Check out PIA ( Private Internet Access) Download it and save yourself the headache. It was probably just a threat letter to not do it. The best VPN I've found to work with the fastest download speeds is Private Internet Access don't offer enough data to download anything useful. And if they do, then they are super slow. With Private Internet Access, I'm able to get speeds of up to 11mb/s which is only 2mb/s under the speed my current ISP provides.

Note: I provided my referral link, not for advertising, but just in-case you do it offers us both 30 days extra for free when you sign up. I'm going off of my personal experiences, and I can't guarantee you will get the same results, but I'm just telling you what I experienced.

For thepiratebay.org i have no problem. However every site listed on thepiratebay-proxylist.se is a complete rip-off. They do not disclose that they are mining, the profit of the mining goes straight in to their pocket and does not have anything to do with thepiratebay or the community. They also go to greater length to hide the fact that they are mining, buy using clever popup and popunder scripts. The further you go within the source of one of the sites you can clearly see that they are just a bad rip of the original thepiratebay site. And for that i choose not to use any of the sites or to support their mining.

The purpose of using a VPN doesn't just stop at keeping your ISP from monitoring your torrenting activity, it also protects your actual IP address from leaking to other peers in the swarm. You wouldn't want your IP visible to anyone who's torrenting the same thing as you, would you? If your interested in getting a VPN, I'd suggest either ProtonVPN or NordVPN. Both services are based out of the "5/9/14 eyes" so in an extreme circumstance, not even the US government would be able to seize their databases and view your activity. Not that there'd be anything to see anyway since both Nord and Proton don't log any identifying user data.
Buddy, just download it from :)

Well, To be honest it would be difficult to understand for 5 yrs old but trying not to be an ass I'll proceed. There's no copyright infringement in TPB's structure. TPB only hosts magnet links (not even .torrent files) and magnet links further generate torrent files using torrent clients. No actual files was (will be) hosted in TPB database.
TL;DR: TPB is NOT illegal.
Now ask then why TPB was raided?
There are many reasons for that; some are not much discussed and loosely followed.
TPB is most notorious and infamous file-sharing site
It is public
They've been criticized that they are making surplus money by hosting illegal files disguised under the name of "Freedom of Speech" (well, I doubt that one; I've seen the inner structure of TPB)
They've been criticizing to promote piracy
-> They handle worlds' more than 75% Bittorrent traffic, Istole, Openbittorents and Public are 'reported' to supported by them.
-> There are some loose clues that Open Demonii(the tracker) are also funded by them
-> Pirate Browser for uncensoring the web
-> Providing people free VPN (FrootVPN)
The chief reason is they DO NOT respond to DMCA requests. They don't remove any file (though magnet link) upon DMCA requests
Ultimate reason: They are providing people the 'divine' platform to raise their voice(a.k.a freedom of speech) and bring revolutions; you can take an example of Wikileaks or anything else.
(but yeah this platform continuously being misused by hackers etc. like sony leak, personal hacking releases, fappening etc.)

Better to be safe than sorry - VPN recommendation? I've been using ExpressVPN for years, allows P2P/Torrenting. Another solid one is NordVPN, also allows P2P/Torrenting. Both are paid and have high reviews if you look into it!
NordVPN is good. They currently have 3 years plan for 3$USD a month so around 120$ in total when you hit the front page. Bought it today myself, that's why I accidentally saw your thread. They have dedicated servers for torrenting and not for torrenting so you can set your browsing etc client for another server that doesn't overload of torrent users and torrent for another. Very good, I like.

Use a VPN and TPB is immediately available! It seems like its being blocked or throttled out of existence by pretty much every ISP on the planet. I use NordVPN and can connect with zero effort.

First of all, you won't find anything 'safe as possible' for free. There are plenty of VPNs that cost lower than 10 bucks, but I think the price shouldn't be the main indicator while choosing a security product. For example, NordVPN is a privacy-based service, and not that expensive, so you won't overpay but still gonna get a quality product. You can look into more providers here.
Get a VPN and set it up so the torrent client only runs through it, and set up a kill switch so the torrent client shuts down whenever the VPN loses connection. If you're using torrents all the time you can get a subscription for NordVPN for something like $4 per year if you sign up for 2 years. Only mentioning it since that was the VPN I was using, it's supposed to be pretty good and completely safe and yeah, they have these offers going at all times.
It's basically to protect you from your ISP (internet service provider). Without a VPN, your ISP can see what you're downloading but they usually dont know that you're torrenting unless they look. The only times they might look is when you download something huge or download a torrent that is basically bugged. It will alert them when you download it and then you can expect a fine in the mail for torrenting illegal stuff. Generally if you just download movies and TV from reputable uploaders then you should be good. I'd recommend NordVPN but you can do research and get whichever you want. If you torrent frequently then I'd advise you get one. It's sort of a 'better safe than sorry' case.
If there are any free VPN services, they are not worth using. I use Private Internet Access (PIA) and have been quite happy with it. The don’t keep logs and you can pay just about any way you want, including a lot of store gift cards. If you pay monthly it’s $6.95 but you can get it cheaper if you prepay a year or more. The client also has an internet kill switch, which is a definite plus when torrenting. But definitely don’t torrent without a reliable VPN.
I have been using NordVPN for half a year now and so far I'm really happy.
It's fast, stable and has a good reputation. Recommended by TorrentFreak.
Only downside being, it's a bit expensive. But honestly, it's worth it

If you don't want a lawsuit - get a paid VPN, better be safe than sorry tbh, especially when downloading torrents as such. Torrentfreak has a nice article about good VPN services that you can read about. I personally use NordVPN, but Express, VPNArea, PrivateVPN are good too for that kind of thing. You can also use it not only for torrenting but privacy in general, a VPN is quite handy
A chrome extension VPN will just protect your browser, not the whole computer. It does not protect you when you're downloading torrents via torrent client, for that you need a desktop based VPN like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, VPNac or similar. Then the VPN protects your whole device, not only your browser. Get a credible paid VPN that allows torrenting (not all of them do), Torrentfreak's article is a good start to look for a VPN you can torrent with.
And piracy gets detected because if you're not using a VPN, your Internet provider sees everything you do online - what websites you visit, what kind of files you download and they can easily narrow it down to your IP address
I’m also using Private Internet Access for my VPN since it has a high security settings and also doesn’t keep logs. As for my downloader I use Tixati. I’ve never had an issue using it and there’s a lot of customization options as well.

And guys, if your country/ISP blocked TPB then just use any of these 6 VPNs suggested by other Reddit users to unblock TPB.

Getting a VPN that keeps no logs like Private Internet Access is going to be your best bet. I’ve been using their services for years now and haven’t seen any DMCA notices come through since. They’re also recommended by the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) who is all about internet freedom and privacy.
for Private Internet Access (PIA) as well. I’ve been using them for 4 years now & I’ve never had an issue. I started using them for the same reason - I had received multiple copyright infringement emails from Verizon for movies I torrented.
I pay $69.99/two years & I’d say it’s well worth my money. I torrent movies a lot & as long as I torrent 2-3 movies from that year, which I definitely do, I feel like I got my money’s worth from PIA.
Do you know that these are only rumours and most likely just a shady campaign by competitors or smth like that? The article is updated with the latest information and it clearly says "Despite all of the rumours flying around online, there does not appear to be any verifiable issues with NordVPN itself."
Like stated above, Private Internet Access is a good choice. It's cheaper than most and has been very reliable for me for 4 or 5 years also. But there are many choices.
But whatever you do, YOU MUST GET A VPN!
Edit: Many VPN's have free trials, including PIA (Private Internet Access).
When it comes to VPN's, you get what you pay for. A free VPN service, IMO, cannot be trusted. I use Private Internet Access, costs $3 a month, or $40 per year, and can torrent until the sun comes up...safely. Without a VPN, it is not a question of if you will get caught, but a matter of when.
Pirate bay market? Cause they are not the same thing.
thepiratebay.org does not need any invitation.
the current address is always on the right side (as now: Current TPB URL: https://thepiratebay.org/)
My fav for movies and TV shows, very well organised, run by russians, has an english version (I will kill you if you go and fail to see the english version and complain there isn't one):
Hi i just wanted to say that your tpb site may not be the real one and if you are sure this is the one (which doesn‘t look like it) then use Windscribe (completely free, with newsletter 10gb) or ProtonVPN, but in my experience they are slow. And dont do what the other guy said, its a trial not free.
Try and get yourself on a private torrent site. These are generally safer (READ: Still not 100%). But generally the community on those places are held more accountable and the malware/virus rates are much lower.
Always use a PAID VPN. There are several review sites and pages that explain what makes a good VPN, and what some of the best ones are. ExpressVPN, Nord, PIA, will probably be your best bets.
If using TPB, Skulls are your friends for sources. However, I've noticed a few of these still manage to get through the screening. So as someone else stated. Always download to a Virtual Machine or secondary sandbox system that you don't care if it gets infected. Once you've verified the software as safe, move it to your main system.
I'm not really sure what other tips that we can give. Use your senses, and make sure you read comments on anything you download to see if it's obvious fake comments, or if there are any reports of anything malicious.
Take your time, keep your eyes open, and use your common sense. Read through this subreddit, as this question gets asked DAILY. Plenty of information around here. If you're too lazy to read up and research it, it doesn't matter what you do, because you'll be too lazy to do the stuff to stay safe anyway.
I, for one, absolutely condone pirating anything. However, I WILL go buy a piece of software if it's something reasonably priced, that I either get a lot of use out of, or make money off of after I've pirated it.
Either way, stay safe, and have fun sticking it to 'the system'!
Just use VPN and you can pirate everything you want without worrying, if you want to be extra cheap and dont want to spend 3$ a month on nordvpn, you can even search up a NordVPN account list, worked for me, using the same VPN account thats not mine for months now. Also for games you can use this site , it uses mega downloads that arent trackable
It's opening fine now.
Buddy, if your ISP is blocking the connection then simply use any of these 5 VPNs recommended by other Reddit users.
I am using CyberGhost and NordVPN without any issues at all.
If you live in a country where torrenting is illegal, then having a VPN is very important for you. Look into something like NordVPN or Safer, or read more articles like this. And always keep a kill-switch on, so that your IP wouldn't accidentally leak.
Hey dude, i cant speak about Torgaurd but i use and often experience the same thing... Although maybe not quite that slow.
I have a 150mb connection but rarely get download speeds above 3mbs while using a VPN.
In general i often find that the closest server doesnt necessarily mean faster speeds, i assume it depends on the demand of that particular server and so a server further away may be beneficial if there are less people connected to it.
Here is a list of VPNs by TorrentFreak. They go over 12 questions they asked all of them.
I would encouraged against using a free VPN, as they usually have very "sketchy" policy
Personal experience, I have used NordVPN for about 3 years (before everyone started advertising it on youtube), and I have not encountered any issues with it. Most notable policy they have is that they do not store any logs (like many other VPN providers have too of course)
I realize this question was asked a while ago. But, I was in the same position as you. Never downloaded enough to warrant a vpn. But yeah, I started getting emails from my isp. I tried Surfshark, Expressvpn and both were fairly slow, 2-3mbps when I usually download 12mbps. I ended up trying Torguard because of a recommendation and haven't looked back. There's codes on the web to get you 50% off of any package. So you can try their service out for a month for $5. If you like it, you can get their 2 year package which comes out to $2 a month.

I didn't read through all of the comments, so I apologize if this has already been mentioned or doesn't fit what you're looking for.
FYI that throttling is a serious pain in the butt. They do that in the U.S. too. It really is worth looking into a VPN in my opinion, but check out reviews first because there are some scams out there. I use Cyberghost VPN, and I know NordVPN is also good. I think they both have a free version but I'm happy I'm paying for mine. Cyberghost usually has a great sale every October but I could see if they have a referral program or something if somebody wants to try it.
Sure, one of the users mentioned using the Tor link http://uj3wazyk5u4hnvtk.onion/ that is used specifically in the Tor Browser you can download here. This will only allow you to access the website but does not solve the underlying issue of your ISP.
You would want to use a VPN service to insure that once you start downloading a torrnet from ANY torrent site your information would be hidden from your internet provider so you wont receive copyright emails. Some VPNs that work well that I've used personally are NordVPN and (My current VPN and the cheaper of the 2)
I use AirVPN but it has a weird glitch if it "crashes" it can stop your connection from working while you're not connected to the VPN. And by crash I mean shutting down without disconnecting. For the most part its always been an easy enough fix. Really the only problem I've had with it.
I like the fact it allows upto 5 simultaneous connections and doesn't require them to be on the same network.
there is free VPN's out there, but I wouldn't trust them. The best VPN's (that don't keep logs which you want) will cost you a monthly/yearly fee. I personally recommend ExpressVPN, NordVPN is another solid one (both allowing P2P file sharing - torrenting)
That being said, Private Internet Access always has sales. I'm currently paying $30 a year for their service. $2.50 a month is nothing for the peace of mind. And they allow you to put the VPN settings right in to your torrent software so you don't have to run a VPN on your main connection if you don't want to.
I wouldn't use a free VPN. Especially for torrents. You have no way of knowing if the VPN provider keep logs on your activity or what the do with that data, but you can bet that they do something. If you aren't paying for the product, then you are the product. I would recommend Private Internet Access or Express VPN. I've also heard good things about Tunnel Bear, they were the first VPN to allow an external privacy audit or something. You can spend around 12-15 for one month and if you like it you can get it cheaper if you buy a year or two year's worth. There are cheaper paid VPNs but with slower speeds and worse reputations. I would encourage you to spend an hour or two doing some research before paying for one. And be skeptical of sites that's only purpose is rating VPNs. Something like- , many of those are just setup or paid for by the company that is top on the list. There is an element of trust to using a VPN, because you are essentially just taking their word that they are doing what they claim to be.
