First off, go Texans. The team name is the Texans. It's a great team name that no one else in the NFL could ever have. The Chicago Illinoisans? The Arizona Arizonans? The Seattle Washingtonans? See how that does not work anywhere else but for the Houston Texans? Drink your kool aid and love your Texans.
Secondly, If the oilers name came home, then wonderful. It could be celebrated as a part of Houston football history. I think we might even get a throwback jersey day out of it, or alternate color uniform at some point, or maybe at least a Texans color rush uniform that is wearable on color rush night. But that's about it and that's ok. The Texans have nearly 20 years of their own history that should not be discarded. Go Texans. FTC. FTP.
My pleasure for being a busy body on Twitter! I was really impressed with the initiative that my fellow fans took here on /r/Texans so I just wanted to spread the word for them!
The biggest selling point for SSL for them should be that Google uses HTTPS as a critical ranking signal... so they are likely losing a bunch of traffic and potential donations not having SSL. Also, Let's Encrypt SSL is free.
Someone on NextDoor.com was giving away their tickets and the only comment was asking what section. Maybe they took the offer in private message, idk, but 2 years ago there would have been hundreds of people telling sob stories about why they NEED the tickets.
So this is Off Topic but I know we aren't having a free talk thread today.. I went to my first ever hockey game this weekend and my Avalanche killed the Habs 6-1..
here is a photo dump of everything..
Anyway.. really hoping we win tonight... Still drinking that Kool Aid
>You can just tell how much he knows his opponents in and out.
Pats fan here, first of all just wanted to say I'm stoked for this game. This is as trial by fire as any game any quarterback can be thrust into, and it'll be interesting to see how the Hooded one can game plan, how the Kid Brissette can adapt, and how you guys can handle walking in as the favorites into one of the most intimidating stadiums in the league.
That being said, to expand on your comment.
His preparation is legendary
>Quick, Bill Belichick has a few questions for you: Describe the third player from the left on the Indianapolis Colts’ kickoff coverage team. Is he fast? Is he strong enough to run you over? Where did he play in college?
There was another article I can't track down from last season where we were palying the Jaguars. Not a great team, but to make sure nobody walked in overconfident, he doubled down on the preparation.
The players were saying they had to not only know their plays, assignments and the other team (the entire depth chart), but also... Who's the owner? What's the stadium called? How'd he make his money? Stuff like that.
Maybe they're something to it. Maybe it's as simple as not knowing who the owner is, but the act of focusing on the game and zoning out distractions, and keeping yourself out of trouble that's the key. Who knows. Only the Hooded One knows.
Anyway, big fan of O'Brien and we miss Big Vince dearly, but glad you guys treat him well, and looking forward to a hell of a game tomorrow.
I quite vividly remember when the front page was just like that. It's also proof that i was here when there were only 380 or so subs. I was /u/Scruge and that smart ass post i made about Leinart makes me smile sadly. God damn you, Albert Haynesworth.
What a rough time those weeks were. Was anyone else an active poster at the time?
Russell Wilson winning the super bowl has caused this obnoxious ass Johnny Football love fest to kick into overdrive just because he's short and can throw. They're similar but the Texans and the Seahawks are not. You go in expecting the same results, you're gonna have a bad time.
lmao i know ur getting down voted hard but this is exactly what McNair said about Watt in regards to what our DE would do if he was in Brady's situation (destroying the cell phone in Deflategate)
I mean east Texas is known for being very accepting of minorities. It's not like we've had issues with the KKK deep in the piny woods , Livingston, Jasper, etc within the last decade or two.... Ever heard of a book called Terror on highway 59? That shit is right in our backyard.

There was an interesting article that came out a few years ago that might explain a bit of the role that David has played in his brother's success.
I just signed up for a free month of youtube tv and it has all the local channels, even has a cool dvr feature that will record Texans games all season for you. Can stream the game on my phone now, more info here
As of right now, we've got exactly 8 folks (slightly under 10% of participants) who have predicted the season to this point. Projecting based on those 8 participants, we have a 8-8 record to look forward to.
Remaining game predictions according to /u/aareyes12, /u/andoo, /u/Drew1111, /u/ghderf, /u/_boj, /u/pdstx, /u/AUZZ13_BL1TZ, and /u/Shadowfsh:
It's better than 2-14, but it ain't good enough.

YES. I like Gordon a lot, regardless of his issues. Read what he wrote to Stephen A, he's not a lost cause, he just has had some bad breaks. Who does he have to guide him in Cleveland and to lookup to? NOBODY. If Andre took him under his wing, I'm sure he could help him out. With all the problems he has had, I don't see him fetching a contract that pays him what his talent is worth. That means we get a hell of a deal if he stays on the field. He's still pretty young, and young guys make mistakes. Most grow out of that. He's not a bad guy and he doesn't seem to have any addiction issues, he just messed up a few times. I hate when people look at off the field issues and dismiss a player because of that. With the right people surrounding him, he could completely turn around. Why draft someone when we could find Andres replacement for cheaper than he's worth and we know he can be a superstar.

First off, that's the wrong data. That data is for all drives starting position, not kickoff starting position. I can't find the actual data about kickoff starting position all I have is this small article about Peters kicking off for us, where it mentions our starting position is the 23.5 yd line on kickoffs, which is 5th in the league.
Week's been pretty good although, GF's sister is getting married this weekend and she's the maid of honor and stressing out which in turn she's trying to stress me out.
Prediction for the game is that we continue to upset Bengals fans 35-14 Texans.
Raiders win one game this season.
Tom Dempsey made at the time(1970) the longest NFL field goal of 63 yard with only half a foot.
Here are some free games.
Not all hope is lost. I just want to leave this here as encouragement. Not so long ago the Pats got destroyed 41-14 by the Cheifs in week 5, everyone said it was the end of an era the Pats were done. But they used it as fuel to rebound and ending up winning the superbowl that same year. I don't think you can count the Texans out at this point this is a learning experience and hopefully it will light a fire under their ass and make them stronger as a team.
So if you have amazon prime and wear a large or x-large. This jacket is super nice. 15 or 16 bucks for a thermal jacket is crazy.

Sure thing.
The VPN I use is Private Internet Access
Then you run that, log into Gamepass with your location set to somewhere in the UK and it'll let you pay with a card from the US. They don't care just have the VPN working when you launch it and then turn it off.
Nudge, which Thaler actually co-authored, is a pretty good start. Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely is a good read, but pretty self-serving. My personal favorite has got to be Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, a psychologist who is more or less the father of the field. The book outlines pretty much a lifetime of work. It's a bit dry, but full of interesting stuff. Basically, if you more interested in the Economics side, go with Nudge as an intro, if you more interested in the underlying mental mechanisms, Kahneman's the way to go.
Lots of good advice in the thread already but I'll try and add to it. I'm gonna take a flying leap and assume you're pretty familiar with soccer.
Obviously, football has a bunch more start and stops than soccer does. However, the tactical/positional aspects can be similar. In soccer, certain teams have certain styles. Some play 10 men behind the ball with a very conservative, defensive style (e.g. Italy). Many couple that with a fast counter attack looking for a quick score (Madrid). Some teams play a fluid possession game with lots of holding by the midfielders and a probing, conservative offensive approach (Barca). Some attack through the wings, others up the middle....you get the idea. There are formations that support all of those types of play: all the variations of 4-4-2, 3-5-1, stuff with attacking midfielders, defensive midfielders etc etc. Additionally, you get the personnel/players to support the respective style of play and formation.
Ok, one of the things I like about football is all those factors can be changed every play according to the situation. Imagine if soccer coaches had unlimited substitutions every time the ball went out (from a roster of 53 total players). If a team is behind they'll call riskier plays looking for something big. If a team is ahead, they'll call more conservative plays to try and maintain a lead until time runs out. There is a ton of variation in how coaches will deploy their players to accomplish their goals. Plus, every strategy has advantages and disadvantages, so there is always a sort of chess match going on between the two teams.
This book is a great intro to some of this stuff. Also, feel free to ask questions...I'll try and clarify any/all of this if I can. There's also a bunch of really smart and helpful people in this sub....just keep hanging around and you'll pick it all up in no time!
I'm thinking maybe, something like this :-)
You're wrong. He kneeled before every game. There are photos of him doing it before the Tampa game, which was Week 16.
The meeting with HPD did happen, but it wasn't in exchange for anything.

He actually hasn't much, he's pretty much the same guy his entire career. About a 50% passer and throws too many picks. Underrated runner, but not a very good passer.
only take Uber in DF. its the best and safest way to get around. as far as where to stay, Polanco is really nice. Airbnb has a nice write up on the neighborhood. Polanco via Airbnb
as for airfare, you can get pretty cheap tickets to D.F., roundtrip from IAH for less than $200 at times.
Here you go: http://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=400874511
But take it with some grain of salt. Our O-line is playing with backups and they are bad as run blockers but serviceable as pass blockers. And some of the bad runs happened at garbage time.
Edit: The last 4 runs were garbage time
wait i thought Brees was voted "most likely to be the sponsor for a giant ponzi scheme"
Nothing. I gave up and just made sure I was able to stream the whole thing live.
As far as the software went: I had to use Firefox to get anything going with Jaksta. But that's just my short experience. Riptiger was about the same as far as options go, but I don't make it a habit to buy software I've only used once.
I would like to recommend something for the more tech savvy: RTMPDump. If you can figure out how this software works, I think it's the right way to go.

Get some of these cable hides. If you still have the paint for your wall you can paint them the same color. It gives a real nice clean look to the mounted TV without having to hide the cables through the wall.
Or just listen (on android, at least) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nflradiolive.radio
Also I'm pretty sure there are apps that type up play by plays. I think even the Yahoo (or maybe ESPN) fantasy app does it.
Private Internet Access. It's $40 bucks a year, but totally worth every penny. Never use a free VPN though. Horrible bandwidth and you cannot download P2P (for torrenting).
^^I ^^am ^^not ^^condoning ^^piracy. ^^That ^^is ^^illegal.

TBF you didn't refute anything either. Having a conversation about race relations is extremely difficult to have with an internet stranger. If you're genuinely curious about what white privilege is, and how it has affected this countries history, then I'd highly recommend The New Jim Crow. You might actually understand exactly what Kaep is trying to fight for, and why it's so important. Yes, Watt did something amazing. No one is taking that away from him. Kaep is trying to change what has been a problem for this country for centuries.
That's the one I have, works well from campus area in Austin. I hook it up to a TV Tuner card in my computer (for DVR and streaming), but you can just hook it straight to your TV if that's all you need.
Also, antenna feeds are uncompressed, higher quality than cable or satellite.
Got this bad boy. I really wanted to stay away from chromebooks mainly to stay independent of internet use. Surely most of my use will involve internet but I didn't want anything that'd be a paperweight if I went to a coffee shop or the park.
Something small and portable? Hmm I think I might have a link... let me check
My friend convinced me to try making a brisket with a dry rub of Slap ya mama! Shit was so crazy good but spicy as fuck. Ever since then I've mostly just stuck to salt and pepper, I'm not that brave anymore.
Maybe try it anyway. I use this antenna. It's like $8. With it I get better quality than cable (cable is compressed, antenna isn't) and generally every game (Austin).
I also got a tuner card for my PC, so I can have the game on one monitor and something else on the other. Also capable of streaming (at least back before I moved to a place with AT&T's crap internet), though getting shut down is a bit of an issue and I haven't done it in a while. Used to be able to give HD streams to the team subs for UT and Texans games. If only Bittorrent kept working on their streaming idea...
My wife and I cut cable 3-4 years ago and haven't looked back. Programmed TV is such garbage these days and the only thing I need is to watch the Texans or any NFL game.
1) Purchased a $40 TV antenna for local channels http://www.amazon.com/RCA-ANT751-Durable-Compact-Outdoor/dp/B0024R4B5C/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1429805337&sr=1-3&keywords=tv+antenna
2) Netflix $8.95 a month, doesn't get a lot of new content but has whole TV series which can keep you occupied
3) Texans come on Local Channels
4) ESPN App, if you know anyone that does pay for cable tv and they dont mind sharing their password you can get ESPN through Roku or similar devices.
5) Basketball - Wife found an basketball streams app that is $60 for a year and you can stream every basketball game.
6) Game of thrones - No comment :)
TLDR, cable companies suck big time. You can watch anything you want with a little creativity (legally) and most likely for cheap. Currently spend $163 a year on TV programs versus $900+ we used to pay and haven't looked back.
On android, the app Sports Radio FM worked for me today in Seattle. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.radiosonline.sportsradiofm
I too got that out of area message in the Texans app. I will warn based on previous seasons, it might just randomly stop broadcasting games with out warning and instead broadcast an out of network message, but, at least today, it worked beautifully.
