LABELS!!!! Nowadays is back again to labels, best way to find curated music in the same vein of what you already like. Like a house tune, find more of the same artist, check what label it's on and then open a gazillion tabs checking the label's soundcloud (likely to repost stuff from similar related labels/artists), check the label's discogs page, then check related artists on the label, etc. All the knowledge is right there at your finger tips.
I also like themed mixes from artists I follow and then ID everything I like from a mix (annoying but requesting for IDs on mixes is totally cool IMO, if you're playing other artists' music you better let people know what you're playing, unless it's an unreleased track or whatever). I then repeat the same process above.
I also check vinyl listings on RedeyeRecords.co.uk or juno.co.uk everyday or every other day for new releases, listen to the previews and buy a thing or two or take notes (I use Stickies) to write down everything I might want to check has a digital release later or I want to illegally try to get my hands on, just being honest.
Other thing I do is follow curated YouTube channels... I like OOUKFunkyOO, Slav, Moskalus, Gazzz696, Stamp The Wax, Brazilian Rare Grooves... lots of great channels out there.
These are the ones I have

Okay, take a breath. Walk away from the computer and get yourself a snack, a drink, and your headphones. Be sure to go to the bathroom and for the love of god, wash your hands. Done? Cool. Now make all the phonecalls you've been putting off, make sure your bills are paid and your distractions are laid to rest. Are you ready? Okay.
Put on your headphones and head to http://www.beatport.com. In the top lefthand side is a green field called 'genres', select that and go to 'electro house', select 'tracks', order them by release date for the last year, and start listening one at a time for about 12 hours or so. About 98% of what you hear wont be even close to what you want to hear. Out of the 750 or so tracks you listen to, about 15 of those tracks wont only be exactly what you're looking for, they'll be unique, one of a kind finds that not a lot of other people will have heard, or will be exactly what people you're playing for will want to hear. Repeat this for all genres you want.
This is called digging, and this is one of the most important components of being a DJ. Do this at least once every week to keep your ear to the ground for the next big thing, your big thing, or whatever thing. Whatever it is you dig up, it'll form a library of sounds that is uniquely you. This is the only way to solve the 'I'm looking for x' problem. Look for it. I hope to god this doesn't sound condescending, but honestly, the ability to dig for music is the part of DJing that DJs don't talk about, and has to be done. Invest yourself beyond your hardware. The music is all there at your fingertips. Look for it.
There’s an embarrassing amount of wrong advice in this thread. Please /u/DimoHG, read this.
Audio cables come in two general varieties: Tip-Sleeve (TS) and Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS). The tip of the cable is the electrical ‘ground’, and doesn’t carry a signal. Both the sleeve and the ring can carry audio signals, and both are found on the side of the audio cable connector.
TRS cables, like the one you’ve got in your mixer, are meant to carry two audio signals from one jack — the ring carries the left audio, and the sleeve carries the right audio. But your mixer has separate left and right outputs! In fact, the mixer has two TS audio outputs.
So what happens when you put a TRS cable in a TS socket? It varies from mixer to mixer, and the results are almost never good. In your case, it sounds like you’re getting some electrical interference which is causing all your issues.
You can solve the issue by simply getting the appropriate cable for your setup. This is the cable you need. It’s two separate 1/4 inch TS cables, which send audio to an RCA connection like on the back of your speakers.
Hope this was helpful!
That way both RCAs would fit side by side like normal cables instead of those horrible monstrosities you have there.
So, I feel I may have achieved my 'DJ' bucket list already. I love namedropping the people I've DJed with. (brace yourself for my ego) Tiesto, Faithless, Mauro Picotto, Slam, MYLO, Pendulum, Felix Da Housecat, & more..
Smaller acts like Phats & Small, Utah Saints, Unicorn Kid.
The stuff I thought would be my ultimate nights really weren't. (Booked and played with Pete Tong, was truly awful). Best night of my life I think was playing with MYLO.
I've composed for games (bad ones) and adverts, had releases for a few record labels, remixed a good handful of my idols and had a track feature on a compilation with loads of my heroes. (https://rateyourmusic.com/release/comp/futurecop_/we_are_the_future.p/ Track 16) Had a track played on BBC Radio 1.....
I still feel empty though, never got where I wanted to be, contracts dried up, companies folded, got m'lady preggers and didn't accept a place on a tour around Europe and OZ (Due to birth date). I constantly think the next track I put out is gonna be the next big thing....but when I compare it to the production coming out from young talent, I just gotta hold my hands up - they rule.
My continued bucket list sits on a hard-drive in the form of unfinished projects.
Possible, yes. The theory is all there. Practical? No. You do NOT want an experimental approach to DJing failing you in front of a live crowd of 300+ people (depending on where you play). Reliability is a huge reason why Traktor/SSL and OSX wins in the DJ market.
If you insist on running Linux, I would recommend Mixxx.
Sandisc extreme pro is perfect for pioneer. It’s what I use personally and a lot of other DJs preferred choice I believe.
Great speed and reliable.

Build your set in three-song segments, string those three-song segments together. Think of this as the 1-2-3, 1-2-3 approach. Once you establish three-songs that go together, you can vary the order of your set structure by moving blocks of songs around. This also takes the stress out of picking tracks during an impromptu set, since you know where you are headed for the next song or two. The only thing you need to concern yourself with is the energy of the dance floor, and what they are responding best too. Move in that direction.
Things to consider :
Last, how do you plan on mixing. Long slow fades like a deep house DJ, or jacked up mixer bashing like a high energy DJ? Keep it consistent throughout your set.
Have fun, and good luck!
Dec 07, benga / ntype on his wheel and deal show! Incredible set! Also, laxx has a nsd mix real eased last year I think.

Madeon upped the level on Launchpad performances way higher than most people are going to be able to reach.
That said, this performance was cluttered and/or out of key, and had some occasional mistakes. I don't expect everyone to be able to play flawlessly, but when you're uploading a video or mix (essentially for promo), you want to display your best possible work.
The best, most clean parts of this performance only had two playing at the same time, which kind of defeats the purpose of the Launchpad.
Suggestions for improvement:
Get things in key. Either do it by ear/keyboard or let software like Mixed in Key [$58] or Rapid Evolution [Free] do a lot of the legwork for you (double check it afterwards, though).
Do some EQing. Outside of harmonizing, the other thing that makes this sound cluttered is having a lot of stuff in the same range (~1:20-1:33 for example). For samples you want to use as kicks or low end, roll of their highs. The opposite goes for your high-hats and high-range stabs.
Lots of respect for putting together a sample-based performance. With some practice and technical finesse this will to turn out great!
Edit: Added suggestions
It's not a channel, but you can search for "Redbull ThreeStyle" on YouTube, it's an annual competition with lots of great DJs. The videos are on the individual DJs' pages, but there are playlists.
EDIT: Turns out they host the sets on MixCloud!
you can go into Bon Jovi's Livin' On a Prayer from that. that is a good call and response song if you have the crowd for it. I've done it enough that I have the two premixed, so I could buy myself some time to deal with other stupid shit relating to the timeline.
pricing is a marketing ploy.
Beatport is the (EDM) market leader and they ask labels / distributors to do an exclusive release for the first x weeks.
if they go accept, then Beatport will price it at 2.49. as a result of this higher pricing, the distributor / label / artist will get more money from Beatport, because Beatport collected more revenue.
otherwise, Beatport will price new tracks 1.99 for a non-exclusive release; or simply 1.49 for a re-release << 25% or all "new" tracks on Beaport are actually old. I have seen tracks which have been released 65 times, like this one was released 6 times
http://www.beatport.com/search?query=brasileo+minimal+concentration+mix+steven+angeon
also, it is very much possible to find the same track priced differently. take a look at this example: 1.49 and 1.99 prices for the same thing
http://www.beatport.com/search?query=urban+biorhythm+original
also, the payout percentages can probably vary for different labels. so they play around with timing etc. sometimes they will do an exclusive on Beatport, other times they will go to all the stores at the same time etc. one of the labels i know, told me they get 90% of all unit sales during the 1st 10 days upon original release.
personally, i mix and match websites. if i really have to have it, i will pay 2.49; otherwise i will wait for reduction to 1.99 or 1.49; and for "regular" music, i go to iTunes and Amazon.
yes -- YouTube and SoundCloud often do not have iTunes and Amazon links, but I built a website that makes automatic links to 8 top stores, and Bandcamp, so I use it to find the best price.
It's not free but http://www.mixedinkey.com/ has the best key detection and it can put it in the file name. If you already have the keys from something else like Rapid Evolution or Rekord Box you can use MP3Tag.de to change the filenames to %artist% - %title% %key% %bpm%.
I know the guy you're describing. He's also got carpeted 2 Way speakers with waffle grilles and bullet tweeters and an American DJ amp! Edit: These bad boys: https://jet.com/product/VRTX15-Speakers-and-Stands-Technical-Pro-PA-DJ-Audio-Set-New-VRTX15SET1/656f4344475942f18ac8be6f40b54b9e
Sounds like it is the powered speaker that has attracted attention, you might need to go stealth mode. You and your mates can go silent disco with minimal additional spend as follows...
if anyone is interested, here a 2hs long mix i did in FEB for the RedBullMusicAcademy, it has a lot of tropical stuff (from new cumbia to tropical house / 90 -> 130bpm) https://www.mixcloud.com/Jupa/megamixtape-2o15-118min/ (i didn't get to send the submission tho)
I use KeyFinder because it's free and highly accurate. They're actually in the middle of a big retune effort involving a huge database of songs, so it's going to get even more accurate.
I leave the BPM detection to Traktor because of it's going to set up a grid anyways. And if it messes it up, I'm going to fix that within the app anyways.
+1 on bigger speakers... studio monitors aren't going to travel far.
We went with this Ryobi 2300 watt generator to power our XDJs and QSC K12.2 speakers. It works great - quiet, relatively compact, and can power the two K12s up to about 70% volume. We've been using this for 50-250 person beach parties and it's served us well.
Numark DJ2GO2 is what you're looking for I would think: https://www.numark.com/product/dj2go2
I would also recommend an app to train your ears and learn music theory and chord progessions like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evilduck.musiciankit

For your style of mixing I think you've like the finer control you get from the rotary knobs on overall channel gain, however they aren't required to try out the mixing style. I switch between eq mixing and channel gain only as I see fit for each mix on any mixer and tend to start eq cuts only when I get into high energy and denying most breakdowns.
I've owned an Empath - about $1049 USD for a few years now and I love it. It has three phono pre-amps and they sound good, plus three channel eqs. A major drawback is, like most solid state mixers, the sound does degrades above 0 DB and sounds like shit if it red lines.
You mention you can't imagine not having channel eq's but consider if you play at Stereo in Montreal, all they have is a 1620 and a stellar sound system. Their view is if you can't play on that, tough. It's worth figuring out how to survive a night with out eq's if you get booked at a place like that.
To try out channel gain mixing, start by mixing the minimal ends of your tracks so you can avoid bass lines on bass lines. Thats a major crutch of the EQ's as they can conveniently remove an unwanted bassline. Channel gain mixing is a bit less forgiving and requires you plan out the bass line transition more excataly, but it just requires a bit of practice. Picture a sort of gas and clutch relationship as you transition. Keep in mind that your adding your frequencies together and adding up gain. Watch your master out levels and try to mix without adding more then 2DB during your transitions, then as you get better, no change at all.
Hope this helps a little.
DJing and producing are different activities. You don't need to DJ to produce music. Go to r/edmproduction
If you're still interested in DJing per se, check out programs like http://www.mixxx.org/ and watch some youtube videos by ellaskins on beatmatching
Or you might go for Ableton Live, it can be used for music production and live performance.
There are many different DVS programs for DJing and many different DAW programs for producing music. Go find them and decide which one you want.
I've been using this thing for a couple of years and its sick:
You can always have it on you on your keyring ready to go
I'll have to use a throwaway so I don't link my name to my main account...
Mainly I forget beatmatching and attempt to focus more on crafting a narrative, whether it's tonal or thematic. With jazz you can really explore emotional and energetic highs and lows, or start and stop things at your will. It's not very technically challenging, but sometimes it could take 2-3 minutes to find the perfect next song so you have to be very familiar with your collection and understand how much leeway you have to segue into the next composition. But the transition is more of, "Is this jarring tonally, melodically or energetically?" as opposed to technical.
But for me the structure of a jazz mix follows a regular electronic music format normally, start out slow, build to a climax, come down and start over. The challenge is that I've never been able to do that on the fly very easily. An errant dissonant note could throw off the whole mix, and jazz being an improv-based type of music requires a bit more planning than other genres. So I spend a lot of time listening, a lot of time picking, testing transitions, and sorting by energy and tone.
Here are some examples from a podcast/internet radio set I did awhile back:
It is possible but forget beat matching (very rarely will it work).
On mixcloud there's is quite a few good jazz djs. I might suggest The Hedonist and Adam Kvasnica which I like a lot and might give you a better perspective on mixing jazz.
Good luck and hope this helps!
If you're on MacOS, consider DJCU (DJ Conversion Utility, https://sellfy.com/atgr_production_team/p/emuy/ )
I moved from Traktor to Rekordbox with that tool. Works like a charm and will only set you back 19,50€ (one time payment).
According to these benchmarks, it's almost on par with a Intel Core2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz, so you should check if Traktor fills the bill with that old processor. I think you should be fine. Also, how many GBs of RAM? That makes a huge difference.
EDIT: After reading your edit, you should be good to go with that laptop. I think using a DAW would be a much more stressful task for it, but for DJ soft you should be fine.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD Error that is indeed a Driver issue.
I would first make sure that you have it connected to a USB 2 port and not USB 3. Next I would recommend that you go disconnect the ddj sx and into Device Manager and Uninstall the driver, reboot and reinstall the driver, shutdown the system and connect ddj back up then start the system up.
If after doing all this the error still occurs, my last recourse would be to install Traktor then VirtualDJ and see if these applications cause the same problem. If all applications cause the same error, then you know for a fact that something is wrong with the driver on the system and I would then contact Pioneer about the problem. BlueScreenView will give you a quick Report of the BSOD Error so that you have something to hand over to their support.
MixMeister BPM Analyzer is a program I used before I bought Mixed in Key. It works great, it's free, it's pretty quick compared to others I've used, and it write the BPMs to the ID3 tags.
Abelton works, go look up some tutorials to help you out if you don't want to purchase new software. In general,aAny other DAW will work too.
Mixmeister is very powerful and easy to use, and is what you are looking for. Depending on your OS, may or may not currently be working. e: looks like they made a windows 8 update, surprising.
The Camelot system is copyrighted. You are infringing by having a picture of the Camelot system without permissions. Use the "Wheel of Fifths" From Wikipedia, along with the OpenKey notation system. That is opensource.
Before you invest any money, I think by far the smartest thing to do is download this trial of Traktor and just mess around with it with a keyboard and mouse. If it's something you enjoy, than upgrade! Otherwise you'll blow a bunch of money on midi controllers and soundcards only to discover it isn't something you don't really like.
I'm a little biased, but I'd start by downloading Mixxx: http://www.mixxx.org
It's free DJ software, and you can use it while you're learning all the basics before you decide if you want to get more committed to DJing and buy hardware.
The most important thing to learn is how to "beat match" without using any sort of auto-sync. Each song has a tempo we refer to as the BPM (beats per minute), and when you want to do a good mix, you try to match the BPM of the outgoing song with the BPM of the incoming song.
In Mixxx, you can adjust the BPM with the "pitch" slider (shortcut keys are F1/F2 or F5/F6). Try loading up two similar techno songs with clear beats and mess around with the pitch sliders. Once you have the tempo matched, you should nudge the incoming track forwards so that the songs are in phase (the beats occur at the same time). You can use F3/F4 or F7/F8 to do temporary pitch bends, which will nudge a track for you in Mixxx.
It only takes a paragraph to explain beat matching, but it'll take some time to master, so don't get frustrated. Using a separate headphone output is essential when trying to beatmatch too. The reason you'll want to learn to beatmatch by hand is because BPM detection and auto-sync don't always work properly (in any software or CDJs), so you'll need to know how to do it sooner or later.
There's a brief explanation of headphone cueing and other DJing stuff in the Mixxx manual, along with a full list of shortcut keys: http://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/manual#djing_with_mixxx
Wouldn't it be easier to use a mini laptop like the Gpd Pocket Max or the Gpd Win Max rather than something you can't even easily prop up?
Gpd pocket max: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Ultrabook-Notebook-m3-8100Y-Graphics/dp/B07W8MW2ZR
Gpd win max: https://www.amazon.com/Storage-Handheld-Gameplayer-Notebook-i5-1035G7/dp/B08BLSF473
Maybe you should up your lighter game
exFAT32 isn't supported by cdjs. Also, the read/write speed is usually referring to sequential speed (how fast can large files be transferred). You need a usb stick that also has fast 4K random read speed, because that will be a better measurement of how quickly small files can be accessed.
A common tool to measure usb speeds is Crystal Disk Mark. You can use it to test your usb stick and compare it to other ones (people on amazon usually post screenshots of their results). I use the SanDisk Extreme CZ80 64 GB and it's never really given me any issues.
Thanks ;)
The LED wall has several presets, but they all react to the music in real-time, just like the lights.
Custom visuals are definitely planned. The next update will add an SDK, so users can also design their own environments (using Unity).
I plan to add another version of the turntable with more modern features (cue points, loops, etc...) that will sort of look like the Rane twelve, and a 4 channel mixer.
I do plan to add social features, so you can livestream from inside the app. People watching the stream will be able to use a non-VR version of the app, but DJing will always require a VR headset.
For an overview of all planned features, I recommend you take a look at the roadmap: https://trello.com/b/hZeApOD8/steam-early-access-public-road-map
You can click each card for a more detailed breakdown of all the features.
I made a 30-minute mix that tried to capture the phases of falling in love (however cheesy that may sound). I started with infatuation, on to confirmation, then experiencing some problems, then rock bottom, then on to acceptance, if you can call it that.
Definitely not a perfect mix, but I was definitely trying to tell a story with it.
Sure. It's not really that I'm transitioning out of a tune every 2 or so minutes. I'm layering many tunes on top of each other. It goes like this:
Start Track A.
About 1 minute into Track A, bring in Track B and EQ so that Tracks A + B both continue to play at the same time.
About 2 minutes into Track A + B, bring in Track C and EQ so that Tracks A + B + C all play at the same time.
About 1-2 minutes later, Track A is about to end, so prepare Track D and transition out of Track A into Track D. Now Tracks B + C + D are all playing at the same time.
About 2 minutes later, Track B is about to end, so prepare Track E and transition out of Track B into Track E. Now Tracks C + D + E are all playing at the same time, etc.
I'm president of DJ Club at UCSB this year, and our first event ever was booking Dillon Francis to play on campus. It was a fantastic show, we had 700 in attendance in a 800 capacity venue! Not bad for a student org that's just started. Check out our page here! https://www.facebook.com/ucsbdjclub Thanks!
Adding: #3: just buy 2 packs of these to "borrow" (just assume you're never getting them back) to other DJ's in need.
>If you plan on doing this full time, you'll need to optimize a computer for Traktor. I've never had it crash once in four years, and I'm doing shows every weekend. Free up RAM, make sure minimal things are running in the background. I picked up a laptop for $100 used and it runs flawlessly, never crashed.
DJ noob here, but I do know computers.
The reason computers are crashing is not because of lack of RAM (any modern computer has 4+GB of RAM and that is more than enough for a audio program) or programs running the background, 99% of the time its because of bad drivers or faulty hardware like a HDD dying, faulty RAM etc. Tho running unnecessary crap is obviously not a good thing.
My advice:
Buy a mid range -> high end laptop from Asus, Samsung, Sony, Lenovo or a Macbook, check forums where owners talk about problems they have with the model before buying, make a post and ask if its suited for your needs, battery life, overheating, screen glare, whatever. Make sure you have the latest drivers from the the guys who made the components in the PC, sound-drivers seem to be specially prone to crashing computers, same with graphics. Download the latest and greatest from Realtek, Intel, Nvidia / AMD or whatever for your hardware. Run a 4 day test where traktor runs some huge tracklist you made, if it works for 4 days straight, you can assume it stable. You can also do HDD, RAM and CPU torture test to check for errors. Have windows set up a restore point, or make a recovery image (Control Panel). That way you know you can always revert back to the working state later, if your computer starts fucking up. Windows 8 also crashes dramatically less then Windows7 on a app level basis, if you hardware has Win8 support, meaning it has 100% working drivers available.
In my experience, at house parties, people like when rock songs play out almost entirely. You don't really need flawless transitions to go from EDM into some other genre. You can just let something play out to the end of it's outro and then start the next song.
There is nothing wrong with having a few seconds of silence and then starting a more rock oriented tune as people will here the intro guitar and drums and start freaking out.
Here is a mix a DJ I know did for a radio station. He mixes in some rock with other genres. Around the 5min mark he mixes into Cake - The distance and then into glitch hop(?) and then into NiN - Closer and some classic rock and back into more electronic styles. Might help you or give you some ideas.
Personal mashup of SHM Antidote & Greyhound, I put it all my mixes cause I love it so much. Can be found on my Soundcloud page here ---> https://soundcloud.com/lee_seaver/v2 (sorry for shamless plug)
Ha well then. It just so happens I fucking love Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Neonlight, Audio etc, I was just making a point that there is more to dnb than those two step drums in every liquid tune ever. Neurofunk mix wot I gone and done. Extra nutty.
There exists Creative Commons licensed music. The license itself can be found here https://creativecommons.org/. For example, a bunch of CC licensed psy-trance is available at ektoplazm.com.
On example of CC license usage is when artist says "use it for free, just don't claim you created it and remember to give me a shoutout" (publish a track list, in our case). How do you clear that with some printing house?
If I were you would find some mixes to download. For a school probably need clean material, so finding radio mixes might be your best option. I know it sounds possibly unethical, but it sounds like you need a solution tonight. It'll be much better than trying to learn to DJ on one days notice.
Check out your local radio station website to see if they have anything.
If you can't find anything on your radio station go to https://www.mixcloud.com and https://soundcloud.com/.
Just listen to a DJ mixes you think would be good and play them at the party.
As for the songs you have to play, create a playlist and play them in between the mixes. Or just tell the school what you're doing and that you think it would be better to play mixes rather than just play a bunch of songs back to back.
If you are on MacOS you can use the DJ Conversion's Utility to convert your Rekordbox folders/playlists to iTunes.
Then you can use Traktor's build in iTunes integration to get those exact same folders and playlists in Traktor.
Converting cues loops and other DJ metadata from Rekordbox to Serato is not supported by DJCU, it was written for the other way around (from Traktor to Rekordbox) That being said if there is enough demand I can look into adding Rekordbox to Traktor to DJCU. Technically it's not a problem. And the price can't really be a barrier at US$ 14,50 https://sellfy.com/p/emUY/
Or you can have a look at Rekordbuddy 2.
Prepare a USB drive for CDJ's than import that drive into your friend's Rekordbox. Sometimes the import takes 2 runs before all cues loops etc are imported.
If you are an MacOS have a look at this. One of the reasons why I've developed it is for back to back preperations:
a little background
We developed the djay Conversion Utility because we wanted to use cues set in Traktor Pro in djay about 6 months ago. The idea was just for in house usage, we never intended to go public with it. But when we spoke about it with other DJ's it became clear that more people needed this functionality. As such we released what we used in house under the name djay Conversion Utility. Just because we could, we introduced conversion from Traktor Pro to Rekordbox as well as other options while the utility evolved.
And then.. things went a little nuts. It turned out that hundreds of people needed the Traktor Pro to Rekordbox conversion. We never realized that. So we expanded options, de-bugged the utility you know the drill. The early adopters might recall december 31st 2016 when we released no less then 4 updates within 12 hours. Just to make sure that everyone could prep their gigs for NewYears eve.
But coding, debugging and supporting our users drew our attention from something else. The name didn't cover the functionality of the utility anymore and the user interface was definably due for a less geeky overhaul. This all became painfully clear when DigitalDJTips.com did an article mentioning our utilities http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2017/04/dancefair-2017-3-products-show-highlights/ In the first draft of the article they had the conversion options all wrong luckily they were flexible enough to change them and well you can't argue with taste but this time they were spot on with their "not pretty" remark. This experience opened our eyes, time to get the appearance of the utility in line with its usability.
So I'm proud to inform you that from this day foward the djay Conversion Utility will be named DJ Conversion Utility. A new name (ok missing 2 letters form the old), with a new face, but the same functionality under the hood. This update is free for our existing customers!
You can buy DJCU at https://sellfy.com/p/emUY
You can follow the instructions in this link to be able to download any soundcloud song or you can use this mac application
I saw something very similar a while ago on the Puoneer forum. Might be that the file metadata is incorrect. Something to do with too many mpeg frames being specified in the headers.
Apparently this tool can help http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/
Here is the source thread. https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115020415823-XDJ-RX2-USB-Stick-Problems
You'll have to move Serato DJ. All your crates etc will move over.
Here is a list of all the controllers that work with Serato DJ.
http://serato.com/dj/hardware/controllers
Some are "upgrade ready" which means you need to buy the Serato DJ software, others are "enabled" just just like a Serato SL box, it acts like a dongle.
Some are "DVS Ready" which means you need to purchase the DVS expansion to use DVS as extra decks. And there are some which are "enabled".
Take a look, I can recommend the Denon MC6000 mk2 and the DDJ SX2.
The SZ has a Serato compatible DVS sound card and it should accept Serato control vinyl through the unit for Serato DJ w/ the DVS expansion pack. Here is the site that explains it: http://serato.com/dj/expansion-packs/dvs
Try downgrading actually. I found 1.3 the most stable of the last few releases of DJ.
You can install multiple instances of the software simultaneously. Just go here for the archive: http://serato.com/dj/downloads/archive and instructions for installing multiple versions on the same computer:
http://serato.com/dj/support/16841/how-to-install-multiple-versions-of-serato-dj/rane
Finally a proper competitor to the Numark NS6.
Initial look this thing seems beastly. I'm afraid of what Pioneer's gonna charge though...
Here's the official video: http://serato.com/dj/pioneer-ddj-sx
I agree with that but at least there is a free alternative Rapid evolution, and you also would want to use the Camelot wheel in the Mixed in Key page. The only problem is that RE is more difficult to use and i didn't test if it was as accurate
Try MixMeister BPM Analyzer, it is a bit more robust than the track analyzer within Serato and can determine precise BPMs of anything you run through it. I use it to read BPMs on vinyl I rip, and the occasional tune that Serato fails to get a read on. You take the outputs from MixMeister and manually enter them as the BPM in Serato and it will adjust the Beatgrid (and usually give you a warning dialog before you do this). Well worth the $4.
I HIGHLY reccomend looking into a program called mixed in key. Ill grab you the link to their website, it has taken my mixes to the next level.
http://www.mixedinkey.com/ <--- link to the website
The program is a little expensive but paired with platinum notes i have found that the music coming out of the speakers flows better together and sounds much crisper due to plat notes and mixed in key. Also, give this a read it helped me a lot.
http://www.mixedinkey.com/Book/
I hope this helps!
I hate Platinum Notes and think it's pretty much a scam - but that's for actual djs who have control over their gains and EQs. For an automated playlist, it would probably work - but it's also $100.
For a free, open0source option, try MP3Gain. It won't have the eq/compression options, but it's not really that necessary for mastered tracks.
I would think you can find tutorials anywhere. If they are employees and just "we play everything" guys, I could see them benefiting from virtual dj. I personally found it to have the easiest learning curve and they have tons of tutorials free on their site. http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials.html
Are you searching for "tutorials" or "online courses"?
By mixing your own songs you mean producing your own songs I assume? Don't go buy a professional setup. Try out some free software like Mixxx (http://mixxx.org/) or Virtual DJ free (http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html).
Oh, and just like with Guitar Hero and learning the real guitar, don't expect it to be easy.
Tascam DR-40. I also always separately record the output from the mixer, and the built-in mics (to capture the room ambience and the crowd). Then I process the mic recording a bit and mix it under the clean recording, I find it makes the whole thing a bit more organic and lively. Especially if the people were into it. You can hear an example of this on my Mixcloud, it can be heard on this mix, for example.
Grab some free software: Mixxx - not the best, but not bad at all and free!
Learn the music you know and always be hunting for new stuff (or old stuff!).
Ultimately, your mixing skills aren't what will make you a killer DJ and they will come with time. It's all about knowing what to play and when.
There are 4 major aspects of music production.
Composition
Arrangement
Sound design/synthesis
Mixing/mastering
You will need to at least understand all those aspects to really understand music production.
As massive is a synth, you'll want to learn about that aspect to learn how to use it.
If you can afford it, I highly recommend syntorial to understand the fundamental concepts of how synthesis works.
Deadmau5 is also offering a $90 masterclass which, whether you like his music or not, is bound to be informative.
I just DJ'ed a house party last night, and I like to start out with hip hop ghetto stuff to get people down there (people love songs like ass ass ass ass) and then transition into some edm (moombah, house, house-like songs like shots and party rock anthem)
Here's the mix if you wanna listen to it, take it with a grain of salt though b/c
1) I started at 11:30 and had been drinking since 9
2) A lot of my friends kept touching the decks
3) It was just a house party so it's gonna be sloppy but as long as you keep the music going, ppl don't give a shit about how you mix, it's all about the song choice and mood
http://www.4shared.com/mp3/yTgEd0fD/KevinY_-_Trap_House_10-14-12.html?
I forgot to hit record when I started and that's why it starts in the middle of the song but that's the first song, so imagine yourself being at the party when listening to this :D
Steel Mind - Bad Passion [full disclosure: this is my own edit. But it's turned up in some mixes by pretty big names like The Hacker and Local Suicide]
https://hearthis.at/ is alright. If you have a website and want something that can be embed and skipped through (since mixcloud does not allow skipping) you could try audioBoom. I think BBC uses them. But honestly there isn't a great solution right now imo
You need something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DHPHIJQ/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item
I use one to connect my controller to an optical input on my amp, as my old school mixer is already connected to the only analogue RCA input I've got.
Hmmm... I thought you meant video when I entered this thread, but I see that you mean audio with a microphone of the crowd.
Not sure how to do that... I was going to suggest an old cell phone in airplane mode recording 30 minute videos at a time- that's what I use to "record the crowd" - but I see now that you mean something different now.
I'd say a good portable stereo recorder like this one here would probably do the job nicely.
small tip, but these are awesome, just keep them on speaker poles at all times & you never have to think of them again

You can't do it like that for windows. You would need a soundcard for that. Quality for soundcard varies a lot, from super expensive to very cheap. Cheapest I could find that would ''do the job'' is this ; https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Control-UCA202-Ultra-Low-Interface/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=sr\_1\_1?dchild=1&keywords=Behringer%2BU-Control%2BUCA202&qid=1622771924&sr=8-1&th=1
I think it is good to have a USB 3.1 stick. basically a faster version of usb 3.0, when you start managing a larger library or if you are working with flacs or other large files it can really speed up the process.
I will leave this stupid thread up but issue was bug with Lexar 32GB drives
Edit since this thread showing up on google, maybe someone will stumble on this in a year:
I have found one thread to support this bug. Pioneer Forums
This person claims to have had this issue for over a year (as of Jan 2016). I have been on the same version of RB for about a year and a half, so I'm not sure where this bug came in. Could have been there all along, didn't get this flash drive until Black Friday-ish. Purchased this Lexar 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive on Amazon
Those carts are no longer made by Stanton but were likely rebranded Ortofon's. Check their site for a local dealer and take the old ones in and see if they match anything in stock. www.ortofon.com. I found a set of OEM replacements on Amazon but they are crazy expensive with shipping, you'd be better off buying all new cartriges. https://www.amazon.com/Stanton-Diablo-Blue-Stylus-Concordes/dp/B003SP95ZK/ref=sr_1_42?ie=UTF8&qid=1513958193&sr=8-42&keywords=stanton+stylus
It’s got it used on amazon for about $150. You can also purchase multiple packs if you are in a B2B so both DJs can hear the same cue and have their own volume control. This could also be used to send signal to a remote speaker wirelessly. So far I’ve been getting great battery life out of it. Around 8 hours or so out of two AA batteries. And it’s super loud. My only complaint is that there is a slight hiss during quiet spots of music, nothing annoying, but is there.

This is an all in one “gig” bag. You can find cheaper prices, but depends on what do you exactly want. Magma, the brand has cool gadgets and bags check them out.
The detailed EQing and other tweaks means I can adjust the output to suit different headphones, my car, or that less than excellent stereo system at my friend's place.
It has a metric fuck tonne of other excellent playback options and features too.
I just like it ok.
It's obvious you're not being serious; if you were then you would know you can find the shit you need on eBay.
Done. Good luck illmoney!
Show some love here fellow reddit djs as I've done the same :)

Sorry to hear that, I "caught" tinnitus 10 years ago- prior to becoming a DJ so its unrelated- and its been with me ever since. It increases when im under stress and in everyday life you just adjust your mind to "hear it away". Hasnt impeded me to develop musically but I think it could be a problem if it were more severe.
Theres also a practical tip you can do anywhere, it involves tapping the back of your neck with your fingers whilst covering your ears. Heres a how to:
https://lifehacker.com/this-weird-trick-might-give-you-brief-relief-from-your-1794093023
Good luck!
I'm not sure if it's useful for more serious tinnitus, but this technique really helps me whenever I get a ringing in my ears; link to technique
Any guide related to MIDI mapping should be applicable. If you're looking to get the LEDs working, they map to the same "output" notes as the inputs on Traktor. Once I get home from work, I'll post my mapping cheat sheet.

Thanks, people who want to learn the fundamentals of DJing without spending a lot of money on DJ gear was indeed the main target audience for this application.
To answer your questions: There is a little bit of latency (15~30ms) between an action and the audio response, but it has never bothered me while using the application. Support for multiple decks and different mixers is planned, a complete roadmap with all the planned features can be found here. And yes, I'm developing this on my own now.
The thing with HP is that their build quality isn't very good, so they don't last long.
Personally I'm a fan of Lenovo, and this model, while a bit more expensive than the one you were looking at, will last a lot longer. Save up the extra $275 and spring for that.
Shinp Full Color Laser with ILDA and i'd request some 30k or 40k scanners.
Edit:Or the Chauvet GBC if you dont want to buy chinese lasers.
I've recently gotten myself a fancy new setup to record. Along with using a Novation Twitch and an Akai MPK25 to control Serato DJ, I have a lighting rig, which I use while mixing to make it more dynamic. I use a chauvet Obey 40, with two Chauvet Mini Kintas and two generic LED spotlights, to create an atmosphere. AAANNDDDD along side that, my most recent addition is two video cameras on tripods to catch the whole mix from different angles, which I then take into Sony Vegas 13 to edit it all down and make it look cool. (Oh, and I've got my mix recorded in Serato while I play, which I sync up with the video via a few clap samples that I play from my speakers). Here's the final product ( don't mind my kinda boring mixing, I just wanted to test out my whole setup to see if it worked) http://youtu.be/MkKARNRvfU8
And to help you out with the recording situation, Behringer sells rather good quality input/output sound cards for about $30 (Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_5zRVub1GCHXDR), and you just plug in the output from the mixer into it, and use audacity (or your favorite recording program) to record it all.
This is a two-hour trance & progressive house mix I made for a friend's mix series. Sonically it's supposed to go from day to night and gradually increases in intensity and BPM from 129 to around 135 before the epilogue track. The vocal tracks paint the story of a nostalgic protagonist reminiscing about the good and bad times revolving around a love interest, and the instrumental tracks represent the passage of time between each chapter/encounter.
not the guy you'r responding to, but here are 2 mixes I made for a battle where I bang out around 25 songs in 15 minutes - using turntables, serato, and a bunch of my own edits...

Not really, it tracks the absolute position, so you'd need to generate one. Dunno if there are tools for that available.
Edit: nope, proprietary, and it's a tad complex. See: https://sourceforge.net/p/xwax/mailman/message/18321397/?SetFreedomCookie
Edit2: maybe there is a way by switching to relative mode. Don't use dvs, sorry.
KS link???
Edit: Found it for those interested
Double edit: It's over $4,000 that you need to back for a pair of these gloves!!!
on mac i like XLD best, it's free and updated often: https://sourceforge.net/projects/xld/
set your prefered output format, drag files to app and it will convert. you can set it to delete originals and replace them or keep the 24 bit files and have the new files go anywhere you like.
Have you ever tried IFTT?
Theres a recipe that does exactly that:
https://ifttt.com/recipes/152732-download-new-songs-you-like-to-one-drive (This saves to OneDrive)
https://ifttt.com/recipes/15575-soundcloud-fav-to-dropbox-folder-mp3-download-if-available-soundcloud-download-dropbox (this is for dropbox)
After you sign up to the service you can connect soundcloud and either Dropbox or Onedrive and as soon as you like a song on soundcloud it will import that song into your folder (as long as there's a free download link, doesn't work with links with hypeddit or similar services)
Assuming you run Windows just type Device Manager into the search bar.
Expand the Sound, Video, and Game Controller section to see which drivers are running at present. I had issues with two soundcards competing awhile back.
A quick Google search should yield some good how-to's on disabling drivers and the like.
You also might want to check out BlueScreenView, it's free and shows you what is the likely cause of the BSOAD if the error code is too vague.
If you're looking for something custom printed look into teespring or redbubble. I just looked through teespring's products and they have this "slouchy tee" (example) which i'm assuming is loose enough to not retain heat. (I've never ordered from teespring so I don't know for sure)
Redbubble is nice because they make everything real easy, but the shirts I've gotten from them tend to be on the thicker side, and honestly, they smell fucking awful for some reason until you wash them the first time
Well, a folder structure can hold a lot, the problem is to make it searchable. That's why I rename all my files to 'Artist - Songname - version' first using A Better Finder Rename ( http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/6322/a-better-finder-rename ).
Once that's done, I ran them through Mixed in Key configured to add 'Key - bpm -' to the beginning of the file name.
Then I can point Easyfind (great free little app) to my Dj music folder and search by key or name: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11076/easyfind. I can sort the results by name which will have the effect to also sort them by key and bpm (since that's how the filenames always start).
Daily, I just have Traktor set to import my Dj music folder contents, and do a consistency check once in a while to weed out the files I've moved or renamed. I search and sort in Trakor collection. But if that craps (and I've been bitten in the past too, hence why I do all this), I have another way to get immediately to my files.
i've recommended these Ministry of Sound compilations to other non-hiphop DJs before; it's an unmixed selection of big, dancefloor-friendly tracks from the last three decades. (I think they're up to vol. 4 now).
