If you upload the save somewhere I can see how/if the grids are connected.
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Surviving_Mars#Save_game_data_location
or you can do that with ECM:
Select a building in the grid you want to check
press F4 for the object examiner
click water or electricity or air>click grid>click elements
then in examine open Tools>Find Within
change the limit from 1 to 2>search for tunnel
that'll show all tunnels connected to that grid.
or pull up the console with Enter/Tilde>click Examine>UICity>then you can check each grid (air/water/elec).
Adding to this, there's websites which track the price history - the one I use is gg.deals - they give you an idea as to how often a game goes on sale (usually about once a month) and what price it goes down to.

Thanks /u/Para_Rod, your reassurance and engagement with the community is greatly appreciated, but I'm still not sure I'm entirely comfortable with my IP address being stored unnecessarily by a third party.
Are you able to provide a mechanism whereby this tracking is not performed on starting any paradox games? Whether it's required by GDPR or not it seems a reasonable feature to provide as a positive gesture to the more privacy concious members of your community, and would go a long way to setting a positive model for GDPR:
> If a user does not agree to have their information collected, you cannot block them from accessing content based on that fact. source
I think you might be a little misinformed about how GDPR works. In simple terms it's no longer acceptable to hide such clauses in an EULA. Here's a little more depth in words better than mine:
> GDPR also spells out how that information needs to be given to consumers. That information can no longer be hidden in long privacy policies filled with legal jargon. The information in disclosures needs to be written in plain language and “freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous.” Individuals also have to take an action which clearly gives their consent to their information being collected. Pre-checked boxes and notices that rely on inaction as a way of giving consent will no longer be allowed. If a user does not agree to have their information collected, you cannot block them from accessing content based on that fact. source
But I do agree that /u/theodosian is perhaps going a little far in referring to it as spyware, but it does certainly appear to be a violation of GDPR
You can click on the mod editor in the game, go to the "Help" tab, and scroll down to "sample mod assets" and click on the "Entity Mod Items" link, it provides an explanation of how you can use install a plugin for Blender that allows to export a model you can use in the game, along with specific instructions on how to ensure that it is compatible.
So I guess the answer is that you would need Blender, which is free.
Good luck!
This page makes it sounds like Surviving Mars has GoG save game sync support. I don't know enough about GoG to know if it's true, but it's possible your saves may still exist in the cloud.
You don't get the deluxe pack (some chrome building skins, another radio station)
https://store.steampowered.com/sub/244146/
also greenmangaming is having a sale for it 70% off: https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/surviving-mars-first-colony-edition-pc/
I don't think not playing will loosen up your progress, so you're safe on that account.
If you want to upload the save file somewhere I'll see if I can load it, and maybe give you an idea of what's wrong with it?

I also made a mod that may give you some more info in your log file, if you're playing with mods it might tell you which is messing up

This is what I did. Got the game for free on Epic, loved it, then when I looked for the best deals I found First Colony Edition was cheaper than buying the Season Pass on Epic and it included the Deluxe stuff as an extra. I went with gog.com and also bought the In Dome Buildings pack.
A couple of things it could be:
Running out of memory. - You might check that your computer has sufficient free space on its main drive. The drive gets used as "swap space" (virtual memory) for the RAM when your computer runs low on RAM. If memory is the issue, it can help to quit other programs to free up more RAM. And restarting your computer before you start playing could free up more RAM too.
Heat. - This game looks kinds of graphically intensive. If your computer is getting really hot while playing, this heat is not good for the computer. If you are on a laptop, you might get a cooling pad to help keep it cool. And as the other commenter said, turning down the graphics settings in the game will also help with this.
You might also run the "Activity Monitor" app while you play. It's located in either the Applications folder or the Utilities folder. This will allow you to monitor how much of your CPU and Memory (RAM) are getting used while you play.
If you think heat is the issue, you could also try the smcFanControl app to make your computer's fan run harder. https://github.com/hholtmann/smcFanControl/releases (this app might not do anything on the MacBook Air, if that's what you're using, though, since not all of those have fans.)
I recently picked up Beyond Earth. Haven't been able to put time into it yet, but it's reasonably well reviewed. It actually lays out a case for Titan.
