Melodic Black Metal: This should help you find more after you gone through the above.
Wow that seems like an awful movie. While the 90's black metal scene is really interesting, making a Hollywood movie of it is dumb and comparing it to Trainspotting is dumber. Also I can't imagine who Sky Ferreria is playing.
But what makes you think that Varg won't let his music be used in the movie? It wouldn't be the first time that Burzum was in a movies soundtrack.
I actually made a long list with reasons on rateyourmusic about this: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/r3art/black-metal-best-of-2016/
Top 5:
Ash Borer - The Irrepassable Gate
Deathspell Omega - The Synarchy of Molten Bones
Oranssi Pazuzu - Värähtelijä
Skáphe - Skáphe²
Zhrine - Unortheta
(Since Black Metal-records usually only get rated by listeners of Black Metal, these charts [also for specific decades and years] are a very good source of what is going on in the genre)
R.I.P. Обрекая Надежду На Вечность is one my favorite albums period. He produced some of the most outstanding releases in the genre in my opinion. And yes, it is confirmed on the Blazebirth Hall VK page. https://vk.com/blazebirthhall
Here is a list of over 2,000 DSBM releases.
Here is the same list but organized by favorites as voted by those who voted for this sort of thing.
Just a warning, there's a lot of really shitty albums on this list.
If you ask me tomorrow you could get different picks for 2nd and 3rd place but imma go with these. I prefer my bm not absolutely pure but with a little hints of other genres as well.
Honorable mentions to Behemoth - The Satanist, Xasthur - To Violate the Oblivious, Leviathan - The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide and all the other albums rated 4.5 and above on my rym account.
Check out this chart for highly rated albums in the 2000s: https://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=2000s&genre_include=1&include_child_genres=1&genres=black+metal&include_child_genres_chk=1&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=non... change 2000 to 2010 in the URL to get the same chart for the 2010s.
Deathspell Omega definitely. One of my favorite bands and everything from 2004 on is a 4/5 at least, I seriously can't give Hasjarl enough praise.
That aside, I made a list a while back just so I could share the best there is from France. Enjoy!
Can't find a back patch, but here's a quality 4x4 http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAYHEM-Patch-Dead-Euronymous-Burzum-Morbid-Darkthrone-Immortal-Bathory-Venom-/130611379761?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e690b7e31#ht_499wt_1416
Basically first wave BM on drugs. Fast, violent, filthy production, powerchords instead of tremolo picking (there are exceptions), short songs. War metal Bands on RYM
Shameless plug time: this is my top 100 black metal albums list. It was a work in progress over the course of almost 10 years. It only has one album from each band on it just to give more exposure to a broader range of artists.
I discovered Paysage d'Hiver through their split album with German atmospheric black metal act Lunar Aurora, aptly titled "Lunar Aurora / Paysage d'Hiver."
Nice raw and relentless atmospheric black metal infused with dark ambiance. You also get a taste of Lunar Aurora's glorious track "A Haudiga Fluag."
Here ya go. Amazon also has Hideous Gnosis I, Glossator: Black Metal Theory and Practice, and a few others. No luck yet on PDFs, but there are a few sites out there that have used copies for pretty cheap.
https://www.amazon.com/Floating-Tomb-Black-Metal-Theory/dp/8869770087
EDIT- PDF here
how is it inspired? They seem to grab influence from all over, like Anamnesis II being loosely based on a T.S. Eliot poem.
I didn't know this was a sub-genre. I haven't read it, but now that book is on my to-read list for sure. It sounds quite Lovecraftian.
If I were to recommend a book to other BM fans it would be Guy Sajer's Forgotten Soldier. It pairs well with some Marduk I think.
> This book recounts the horror of World War II on the eastern front, as seen through the eyes of a teenaged German soldier. At first an exciting adventure, young Guy Sajer's war becomes, as the German invasion falters in the icy vastness of the Ukraine, a simple, desperate struggle for survival against cold, hunger, and above all the terrifying Soviet artillery. As a member of the elite Gross Deutschland Division, he fought in all the great battles from Kursk to Kharkov.
I really hope others will chime in with recs.
For sure, a lot of excellent bands that legitimately helped shape what black metal is today get relatively overlooked.
I did some lazy googling because I didn't feel like making my own list, but I'd say this one is fairly comprehensive and well-made. Needless to say, there's a ton of great first wave material not everyone knows about that's worth a listen at the very least.
I'm guessing this is your copy. Voices of Wonder is the record label that distributed everything from Deathlike Silence Productions. After Euronymous died, they took over most control of Deathlike Silence. Chances are that they just pressed the re-release under Deathlike Silence in an effort to keep it more genuine and maybe in homage to Euronymous.
Or it could just be a bootleg.
Go to discogs, and look at the barcode/matrix runout. There will be information listed for each release. Should be fairly straightforward from there.
This sub (and black metal scene in general) is infuriating sometimes. For full up nazi bands people are said “oh, don’t mix politics in it” but labels signing Christian metal acts are called to be boycotted.
But well, there is also some straight up leftist black metal out there. From Finland there is Forssa 1903, named by a famous party convention of the Finnish Social Democratic Party. Listen here: https://forssa1903.bandcamp.com/ I really like both demos.
There is also a subreddit for Red and Anarchist black metal, r/rabm (no idea how active that is).
Also found this listing on rateyourmusic: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/WeirdoYYY/the_essential_rabm__red_and_anarchist_black_metal_/
Hope this helps!
That was a c&p from my post on the other web board. More stuff on my list here:
Fell Voices' 2011 album is the quintessential hypnotic BM album for me. Shortest 20 minute songs ever.
You listed a lot of great tracks there. I love Velvet Cacoon.
Rip your CD collection and self-host your own Spotify with Navidrome.
Bonus: Use Music Stash as excellent App without any Adds.
Problem Solved
Seconding Blod Eld Död.

This is an english translation, don't know how good though, it was the first result om Google.
Thanks for the heads up, now I HAVE to watch it.
Better or worse than this bad boy?
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Black Death, here are some Trailers
Walmart are now selling Burzum T-shirts.

I think if Varg agrees to this I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.
Regarding the whole black metal scene , nothing is really objective. For example being a 'satanist' can mean a lot of different things. Its time for the scene to grow up. I dont like the 'you can wear whatever you want to wear as long as its black' attitude. It kinda contradicts itself.
Darkspace, Mare Cognitum, Charcharoth, P.T.P have been named already, could add Astral Silence, Alrakis, Uncaladon, maybe Nightsky Obsession
There was this Space Black Metal blog specialised around your request a few years ago, but since it is down I could only refer you further to https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Belphybear/cosmic_metal/ and https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Wardruna/gravity_metal/
Hello! How did I miss this thread? I'm working on an extensive list of Danish black metal. It's quite a task..
Will add any bands I missed so far from this thread. See it here
Cheers
Hearing protection is very important. Seriously, if you don't use it you could have ringing in your ears for weeks, permanent chronic tinnitus, and permanent hearing loss. (Trust me, I know) I've tried a lot of high fidelity ear plugs from really expensive to very cheap, so far my favorite ones are these Hearos: https://www.amazon.com/Comfortable-Protection-Professional-Cancelling-Motorcyclists/dp/B000V9PKZA/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=hearoes&qid=1634835673&sr=8-4
Another thing, if you think you might want something at the merch booth, like a t-shirt with tour dates, just get one. There is a good chance you'll never be able to find one again.
Last, don't take drugs or alcohol. Live music is an incredible experience. Don't adulterate it.
If you care for a book, then I can strongly recommend: Blood, fire, death
~~I'll just link you the Amazon listing with a description~~
Edit: Ah that's just the foreword, it's basically a book about NSBM, it's influences, and also goes into detail about RABM and such
You can even use the built in mic in a laptop or a $5 USB webcam/mic. May have to get exploratory with placement in the room, but you'll end up with an original product if done correctly.
For super cheap, you might could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/TONOR-Condenser-Microphone-Podcast-Computer/dp/B01142EPO4/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1522949422&sr=8-10&keywords=usb%2Bmic&th=1
I work in an office/cubicle type setting and listen to my black metal on my old 6th gen ipod touch with these earbuds https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D3QZAAC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 best ear buds for the money I have ever found!!! I have been jamming some Beastcraft - Dawn of the Serpent today! \m/\m/
Something I've found really useful for black metal is the Marshall mini-amp. Get all the distortion you want out of pedals and the amp, run it through the mini-amp and you can get a pretty lo-fi sound.
I use a RAT pedal and a Spider IV with my mini-amp for black metal usually.
Well if you like the sound all I use is a rockband mic for vocals, guitar running through a Digitech Black-13 peddle that goes straight to my PC with a guitar to USB. lol About as cheap as you can get. I would personally rather mic a good amp to get feedback and use an nice interface for everything but,I don't have on available at the moment. So you can get by with the cheapest stuff possible but, Id say pick up a recording interface and some mics. You can get bundles pretty cheap. Something like this to start out maybe.
What exactly do you mean by setup?
If you like pedals, this pedal I got a pretty good black metal sound out of. When I have time, i you like VSTs I'll look on my computer for the one I use.
It's listed as, "Scent of Winter" on Amazon.
