's a crowdsourcing program named TaskRabbit.
Task Rabbit is pretty useful if you want to do random odd jobs while looking for more permanent work. And the site is very phone-browser friendly. Try http://m.taskrabbit.com
I literally have a collection of failed, but otherwise great, ideas. I plan to build a Wall of Shame in my honor at some point in my life. Like this AR-15 accessory that I was halfway through building when I discovered this damn thing. Or the Task Rabbit service, I was going to call it "Mission Runners." I've got another one in development now and I'll be dammed if I tell anyone!
Glad you like the shirts, I've bought a few myself.

Never tried it, but seems like a good way to get a ride to/from.
Also if you live or can get to union station you can take the fly-away bus to lax
I sell stuff on ebay. Usually buy things off ebay low and sell high- only useful if you are really heavy into a certain hobby (mines Warhammer). Also, try (http://www.taskrabbit.com) if you live in a big city it connects people who need some spare work done to short term workers. Haven't tried it myself though.
If you are more of a physically fit type, you can try going around collecting scrap metal- selling it to junkyards. Copper aluminum and steel fetch a great price but some shady folks steal that stuff.
You could try taskrabbit. I describe it to others as "a la carte concierge service." You submit a job description and people who've been vetted, background-checked, reviewed etc. submit bids for their time and effort. You choose which one you want (if any at all). Make sure you specify that you'd like someone who has a van.
Full disclosure, I do jobs for them sometimes and that link above is a referral code. Good news is that it'll give you $10 off your first task.
Good luck with the hunt. If you are currently out of work, companies want to see that you are doing something to fill the time and generate short term income. Like others said, retail is showing an initiative.
Also, post your info to Task Rabbit. There are a lot of smaller tech jobs (for the non-tech) out there. Stuff like duplicating Excel files, typing up Word docs, setting up computers, etc.
I've been very happy with CrystalClean. Good people. It was cheaper than my other reputable quotes. Something like $25 per person-hour.
If you just want cheap, you can solicit bids at TaskRabbit
I was just thinking about spreading the good word about TaskRabbit – they're having an invite-only hiring event, and I'm employed with them, so if we've actually made contact via the SFRedditors Google group, I wouldn't mind taking along a known Redditor as my +1 (you don't have to put out, don't worry!).
Great way to get into San Francisco, sweat a little bit, while never having the repurcusions of a longterm contract. Just a consideration … I applied via a mutual friend of TR, so BoL!
