This can be achieved on pretty much any Android device by rooting and installing this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot . It overlays the boot log of the device over the default animation as it is written supposedly.
It's not default with the phone, it's this app. It requires rooting your phone to be able to use it - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android)
It essentially is just showing you a log of what your phones Operating System is doing as its booting up: doing checks, initializing hardware, starting processes, etc.
All of these things happen in the background of any phone / computer when you boot up normally, it's just this app allows you to see what is going on (not like you can really read it though as everything happens very quickly)
I missed command line bootup screens so I found an app that does that for Android (root only), it changes your boot logo to a live view of the logcat like when you boot up a Linux distro:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en
I put this app on all my phones, it replaces the Android booting logo with a live logcat to make it look like a Linux console on boot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en_US&gl=US
One day I cracked my screen and took it in to get it replaced, screen repair man didn't know I had that installed. Freaked him out, he thought he had broken my phone somehow.
I have been told by someone pretty intelligent that the Kernel will basically need to be compiled to enable the console framebuffer option and maybe remove references to the boot animations etc.
There's an app though by chainfire, that scrolls the dmesg log on your screen during bootup, paid version of that app can show logcat while booting too. It uses an executable for the bootanimation or something... I have not tested it.... give it a try.

There was a google security update for android and the latest version of oxygenOS includes it. We'll just have to w8 for a new version of suhide or install the previous version of oxygenOS or go to a CM rom.
EDIT: If your phone is rooted you can download liveboot and then see what error popsup when you try instaling suhide and then by posting your log file to the suhide developer you can help him find a fix faster
These are really more questions for an Android subreddit.
1: LiveBoot is a boot animation that displays the boot log. You can do it with adb as well.
2: That is why bootloaders are often locked.
3: Supposedly security.
I used to use the XDA "BIOS" bootscreen on my N5 & used ChainFire's LiveBoot on my 6P for a while as it's customisable and looks pretty cool. I recently wiped my phone and obviously this reset it to stock, I completely forgot I hadn't reinstalled it.
on a fresh stock rom (bare cee) it takes like 5 seconds. On aosp its about a minute. With xposed framework installed it can be closer to 5
if you're interested in what's going on when you boot check out chainfires liveboot app on the play store, it turns your boot animation into a live logcat output

Please note, set it up like this is only possible with root.
I install this every once in a while when I format my phone to try a different ROM or want to have a fresh install.
I have been using this for years, it's very cool being able to observe things that are actually happening rather than looking at a dull boot animation.
Try live boot. I just think it is cool.

It's an app called liveBoot from chainfire runs on almost any phone with root. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
mmmh.. I'm into the boot animation since 20 minutes ago, I suppose something went wrong.
Any suggestions?
P.S. I hate boot animations, I would prefer a "this is what I'm doing" list. Should have installed LiveBoot
Shit's all red because there are basically 3 modes to CF Lumen:
If you're rooted, you may as well check out LiveBoot by the same dev. Nothing to do with this, and not even useful, but adds a cool nerdy start-up text animation every time you turn your phone on :)
I change every boot animation to Chainfire's Liveboot:
EDIT: one without the boot animation layered underneath, you can choose if you want to layer the boot animation, if you want just logcat or just dmesg or both split screen or both line-by-line (like in this video), in landscape or portrait: https://youtu.be/pqZSd_G4iaM?t=9s
https://youtu.be/N0tqzVWxpJk?t=17s
It makes me feel like a special nerd. And it's a real logcat+dmesg, just like your Windows 95 BIOS+DOS command line boot screen, not a fake recorded animation. So you can actually see if your system is taking an extra 2 minutes to boot because of one installed app, for example.
But then, I'm not the kind of guy that ever cared about aesthetics in my OS customization. I want information. Lots and lots of nerdy information.
what app? I want that.
edit: found it!
Here's a link to the app (obviously requires root)
EDIT: Before anyone asks, here's a download link for the wallpaper I'm using and the app I'm using to set it as the wallpaper. I ran the video through Handbrake to rotate it first.
Well then boy have I got good news for you:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en
I've installed this on every phone I've owned since my Atrix
You want to install "LiveBoot".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
Yes.
This is a thing that has existed for many years.
Almost, I'm pretty sure it's Liveboot by Chainfire.
At the least it's the one on the YotS tracklist video
This is EXACTLY what happened to mine too 10 days ago. Then the wifi got stuck on "activating". This is so strange. We are definetly not the only ones, there are XDA threads popping up with those issues. You could try the last post on this site, this helped some people. Others tried "reflowing" (baking) their mainboard, but thats not for me (for now at least).
I would be interested in the output of your dmesg when booting your nexus, but you need to root your phone first.
My Wifi-Chip apparently is kill, it can not power on anymore. this was my output..
I think those are breaking points, perfectly timed to get a new phone. Call me crazy or conspiracy-theorist :)
That's the LiveBoot app from Chainfire. You need to be rooted:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
It is this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=de) from the Play Store. But you need to have your device rooted.
You need this app and a rooted phone, not sure how easy it is to root a Pixel 2
Is that Live Boot?
Yeah, I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en LiveBoot, which shows LogCat as it's booting and I'd be able to tell if it's bootlooping.
Liveboot does not work using my built in root.
Liveboot does not work using my built in root.
Not without root. If you root the device, you can install Chainfire's LiveBoot.
A rooted phone, and this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
Might as well go all out
Not a loading animation, but it shows you console output... Basically verbose-boot https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot&hl=en
Not wired at all
Even Android root have this app to show codes when phone booting up.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.liveboot
