I just read the article and I want to go back to bed: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/07/we-need-new-science-progress/594946/
Peak liberal ideology right here, folks
Edit: I just looked up the co-authors and found that one of them, Tyler Cowan, is the author of a book titled The Great Stagnation: How America Ate All The Low-Hanging Fruit of Modern History, Got Sick, and Will (Eventually) Feel Better.
Cowan's fundamental argument is that America's astronomical wealth rests on certain forms of """low-hanging fruit"""" such as """free land""" (which, he generously notes, "was often stolen from Native Americans, one should not forget) and that the benefits of that """low-hanging fruit""" have now ceased helping deliver the same rate of exploitation as it used to.
Simply put, his argument vindicates Marx's argument about the falling rate of profit, and this article with his co-author Patrick Collison is really about how to grasp this pseudo-object called "progress" in order to return us to past rates of profitability.
In conclusion: these fuckin liberals will drive a comrade to drink
Edit 2: This has to be one of the saddest sentences I've ever read lol:
>Along the cultural dimension, the artists of Renaissance Florence enriched the heritage of all humankind, and in the process created the masterworks that are still the lifeblood of the local economy.
Let's translate some of his doublespeak
>I have psychotic stalkers who have been threatening to murder my family for years
"Leftists keep speaking ill of cops and my dad is a cop"
>Yeah, more fake screenshots
"Fake news!"
>d--b shit that people merely disagree with me about.
I.e. his liberal views
>Oh no, I have different opinions on violence and free speech than other people, I'm Hitler now.
"I like cops and capitalism isn't that bad and fascists should be able to march freely"
>I had no idea that person was identifying as trans because until recently they referred to themselves as a cis man.
"Misgendering them was fun but now that people are calling me on it I'm going to claim ignorance lol. Also make up a bunch of lies about them in the process."
>They (raddle.me) openly tried to crowdfund my doxx and murder
"the person I just misgendered (lol) talked about how I doxxed them and gave the doxx to fascists, who then tried to get them fired lol. So I'll accuse them of doing what I did to poison the well."
Holy crap its real:
>Are multi-national corporations laying the groundwork for international socialism?
>For the left and the right, major multinational companies are held up as the the ultimate expressions of free market competition. Their remarkable success vindicates the old idea that our modern societies are too large, too complex and difficult, to be subjected to a plan. And yet, as Leigh Phillips and Michal Rozworski argue, late capitalism already operates by central planning. The sheer economic weight of multinational, corporate giants means that the decision making of its owners decides the fate of virtually everyone else downstream of them, shaping the fortunes of much of the world. Not only is planning possible, we already have it. Except all the power is concentrated in the hands of a selfish few.
>Against the dictatorship of capital, The People's Republic of Walmart is a clarion call for a return to collective decision making in all matters economic. With the rise of new computational systems and new capacities for massive, collective enterprises, democratically organizing the economic in the interest of human need rather than in the interests of profit is as great as it ever has been.
>About the Author
>Leigh Philips is a science writer and EU affairs journalist. He is the author of Austerity Ecology & the Collapse-Porn Addicts.
>Michal Rozworski is a Toronto-based union researcher and writer. He blogs at Political Eh-conomy and has been published in Jacobin, Ricochet, The Toronto Star, and Briarpatch Magazine.
Doesn't look that bad.....
How wholesome, I wonder if their history of the pledge of allegiance will include pictures of the Bellamy Salute to help understand the fascist nature of making children fucking pledge loyalty to the state or its flag ?
> Nothing has the server capacity with a competitive business model to enable it, so probably never. Anything that did appear would need immense investment with no guarantee of return.
Unless they remove those requirements from the equation using a federated P2P system like https://joinpeertube.org/en/
Smith didn't express anti-capitalist views. Chomsky is taking that bit a little too far. In The Wealth of Nations, he's clearly mounting support for a capitalist system. His argument though is that if left alone, it would immiserate the working class and so the government should have programs in place to prevent this.
Thats no more anti-capitalist than FDR or something that Bill Gates or Warren Buffet would say. If Smith were offering up anti-capitalist arguments, Marx wouldnt have used his ideas as a basis for critique in Capital. That's basically what Capital is, is a reply to Smith and Ricardo.
There are actually many edited variants of this one, but the "justice" one is usually indeed a lack of fence.
It is also often named "liberation" instead of "justice"
The version here also add an additionnal step "Reality" that could very easily be renamed as "capitalism"
Oooooh boy! The Krassensteins are these two brothers who became icons of #theresistance.
They became twitter famous for being Trump responders. Every time he would tweet they'd try and be the first to hit back with a quip, so they'd be the top of the replies/comments.
There's Brian and there's Ed. They both also post videos of themselves working out, doing backflips and throwing karate kicks.
And before they became famous for anti-trump tweets, they were online "entrepreneurs", aka scam artists. They specialized in running Ponzi schemes, distributing pirated content, stealing domain names ... they've run at least 100 internet scam websites.
Then they wrote a children's book called How the People Trumped Ronald Plump.
The hero is a very sexy shirtless Robert Mueller
But really, Mr Chapo can explain them far better than I ever could
I'm reading Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine" right now and it's surreal reading about Milton Friedman and the Chicago School, since I used to be one of his followers. It is astounding how much information is simply withheld or ignored in the materials produced by these right wing "think" tanks and "universities" - it makes me angry every time I learn something new, honestly, because I have a renewed sense of being lied to.
To see others spouting this nonsense is very difficult for me, because I know they've been lied to and made to feel like they can only trust their neoliberal / fascist "news" sources. It's not just ideology, it's brainwashing. They don't know they're members of a cult, with the "free market capitalism" as their god. I wish I could help them. Having been there myself, it's simply painful to watch.
That's the only thing he said with a morsel of truth behind it:
https://raddle.me/f/lobby/561/comment/576
But of course he blows it completely out of proportion in typical Prince_Copfucker manner. When I said 'gofundme' I was clearly joking.
Jesuit school made me a Marxist, conrad
EDIT: as in, they taught me
EDIT 2: Gotta rep for the Jesuit comrades, y'all. Liberation Theology can be so lit. http://www.encyclopedia.com/philosophy-and-religion/christianity/roman-catholic-and-orthodox-churches-general-terms-and-20
You should see what they done to Matt Bruenig. He called Neera Tanden, a Clintonite who suggested bombing Libya and making them pay for it with all their oil money, a scumbag. So high-profile Clinton supporters snitched to one of his bosses and got him fired. Now the Clinton sycophants of lower prominence are carrying on their work, trying to smear him as some misogynist, racist shithead who commanded his "Dudebro Army" to attack people at his behest.
They're absolutely monstrous people who are happy to look the other way when people are getting bombed by drones because of policies they support, but don't you dare call them mean names. Their calculated callousness is nauseating.
I am looking out at this and have seen DemSoc01 say
>I condemn all r*pe jokes....FinnBol should never have taken part in that.
as well as
>All r*pe "jokes" are disgusting.
Serious question, when did DemocraticSocialist01 defend FinnBol for what he did here? I'm already disgusted enough at what FinnBol did, and it would be a real shame to see DemSoc01 defending this as well. It was really upsetting when the hbomberguy drama came out awhile back and I was too disgusted to watch his videos anymore, and it would be a real goddamn shame to find my two of my favorite leftist content creators (FinBol being my long time favorite, DemSoc01 being my second favorite) doing some very questionable things.
I found pretty much all of my favorite leftist content creators through FinBol and this entire situation is very upsetting to me in so many ways.
Neoliberalism is the bee's knees, what are you talking about my fellow millennial? Did you make a bad investment or something?
Woo Wall Street!!!!!! The Wealth of Nations!!!!!!!!! John D. Rockefeller!!!!! Hillary Clinton is bae, slay queen !!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T FORGET TO VOTE DEMOCRAT hahaha supply and demand
The exchange went quite a bit differently than he recounted it (surprise!). In fact, he only had two posts in /r/FULLCOMMUNISM:
>This will be worth every downvote. How's that communism working out for the Soviet Union? Oh wait, they crashed hard, fell apart, and are now capitalists too. I'm sure Lenin is oh so proud of him though.
and >We are talking about The Communist Party of the Soviet Union ya? That was their official fucking name. http://www.britannica.com/topic/Communist-Party-of-the-Soviet-Union I didn't use Wikipedia to prevent the argument of it not being a credible source.
Like... yeah, okay. You sure got us, asshole!

>the entire premise that allowing free enterprise is great for a nation
It's not really about that per se but rather about productive relations and the production of value. He does touch on taxation and the common weal in Book V of The Wealth of Nations, however, saying that
>The subjects of every state ought to contribute toward the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state. The expense of government to the individuals of a great nation is lke the expense management to the joint tenants of a great estate, who are all obliged to contribute in proportion to their respective interests in the estate.
It's also crucial to note with Smith that he always assumes his political economy is for the benefit of the public good. He only really considers the money of the wealthy in respect of its public uses.
The whole of The Wealth of Nations also rests on Smith's philosophical anthropology, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, which starts from the assumption that humans are naturally disposed toward empathy and mutual support. The system envisaged in The Wealth of Nations breaks down conceptually when divorced from The Theory of Moral Sentiments, because the social solidarity Smith imagines upholding the commonwealth needs Smith's theory of human nature to be true.
But then along comes Comrade Marx to inform everyone that, even if we are predisposed to kindness, capitalism will emerge from bourgeois commodity production to turn us inside out. And, indeed, does capitalism not now rest on an anthropology that's precisely the opposite of Smith's?
I use a thing called pocket which lets you right click on an article (or long press on phones) and it trims the article down to just the text and pictures, removes paywalls, and syncs it to pocket, which you can then access from your phone, computer, or ereader
Don't use google if you care about your privacy. Use duckduckgo or, if you want more google-like search results, Startpage. Neither one of these two collect data about you or follow you online.
Fucking lol dude. I had no clue about this. I don't feel justified in bashing her if I haven't at least read 'Atlas Shrugged' I want to read her important works but The Fountainhead and her hypocritical nature has kept me at bay.
I've also found that her followers haven't read Das Kapital or anything for that matter from communist writers. They will quote Adam Smith's 'The Wealth of Nations' but absolutely ignore his warnings on many issues with Capitalist Economics. Again because they haven't read em.
Check out the most recent The Dig episode. It'll give everyone here a better understanding of what we're dealing with.
Well if you're interested in this from a history of ideas kind of perspective, Adam Smith is pretty neat. He first develops a moral framework in The Theory of Moral Sentiments which serves as the moral basis for The Wealth of Nations. Back in his day, economics was considered a subfield of moral philosophy and moral concerns are what motivates Smith.
actual leftists when Vaush excuses himself to use the restroom at local meetups

“No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.” Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, p. 79, 1776.
Even the bourgie liberals at the world bank say this “We now have considerable evidence that equity is also instrumental to the pursuit of long-term prosperity in aggregate terms for society as a whole.”
This is a question that really shouldn't be a question anymore, inequality is bad and that's demonstrably proven.
They're several people on that thread defending fascism as a "third position ideology. They need to inform themselves on the 14 characteristics of fascism.
56.5% of Millenials consider themselves to be working class
So can we stop with this middle class pandering bullshit already
We live in a cursed timeline:
Vanilla Liberals comparing Trump to Mao
Conservatices Liberals comparing Biden to Mao
And this is just with simple keywords searchs, with some effort you could present a selection of articles, tweets, or political comics of both liberal sides making a clear accusation of the other side being maoists.
> I've found that catching myself and then systematically replacing one word with another helps keep me cognizant.
It occurs to me that something like Hemingway might be kind of helpful for this. A browser extension or whatever that highlights words and suggests alternatives as you write.
You're welcome to be angry. I just hope that you're angry enough to read the damn thing.
If we want to be specific it is a "critique" of any kind of totalitarianism (including stalinism).
In the book proletariats are treated subhumanly. Not very communistic.
The bottom right patch is definantly a crusader patch since "vult" is clearly visible. I'm pretty sure its this one
Also I tried putting the cyrilic into google translate and nothing poped up, so it might be his name but idk
Those ebil Chinese put themselves at the centre of the world! oh wait......this is by my daisuke desu kawaii Japan! Never mind then
I know this guy. He wrote this shitty book. The back of which is riddled with simple spelling errors (can't imagine what's inside...).
The guy is a worthless grifter of the highest order and makes all his money by selling his bullshit "get rich quick" schemes to gullible petite bourgeois losers with failing small businesses.
So, socialism was created in the 19th century to serve as a justification for russian imperialism ?
By allowing ... *check notes* ... a revolution that ended the Russian Empire ?
All of that so that later after the fall of the Soviet Union a capitalist named Putin could use not socialism but anti nazism as an excuse to invade Ukraine ?
That's why I don't like most time travel stories, almost every time the plot lines ends up becoming totally incoherent by the end. /s

Well, work cars will still be a necessity. I have to deliver 4 of these https://www.amazon.com/Dell-PowerEdge-Tower-Server-2224-8/dp/B087YVPDJL to an office in an industrial park. Well, there really is no public transit option for that.
It would still be a minuscule amount of traffic.
Also imagine the reduction in material and human costs.
And apparrently this "artist" is a millionnaire, and one of his works was painting a coca cola logo on Han dynasty vases.
Yes "vases", plural, this guy is doing that on vases that are around 2000 years old, if anyone else did that to similar historical pieces of that age they would be rightly accused of vandalism.
He didn't lack an arm, but i have heard multiple times that he supposedly had a deformed/crippled left arm or hand.
I heard multiple versions of the story, but the one that seems to be more common is that he was involved in an accident with a horse phaeton carriage as a kid and his arm never fully recovered
That said I have also seen others reasons mentionned, one of them being from beatings from his father, so I don't know what the true is, of even if he actually had a crippled hand/arm or if it was yet another rumours against him;
If someone better informed can confirm if the stories are true or not it will be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Jailbreak your phone and install an adblocker? (I dont have an iphone but I assume there are adblocker tweaks out there.) If you mostly watch videos on your home network you can also use pi-hole.
> Do you have a link/resource for payment for gulag labor? I could use this for my bookmarked resources. Thanks!
If you don't need anything particularly elaborate (some bits are iffy, IMO) and don't mind quite a bit of politically correct anti-Soviet drivel, here are two examples that describe it to some extent:
Borodkin, Leonid & Ertz, Simon. Forced Labour and the Need for Motivation: Wages and Bonuses in the Stalinist Camp System.
Borodkin, Leonid and Ertz, Simon. Coercion versus Motivation: Forced Labor in Norilsk.

All religions started as revolutionary groupings that were then co-op-ed. I will forever pitch this book because the author described the feeling when he read Kautakys foundations of Christianity and I got the same feeling reading the book. It’s called Behind the Myths: foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam . It gives a materialist and class analysis of the foundations of these religions. I truly think it’s a compelling book and should be a book curious marxists should read. As someone who came to my atheism through apathy I was delighted to view religion thorough a materialist lens and with a class analysis. I am interested in getting foundations of Christianity but it just doesn’t seem to be many Marxist writings on religion and it’s role beyond passing mentions(that I’m aware of) or at least to the extent of a whole book.
The Incredible Bread Machine is another great book, as are the Uncle Eric series of books.
This book, in which the Fox News host author "explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology are now pervasive in American society and culture—from our schools, the press, and corporations, to Hollywood, the Democratic Party, and the Biden presidency" was the #1 selling book on Amazon for months and is still the #1 book in the US Government category.
fr, Dems be like
Yes it is basically believing that the USA incorporated at some point so you don't have to pay taxes.
I don't know what is with right wingers and their bizarre legal absolutism.
Big fan of the courts of heaven
This guy supposedly began his writing career in the early 90s and he's still making these embarrassing comics which look like they were made by a fifteen year old. "Deep thoughts" lmao. Puddle deep more like.
Also this kind of crap.
China is not conventionally capitalist.
Workers own the means of production directly or via state apparatus.
For example, Huawei is wholly owned by workers.

Here’s the link to the book he wrote, I forgot he actually wrote and monetized it lmao.
Reviews are Golden, there’s literally one near the top that just flat out calls out his fascism-woobifying and how the book feels likes neo-Nazi propaganda
I would say to also read A People’s Guide to Capitalism before the ones I listed above. A lot of these economic concepts are really hard to understand, but this books is a really good plain English explanation that will give you a good enough understanding to read old theory.
It wasn't just the thoughts of a small group of people. This was a dominant mode of thinking. This is such a settled question in academia that I'm having a lot of trouble remembering specific sources.
A few years ago I read How The Irish Became White, and I have vague memories of it being a good source for this. You should be able to find it on libgen or something
If there are people here who want to read the declassified documents mentionned here, there are sadly only available in the original russian, and after doing some research I found that a compilation of those document was released on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Aggression-Declassified-documents-Intelligence-1939-1941/dp/5386034324

The actual sad part is that this new law won't be used to actually spy on neonazis. Because the neonazis, called Verfassungsschutz, are the ones getting this power. A politician of the SPD was spied on which was reported recently. For what crime you ask? Well for criticizing racism.
Then there are tons of scandals how the Verfassungsschutz created neonazi terror groups like the NSU and destroyed all records. In the end the only people that were actually blamed and convicted as part of the NSU were 3 people of which 2 were already dead. Only one woman was actually convicted.
The cops were extremely disgusting during all of the NSU's time it was killing mostly migrants or german POCs. An owner of a kebap shop got killed and because he was turkish the cops investigated amongst other turkish families and communities and ignored every clue they got about the perpetrators being white german neonazis. I read almost all the stories of the victims and the processes how cops acted and how the state in general acted.
Fuck cops
Also another interesting thing to think about is that this new Bundestrojaner that will be allowed could also be driven by capital, mostly by copyright holders. Many companies already sue companies like NordVPN etc because according to them using VPN = illegally downloading copyright material. It would not surprise me if many of my artist friends who use private licenses for their demotapes could get fucked if the Bundestrojaner might find such licenses although they publish and sell their music.
> Secrets of the Polish politics in 1935-1945
Apparrently the french version of Amazon has a slightly better description of the book than the UK version I linked in my previous comment:
https://www.amazon.fr/1935-1945-Declassified-Intelligence-Federation-Federation/dp/5519567875
> This collection contains documents declassified Russian Foreign Intelligence Service archives in Poland, including the official documents of the General Staff and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country who cover foreign and military policy of the Polish leadership on the eve of and during the Second World War.
The book is still marked as being in Russian however.
Maybe you could paint over the word liberal on this one?
Give this a read, it's short and not necessarily religious.

>Two decades after the publication of The Black Book of Communism, nearly everyone is or at least should be, aware of the immense evil produced by that devilish ideology first hatched when Karl Marx penned his Communist Manifesto two centuries ago. Far too many people, however, separate Marx the man from the evils wrought by the oppressive ideology and theory that bears his name. That is a grave mistake. Not only did the horrific results of Marxism follow directly from Marx’s twisted ideas, but the man himself penned some downright devilish things. Well before Karl Marx was writing about the hell of communism, he was writing about hell.
>“Thus Heaven I’ve forfeited, I know it full well,” he wrote in a poem in 1837, a decade before his Manifesto. “My soul, once true to God, is chosen for Hell.” That certainly seemed to be the perverse destiny for Marx’s ideology, which consigned to death over 100 million souls in the twentieth century alone.
>No other theory in all of history has led to the deaths of so many innocents. How could the Father of Lies not be involved?
>At long last, here, in this book by Professor Paul Kengor, is a close, careful look at the diabolical side of Karl Marx, a side of a man whose fascination with the devil and his domain would echo into the twentieth century and continue to wreak havoc today. It is a tragic portrait of a man and an ideology, a chilling retrospective on an evil that should have never been let out of its pit.

There's probably a PDF out there somewhere also
/u/Jayk is correct here because of this. Sam Harris tried to address this problem in "The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values", but he didn't really overcome the problem. Others have tried as well, but it still comes back to science being unable to actually determining anything other than how to achieve a goal, rather than opposed to which goals to achieve in the first place.
Idk about all that god talk, though...
