In “On Writing,” Stephen King talks about the moment he realized he had a drug/alcohol problem and his reaction being “Oh, man, I’d better not let anyone find out about this.” (I’m paraphrasing.) Sometimes people with substance abuse problems, particularly people in the public eye, will go to herculean lengths to keep them a secret. That may be the case here.

I found the parrot, if anyone wants one of their own.
I STRONGLY recommend against ANY free VPN. "If the product is free, you are the product". Any free VPN is 100% logging and selling your data for their profit.
That being said, I use ExpressVPN and it's a truly simple and unintrusive app for both PC and mobile.
Good question because of two things:
it's like John Mulaney telling about how you can't get lost in New York
it lets me shout the praises of CityMapper.
Oxford Circus is on the Central Line (coloured red). Stratford in East London is on the Central Line. Take the Central Line eastbound nine stops. Half an hour later or so, get off at Stratford. Follow the signs t o walk to the stadium with everyone else wearing pinstripes. Easy!
Google is great, and it's giving different answers because it's literally updating you in real time and you juuust missed a Central Line train (and the next one is four minutes away). The computer is thinking, "OK, Central Line means it'll take 37 minutes, deviate to the Victoria Line and change at Highbury & Islington"!
There is an app on the Google Play store called "Pro Baseball Radio" where you can find radio streams for the games. Not all listeds treams for the Yankees work but I found the WUCS 97.9 FM stream to be reliably working.
Pretty sure it's not legal buuuuuuut if you want to do it, i'd suggest a VPN. I use Private Internet Access on a cheap desktop hooked to my TV, I use it as a plex server, to stream sports and to take to the high seas.

I’m sorry but it’s a disgrace that 20% of you would rather trade a currently producing member of our lineup who we have for 5 more years and during our World Series window.
Florial is a great prospect who is very far away. He will only he ready at the tail end of this current group of guys. Most importantly, lots of prospects are busts, even the best ones.
This is the definition of prospect hugging.
Forecast is actually favorable. Rain should be pretty light during game time
Assuming a standard 3 hour game, Weather Underground predicts less than .1 inches between 4 and 7
in case you missed it or want to spend some sexy time with it, the video of Gardy's game saving catching is posted on the Yankees Espn page.
Not OC. You can buy the download here if you want for $1.00 but I thought I'd save y'all the hassle.
They're saying ~50% chance of rain here and if it does rain only 0.02 of an inch will fall so I guess they'd play through that.
Heard this a few times in the sub, people not knowing. Is adroit not used much in American English?
Not trying to be elitist, just know that British and American English often differ in words used. As well as spelling obvs.
> brutally cold
It was been colder than the historical average for the past couple weeks but it's only been cold enough to complain about a few times.

Prepare your anus, winter is coming.
I read Whitey Ford's book last year about his opinion on all-time great Yankees, and it's not like the book contained any great analytical insights or anything - it was a book published in 2001 written by someone who played in the '50s and '60s; you aren't getting sabermetric-influenced statistics - but it was a cool book to read for some of the stories involving Whitey and other Yankee players from that period of time.
Might need to give it another look soon. It was 200 pages, technically, but there's a lot of pages that are either pictures or statistical profiles and I knocked it out in just one day.
I was using TunnelBear as a VPN this year. It's free up to like 500mb (monthly) of data but I was able to turn it off when the video loaded up and it would play as if the VPN was on, but it wasn't using the data anymore. Basically once establishes your location once it stops caring until you reload it.
I was also using SLING for YES last season. It was "alright" but it got the job done. The service as a whole isn't the worst but it's got it's fair share of problems.
You can also look for a free stream somewhere. /r/mlbstreams will have most if not all games available in some form. The quality is generally shitty and laggy and full of random popups (even with ad blockers), but I've never had a problem as far as malware is concerned (use at your own risk though).
You also might want to check out AcePlayer (some info can be found here. Basically it's the best quality you'll find for streaming live sports for free. You need a somewhat decent internet connection but unless you're living in Australia you should be fine. The one problem I have with Ace is that there isn't always a stream key for Yankee games. It tends to be stuff on major networks, but every now and then someone will post a Ace key for a Yankee game. I use Ace mostly for NFL streams.
Just get a VPN. I know it sounds difficult but it's really not at all. You can even configure it on the Router level so you can stream to a roku or similar streaming device. It's $5 or so a month. I like Private Internet Access, but there are lots of options out there.
It was kind of a big deal in NY. The first game played after 9/11 was in Queens, and the Mets rocked FDNY and NYPD caps for the rest of the season (and, as an aside to MLB, fuck them for banning that shit). For better or worse, the tradition of Kate Smith's rendition of, "God Bless America," was a direct result of 9/11 (but, if you want to see how that shit is done right, google Ronan Tynan).
Take the next half hour to watch this 30 For 30 on "The Pitch." Seriously, just do it. It tells the story way better than I could.
Damn it... I wanted to fap before the game.
I converted the image to a vector cutline. I do these at work, but can't really "sell" it due to trademark issues.
File is here: https://files.fm/u/mhsmm863#_
I'll make a print tomorrow, it's a pretty cool logo.
Reminder
Take the meetup survey! Come hang out with us and catch a game together. I'm probably going to close it next week to get everything sorted.

PM me with any questions.
Now let's all watch Pineda do something special!
Stay posted. Weather looks very bad with no break in the rain. Hopefully the Yankees will announce a postponement soon, rather than making you sit through a rain delay.
The weather forecast is ugly, but there looks to be room for a game. Definitely want to take a lead early in case it doesn't go all nine innings.
I bet these two teams do whatever it takes to play a game tonight. Neither one wants to use tomorrow's off day to play. The Yankees have to travel to New York tomorrow, and the Reds need to travel to San Francisco.
This seems like a good idea, but I think he'd probably run into a black out because of being in the viewing area, right? Another option would be to get Playstation Vue tho. Its base package is $30/month, and you can watch the YES network through it. Would need pretty good Internet for that too. It may not be what you're looking for, but it's an option.
Thanks 😁
I did spend a lot of time scouring the Internet for a font that almost exactly matched the original. I think I watched an entire World Series game while I was looking.
What program did you use to make yours?
I used GIMP.
EDIT: The font I used was Rajdhani Bold
I use Private Internet Access. I had a few issues when I first got it, but it was just because I needed to update the version (which you may have to do if you find the connection keeps failing). After that though, it worked great. You can choose where it routes through, and there's pretty minimal loss when it comes to loading times. And it syncs automatically with your iPhone if you use one (not sure about Android but I gotta think it's pretty much the same).
I'm out of market, but I use Private Internet Access to watch when they're playing the A's or when I want to watch a Giants or A's game. Would recommend! I get the same speed whether it's on or not -- and that's at 150Mbps down.
I use this in the UK, if you save Yankees as your favourite team, it gives you a load of stations. John and Suzyn seem to be on different channels each time though.
True...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.toddbrady.proBaseballRadio
There's this app too, I haven't used it this year but last year it worked really well. Lets you listen to any game for free. Not sure how they get away with it.
i think you are thinking of a different kind of rubber ball. they are identical to regular baseballs in weight and size, they are cork centered, wound, etc. it's just the covering is rubber/plastic, not leather.

Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/Rawlings-Official-League-Recreational-Baseball/dp/B000OQA3N4?th=1

If frazier lost the ball, which you can see in the video he does, and reaches down and grabs the first ball he sees then this could absolutely happen.
I keep refreshing. Forecast shows only ~15 to 30% chance of rain from 7 to 10 ish but then 60+% change after 10. So, unclear?
https://www.wunderground.com/hourly/us/ny/manhattan/40.75,-74.00/date/2021-7-17
Not sure what app you use, but the forecast is only calling for isolated/scattered thunderstorms all afternoon. In typical KC fashion, those storms can either be 15 minute showers or 2 hour deluges. We just won't know until the cells form.
There doesn't seem to be a very good chance of playing on Saturday or Sunday. It would really suck to burn a late season off day to come back to Detroit to play a double header.
Looking at the radar, it doesn't look that good to get this game in: https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/USNY0996:1:US?layer=radar
Have they given any start time?
Boomer appeared on the Thuzio Live & Unfiltered podcast out today and shares some great memories from his Perfect Game: https://www.buzzsprout.com/995044/3935102-david-wells-shares-emotions-from-perfect-game-talks-being-a-rebel-mlb-career
FWIW, Weatherbug and Accuweather are now both showing nothing until a chance of storms at 11. Dare we hope?
It was his call counter.

I had to jump through a handful of virtual hoops to watch this game. MLBtv blows. FireTV blows and ExpressVPN blows. Each entity let me down. This problem probanly only applies to me but if for some fucked up reason you have the same exact problem as me, let me know.
J Kenji Lopez says this one and he has never steered me wrong - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001VQIP4?tag=serieats-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1&ascsubtag=5123492%7Cne8212c747e6d48a8b251e5a2f987c6ec15
We use from Apple Tv, Ipad, Laptop, and sometimes iphone. And I picked Canada just on a whim. Was just a random pick that was far from Atlanta. The distance shouldn't matter so much as long as it's easily routable from the US. When we have to use the VPN we can only use it through the ipad or MacbookPro with the ExpressVPN client installed. Not sure if the AppleTV can be set to use VPN. I could use my laptop and pipe the HDMI to my main TV and watch that way if I needed to, but it's easier (lazier) to just watch it on the small screen.
Agreed with the above. Wash on cold, gentle cycle. You could also buy some wash bags for extra peace of mind.
And line dry, never in the dryer.
I've been using Private Internet Access

Notice it clears up starting around 12:30 through 1:30.
There's about a 2-3 hour window to get in most of this game.
at least on accuweather it's projected to rain for most of the rest of the night. nothing to really signal it'll clear up enough to play
Accuweather says heavy rain until 7:15pm and then no precipitation the rest of the night.
Why the fuck do you call it off in advance when that's the weather forecast?
Worse case you delay it an hour then start around 8:30pm.

The yankees had to know. I've been talking about the Wednesday rainout for 2 days now.
I use the same setup to watch my games (but use Mullvad VPN). I've noticed if you try to sign in with the VPN on it will auto log out and act buggy. What I usually do is go into the app, verify I'm signed in and try to watch a game. After I get the blackout message, restart Google TV through settings, turn on VPN to Toronto and try to watch the game. Usually that does the trick for me
I have 2 of these… One for the TV and one for charging phones/iPad/etc… Great price on Amazon now, pretty sure I paid around $100 for each.
Pick up a used copy of Pinstripe Empire by Marty Appel. The history of the Yankees from the early 1900s Highlanders through the Derek Jeter years. A must read for Baseball and Yankee fans, plus those interested in NYC history.
Pinstripe Empire: The New York Yankees from Before the Babe to After the Boss https://www.amazon.com/dp/1608194922/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_9HA434GFZN31NY504SQZ
It's a slight investment but maybe look into getting him a vpn depending on what he watches it on. May not be too doable on a TV, at least to set up remotely, but if he has a tablet or laptop or whatever it's easy as all hell. I finally got NordVPN to avoid blackouts, it was $80 for two years with a promo code, which is worth it for me. May be able to find cheaper ones or ones with a six month plan or whatever. If he's blacked out in all orioles games he's missing over 10% of the season, a few extra bucks might be worth it.
A VPN is software that changes your geolocation, you can download a client such as Nord VPN, Private Internet Access, etc. or add one as a plugin to your browser and it will let you change your location as well. These things allow you to bypass blackouts like what is imposing right now.
Weird. I'm in NYC but tried NordVPN servers in Canada, Miami, CA, and a whole bunch of other places and was getting blackout notices from . The night before I was able to watch the 1st game of the series on with Nord set to Canada. Any thoughts?
I got Nord VPN. 70 bucks for 2 years. I'll sign up for the MLB deal when it comes out this week and also give my dad's YES account a try. For the record, I'd still rather just pay YES but maybe this is just a super clever referral program for NordVPN. I just installed NordVPN directly on the Google TV. Dead simple to use. I could already see that it would work bc I connected to a Canada server and then launched YT TV which I know isn't available there. As expected, YT TV didn't work. As soon as I disconnected it, YT TV worked again.
app with a VPN like IPVanish or Nord that’s easy enough to install and run.
It’s beyond frustrating how they make it to watch. Even when YES was on the streaming services I was on there would be games that wouldn’t be on YES that we didn’t get. I get that its a business but ffs, there should be absolutely no reason if a fan is willing to pay $100+ a year they can’t watch every game for their team without blackout.
I like my NordVPN. Speed is fine and has quick connect or custom location connection options. I use it to download a lot of torrents and get around blackout restrictions and have never had a problem. I think I did the $100ish for the year subscription
Weather.com forecast right now for Saturday in the Bronx is at 97 (it was at 98 when I posted originally) with 59% humidity and an excessive heat watch in effect. And of course, that doesn't count the heat index/'feels like' temp. That's not "excellent weather" for *anything*.

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably go, but it's definitely going to be brutal.
Typically they don't announce the postponement until about 5–6pm.
But use this to help make your decision https://weather.com/weather/radar/interactive/l/5144ef8667623d325ad0348a16e3d35e19ec4fa35815e3d82eb491f26d1179e2?layer=radar
This is showing showers rain start right at gametime
They should just rain out tonight's game and pay a double header tomorrow rather than trying to get it in.
Update: This radio feed for the railrider games does work. Everyone tune in to support our boys Higgy and Vic Valera!
Not sure if it will get blacked out or not around first pitch, but at least as of now this radio feed of the railrider's one game play off game is live.
No, baseline does not mean floor. Baseline means the starting point used in comparisons. If the starting point was 6 years, the Yankees offer of 5 does not change the baseline. Whether the baseline was manufactured by his agent or not doesn't change that it was the baseline. They weren't taking less than 6 years.
And I fully admit the risk in signing Corbin. But the upside is you get a top-end starter for 5+ years. You're not getting that from Happ or Keuckel even if they win Cy Youngs next year.
Anyone do the Spotify 2019 Wrap yet? They did the entire decade in review this time which is really cool!
From 2014 to 2019 Yellowcard was my #1 artist every year (not ashamed to admit it either, fucking love them), except 2018 when the White Stripes snuck out the top spot. In 2012 and 2013 it was Drake because I was 19/20, in college, and apparently had no interest in listening to good music lol. Interestingly enough, none of my top artists ever also had my top song for that year.
My time listening to music this year was almost equal to the last 3 years put together too. Almost 60k minutes this year, 30k last year, and ~15k in 2017 and 2016 each.
I was able to use my iPhone with NordVPN but it all stopped working. I tried j locator at the beginning of the year and they told me their mlb tv servers were down but I never tried again. Might try it next year. Thanks for the help
https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/zombie-fires-erupt-in-arctic/749130
Now, if you only read the headline that could mean two things. Either smart zombies capable of creating fires are living in the artic or the fires themselves are zombies.
It's prime 2020 headline either way. Additionally, it having zombie in a headline gets me one step closer to bingo. Now I just need NEO in like september and I'm done.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new-york/10007/hourly-weather-forecast/349727
Looks like the heavy rain is gonna come around 5pm, and will pretty much be around for the rest of the night. I don't think they will play tonight
Post these shittens to help Chris Gittens.
I use YouTube TV but I’m located in NYC. I love the service and I basically record every Yankee game with their unlimited DVR so I can watch them whenever I want.
Not sure if it’ll be available in Kentucky, but you can check by inputting a zip code here: https://tv.youtube.com/welcome/
Since you’re not in the NYC area maybe a MLB.tv subscription would work?
You mentioned you're out of NY, so that makes sense why you would lose it. It's still on the Youtube TV Welcome page. I would have your cousin login to his account and verify the channel is still selected in his channel list.
It was the blue package. It's not listed on the site but it should still be the case since I have the same package.
Edit: go here: https://www.sling.com/service
In the right corner, click 'Show My Available Sports Networks' and enter your address
I use Sling, it's similar to Netflix in a way, but it has "channels". Live TV with little "on demand" but it's alright. I really only use it for YES and some other live sports (it has FS1, TBS, TNT, and a bunch of other stuff). There are two versions though, an ESPN package (does NOT include YES), or the Fox Sports package (which includes YES).
It's definitely worth it if you want to rid yourself of cable. Other than that, it's good for what it does and not that much more.
I started watching the 2003 ALCS game 7 to fill this void (I'm at work and needed background noise)

Welcome! Hope you have fun, my friend. I'm from Mexico and a about three or four years ago I decided to get deeper into this sport as well. This book helped me a lot to understand concepts and rules: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000SEFHYM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_RQFME0W5GE4WWMV0PQCD
There are some concepts that are not up to date, book needs to be revises by the author, but it does help a lot. Hope it helps you as well if you decide to go for it.
I do, I live in Buffalo. I bought a TV that has Amazon's FireTV preinstalled. For some reason it isn't playing nice with ExpressVPN. I can watch games outside the blackout range. But I can't watch Yankees games.
I hooked up my Google TV with Chromecast dongle and it's working. That is the particular work around at the moment.
I realize most of you are in NYC and I'm jealous but I love my small ass city and YouTube TV, Hulu TV and other streaming apps aren't carrying YES Network.
I have previously you know used less legal ways to watch but I get MLBtv with my TMobile account.
Put in the bottom of your bag, fill with rum, buy a big coke.
Maybe something like this? Hidden under your shirt or something? Probably still too big.
Or this Oscar the Grouch costume. With a trashtros shirt over it?
Tried ProtonVPN? They have a free version that's pretty good. Usually capped at ~30mbps but games are only ~7mpbs so plenty of headroom.
Which VPN is causing issues? Should probably let the people know so they can avoid it!
Ah you onow what I lie. I actually did get this one pack. It was like 6 or so retro cards and one of them was literally a bale of hay I shit you not lol. One of them was a cool Reggie Jackson rocking some shades though so it made up for it.

If you have the space and money, then Amazon sells these foldable exercise bikes for like $120-200. Mine has been a lifesaver for me so far this winter.
Don't forget to also start working in resistance/weightlifting as well. You don't want to lose muscle while you lose weight.
along with everything else they offer for $99/year by using the Canadian feed. DAZN recognizes PIA as a VPN and blocks access though.
Private Internet Access. Best bang for the buck, I believe. Some sites (Very few sites, in my experience) that require local access might block the IP addresses used by VPN services which would prevent you from using this workaround successfully. I do not know whether is one such site. It is still worth giving it a shot and still a worthwhile expense because is a good idea to use a VPN whenever connecting to the internet (I have mine set to start when Windows starts. I just leave it running in the background at all times except whenever I encounter something that requires me to use my ISP-given IP address and not my VPN IP address. In that case, it is as simple as two-clicks to temporarily and instantly turn off my VPN, and just as easy and fast to enable it again). In other words, even if blocks Private Internet Access IPs (and I would be shocked if they do), it is still a good thing to have a VPN running.
Private Internet Access is very affordable. You can try the one-month/per-month membership for $10. If it all works out for you, I recommend going with the two-year membership ($70) which gives you two free months (24 + 2) and comes out to something around $2.65 per month.
I use Windscribe only because my buddy sent me a promo offer a few years ago. No complaints, service works nicely.
Before that i used 'BTGuard' also at the recommendation of a friend. They worked well too. Simple instructions and interface.
Heads up, I just found one for like $10 on Amazon. It's real cheap, but it'll do for me lol. Still wish the Yanks made an official high quality one though.
Need some help buying baseballs, for any current players/coaches
I want to get my little brother a brand new bucket of baseballs for christmas. He's 16 and hits in our cage religiously, multiple times a week. We've been using the same beat up bucket of balls for like the last 10+ years. So I thought this would be a solid gift to upgrade them.
Can anyone tell me if these Wilson balls are any good? I don't want to get crappy plastic balls or cheapo hard balls. I want to get decent quality balls but at the same time I'm not trying to spend $200+ on Rawlings game balls lol. If the ones I linked are no good, any better recommendations?
To watch games on YES you can get with a VPN (Private Internet Access is my personal favorite). I have to use it when they play Boston because I refuse to watch NESN. The free route as others have said is /r/mlbstreams.
Depends on who you want. I love Age of Apocalypse. You could dig up the original Infinity Gauntlet series, I believe that's available in trade paperback.
If you can find a comic store they should have like 230 page books that are compressed comic series.
But if you go in theres these great mini runs that are only a few comics that range from dumb but funny or just weird. Like "Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe", or "Marvel Zombies"
I'm not actually mad about the Pats winning that game. They certainly did enough to win and it was nice to have a SB uncontestedly won by the team that played better yesterday unlike several of the last few SBs. That said, how the fuck are you gonna go out there and look like a HS team because the Pats defense played a simple cover 2 zone? Like shit, isn't McVay supposed to be some offensive-minded genius? And his team just eats a fat one because of a basic zone package? How fucking embarrassing and stereotypical for an LA team.
Other than that, got a bunch of KH3 in over the weekend--loving that game, though I probably should've just started on Proud Mode instead of Normal. I made a great Japanese Miso Curry from the recipe in this cookbook that I got for Chrismukkah. I highly recommend this book if you like cooking and like Japanese drunk food. And I spent a good chunk of time praying to my shrine of Rangers memorabilia that we don't trade Zuccarello.
I live in New England now and I use Private Internet Access(PIA) VPN to watch any games that we play against Boston. It is $39/yr and worth every cent. I use it for downloading torrents anonymously too.
All I do is turn the VPN on while loading the page the first time (I'm guessing this is the only time it checks your location), and then turn it off for the rest of the game. Worked perfectly for me for the last two seasons.
EDIT: I use Zenmate, haven't had any issues yet
