I think Garamond is classy. McSweenys uses it.
My grandpa's business card was set in Copperplate Gothic and it looks super classy. You wouldn't believe me if I told you that at the time his phone number was 48.
If you find a font you like there is a website that will take your image and tell you what font it is and I've had a 100% hit rate, even with some older fonts from real printing presses. http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Yes WhatTheFont and Identifont are two ones. They work okay. Also note the sidebar of this subreddit where it says "For font queries..."
If you're asking do I recognise it, the answer is no. The only font I really recognise on sight is Comic Sans.
If you're asking for help discovering what font it is, try uploading the image to WhatTheaFont
If you cannot find help here, I suggest:
The typography subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/typography
Whatfontis, image font recognition (crop, of course): http://www.whatfontis.com/
One more image recognition site: http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
probably
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/p22/underground-basic/thin-small-caps/
or
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/p22/underground-basic/thin/
for future reference, take a screenshot and hit up: http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Here are the WTF results.
Looks like whatever the font is, it's been customized through whatever image editing program they used.
It appears to be close to 'Armada Bold' with some coloring effects. Can't find an exact match.
You could try
http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
but would have to edit the picture first (character by character, I take it).
has a similar feature but needs you to log in.
Have you checked what the font? You'll have to isolate some text and straiten it, but if it can't find the exact font it should at least give you something close.
Using the side provided by phormality, these are my results
Doesn't seem to be anything relevant, although Chato Band Space-Bold looks nice.
Wikipedia is kind of vague:
"The first incarnation of the logo, introduced in 1990, used a generic font and was used until late 1993, when it was redesigned with a white box in a black rectangle instead of a white bar between black bars. This continued until 1994, when the white bar between black bars design was mixed with the second iteration and "ADVISORY" started using a modified font.
It does, as JonnyJFunk said, point to Helvetica Ultra Compressed.
There's a webservice called WhatTheFont where you can upload a sample to find matching fonts. If your sample is skewed (photographed instead of scanned, or partly redrawn) or has inverted colours, it helps to fix that first with Photoshop/GIMP/whatever.
You could always check with What the Font, though the law of less-effort-is-more says to just xerox it to get an unwrinkled sheet without going through the effort to retype.
What the font says that Euro Sans is the closest match and I have this font. I will try to remember to make it as soon as I get home.
Preferred resolution?
EDIT: Apparently whatthefont links are temporary. My bad.
First time I get to use WhatTheFont. It says this is a variation of Copperplate Gothic.
From What The Font (link is found in the sidebar to the right of this subreddit), the closest match I determined was Player Condensed.
I used whatthefont.com and came up with either Deepdene BQ Regular or
Deepdene BQ Reg OSF.
FontForge.
But it’s a lot more work than one might think.
And, depending on the origin of the glyphs you’re working with, what you’re trying to do might be really unethical or illegal.
Try making an image of all the glyphs and running them through WhatTheFont.
haha your going to hate me with all these comments but if I don't ask I wont know.
How did you get the correct font? Is that from a website like "whatthefont.com". I can't get it to identify the one used.
cheers
Looks like this
I noticed some characters don't exactly match, but it is very close.
It looks very close to Caslon Black, but if you look at the capital A the tops are a bit different. Have you tried whatthefont?
edit: Here are your results from whatthefont
It looks like Rocky Comp Black is pretty close, it just looks like the Cosmos font is a little bit looser. Id say either Caslon Black or Rocky Comp Black are two solid choice alternatives
This is what whatthefont came up with.
Find the font, use the same color scheme then Photoshop/ GIMP away. If it isn't a font, then it'll be tougher.
If the URL doesn't work, there are some font-recognition champions over in r/design and r/fonts.
Seems like the closest I could match for you was "PT Parangon 510 ExtraCond ExtraBold" Just seems like a modified version or at least adding serifs to it can get you pretty close.
Check out the results here.. http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/results?ch%5B0%5D=t&ch%5B1%5D=h&ch%5B2%5D=e&ch%5B3%5D=w&ch%5B4%5D=&wtfserver=aws_wtf1&id=000120d64f2a9bb90003333b00000455&glyphcount=5&imageid=0&x=58&y=56
While not an exact match, it's very similar to Dragon TS-Medium. As in, most of the characters actually are identical. It looks like someone took this font and modified it in several places.
Hope that helped!
It's really close to Grease, but i'm still trying to find one without all the ornamentation.
I tried searching through What the Font but it didn't seem to read through all the graphic design elements.
Sorry.
It is probably some modified version of another font, but What the Font gives some hints.
You could try using what the font
I tried it, didn't find a match
At first I thought you were referring to reddit's own Yo Dawg Bold.. but then you said it was really nice.
Similar to identifont is whatthefont, but you need a picture to use both, unfortunately.
Any more ideas about color/extra graphics/industry the logo was for, etc?
Try these sites: (They let you upload a picture of the font to identify and tries to identify it or the closest match)
If all that is moot, try [/r/tipofmytongue](/r/tipofmytongue).
I searched on WhatTheFont but that was not really convincing...
Then I've searched what fonts are used on Windows 8 Metro, found this. So the font used for the BSOD seems to be Segoe.
Hmm I'd say yes and no. I'd say the most difficult part of doing something like this is the background. If it gets too messy when you're trying to remove the text, it will ruin your entire project before you even start.
Font finding can be difficult. The tools I use are:
1) WhatTheFont.com It has a snazzy little engine that can guess at the font you're looking at. If that fails, you can post the piece in question on their forums.
2) dafont.com This site has a lot of great free fonts to use, and you can benefit greatly from even scrolling through similar genres of fonts.
3) Google, of course Sometimes, I get really lucky and someone has had the same question answered on a forum. Then I check and see if dafont.com has the font, download, and go to town!
I hope this helps. :D
I have no idea... But WhatTheFont came pretty close
Closes one I found was: http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/efscangraphic/europa-grotesk-sb/med-con/
Not quite but similar one:
I would take it into photoshop boost the contrast than use either of these sites to identify it... what the font or what font is
This might get you close.
Sorry mate couldn't find the exact font. I did however go onto WhatTheFont and upload this picture. Got a few results but not the exact font.
Hope someone else can, it's a nice font.
> Is it possible to get a sticker, scan it, photoshop it, then print it in sticker form and make it look convincing?
Sure... if someone printed something, you can print it too. Unless it's currency or something crazy, whatever materials and technology they used are available over the counter. However unless it's a really cheap parking pass, it might be hard to create a believable forgery with just an inkjet printer and some sticker pages.
> I would have to change some numbers around, how would I make sure the "font" is the same?
Identify the original font and use that. Site's like this can help.
I went a step further, but it doesn't look like any of them match perfectly.
Here! I'd say the closest would be Compact Bold Italic, with a different A and R.
My advice is to take a screenshot and then upload the file here:
This has been the most reliable tool I've found for identifying fonts.
(Cmd+Shift+4 for draggable size screen shot saved to desktop if you didn't know)
you can try WhatTheFont. if that won't work (which it might not do 'cos it's not a very clear image), you can always use illustrator to re-create the letters based on the image
My bets are on the DINcond/DINpro sets.
