Also has a lot of other stems and DI's in it.
I think it's /u/Masoo2 drive.
Misha said in an Ask.FM question that Spencer's priority is still Periphery and he will only be a studio member for From First to Last.

My few friends on there always have great recommendations.
Edit: add me as a friend. Always looking for more suggestions.
It was a bit tricky in places, I've pushed the guitars parts between various different tracks for more concise rhythm and leads; two rhythms on each side now, mostly double-tracked, sometimes pushed down an octave or two to beef-out the sound a bit.
I certainly don't think it sounds as shiny as the original rendition; it's only a very quick mix and such after all, but it's still kinda neat, if messy in places.
I do all my mastering within Synthfont while I'm writing the song. For every little part I write in guitar pro I will export it into synthfont to listen to it properly, then possibly adjust patches, levels, pan, or maybe duplicate a track so I can play it with more than one patch at once. After that I just use an online audio converter to get a 192kbps mp3 version after it leaves synthfont as a .wav. Thats my whole production process.
/u/TylerMayng /u/mcfluffertits Finally got them all uploaded to One Drive, including a quick mediocre cover of Pulse by Elitist that I just made
Like I said before, if anyone of them have passwords try Wilding Studios
Oh yeah it is, sorry my mistake. I just discovered this song today and for some reason I didn't even consider that possibility.

you can at least hear a 30 second preview on amazon uk
Thankfully, Ibanez makes 8-string guitars in the lower price range (at least in comparison to how expensive ESP guitars get).

Though there are also people who managed to djent with a Strat. Really, all you need are thicker strings to get you started if you can't afford a new guitar. Of course, you still need the equipment necessary to get the right tone.
hahaha. Me either. As the title suggests, I sort of didn't give a fuck about limits. That will continue to be a thing for this album. Plus I'm not really a guitarist, but a keyboardist! Hence the insane fret fingerings in the GP file.
Here is my shot at a guitar mix via synthfont.. Nowhere near as meaty as yours, but hey...
EDIT: yeah, I just remembered that there are parts that call for a whole-step bend on the 29th fret. Good luck to anyone who attempts to play this.

Nice cover! One suggestion I'd like to make is practicing to a metronome. The notes are there, but certain parts are being rushed. Practicing it to a click will definitely tighten things up.
As for your tone, there's endless post-processing that can be done to get it to sound the way you want, but some suggestions I see made frequently are: boost the mids and roll back the treble/bass slightly, multiple (2-3) EQs involving some combination of high-pass/low-pass filters and general shaping of the tone, use a compressor, noise gate(s), and most importantly don't overdo the gain! It's really easy to go too high on the gain, especially with the LePou VSTs (naturally quite gain-y), but I've found that rolling it back improves the clarity of your tone, particularly on the low end where it's easy for things to get muddy quickly. Here's a tone test I did recently with a bit of a Vildhjarta song; it's a softer part, but the tone I was playing around with incorporates pretty much all of the ideas listed above, and in fact uses one of the LePou VSTs as the head.
Out of curiosity, what is your guitar setup like? Specifically string gauge and pickups. Even though virtualization of amps makes getting the tone you want easier, your hardware is still important!
Again, excellent job! Great choice of a cover too. :)

Well, I found this one here for £275 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/360360818244633/?ref=messenger_banner
That's an RG8 with EMG pups. Is this too good to be true? It's a five hour drive there too, debating it. My friends are telling me it's complete lunacy, but I'm not so sure
There are a lot of influences, but you can definitely hear Meshuggah and Vildhjarta
A lot of them work with graphic artists or designers that they know or live near. I suspect they program the visualizers with software like the Jitter package for Max/MSP. That software is pretty powerful but as a visual programming language is easy to use even for coding noobs.
I'm sorry man but fuck ultimate guitar. Their website has really gone down hill. I prefer using Songsterr. Here is the songsterr link.
As is mentioned in another post, use notepad to open these, and keep in mind that they were written for a computer to play for fun. I only sometimes cared that hands could play a track. Don't feel like you need to preserve my fingerings--some are downright impossible. But everything is there (except drums)
I realize that my comment is a bit late, but I'd recommend anything from Misha Mansoor aka Bulb aka the primary guitarist for Periphery. He has an incredible amount of demos and unreleased music on his sound click. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=147108
I mean, this is a great track, but "Rare"? Most of his demos from before Periphery released their first album are still up on his Soundclick: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=147108
I guess I've taken it for granted since I've always had his demos. I mean, look up his stuff on any torrent search site, and you'll get pretty much everything he has ever released.
Now if I could get the short-lived Casey Sabol Letter Experiment clip from just before he quit......
Yes this is with the Ordinator. Here is Bulb's sound click, where he would upload all of his demos, most recorded with Jake Bowen and Travis Orbin: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=147108
Most of the first album and half of the second are all direct from Misha's demos that he composed between 2006-2008. There is some true gold here. I am not certain if you know much about Periphery's history, but they have been through many singers and swap-out band members ( Misha was originally the drummer). There are a few variations of The Walk, Icarus Lives, and Letter Experiment with completely different arrangements and sounds.
TL;DR: I put my pants on one leg at a time, except when my pants are on, I make Gold Records! -- Misha
All of this.

I love demos and work in progress clips and hearing the ideas come to life and can only hope the band chooses to share more of them in the future.
That's pretty awesome. I didn't know Tom could sing.
In the future if you link the full youtube url instead of the short url (youtu.be) it will have a little box where people can play it inside of reddit instead of having it take them to the youtube page.
Edit, found Bulbs, soundclick where you can download this

ehhh that's a leap. Seeing as this post is about Veil of Maya, Marc is Axe to FOH now, no cabs at all. As mentioned already Periphery does this as does the faceless. The Safety Fire didn't have their cabs when I saw them in the states.I also believe Tesseract is included in this no cab list. It's just an easier way of doing things these days, also it's easier to mix, see this: http://ask.fm/MishaPeriphery/answer/106128994283
We get you are trying to prove a point about cupping the mic but "Sorry man, no one in the Djent or Metalcore genres or any like use an axe-fx direct into a board... always an amp/cab combo." is just wrong
Maybe it's the additional string buzz that can be muted with a fretwrap? My reaper is coming in the mail tomorrow, but in advance I bought this because I know I'll be accidentally knocking other strings and have heard these help. Also a cut-off sock will probably do the same trick haha
I actually just tuned to drop F# on mine.
This is the string set I got, left off the high .010
27" scale. Tension is on the tighter end for me, but I play a lot of stuff tuned down to E as well, and honestly I prefer more tension for djentier stuff, can pick harder and get that snappy/sharper sound.
I can't imagine it's particularly hard. Find something long and stick-like with a reasonable amount of strength. Get yourself a tuner, a nut, a bridge and a pickup and something to wire the pickup in. Use a heavy gauge string, like .80+.
It's the sort of thing you just have to kinda put together yourself and see how it goes, because each thing would be different.
I ended up purchasing it via Amazon mp3 myself (this was about 3 years ago). Here's the link via Amazon. Unless it isn't available in your country.
Also, if you haven't already checked it out, look at John Browne's Flux Conduct - Qatsi; it's in the same vein but with more of his straight forward ideas and some new ones you might have not heard yet.
Hope this helps in some way!
I've got some Ultrasone HFi-780s. I love them so much. If you are looking for purely neutral these aren't the ones you want but I've found them insanely good for modern metal/djent particularly the low-end reproduction (and orchestral stuff if you're interested because I love the depth they have). They took a while to break in as far as some sibilance in the high end but once they mellowed out a bit I loved them even more. I'd say they are worth a look.
