They have an announcement/banner on top of their official site and also announced it on twitter : https://twitter.com/relicgames/status/1431046494371553284
They will probably talk about HRE/Rus mostly but it says the will take community questions. I don't think we'll get any news for beta or a real gameplay footage but let's see!
Edit: lol bots are getting wild here.
Nope. If they have another beta they'll probably announce it at least a few days in advance so a beta this weekend is extremely unlikely. At this point the devs have a long list of small quality of life features and other bits of polishing people would like so I'm not sure how much value there would be in having another beta -- the devs have enough on their plate as is.
The devs recently announced a series of events as part of the countdown to release and no beta is mentioned on the calendar but we can look forward to developer show matches and streamed interviews with devs every Friday. They'll also be releasing comprehensive civ overviews during this time. We can look forward to a showmatch between the HRE and English this Friday.
It's part of their Countdown to Launch event : https://www.ageofempires.com/news/start_countdown_to_launch/
They release small information, gif or video it seems everyday until countdown. Check their twitter and the recent messages : https://twitter.com/ageofempires
onight there is a HRE vs English stream.
Now why this video about the crossbow I don't know, they just made a choice among all the videos they have.
I think it's is the special ability from longbowman : https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/english/ (scroll down)
They can protect themselves better against cavalry. It's not a cover mechanic available to all the archers in the game as far as I know.
No idea if they took this from CoH but I suppose it's not the first time a game has something similar anyway.
It's a lot harder to make a full list of what each unit says in AoE4 than in AoE2 because the languages changes as you age up:
> Each Age has its distinct style from architecture to armor, with populations speaking Old English in the Dark Age and evolving to Early Modern English by the Imperial Age.
We don't know. Today is their start of their countdown to release and they have streams planned : https://www.ageofempires.com/news/start_countdown_to_launch/
Another beta is still possible but less likely I guess with that countdown event.
Really depends how much the items from the Deluxe version are worth to you. There is no special access or huge reward for the Deluxe Edition if this is what you are asking.
There isn't as far as I know. Here is still the best place but yeah you have to go through a lot of threads to find some information, it's all over the place.
EDIT: There is this wiki : https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Age_of_Empires_IV
The official site is also good for the civs : https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/
Hi there! I'm a Community Coordinator for Age of Empires, and since we saw that some people were wanting this as a wallpaper we decided to make it happen! You can find a hi-res version in the wallpaper section here on our website: https://www.ageofempires.com/media/
We don't know, they didn't said announce anything about this.
If you want to see mongols you can in 2 and half hours here : https://www.twitch.tv/ageofempires
Casted showmatch mongols vs Abbasids. Others streams with French, Delhi and Rus are also already planned : https://www.ageofempires.com/news/start_countdown_to_launch/
Not across any mode, for a specific mode. So 10 games in 1v1 for example. Or 10 games in 2v2.
Then you can look up on the ladder:
That is a garbage take and you know it. If you'd bothered to read instead of making up pretend facts as you go. You would've known the reason for the English and Chinese being in the test, OP stated as much aswell.
"Balance work. For those that joined us, you will notice additional balance work that’s gone into both the English and Chinese civilizations."
In honor of what I have unilaterally declared to be r/aoe4 Mongol Week, I have posted this excellent music video for all your future pillaging needs. Please consider voting for Mongols in this week's civ poll: https://www.ageofempires.com/news/abbasid-dynasty-mongol-poll/ .
All my homies want to learn more about Mongols in aoe4.
They have be so silent that it's no wonder some people might think there are only 6 civs but they revealed the name of the last two civs officially at E3 and updated the civs pages too : https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/
We should finally get a reveal (with a trailer) on Rus and HRE during Gamescom, maybe during the Xbox stream on the 24th and hopefully they'll update their site too.

Try searching for "The Rus," rather than "Russia." Here is the basic overview page on the official website.
You can see some of what is described on that page and more in action in this HRE vs. Rus showmatch.
Moscow was sacked by Mongols in 1238 (can be found in ru Wikipedia). Which fits the narrative of: "Hardened by devastating invasions, political instability, and bitter winters, the Rus were built for survival" (https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/rus/).
Once mods are added, it’ll probably be easier on steam. But who knows. If you ever want to try to access game files yourself, that’s generally easier to do with steam, as the ms store has content protection baked into windows itself. Most people already have a steam library and not a ms store library, so it’s just simpler to keep it all on steam.
For most people, probably no difference between steam and ms store.
Also, you can get 12% off for steam. https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/age-of-empires-iv-pc/?tap_a=1964-996bbb&tap_s=2247110-96db87

Make sure you have at least 10 matches or else you wont have an ELO yet.
Im not sure if you need 10 matches overall or 10 matches in an specific gamemode (1v1)
Glad to be of help.

Well, i was in the beta too so i have my guesses too.
The page of the HRE and Rus is up too and it describes the Landsknecht as following "The Landsknecht is a light infantry unit with a two-handed sword, adept at area-of-effect damage."

I ordered it for 73NZD from GreenmanGaming https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/age-of-empires-iv-pc/
Cheapest place I have found so far.
>Most pros and high ELO players have over 500 matches.
High ELO players definitely don't have over 500 matches.
Most are at 50-100 matches right now.
They made a leaderboard but it only shows the top 200 (and sometimes takes ages to update anyway). No communication if that's by design or they will let everyone see. We know ranked is coming next year sometime with presumably better support for ladders and elo etc.
currently "ranked" is same as previously:
quickplay is based on elo and leaderboards can be found at https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv filters: Global -> Players -> Quick Match -> 1v1 for example
Season based ranked system will be available later
Isgreen talks about it here as well as the planned Spring update which will add seasons.
Right now on the official site you can go to community -> stats to view your personal stats as well as the top players in each Age game.
unfortunally there are not such thing and technically we aren't allowed to talk about the content in the closed beta, but if you played the stress test you know how the base tech tree looks like and you can read their bonuses in the official website https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/delhi-sultanate/ (don't tell anybody but the way that their Scholar mechanic works is that you need nine to reach the research speed of the other civs)

Yeah the wording is interesting but we can only speculate.
https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/mongols/
They also have a landmark that acts as a market and builds faster and cheaper traders. They might get a strategy to play an eco game instead of being a rusher/heavy attack civ.
I feel like the whole market/traders/trade carts is important for the gameplay and it should theoretically be an important part of the gameplay and map control. Mongols could be really strong with their raids to deny the map control and any market activity to their enemy while setting up a huge trade for themselves. A trade boosted by one of their bonus. But let's not forget that the leak is not official and also that a lot of things can be changed, reworked until the game comes out for balance reasons.
Hi everyone and thanks for all your comments
I pulled the trigger and got the Zotac 3060 Ti 8GB gfx card, namely this one to be exact:
I went from 34fps on my GTX 980 Ti card, and up to 60fps on this GTX 3060 Ti card, which is the maximum for my 38" inch Dell Ultrawide monitor (DELL U3818DW) running the game now on 3840x1600 pixels with everything maxed out and it is smooth!
What a difference this makes, it's like night and day ... the side panning and up/down panning. It's beautiful and the card makes so much less noise than my GTX 980 Ti which was top of the line when I bought it, 6 years ago or something.
I know I'm not up to date with my ram and cpu but I only play AOE4 and do work stuff ( software development ) on my machine so this upgrade is perfect for my casual AOE4 games.
This 3060 Ti is a keeper ! Thanx everyone, I just wanted to update you all if somebody is thinking about a similar upgrade on their rig :-)
>EDIT: none of the comments yet have answered “what are you playing on?” I’d love to hear more of these answers, especially if you have a laptop in the 1k price range
I have a purpose built Age Machine, but occasionally ill play on my Laptop. Its a 2019 HP Envy ryzen 5 8gb ram integrated amd graphics. Lowest settings, errors every time i launch, still finishes 4v4 QM while on comms.
I think both the R5 options look great as well, and i would suggest newegg as another website to browse options.
I’ve done some research and found a good one. This is the one I’m ordering
you can get it used on ebay for cheaper. The key is to get a graphics card that has vram on it, and also the computer should have 16 gb of regular ram.
After some digging I found out some stuff. Vram is on the graphics card, and i looked for a decent computer with a graphics card that had Vram on it. (This is the one i’m ordering). Thanks a lot for the info about vram.
This is a gamechanger and it's -in part- how I've been able to climb from a bronze league bomber to gold level player (now diamond after bump).
Get yourself an MMO mouse:
Map your control groups to the mouse. I use 1-9 for groups and 10, 11, 12 as cycle through vills, military, and scouts. I still keep my select all building types to 1-8 on my keyboard so I can select all of them then CTRL + mouse button number to bind. When I start a game, TC = 1, and my two scouts are 2 and 3. As the game progresses I map 1=TC, 2=Barracks, 3=AR, and 6=Stables, 5=Siege. Any other random buildings like Market or if I want to control unit groups, I use 7-9 for those. This allows me to cycle my production rotation constantly without ever having to camera pan and click the buildings.
After that like others have said, practice using your grid keys, particularly Q+Q, Q+A and shift click for farms. And Q+W, E, or R for your production buildings. You practice this with this online tool.
I heard someone say the MMO mouse is cheating. Not sure how it's cheating, you're literally just changing which buttons you are using for your keybinds. Creating a macro that somehow performed multiple actions in 1 click I would consider cheating.
Back in 2021 i was absolutely hungry for an AoE replacement on mobile. I found a nice suitor which i highly reccomend:
Overwolf is basically the app that the spawning tool people used to allow the in-game overlay. I used it all the time to use spawning tool fore live build orders in my game.
As far as I understand, Overwolf is just a platform where you can create gaming apps basically, so something like this would be perfect for it. https://www.overwolf.com/app/overwolf-spawning_tool_build_advisor
https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv
Go here. Type your Microsoft player name (it’s case sensitive so capital letters matter) and click the search icon.
You have a different rating for 1v1, 2v2, etc
I believe it calculates your opponent differently and how much elo you get but you don't lose it no. Go to https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv to check your elo, your winrate should still be there just fine. Patches probably just hinder game history and also they don't store that forever I would assume.
Muscovy Duchy is represented in the Imperial Age. :) This info is in the official Rus page from AoE4. ^-^ But from Age I to III the Kievan Rus is portrayed influenced by different tribes and invasions. https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/rus/ :D
It's not hidden. If you have played 10+ games, you are on a leaderboard. aoeiv.net or https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/ if you want to see where you are ELO wise and where you are compared to others.
I am unsure what you mean.
We have a roadmap https://www.ageofempires.com/news/whats-next-for-age-of-empires-iv/
We got communication and patch previews, last weeks were holidays so obviously not happening much.
What is this strange attempt from a few people om this sub to gaslight the community into thinking we get no communication and that everything sucks?
Just get a Shadow pc.
I've been using it for years, remote connect to a gaming pc whenever and wherever. I'm 1300+ elo so latency isn't an issue if you have decent internet.
Sounds like OP already has an NVME boot drive so they wouldn't even need to reinstall Windows. With something like this they could even copy all of their HDD data to the new SSD, assign it the same drive letter and notice nothing but the faster speeds.
For current(ish) gen PC games, there's almost no difference between SATA and NVME so if anything you slightly undersold the benefits. 😁
True, but your connectivity depends heavily on the provider and even their local ban lists. For three years I was doing just fine with Battle.net staying online after the initial login help with Astrill, but then I couldn't.
Same with Steam. China Unicom by far worked the best for me, but now I am forced to use Telecom and it's a hot mess. I'd wish I didn't have a need in VPN to play AOE, since even LegionTD clocks good latency, but unfortunately I need it.
This crash in particular normally happens in the first 5ish minutes of a game so it may not be the one you're encountering. It would also be happening for EVERY game the Linux user plays so most people have resolved it already.
Here's the ongoing GitHub issue. It contains many other bugs that we're working through but someone encountered the aforementioned crash.
I can play multiplayer like this yes, there's a need to apply a small fix to your proton prefix in order to prevent a desync bug but other than that it runs really smoothly. Except since the patch last week, that seems to have fucked something up and it's not Linux related as plenty of people have been having problems with desyncs since the latest patch.
Trueskill is very cool, but do you have any evidence of it in use for AOE4? By contrast, the official ranking page calls it's rating ELO, and AOE2DE is definitely using standard ELO even in team games.
AOE4 keeps ELO rankings for quick play aswell
https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/
Fill in your AOE4 name and you can see your elo and stats. It's a nice overview that you don't really get in game because both solo and team games are mixed together.
I've been watching a ton of team games (2v2 - 4v4) of the top players on the ladder (https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv) and I have to say, much to my surprise, in about 20 games I've watched I've seen fire lancers twice. And they won once. Similarly with this "everyone just masses bombards" complaint I hear on reddit, I think the most bombards anyone managed to mass was around 6 and the game was basically over by then anyway.

I think the big big difference between top level team games and the perception reddit has of game balance is that top level teams almost never sit there and macro for 20 minutes before engaging. It gets a lot harder to tech up to fire lancers with 20 horse archers in your base. And bombards are awfully expensive.

This is not to say either should NOT be nerfed... but I think the typical redditor experience in team games is coloured by the fact that the more 1) inexperienced, and 2) lower skilled ANY given player is, the more likely they are to default to a turtle + death ball strategy because macro + micro at the same time (like with an early push) is uncomfortable.
These are the patch notes for the patch that should be coming out sometime this week. I don't know at this time if its complete or if new things will be added to it.
There is an official ladder on the AOE website, your ELO is public knowledge. You can compare yourself against other players just fine, you just have to check your rank outside the game for now.
well, we've officially posted it now: https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-of-empires-iv-patch-9369/ ^(totally not forced to at all, nope)
Well, it's stated on their own Homepage.
"What are the consequences of breaking this Code of Conduct?
Players found to be violating the Xbox Community Standards or this Code of Conduct are subject to enforcement action. The type of enforcement action is based on the type, frequency, and nature of the violation. If we take enforcement action, then you may forfeit the ability to play the game. Information about in-game bans can be found in the following articles in our Support center."
"I have literally not encountered a single cheater in my ~40 hours of gameplay so far, and I have been looking for them in post lobby since the Reddit constantly reminds me about it." - OPSpock: "This statement is highly improbable. It would imply that the OP knows of all the exploits and has carefully reviewed all of the replays. Here are some still outstanding exploits that have not been fixed in the latest update as admitted by the developers in the latest update notes:Additionally, we wanted to call out a few known issues we know you’ve reported and are actively working to fix:Certain civilizations are able to collect infinite resources by deleting buildingsCertain buildings, when combined with an Imperial Age tech, refund too many additional resourcesThe Abbasid Dynasty have several technologies that can be researched above and beyond the usual amount." - https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-of-empires-iv-winter2021-update/Nardev during last match he lost: "Aha! 5 relics by Rus! This is highly suspicious! I will watch the replay...watches the replay and realises it was a legit win..."The point of the story: by keeping exploits out there and not top priority you create FUD as is proven by the debates on this subreddit
https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age-of-empires-iv-winter2021-update/
Last paragraph,
> Additionally, we wanted to call out a few known issues we know you’ve reported and are actively working to fix:
> The Abbasid Dynasty have several technologies that can be researched above and beyond the usual amount.
Are you playing quick match or custom? I played 10 quick matches in general (some 1v1, some 2v2, some 4v4 etc..) then i played mostly custom.

when i search my name in the custom leaderboard, i get my ELO reading.
note that I still dont have my ELO reading on quickmatch > 1v1 or 2v2 or any other subcategory as I dont think i played enough matches on those sub category types.

https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/
" You'll need to complete 10 qualifying matches for your initial ELO calculation and placement on the Leaderboard. After you've completed those matches, you should see your name on the Leaderboard."
Which one are you refering to? Since there isn't a wiki dedicated specifically to AoE4 afaik. I know there is https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/, but if this is what you were refering to, I highly disagree..even right now if you check, there's barely any true info, except the quick bits for every civ, you can't even check unit stats, they just mention the unique units for every civ, some general, not very useful tips and that's about it. If you know a different one, please post it here.
I do agree that map generation is broken sometimes with where it places sites, but those cases are nowhere close to the majority of maps.
Also there is a 30% tax on sending resources, so if 4 people are banking together that is even more that they are not spending on army.
Neither of those points really change anything about the core argument though - if one team is able to collect enough resources on one person to build a wonder while being down 50 heavy cav's resources worth of units, then either the other team hasn't started offensive actions early into the game and kept them up to force their opponents to spend money on units, or they have and the other team team being able to match that 3v4 means there's such a skill difference that they would win regardless of whether or not wonder victory exists.
If you're having problems imagining how such early aggression can be achieved, I recommend going to https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/ , changing the game mode to 4v4, copying the names of the top players into your game client at friend menus -> add friend, clicking on their profile from there and watching a few replays. I did this a week or so ago to learn some strategies to apply to my team games with friends, and what I've noticed is most games are decided at the 15-30 min mark, with really strong early to mid-game pushes being the norm. Even people not trying to rush a wonder get streamrolled and lose at 20 minutes regularly, you can imagine what would happen if they played extremely greedy instead
You already have a ranked mode with quickplay so you will play people similar to your elo. Here are the leaderbords. The official season will probably give you some rewards but we have to see that first. :D
Unranked will assign you an elo after 10 games. Win, it goes up. Lose, it goes down.
Go here and search your username: https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv
Type your whole username and caps matter.
You cannot see ELO in game. On this website: https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/
Seperate ELOs for all the game modes (1v1, 2v2 etc). Have to play 10 games for each.
If your download speed is fast enough you could use a cloud pc from <em>https://shadow.tech/en-gb/</em>
A friend of mine is using it play various games including AoE3 and Anno, seems to work quite well as long as your connection is good enough.
Just an idea;)
It’s called a stream deck. You can set all the buttons to do things like open programs, go to websites, or all sorts of content creator stuff like switch scenes while streaming. Here’s a link to what it is.
Its because its extremely unlikely to cut off the head of any polearm/spear weapon in a single strike. After multiple strikes or vs a already damaged weapon sure.
If you want a deep dive I can recommend this book: https://www.amazon.com/Two-Handed-Sword-History-Design/dp/1526733137
https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/
Look at this page. How much does it mention the campaign and how much does it mention esports/competitive gaming?
It's not in game, but the rankings are on the age of empires website so I'd say they're pretty official. https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/
And you'll find both marinelord and mitoe I was talking about there.
until ranked comes available there isn't any difference between ranked and quickplay(quickplay won't be reset but ranked seem to be reset seasonally). both are based on elo and match you with equally skilled opponents.
You can see your quickplay elo and rankings on leaderboards https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/
quick play uses elo, you can see the ranking here: https://www.ageofempires.com/stats/ageiv/

basically currently your rank is just a number.
Takes a while for your hidden mmr/Elo rating to go beyond these people's Elo.
Afaik everyone starts at 1000 ELO.
The top 100 players are between 1300 and 1600 atm.
It takes time for the really bad people to drop significantly below 1000.
If you're just average you'll probably hover around 1000-1200 for a while, and so will keep being matched with fresh 1000s.

Yes it's on their official civ page : https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/french/
Read the Age 2 thing at the bottom.

Would they have said this 1 week earlier i would have saved up that weekend.
How are you ment to plan if they annouce it THREE days ago?
At work we are planning weekend shedules 4 weeks earlier...
3 days is even to short of a timeframe to find someone to switch.
Thx Microsoft Marketing. They cant tell me they didnt know about that date just now.
On the official site they use Landsknechte as plural on the civ page. Most people will use Landsknechts I suppose, it doesn't change much and everyone understand it.

“Do not describe any part of the Game on any venue unless we’ve instructed you to.” You can say you enjoyed the game or didn’t as long as you don’t describe the game itself. I’ve never come across an NDA that restricts personal expression.
https://www.ageofempires.com/nda
For example, this is fine: “I enjoyed the game but it didn’t hold my attention for long”
This is not: “I enjoyed the game, especially the part where the flying monkeys attacked the shark”
Couple non-obvious points:
What makes you think that they will have no horse cavalry ? In the civ's page on the official website, you can clearly see horses (age 3 and age 4 screenshots) : https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/civilizations/abbasid-dynasty/
Look at the military might section of the official website. I don't remember when it's seen in the video, sorry! I know that in one of spirit of the Law videos he shows them but he doesn't make the connection about what it is.
Are you referring to the circular mounds that the Mongols build on stone? If so, that's actually an Ovoo according to official site. We don't know yet if Mongols can build walls but the motivation for depleting Ovoos is probably to encourage the Mongols to be nomadic and move their base from place to place periodically. If they do lack walls it may be for gameplay/balance reasons but a good chunk of their bonuses seem to center around the mobility provided by the construction of outposts.
Well in this article it was said that the developers play the game every day and that it is now in a polishing phase. So I expect (and hope for) Q4 2021, but if it takes more than that, I'm fine with it too. I want a good release so that the game can have a big playerbase, not another AoE3 DE release.
Relic is a North American company and the little teaser gif they have on the Have You Seen Elric page shows what looks like a bald eagle flying over hills and woodland.
They later said in a news statement of the wonders they used for this ARG that:
> some from the Age of Empires games, and others which are yet to make their appearance!
The Arc de Triomphe and Iberian Gate have not been in previous AoE games. If they are in AoE IV that would hint at a game that takes place during or after the 1830s since construction of the Arc de Triomphe wasn't finished until 1836.
> Blizzard say that 80% of those who play SC2 campaign don't switch to multiplayer and that at some points more players play co-op mission than multiplayer:
20% is well over the number for AOE2. If 1/5 AOE2 player played multi-player, then AOE2 would be an e-sport. Right now the active player base for both AOE2 on Voobly and steam is at best 150K. There is significant overlap and multiple accounts on both platforms.

temperature is included at 83 degrees celsius which is nearly 30 degrees more than normal (currently have league of legends open max settings, wow open everything High and OSRS all at once) and it´s not even blowing at the same level as aoe4 requires.
Also for pc I have this one which is a pre build so that could be the reason that there are some parts I should swap, but honestly I haven´t the foggiest clue regarding what is fine / decent / trash anymore with the difference compaired to 10 years ago in computers all names practically changed to code for me.
It's hilarious how you pretty much bookended Russian history, then worked your way in. Hasn't anyone ever told you that's the worst way to eat a burrito??? Then again, you could argue you were shotgunning a beer 🤔
Is this the cheesy picture you're talking about? That's hilarious 🤣
To be fair, 1242 is when the Mongols destroyed Kievan Rus, and that's a massive break in continuity and rhythm. Ironically, due to my interest in the Mongols, this short intense war is probably much more familiar to me than the flourishing periods before and after.
