I'm sure they'll come right to his aid because they're not at all more aligned with the top pic than the bottom in this meme.
Some anarchist groups who also identify with antifascism use the circled A as a symbol for both anarchism and antifascism but other than that, antifa really is just the idea of opposing fascism, without any central organisation or symbol.

Yeah you got me there. It's not like an economics professor wrote a book about how debt grows faster than the growth of the economy and how debts have to be periodically forgiven with a jubilee or else civilization will collapse exactly like how the Roman empire did. Oh wait.

It is actually more like she is BEING A FASCIST here instead of "describing fascism". Hitler told the German people that Jews and communists were coming to take away their guns and free speech. Hitler promised to protect Germans from Jews and communists who would nationalize their property. Hitler succeeded because he promised to protect the German people FROM BIG COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT.
People in Nazi Germany were terrified of communist, totalitarian government, so they trusted Hitler to protect them from big government. Ironic, yes, the best fascist have used Libertarian propaganda to fool people into authoritarianism.

I read a really, really interesting book when I was in high school on the power of cognitive dissonance and I'd recommend it to anyone who's willing to read it because it really changed the way that I evaluate my own thought processes and how I perceive the world.
Mistakes Were Made (But not by me) by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson
I’ve mainly just picked this all up here and there, but I am very much looking forward to reading NYT editorial board member Jesse Wegman’s book-length case against the EC, the aptly-titled Let the People Pick the President . Coming out next March.
Edit: I know of Wegman through his advocacy for the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which is a fascinating attempt to render the EC useless without an amendment (by using states’ rights, which conservatives should love, right?). Definitely a rabbit hole of reading around that.
Recently I got a very interesting book called White Fragility by Robin D'Angelo. Now I do not live in the US, but I was horribly surprised how many points this book raises applied directly to me.
It isn’t necessarily a racist statement. This article explains why better than I can; while I understand it is the Huffington Post, it is consistent with what I learned in a political science class that I took in college. Black people are far more likely to end up in prison, and it has nothing to do with black people being more likely to commit crimes than white people.

Vaginal agenesis exists, so yes, there are cis women with "surgically implanted vaginas".
Well I'm not gonna resist that opportunity for self-promotion. Is that against the rules of this sub? I have no idea
Since everyone is saying everyone else is wrong, both you and /u/TheBlackBear are wrong (well, sort of). They (the party, not necessarily Republican voters) only care about two core things:
Not everyone in the party cares equally about these two things, but those are the two core drivers that the modern Republican party are built upon. Everything else-- including all the things that /u/TheBlackBear refers to, as well as the racism, homophobia, and misogyny-- follow from those core ideals.
I'm just reading the book Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation and it really does a good job of tracing both the history of white evangelical Christian nationalism and shows the effect that they have had and are having on our national policies. Their ultimate goal is to make the US a Christian theocracy. Taking America Back for God: Christian Nationalism in the United States is another good book on the subject.
While nothing these two books cover started with Trump (Jesus and John Wayne traces it's roots back to the Eisenhower administration), it's hard to truly understand the Trump presidency without understanding these forces. It's really far more terrifying then it even appears on the surface.
> There are genetic differences, of course
Yes, but it’s not in the way people think
Roughly translated by my partner who studied genetics, this means that there is more variation between people in one (fairly homogeneous) city than there is between the population of that city as a whole and the population of say Tokyo.
There is more variation between people from east Africa and west Africa than more or less anywhere else in the world.
As geneticists have been saying for years. Race is a social construct, not a biological one.
There's a book called...well the title is a word I'm not going to say but it's written by an African American Harvard professor, Randall Kennedy. I read it in college (PolySci major) and I think it's one of the best breakdowns of how one word has dehumanized and delegitimized African Americans for the past 150+ years.
Think about that for a moment: a word exists in our lexicon so vile, so egregious that, even though it's the title of a legitimate book that studies the origins of the word, I refuse to even type it.
If systemic racism doesn't exist then how can such a word exist?
I always thought of her as more weeb than Asian, and it's not as though she has an accent of any sort. Her concept art makes it seem possible she's intended to be Asian, though.
The same problem pops up with Mirage.
It's funny because Andrew Chael came out and actually shot down this ridiculous argument.
So yep, enjoy your downvote for not researching your stupid opinion. :)
No you’re just wrong. I’m sorry but men on average have 40% more upper body strength and 30% more lower body strength. At the top is where it really matters. With average people it’s easier for men and women to compete. And yes individuals have specific advantages - I did a dna test a while back and it turns out I actually build muscle better than the average person. That’s an innate advantage that I have over other people. I still couldn’t compete with most boys in high school - despite being in really good shape.
My SO of 8 years was almost an Olympic gymnast before an injury cut his career short. He trained with men and women and he’ll be the first one to tell you how strong a female gymnast can be (much stronger than the average man of that height). But he’s confirmed what I’ve always known based on scientific evidence and my own experiences: most men and women cannot compete fairly in a physical way.
My last comment was not to bring men down (male domestic abuse victims hardly ever report and don’t have enough shelters - it’s awful). My point was that biology does matter. I don’t think women are killed in domestic homicides the vast majority of the time because men are so much worse than women. I think it’s because men are almost always inherently physically stronger. And that stat is stunning - something like 90% of domestic homicide victims are women. It’s not even a close split. You’d think if women could compete physically with men then there wouldn’t be such a large statistical difference.
Source on strength differences:

The End of Policing by Alex S. Vitale > The problem is not overpolicing, it is policing itself. Why we need to defund the police and how we get there.
>Recent weeks have seen an explosion of protest against police brutality and repression. Among activists, journalists and politicians, the conversation about how to respond and improve policing has focused on accountability, diversity, training, and community relations. Unfortunately, these reforms will not produce results, either alone or in combination. The core of the problem must be addressed: the nature of modern policing itself.
>This book attempts to spark public discussion by revealing the tainted origins of modern policing as a tool of social control. It shows how the expansion of police authority is inconsistent with community empowerment, social justice— even public safety. Drawing on groundbreaking research from across the world, and covering virtually every area in the increasingly broad range of police work, Alex Vitale demonstrates how law enforcement has come to exacerbate the very problems it is supposed to solve.
>In contrast, there are places where the robust implementation of policing alternatives—such as legalization, restorative justice, and harm reduction—has led to a decrease in crime, spending, and injustice. The best solution to bad policing may be an end to policing.

Give them money. Experiments with basic income show an increase in life expectancy, happiness, reduction of stress, reduction of crime, etc. when you just give people money to live. And it saves money. Keeping poor people poor is actually really expensive.
A good book about it is Utopia for Realists.
Title: "Home Appraised With a Black Owner: $472,000. With a White Owner: $750,000."
"Last summer, Nathan Connolly and his wife, Shani Mott, welcomed an appraiser into their house in Baltimore, hoping to take advantage of historically low interest rates and refinance their mortgage.
They believed that their house — improved with a new $5,000 tankless water heater and $35,000 in other renovations — was worth much more than the $450,000 that they paid for it in 2017. Home prices have been on the rise nationwide since the pandemic; in Baltimore, they have gone up 42 percent in the past five years, according to Zillow.com.
But 20/20 Valuations, a Maryland appraisal company, put the home’s value at $472,000, and in turn, loanDepot, a mortgage lender, denied the couple a refinance loan."
literally got denied a refinance because of it
"Months after that first appraisal, the couple applied for another refinance loan, removed family photos and had a white male colleague — another Johns Hopkins professor — stand in for them. The second appraiser valued the house at $750,000."
Again though, this isn't "new" and has been reported on and studied quite a lot, especially in the past years.

Yup. I read a book chapter that dealt with this very topic, and the author said that—for Jesus’s audience—referring to a Good Samaritan would be like referring to Good Osama bin Laden. Like, that is how much Samaritans were hated.
I recommend this book. It is a historical, but not biblical, look back at Jesus life.

Remember that Jesus was poor and illiterate. Most of his original followers were also poor and illiterate. All we know of Jesus comes from Paul*, who never met him but wrote half the New Testament, and Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, who each wrote their versions with a specific audience in mind. AND the gospels have been revised to make them more cohesive. I honestly believe that Jesus was an extraordinary man. A man of his background made enough of a splash that he had to be killed. He must have been incredibly charismatic. However, I don’t believe that he had the foresight or resources to pull off the kind of scam that you’re suggesting against the religious leaders of his community and the actual Roman empire.
*Paul carefully crafted Christian doctrine to line up as much as possible with what we call the Old Testament. Paul had the background and education to do it. He is the true architect of Christianity as we know it today. He probably was sincere, but he’s the one who should be blamed for taking “love thy neighbor” and turning it into a global super weapon.

In Weimar Germany (between the empire and the Nazi regime) conservatives really, really hated the idea of the German communist party getting power. So much so that they were willing to work with actual Nazis to shut all liberals out of power, despite most moderate German conservatives not being antisemitic or interested in conquering Europe.
I find the similarity concerning.

There's a really interesting book by Jonathan Metzl, "https://www.amazon.com/Dying-Whiteness-Politics-Resentment-Heartland/dp/1541644972". It's about this very topic of white Americans voting against their interest due to the perception that equality and betterment mean something is being taken from them, and they'd rather vote for policies that hurt themselves instead of losing something to better others (which they won't lose anything, and benefit from the policies they vote against as well, hurting all sides).
> To be fair, if that’s the case, that’s pretty much what the gun nuts are claiming the amendment is for. “People should have guns so the government can’t oppress you.”
Not it’s not. It says the people should have the right to serve in their state militia, nothing more.
The language “Keep and bear arms” is solely used in the constitution and contemporary colonial law to describe military service, which is why the original draft of the second amendment had a conscientious objector clause. But the objector clause was removed because they feared the Quakers would succumb to mercenaries if they hired them instead of forming a civilian militia. That clause makes no sense if the second amendment was supposed to protect hunting or self-defense rights, because most Quakers of the time were fine with hunting and lethal self-defense.
According to the original intended plain text, the second amendment is an individuals right to military service, not an individual right to own a gun for self-defense, hunting, arms dealing, or gun collecting.
For example, DADT would have violated the Founder’s second amendment. Same with Trump’s trans ban. You don’t want to be ruled by a military you aren’t allowed to join. That’s tyrannical, which is why the Founder’s put it in the bill of rights.
You can read about it in the book The Second Amendment by Patrick J Charles
Paraphrasing Jonathan Haidt's book; People do actually value "do no harm" and "fairness" as principles, but these people value Justice (aka punishing / righting wrongs) more than they value "do no harm" / "fairness".
See, it's funny because conservatives also do this, just more effectively. None of them cried about politicizing tragedy when it was creating the DHS after 9/11, for example.

If you are disinterested enough that you won't consider the numerous explanations from TST's founders or its members because it doesn't align with your assessment of what a religion is, or what satanism is, then I suppose that we have reached an impasse.
If you do wish for clarification on the topic, the TST FAQ is a good place to start. If you are particularly ambitious, the academic study of TST which was conducted over a number of years with interviews with the founders as well as many members (current and former) is another good choice. If you have questions, r/SatanicTemple_Reddit is can be a good place to ask them, it is open to all varieties of satanism even if TST seems to be predominant.

What the fuck does that mean? Social constructs do have a lot of value, but why do you assume zimbabwe does not have that? If anything the global south has found itself increasingly held hostage to debt traps enforced by the IMF and the world bank. These countries are not under developed they are over exploited. The amount of "value" that zimbabwe contains in its borders is immense (although I think you just used that as a example of the whole global south) And the amount of "Value" that the west contains is directly proportional to the amount that they can steal from underdeveloped nation. And you want to lecture me about pyramid schemes?
The real value you are describing there is social interaction and co-existence. A community attempting to build something larger then themselves. When I see communities that are really trying to lower the barrier to the worldwide information exchange and trying to remove barriers to getting included in the global economy then the one I see right now with the greatest promise are crypto-currencies, with their quasi-pseudonyms nature and resistance to censorship, since they force a complete turnaround of the "surveillance capitalism" that was so confident it was the next stage of capitalism. Here's some details on the morality of Lee. It's actually pretty terrible compared to the revisionist history we hear, here are his thoughts on slavery:
> The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race, & I hope will prepare & lead them to better things. How long their subjugation may be necessary is known & ordered by a wise Merciful Providence. Their emancipation will sooner result from the mild & melting influence of Christianity, than the storms & tempests of fiery Controversy.

I'd argue that only a tiny minority of men -- rich men -- are excused routinely. Men face much larger sentences for the same crime a woman commits, so much so that the gender disparity in prisons is greater than the racial disparity. And starting as soon as preschool, boys are also disciplined much more harshly in school.
We don't really let boys off the hook as much as you think we do.

Sounds like Republicans are right. We need to prevent mass migration and also force immigrants to fully assimilate. Bring back the "great melting pot" and lose your foreign culture.
There’s a fantastic book that does a deep dive into this - how America was for government spending before the Civil Rights Act.
Heather McGhee The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together
You (meaning anyone reading this) might want to read this book (or others making this similar argument). Obviously I am not expecting anyone to read. The author also summarizes this in lecturea found on youtubes, and there are review articles.

If you're interested in reading about people's thoughts in the leadup to Nazi Germany, I'd strongly recommend They Thought They Were Free: The Germans 1933-45 by Milton Mayer.
It's based on interviews with 10 people from various socio-economic positions that lived in Germany at the time.
It's not about values. I don't agree with requiring volunteer work. That would be conservative values. You should work to make the world the way you want. However, you also need to learn to accept what you cannot change. Only YOU can choose to look at it differently for YOUR OWN comfort. No one is in control of your happiness but you. I used to think and feel the same way you did in this regard. I read a book from Deepak Chopra called Seven Spiritual Laws for Success. It helped me have a better understanding in life, and helped me identify issues in my life that could be handled better. That was 10 years ago, anyways, I don't have all the answers, but here is a link to the book. If you want, I would even gift one to you. https://www.amazon.com/Seven-Spiritual-Laws-Success-Pocketbook/dp/1878424718

I get it I am just some asshole on the internet, but my intentions are good here.
In the Illuminatus! trilogy, they occasionally cut to Jesus talking to his disciples and saying "Don't write this part down". Near the end of the third book, they finally reveal what his super-secret teaching is: he's showing them how to play Bingo.
It's like Donald Trump Junior and his book "Triggered."
The poor design of the cover just has his face with TRIGGERED under it, making it look like he's the one who is triggered.
I'm sadly not sure. It was a random library grab that I didn't expect to really read, much less enjoy so much. I'm gonna guess America's Women by Gail Collins since I remember some sort of flag on the cover, but no promises.
You really can't beat "The Oxford Study Bible," in my estimation. Used it as a companion when I took a couple courses on the Tanakh and the New Testament. Also includes the apocrypha.
During the Cold War, there were numerous authors who made claims that Marx was racist. Here are some examples I can find:
https://www.amazon.com/Karl-Marx-racist-Nathaniel-Weyl/dp/0870004484
https://www.jstor.org/stable/41035216?seq=1
Regardless, we need to be careful what are the intents here. Many of them want to paint that "Socialism is evil", that is "Marx was racist so therefore his idea of workers owning the production must be wrong too" or shit like that. A recent example, it's like what happened to George Floyd, many people will point out that "George Floyd did this and that so blacks' lives obviously don't matter" and so on...
I'm referring to the basis of political theory; this was my text: https://www.amazon.com/About-Philosophy-11th-Robert-Wolff/dp/0205194125 Wolff does a great job of breaking everything down to their constituent parts. A good lit book isn't necessary, just read the highlights by John Locke, Jefferson, Hamilton, and even some modern views like MLK (I highly recommend his "Letter from Birmingham Jail"). Malcom X had some very powerful rhetoric too. Churchill and several of the WWII leaders Autobiographies are great lenses to look at some of the different political ideologies and how they shaped the 20th century.
> Yeah, I think you found your problem. The bulk of a good Philosophy class is on Enlightenment and Politic
Sorry, but I couldn't find a book by the title "Enlightenment and Politic" on google. Are you referring to maybe this book or this article?
"Facts" is a funny way to describe misleading and interpretations of statistics. There are many ways that data can be analyzed and that's certainly one way, but it definitely isn't the only way. You're also inferring that it's a natural state, and not something that can be changed. It may even be natural, but that certainly doesn't imply that it's inevitable.
Here's a book you should read to understand a little bit of what I'm talking about:
27 top psychiatrists and other mental health experts have diagnosed Trump as a psychopath, a narcissist, and a danger to society:

Of course, so he recommended an algae-based supplement containing omega 3 and 6, and DHA (fun fact, fish oil is high in these nutrients due to fish consuming the algae, vegan versions just skip the fish conduit and add linseed oil) I buy this brand in Australia https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/98562/healthy-care-pure-vegan-omega-3-6-9-60-capsules
But basically something like this, as long as it includes omega 3,6, and the DHA (this is in Australian currency, not US) https://www.amazon.com.au/Vegan-Omega-Softgels-Essential-Supplements/dp/B07GPXWLH9/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=vegan+omega+3+6+9+dha+epa&qid=1613552849&refinements=p_36%3A5355411051&rnid=5355409051&s=health&sprefix=veg...
It also has cleared up my skin a bit, added bonus!
not sure why you're getting downvoted. A few DJi with drop kits attached carrying standard issue M67 grenades will wreck any encounter.
I, unironically, despise the Santa thing. Like, I'm ok with the capitalist iconography and the "In Santa We Trust" money-themed chocolate bars and shit.
But I hate the, "It doesn't hurt anybody to add a little magic to the season." attitude.
Yes it does! There is no magic, only lies. And it encourages magical thinking. There is wonder and beauty in the world, we don't have to make it up.
