For sure let it grow. My cheeks look very similar to yours. Im at roughly 3 months now and its starting to fill in somewhat decently. my facial hair seems to grow slowly though. I had half-assedly attempted beards in the past bu gave up because of the sparse cheek growth, but one day my wife bought some collagen powder to mix with her coffee in the morning, its good for joints and stuff so I started using it too, but the weird thing is that my facial hair started growing more than it ever has in my life. im not sure if its just a coincidence, but it may be something to look into. if you care this is the stuff i use. I put a little less than a full scoop in my coffee every morning ( it is tasteless, but doesnt dissolve in cold drinks well) Collagen Peptides Powder | Hydrolyzed for Better Collagen Absorption | Non-GMO Verified, Certified Keto Friendly and Gluten Free - Unflavored
Looks good. Saw an ad for a beard iron thing. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TBBG2F2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Looks like it works well, especially for making the hipster stach.
I mean yeah it's kinda normal, It all depends on the person
The only time you should really be kinda worried is if you start to notice that your beard is thin.
If you are worried try taking some Biotin
This is what I use,

Spend a bit of cash on a shaper from Amazon. I have this one but you can find them cheaper. Square out your cheeks and keep growing.
my pleasure.
I invite you to check out the HiLée Amazon page for a variety of Organic, natural and cruelty-free options for the bearded man.
nice full beard. I recommend using a beard oil regularly, if you don't already.
It makes a huge difference when grooming and making the beard look soft and neat. It prevents split ends, dandruff, and irritation. The skin under the beard usually gets ignored, but it also needs to be hydrated.
Good luck :)

This is what I use after the shower along with oil and a good boar’s hair brush.

I do use Beard specific products and try to be careful as to what I use. Part of the problem (with most things online) is finding good info and not seller gimmicks. Regardless, I have two Oils I alternate between. One is a local farmer's market product of natural products, and the other is from Dollar Beard Club. Current beard shampoo and conditioner I'm trying out are from Viking Revolution (yes, I partially went for it cause the name).

When drying, I do aim for a little damp, but my hair retains water quite well and it can be hard to get it dry enough without totally drying it. I also do try to "pat" it dry or light clumping, but again...
I don't fuck with beard oil or beard balm or any of that shit because I can't stand the greasy feeling and underlying oil smell that they all have. Just use these together and you'll be good, leave the conditioner in for ~ 5 min in the shower and wash out.

There’s a ton of beard straighteners like the one below on Amazon. I’ve had this one on my list for a while because I had a similar thought. But I haven’t pulled the trigger. Mine’s not as curly as yours I’d guess.

razor gives you a clean shave, but can irritate your skin. I prefer something like the
one blade which gives you a close shave, but does not irritate the skin nearly as much, leaves some short stubble which can look nice.
Good luck to you! Be sure to share anything promising that you find. Closest I found so far was https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003S4XC2I/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm going to try it and see but still not quite as small as I would like...
Trimming is somewhat of a "zen" exercise, i.e. find the golden mean in terms of pressure, not too much nor too little. To help you do that, I highly recommend you use a trimmer with guards (I have this one and it's fantastic: Phillips Norelco Multigroomer )
Also, check out YouTube, lots of videos demonstrating how to maintain beards/stubble of all lengths.
Try a dyed mustache wax. Clubman has a pretty good one.

Another thing you can do is grow it out longer and brush the darker hair in to the lighter hair.
So I am from Europe, so not sure this Amazon link will work for you, but this is the one I have. And it's glorious.
I actually did use a guide for it and a double edged razor. This one. What is awkward about it? Can you like draw in my pic what the line should look like lol
I use this one and I’ve been pleased with it.

Hey! Thanks for responding. When you say the Phillips Trimmer, what do you mean? Do you mean this? Or are you talking about one in particular?
Product link, it says its a "safety" razor, so not a straight razor.
Hey bro, I have a similar beard like yours including the weird wavy kink right under my chin. I fixed my beard mainly by just keeping it fairly neat and trimmed, especially on the neck, but, my brother I have a secret weapon: https://www.amazon.com/Beard-brush-straightener-men-straightening-comb/dp/B07Q5C9645
This thing goes to 450 degrees and straightens the fuck out of my curly ass beard hair. Some beard oil and 5 minutes of brushing and my beard is straight and neat. It honestly works wonders. I don't travel anywhere without it anymore. There are cheaper versions as well that I started with before upgrading which also worked well so don't feel like you gotta splurge on the higher end brushes.
Let me list you the main items you need.
Beard Straightener for Men, 2 in 1 for Beard & Hair- Anti-Scalding, Ionic Technology, 3 Temperature Settings - Patented Design, Cutting Edge Beard Straightener Comb - Wild Willies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087JN9DBX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9718Q4N5C5KN00V10ZVG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
A good beard wash and softener, I like cremo brand.
Boar bristle brush
A good beard oil, I like Duke Cannon you can get it a target it’s not too greasy and smells great
Beard balm, I also like Duke cannon brand it has beeswax in it so it keeps thick coarse facial hair styled after straightening.
If you have any other questions lmk but that’s how I got mine to not look like face pubes.
I’m gonna recommend what I do to most everyone in here: a beard straightener. Once you have it straight you can shape it how you like and it keeps the fly always tamed. Also you need a good wash oil and balm. I like Duke cannon brand from target looks like your hair is coarse and it’s it best brand I’ve found to moisturize and hold a style. I’ll link the straightener it’s 30 bucks and makes a huge world of difference. For the patchiness try minoxidil on your face it seems to help alot of dudes on here and there’s also a minox beard sub.

Get a beard straightener it’s the only wait I can manage mine it’s so coarse and wirey. Once you straighten it you can actually get shaping it.

Definitely don’t shave it get this and it’ll change your whole beard
I'm familiar with wild Willie's they are pretty popular. Have you tried a better beard comb or even a beard straightener? If you haven't you could see if that helps with the tangles. You could also try a trim to fix any split ends or curls at the end you don't want.

Also for the dryness because you have a good amount of growth, your beard might need to be oiled maybe even twice per day. Morning and maybe night. Using the oil at night will help lock in more moisture. Also, maybe try lowering the temperature of your water only when washing your beard. Super hot water can make the hair dry out.
I’ve got a bore bristle but the Viking comb is wood. Not trying to endorse anything but this is what I have for a nice price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W9MZYFB/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_i_PZZNX215G4BYWZNNR59V

I've been wearing gaiters with replaceable filters to avoid beard crease. These ones have been great. They haven't been too hot for the summer and actually keep my flyaway hairs in line when I take them off.
Thanks bro, just wish I had more coverage like you. You'll do great. Ya I noticed that side grew backward! Give it another week or two and start brushing it man. The link is for the kit I recently bought again.. it's a great starter pack for cheap. beard kit
Start using an exfoliating daily wash, anything with SA (salicylic acid) in it. It will exfoliate the skin in which to prevent ingrown hairs. Cerave SA Wash

Get a beard straightener on amazon it’ll make it look a lot better. It’s not think it’s just just curly mine is the same but when it’s straightened it fixes that up.

Get yourself a beard straightener on amazon. If you’ve got crazy coarse thick facial hair like I do it’s the only way to get it straight. I got a good one for around 30 you need one that has teeth on the comb pretty close together so you can get those pain in the ass ones tamed. Also I had to get one that heats hotter than most (500F) since mine is so thick. That and a good balm/wax. I like grave before shave tames my beard without leaving it greasy and it smells dope.

No worries, we all learn something every day!
The heated brush is a specific kind of product, not unlike a straightening irons for hair.
This is just an example, I'm not recommending this specific brush, I don't own one.
I'd try the other methods befor buying a heated brush tho.
Yeah it will fill in, looks good. I would say cleaning up the neck a bit would help the look of it. Dont go to high, but especially on the sides it will make your jawline look stronger and the beard will take a better shape. Since you said the neck was itching, beard oil could be a good investment, it will help hydrate the skin underneath the beard, it also smells nice (Beard Oil)
Didn’t know that stuff like that existed.
You mean something like this, right? I was going to order some stuff trough amazon later on today, so I will just add it to the basket. Thank you for the tip. Probably cheaper than actually going to the barber, which I really wanted to avoid. Thank you 🙏
I have the same issue. Might be you sleeping on one side of your face. Try derma rolling
Nice! Consistent use of a beard brush is golden.
By the way, if you're getting tangles, I'd recommend getting a wooden (non-static) comb with some depth, like this to or this get to them. Heck, I feel it's a good way to straighten the "interior" of the beard while letting the brush handle the "exterior".
Regardless, you've got a good fkn beard!
ok so I had never been able to grow a beard. After a few failed attempts that resulted in shaving because of super sparse cheeks (even after about 3 months) I decided that it wasnt in the cards for me and just did stubble for a number of years. One day I started taking collagen powder for joint health and other non-beard related benefits. I quickly realized that my facial hair was growing better than it ever had. Im not sure if it was a coincidence or what but I decided to keep with it. I also made some bad mistakes cutting my neck line... Im committed to letting it go for at least a year to see what I can really do, but the spots under my jaw by the ears have me concerned. Im hoping that once it does start to grow longer those spots wont make the beard look super scraggly. should I be concerned?
Beard looks great so far. Only thing I see offhand is it looks like you may be brushing too hard. The sides curve inwards which can happen if you're following your jawline too much.
A Chicago Comb like this could be a big help in adding some volume back to the sides and give the beard an even better shape.
Other than that, just keep going!
I'm in the same boat as you. I envy the men with beards that grow in straight or just wavy and don't have random wiry hairs that pop out. Besides light trimming with scissors of the very into hairs, I use a heavier beard balm/wax that helps to tame it. Not perfectly, but it helps: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IQY5F9I
Change up your soaps. Our skins react to different stuff. Try to use this soap called African black soap by Shea moisture. I tried 10 different ones and then found that and it’s helped a lot. Also for ingrowns use this once ever other day https://www.amazon.com/Attendant-Ingrown-Eliminating-Between-Sessions/dp/B000Z65BDU
It helps out big time. Lay off the moisturizers for 2 weeks and switch up your shampoo as well as it will rinse off your head and can cause breakouts on your neck and beard if it has an ingredient you’re sensitive too. But don’t pick at it, I’ve done that and it can leave patches and scaring.
Well minox can be found on Amazon for not too much here(this is the foam version which I strongly recommend and science backs this up as well): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012BNVE8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_6NbRFbG6V0J17
You probably could find minox at larger big box stores as well if you look around..
Do NOT get the one blade. I loved it the first few times I used it, but the blades wear quickly and start to pull hair. It’s so frustrating. I replaced my Panasonic rechargeable one that was 5 years old with the one blade and I regret my decision every time I use it. I looked it up on amazon and the price for my old trimmer has dropped by roughly 50% since I originally bought it, and I just bought a new one, so thanks for that. 👍🏻
Hey! don't give up. growing that 12 month old beard must've been a huge challenge.
Have you tried brushing it out using a bristle brush? it helps get the hair stands to get used to growing "long" rather than to the sides.
There are many products to help, you don't need them ALL but maybe try using the beard shampoo or oil to soften it, brush it out and then comb it with a little beeswax beard balm.
doing those things might help you tame the face beast a little

patience for sure pays off. Try giving it shape by shaving your cheeks and neck. It makes it look neater when it's clean shaven.

Look, growing a beard is a process. You need to maintain it and take care of it. If you want to grow a more dense beard, you have to shave, grow it for 2 weeks, then shave again and repeat for a few months. While you do this, you should use a natural beard oil. There are many in the market, choose something that is not too cheap since the cheap ones come with added ingredients such as silicone which ends up clogging your skin. A natural, high quality beard oil will be fast absorbing, and it will clear your skin of sebum, opens up pores, and keeps skin hydrated without making it greasy.
Beard hair is similar to head hair in the way that it needs conditioning and nourishment. You can even get dandruff on your beard. Get on a beard grooming routine that included washing your beard using a beard shampoo, then while your skin is still damp but mostly dry, apply the oil using a bristle brush using a massaging circular motion. the massage stimulates hair follicles. it doesn't guarantee growth all of a sudden, but it helps and it feels great.
Don't worry too much about the patches because those will be filled in as the hair around it grows. Comb it out and eventually when your beard is longer use a beard balm to comb out the hairs. Also, since hair grows in cycles, maybe there is hair follicles on that patch that haven't been stimulated yet.
I recommend you check out our Amazon page for beard grooming products. We offer a variety of kits for the beginner and experience bearded man. Everything is made with natural ingredients and cruelty free.
My pleasure and Good luck.
btw check our Amazon page HiLée, we offer many natural products for men's beard grooming.
nah dude, just let it grow and groom it often. combing it will train the hairs to stay. if you use a beard balm, it will keep the hairs together and look styled all day.
I invite you to check our Amazon page HiLée, we offer many natural products for men's beard grooming.
Nice beard. It looks like you have a very rough and wiry texture. I recommend you use some beard softening shampoo, beard oil and comb it often. This way as you grow it longer, it will be nice and healthy. Otherwise, you'll have hair strands pointing at all directions.
I invite you to check out the HiLée Amazon page for a variety of Organic, natural and cruelty-free options for the bearded man.
Keep it growing. You have potential, can't decide until you at least see the 6-week mark.
I suggest you start using a natural beard oil if you haven't already. It helps moisturize, prevent split ends, reduces irritation, cleanses your pores. It is basically the one product every man with a beard should have.
good luck

This trimmer is $20 off Amazon. Cordless, cheap, lots of attachments, it just works. There are more expensive options out there but the 3mm option is great for a heavy stubble/ light beard. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-Groomer-MG3750-50/dp/B01MSHQ5IQ
I use similar scissors to amazon link to trim the bottom edge of the moustache every two weeks to cover some but not all my upper lip. That’s shorter than this pic. Length looks good in this pic. Length is up to you. If it’s cut a bit short it will grow out soon. I suggest take weekly pics and then compare shorter VS longer. That’s how I decided on the shorter beard look. And use scissors to trim each moustache extension to match.

Is your beard curly? It might be growing back into your face causing irritation. I suggest both combing and brushing. My routine is to: comb immediately after getting out of the shower; then oil; add beard balm / butter (if desired); then brush to style. Before bed I: comb; butter; brush. When I have experienced irritation,Cremo Beard Cream, Medicated Beard Formula, 2 oz has done the trick for me.
Good luck.
Yes, give it a try, it's really amazing stuff. KSM-66 is the ultra potent strain of ashwagandha that has a lot more of the withanolides, which is the active ingredient. Try it and I guarantee you'll like it. It's a good all around men's health supplement beyond beard growth. Try this one https://www.amazon.com/Swanson-Ultimate-Ashwagandha-Ksm-66-Caps/dp/B00HA95WMA You would take 2 at a time as a serving.
Yes! I have used it and I'm using it constantly.
Beard Roller = Derma Roller = Microneedle Roller. All of them are one and the same thing, but brands use different names for marketing purposes depending on their target audience.
As I'm saying I have my derma roller in my skincare routine. It's a must from my point of view! BUT not to use it daily!
I bought mine from Amazon from the brand MATKAS ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZMBB37 ) since summer 2018. I changed it every 3-4 months. I find it to be the best on the market.
I sterilize it with alcohol before using it. I let the alcohol on it for a few minutes to dry and I start using it after that. I apply one of my serums or a moisturizer after the derma roller. It really goes deeper into the skin.
It was scary when I first time uses it and it irritated my skin because it was not used to this kind of treatment before. But I got used it and now results are great. It takes time to see results!!! Most of the people want everything overnight. Nothing good comes overnight!
I have contacted the brand recently through Amazon to see if they have replacement heads because I'm tired to change it entirely every 3-4 months and they told me they currently have a new derma roller in development with a replacement head that will be launched in upcoming months (they haven't specified any date - so I don't know exactly when). They also want to get rid of the most plastic used in manufacturing it.
From what I see on Amazon is right now $12.90. When I bought it in 2018 it was $20. Most probably they want to get rid of their current inventory to give space to the new one.
From my experience, many derma rollers sold have fake needles! You should be concerned about which one you are buying.
I hope my answer will help you.
I've got a beard a cheapo beard oil/balm, off Amazon and also this beard set that came with a brush, mini scissors that suck and a beard comb. The brush is great, the other 2 items I could do with out.
I've got somewhat sensitive skin and the products seem to be fine. I believe the brand is "Grow a beard"
Edit: Found it. They have a kit with everything I got for only $16 (minus the shitty little scissors). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NB10SWS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_ReOVEb5Q512DC
I use the straightener below and it is phenomenal.
I also use the hair dryer with attachment below. It is even better. Especially if you oil with it.
The attachment is the key.
Tame’s Beard Straightener EDIT: Just saw that this is no longer available on Amazon. Sorry! It’s good, but I primarily use it for touch up now. The hair dryer is my main.
Andi’s Hair Dryer - This is the shit.
You never know unless you try. You need to start stimulating your hair follicles to promote growth by applying oil and brushing gently. Every morning and every night: Wet you’re beard with warm, NOT HOT, water, pat dry until your face is slightly damp and Start using 3-4 drops of beard oil. Rub it into your hands and then gently massage the product into your beard. After the oil has been properly massaged into your skin and beard, lightly brush your beard downward with a boars hair beard brush (you can save the comb for when it’s longer) to stimulate your hair follicles and evenly apply the product. The amount of oil you use and the tools you use for your beard will change as it gets longer but these steps should be enough until your beard length reaches like 0.5 inches in length.
What do you wash your beard with? And how often? It could be an infected hair follicle from maybe working out and not showering immediately after ( I have had this happen since I will plan errands after my workout since I'm already out). Typical treatment would be an antimicrobial shampoo to help if there is alot and it's bothersome.
Is this the first time you have seen this? Are there more than these two?
The best advice I could give right now is keep ur hygiene up and regular, and look into beard care products like oils that also provide benefit for the skin underneath.
My go to oil is this
Botanical Skin Works Natural Man Bay Lime Beard Oil, All Natural Beard Conditioner, 4 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0062K33CE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_52.PDbSPH1H3P
I just got one from Amazon. The kit was ok but the balm is great.
I hope that link came out right. I'm on mobile. Anyway it has a real light sent, almost nothing. Tea tree
Dude, you have a long way to go before you decide that this beard isn't getting anywhere.
Wait a month and a half, then decide
Since it seems like you have sensitive skin. I definitely recommend the beard oil. It is good for pretty much everything skin and hair related.

good luck
It's extremely personal what scent you like and what works for your beard. I've tried dozens of different styles, but I've come to the conclusion that at my length (about 3-4 cm or longer), my beard needs a beard balm. If I wear it shorter (as I do sometimes), oil is fine.

The last beard oil I used that was decent, that wasn't very expensive, was bulldogs beard oil - bulldog beard oil

The balm I'm currently using is Mr Bear - Bear beard balm

Edit: My beard is coarse, thick and also wavy.

um.... your beard hair is like your normal hair....Id think about just letting it grow for 2 months and you REALLY need to buy a beard come not. also the way your beard is texture wise you mite only have a nice beard if you let it grow longer.
p.s not hating, if you havent tryed it I would check out https://www.amazon.com/Minoxidil-5-Extra-Strength-Regrowth-Bottles/dp/B000FQ73O0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_200_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1QVTFE9CW60PMPXNF5ME it mite help thicken your beard so it looks nicer:)
Thanks here’s the links for the products I’m using:
Beard balm (daily use, followed by combing): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00R6KEWJ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_z2yMAbR8464VH
Beard shampoo (once every other day): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LHUXFNG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_j4yMAb6Q26GHE
I also exfoliate everyday with a sensitive face scrub. I do have quite naturally oily skin which doesn’t help with acne.
I wash my 9-month-old once a week with head and shoulders and condition it 3 times a week withbarbury's conditioner-click for ingredients Should I be concerned or be doing something else?
I oil with a homemade beard oil (mainly coconut/almond/essentials) every day
Detroit Grooming Co. - 4oz Beard Butter Double the Size - Beard Balm - Beard Conditioner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HBV5KUU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ifWTzbEYSZ2XM
That’s the beard butter. A lot better than Beardbrand or any of those big company
Yes, get a brush. A brush will also help you distribute oil through the hair and down onto your skin. (You're using or planning on getting oils right?) You want a boar hair brush, the cheaper brushes with nylon or plastic bristles don't feel nice. I'm personally using a Black Boar brush--the bristles are cut in a concave shape so you have shorter stiffer bristles in the middle and longer softer at the ends. So, you'll have whatever you're in the mood for.
While you're at it you might as well upgrade your comb. I use Kent and Kent combs are very well regarded. They are more expensive than the cheap pharmacy combs, but one run through your face pubes and you'll understand why you paid more.
The brush I use.
The comb I use. It's pocket size.
If he washed it more it would probably end up even more dry. I used to wash mine one a week-ish. Used to because I shaved mine off.
As for not growing in on the sides, not much a man can do about that. For the dryness oils may be his savior and balms wouldn't hurt.
Honest Amish (www.amishbeardcare.com) gets generally positive reviews around here. Personally though, I much prefer Spiffy Stuff (http://www.mensspiffystuff.com/) Those little tiny bottles of oil might seem expensive but they last for months and only have positive effects on beard hairs, moisturizing and softening.
A quality boar bristle brush and/or comb might be appreciated. My brush comes from Wal-Mart, but it still helps work oil through the beard. I have this Kent comb. You might think, "10 bucks for a comb?" However, his comb glides through my beard like butter covered in KY and fits in my pocket; those cheap, black gas station combs cannot compare.
Thank you so much! Seriously can't appreciate this enough. Well, I was curious too about the general UV ray blocking effect of a beard in and of itself, and if I even need to apply it...the trouble is, I'm very very sun sensitive. The condition I speak of is Lupus (autoimmune disease) - any strong sun exposure (10am-4pm) especially in these summer months will cause me very painful symptoms + immediate fatigue. I avoid sunlight like the plague. This is also a huge reason why I keep a beard, as a survival mechanism.
I may not need to actually put the SPF block IN my beard, if what you say is true, and have considered that - I may need to grow it thicker in order to do that, like I said, I'm about medium thickness, so I put the sunscreen in the skin under it anyway.
It's the particularities like this about the sensitivities that I love this subreddit (and reddit in general) for so much, thanks again. I went ahead and ordered myself some beard oil, fragrance free; http://www.amazon.com/Conditioner-Fragrance-Dropper-Respectable-Kissable/dp/B00IB6IAOS/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1432936314&sr=1-2
