I'd recommend Virtual CloneDrive. https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html (it's free)
I've switched from damon tools a while back to one called WinCDEmu, but it had issues with dismounting the disk until I restarted the computer. I switched to virtual clone drive because it's similar to damon tools in some of it's functionality (where there's an systray icon and you rightclick to mount/dismount), but you can also double-click the iso files to mount them.
VirtualCloneDrive from Elaborate Bytes...

... or if you use Windows 8.x/10 the ISO mounting feature is built-in.
If your only purpose is to mount ISOs and not the fancier stuff that Daemon Tools offers, I've had good experiences with Virtual Clone Drive. It's simple but it gets the job done.
Right, I've got the instructions for the EZ installer, looks like it wants to create the USB image for you. So follow these steps:
1) find a working computer with an optical disk drive and a usb port
2) insert your windows 7 dvd
3) insert your USB stick
4) launch EZ Installer, choose Windows 7 OS disc to USB Storage Device
5) select source disk (windows 7)
6) select USB device and click next
7) click ok to finish. This will have created the USB stick you can boot from.
If you don't have an ODD, you can use Virtual Clone Drive to mount the iso that you have as a fake DVD drive.
[Edit] To be clear, this doesn't need rufus.
You can but recommend you do this instead.
Download iso instead of creating usb stick
Install virtual clone drive
https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html
Use vcd to mount iso as a drive, and run setup.exe
This is identical to upgrading from a usb - the upgrade now method is a bit flakey, and usb/iso method is more reliable generally.
Of course, upgrades from windows 7 do not always go as smooth as desired, getting niggling issues initially. A clean install sometimes needed later but the objective today is to get upgraded so you get your digital licence. You can sort out a clean install after the deadline.
Back up usb data as well in case you have to create a usb installation drive.
first: send me the virus total link of the file.
yes, the program is normally safe. however, I prefer to use Virtual CloneDrive (proprietary, freeware).

cheers!
I don't think your NAS can run MakeMKV, but you can run it on your computer and tell it to save the resulting file to the NAS.
When I had a Windows machine, I used Virtual Clone Drive for virtual drive. Not sure of your OS, but put a link just in case. You don't need a VM
I have been using Virtual Clone Drive for years now. It is free, light weight, offers context menu mounting for all common image formats including bin/cue. You can give that a whirl.
Don't burn to disk, just use a tool to mount the image as a disk. I use https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html
You will need to use a 'no cd patch' or get a patched version of the game from somewhere to avoid the message.
Install this program, Virutal Clone Drive: https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html
Its free, and creates a virtual CD/DVD drive on your PC that you can mount ISOs in. Its basically just like putting a disc in a drive, but your putting a virtual disc (ISO) in a virtual drive.
It sucks that the main mounting software are bundled with crap, like even Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools. Those 2 would support this one .iso file correctly, while none of the other solutions would work, but having to deal with the installer was a pain.
Nowadays I use Virtual CloneDrive. https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html It just installs the program, no PUPs. It isn't open source though, like WinCDEmu, but it is still being developed. The last update for WinCDEmu was 4 years ago.
If Win10 native mounting doesn't work for you, you can use third party software like Virtual Clonedrive or daemon tools.
Torrent the ISOs or use this google drive link.
After you download and install EQ, do not run it. Follow the guide I linked above closely.
Try updating drivers for every device listed in device manager, not just devices missing drivers. Besides just running the driver installers, you can have XP search through the driver files for compatible drivers:
If you're using web browsing speed to gauge performance, keep in mind that both browsers and the web itself are being developed with more powerful computers in mind. Browsing the web requires a lot more computing power than it used to.
Both SP2 and SP3 slow down XP significantly, especially on older laptops. It may even be partially intentional imo (especially in the case of SP3).
Make sure the laptop's heat exhaust vents aren't obstructed by objects or dust, and make sure the fans are still working.
Okay so it looks like 7zip isn't working. You could try using virtual clone drive: https://www.elby.ch/en/products/vcd.html to mount (load) the file in a virtual disc drive. Then you should be able to access the files and copy them from there to your hard drive.
If you want a quick video for how to use virtual clone drive check this out: https://youtu.be/A3xwkHy538M skip ahead to about 1 minute.
> Personally I use Virtual Clone Drive as a "virtual optical drive" and you can mount disk images with a double click once you have it set up properly. And it's free!
Here's what you see on the right click context menu. I have my virtual drive set up as Z: and my physical drive as A: and when I want to unmount from the virtual drive I just navigate to the drive and "eject". http://imgur.com/WXNINTD
I've also got Daemontools installed but it's a bit annoying sometimes.
What kind of problem do you have with disk images? ISO or other formats?
Personally I use Virtual Clone Drive as a "virtual optical drive" and you can mount disk images with a double click once you have it set up properly. And it's free!
elby clone drive my boi. install it, right click the image file, and click mount to: and then it will have a drive letter next to it. auto run works, it acts exactly like a physical disk.
OK, so MSI have this video, which says they have a Windows 7 Smart Tool that can create your USB stick from a Windows 7 disk (found here). I've not used it, so I don't know if it can use an ISO rather than an actual disk, but you can always mount the iso using Virtual Clone Drive and point the Windows 7 Smart Tool at that.
It means that you won't have to use Rufus to create your bootable USB, the Windows 7 Smart Tool will do that, so sorry for the effort you've already put in... (some manufacturers tools do exactly that).
my 2 cents: don't use daemon tools. don't know if it's still the case, but they used to bundle in adware and pups (google "daemon tools adware" for a glimpse). i'd suggest virtual clonedrive instead. for some reason almost every iso mounting program installs search engine redirects, adware, crapware, PUPs, and sometimes even malware if you don't explicitly uncheck them from being installed, which is generally a hidden checkbox in the installer. even then, they sometimes install them anyway. 2. additionally, on windows 8.1 and up (I believe) iso mounting is built in.
tldr: use vcd instead of daemon tools, make sure to always look through "advanced" or "custom" install settings of any program you download to make sure they aren't bundling adware.
I'm sorry that what they said hurt you so much. *Internet hugs*
On a different note, have you tried Virtual CloneDrive by ElaborateBytes? I've used it a lot for disk images and it works well on Windows 7 and 10.
