You should know that rationalwiki is not a reliable source of information.
Referring someone to NIH or an Encyclopedia would be far better options.
Eat your face off with the BZ Groupon, they give you so much and a little of everything.
The Melting Pot on Vernon Blvd has Ackee & Saltfish and it was pretty tasty...
This doesn't solve your problem...but....Earlier today someone told me to watch this absolute amazing video listed with this folding table on Amazon. It might make you feel very inspired about your decision to acquire a table.

Hey Fam,
Similar background here. I would really recommend Metiza. I have gone to 3 of their clinics around NYC and all of them are very clean and the owner takes customer service very seriously. She is lovely and has always treated me with respect. You MAY run into an ignorant technician (I did only in the Manhattan location, not in Astoria. I decided to use it as an education opportunity so she didn't speak to other customers this way. It was well received) but I have found overall, they tend to be professional and kind. They often have amazing Groupon deals. https://www.groupon.com/deals/mestiza-laser-clinic
> and having to use some janky ATM in the back that doesn't want to read my card, and charges me a 3 dollar fee
You're getting ripped off if you don't have a bank that reimburses all ATM fees.
Switching bank accounts is free. It doesn't require a credit-check. There's no reason not to move to something like Schwab High-Yield Checking. Their debit card reimburses all ATM fees, even internationally.
This is the best $20 you can ever spend for your two wheeled vehicle that you street park. It's VERY easy to put on and take off, and can fit in your pocket or bag when you travel with your scooter or bike.
I use one for my motorcycle in addition to a chain lock and cover. The audible alarm is a great deterrent to encourage potential thieves to move onto an easier target and it prevents them from simply being able to roll the thing away. In addition, look into getting a GPS Tracker or at the very least an Apple Airtag.
I’ve had this model for years and it’s great. Makes a huge difference in the house during the summer months.
Thank you so much to those of you who have taken the survey or responded here! I've received 121 responses so far, which is much more than I thought I would get. Check out the results if you haven't already!
Wondered about this too, so asked a bartender the one time I ever went in. He said it was part of "Hell's Kitchen Hospitality Group," some company that makes a bunch of bars that all look the same. They own Oliver's too. That place on Broadway. https://www.linkedin.com/company/hell%27s-kitchen-hospitality. Looks like there's a new place listed called "Astoria Craft" that is Coming Soon. So we can expect more of the same stamped out of the "cozy neighborhood bar mold" no doubt. Yawnz.
This is a pretty neat page that provides a little clearer windows of when it might actually rain. The models seem to have already updated the forecast even from when I checked earlier to have less daytime rain.
Ordered from Susuru Ramen on 36th Ave this week.
Got the Susuru Paitan Ramen and it was delicious. Very savory broth, very much on par with the higher end Ramen spots I’ve eaten at in the city (Jin, Totto, etc.) and reasonably priced. The proprietors are really lovely people, and she said she put some extra food in there for me to try - and to my surprise it was a pork bun! Very delicious bao, perfect balance of sauce, fatty pork and some fresh veg. It was towards the end of the day, so I assume it wouldn’t have kept til the following day, but I love that they do this.
A+ would definitely recommend.
Hello! I'm selling my dresser, this one to be exact.
I used it for a couple of months but I got lucky a friend was giving away his old wooden dresser so I have no need for this one anymore. Any questions feel free to ask!
I’ve been using the Honeywell HCM 350 which has a very easy to clean tank and can run all night. Whoever one you end up choosing, the most important thing to keep in mind with humidifiers is consistent cleaning, at the very least once a week.
SAME PROBLEM HERE they dont want to leave. fucking chewing up the cables and destroying everything. I caught a few but still no luck.
Here is something that HAS worked for me (put a piece of chocolate candy on it) I caught like 3 suckers in one day with this, it has 5 stars on amazon.. very good trust me.
I've posted this elsewhere, but read this book, The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker:
https://www.amazon.com/Gift-Fear-Survival-Signals-Violence/dp/0440226198
Trust your instinct. If you feel scared, there is probably a reason. Hence why it is a gift.
Also - I strongly advise not wearing airpods/headphones when walking/running alone at night or really any other time of the day. Headphones do two things: 1) You can't hear. 2) You're letting people KNOW you can't hear. I know this isn't popular to say and people love their music/podcasts and don't want to hear this. But the fact is there are bad people out there and you need me to be alert and aware of your surroundings. Hell, it could even be that you dropped your wallet and keys and a good Samaritan is trying to tell you that but you can't hear them (has happened to me while running).
I have no idea if this was the case here and I am certainly not victim blaming. The responsibility lies with the perpetrator.
I do it a little differently to avoid 125th traffic
Also I enjoy Vernon Blvd. down through bk and across the bridges. I have one route that hits all the big bridge over the east river. I usually do it after work leaving manhattan and go BK, Mn, QB, TB have yet to do it in reverse since the BK bridge get's congested an isn't the best place to ride on a weekend afternoon.
I've been wanting to go out into flushing and spinaround on the Kissena Velodrome but haven't made it out there yet this summer. I've made it halfway to the excellent Popeye's out that way.
I placed my order through Grubhub for pickup. Not sure why there is a discrepancy! Although it seems like now the braised beef with curry rice is also no longer on the Grubhub menu – I want to say it was under Famous Thai Platter when I ordered.
https://www.freecycle.org/ is a great site to post up the items youre giving away for free. The NYC one is pretty active and users get the email of the contents youre giving away right into their inbox.
Selling my rowing machine that's just collecting dust. Bought it September 29th, 2020 for $300 from Amazon and only used it for about 2 months. Joined a gym so the machine is just taking up space.
Amazon link for the model I purchased.
Everything works great. The only wear is the plastic knob/cover thingy which my puppy thought was a chew toy. It's only purpose is to stop the seat from sliding off the back when working out.
I'm over on Ditmars and 33rd. Sorry, no delivery.
Thanks!
It's totally doable! I have an indoor compost bin that I keep under my sink. It can get a little smelly but as long as I get to the drop off near me at least once a week it's totally manageable. To avoid creating extra production waste, I just throw scraps in there without a bag and wash the bin out after I empty it (local sites don't accept compostables like those green bags, just food scraps).
If I know I probably won't get to the composting sites before stuff gets stinky, I toss scraps a ziplock bag or a sturdy bag from packaged food products (like the bags sliced bread come in), carry them to the compost site, empty the bags into the bins and then bring them home to wash out and reuse.
I actually just did this for myself. I bought a 16" x 20" paint-by-numbers kit and it came as a loose canvas. I bought this wooden frame on Amazon which came with tacks, too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYQBKMX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I ironed my canvas first as it came folded and you could still see creases but after that and tacking it really tight, it looks great.
FYI I picked up my board last night, lejoost was really nice, and the art and boards are all made in Astoria, and of very good quality. I just ordered this skateboard deck hanger from Amazon and am looking forward to putting my little slice of Astoria up on the wall.

I have a French grammar workbook that I've never used. I used to work for a French agency and they offered free French lessons for a few weeks then cancelled it when everyone was too busy to show up for the lessons (sad). This is what I have: https://www.amazon.com/Grammaire-Progressive-Francais-Intermediaire-Livre-web/dp/2090381248
Happy to give it to you if you want it!
I'll be one of the first to sign up for an in-person class whenever it's offered.
What's your opinion on knife sharpeners like this one from Henckels? I have both this and a sharpening stone (1000/6000) and I've tried both without much success. Though to be honest I don't think I'm using either properly.
Not sure why someone downvoted you, but this is actually a pretty good setup.
Full disclosure, I have one of thse pull thrus and occasionally if I get a really abused western knife I'll save the guess work and use it to set a new edge.
If you are using a western knife like a Whusthof or Henkel, or any other german brand, even Cutco for the matter, the blade angle is going to be somewhere between 17 and 22 degrees. If your knife can support this angle (IE its not a calphlon or cuisinart) then this a great way to reset the edge before moving down the stones. If you can visibly see knicks on your edge use the pull thru you might have to run it a couple times until you feel it cutting the blade (depending on how dull your knife is) next move up the grits on the stones, using the 1000 to refine then the 6000 to polish. imagine flipping an almost microscoping burr back and forth (can see it if you look closely, you can definitely feel it), once you work one side and go to the other, dont bother going back, you are actually doing more harm than good because you risk snapping the burr off. Once you finish on 6000 you can then alternate sides to "cut" the bur off. Think of it like removing the tab to a soda can. Bonus points if you have an old belt lying around, cut it and glue it to a wood block. and you want to repeat this maneuvuer on leather. start with the knife almost flat and alternate bringing it just past the working angle. This will pot a mirror finish on the blade and you should be able to slice paper with ease. if you want to pony up.
If you dont feel like finding a peice of leather I use this one from (amazon)[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH8YGQ1?pd_rd_i=B07MH8YGQ1&pf_rd_p=55defc4a-7c1e-47a7-8d1d-5cc458cca688&pf_rd_r=N7SKSBV9ATYW56DXFPTX&pd_rd_wg=U64bS&pd_rd_w=4Xsxz&pd_rd_r=06d4f929-dfaf-424a-9295-083691f117ec] It even comes with some polishing compound!
I just find it easier to transport my compost to the bin inside a bag. I have a bin that fits on my freezer door, and I line it with a compostable bag and dispose of the bag when it fills up.
Water bottles are not animal abuse. It does not hurt the cat. It is supposed to scare them. That is how it works with them. I don't think any sane, reasonable person thinks spraying a cat with a water bottle to correct bad behavior is somehow animal abuse.
So, I don't want to make assumptions about your intellectual capacity, so I will offer a suggestion in case you can't figure this out:
Keep a water bottle OUTSIDE the door, and spray through the door when you open it. Do it long enough and the cat will stop trying to get out. Leave the water bottle AT THE DOOR. Buy a motion-activated cat spritzer and leave it in the path of the door.
Sounds like you graduated from the Maybe Logic Academy. Let's use e-prime from now on so as not to be misunderstood.
I'd recommend investing in a kill-a-watt to measure power consumption directly at your outlets. If you're around the Ditmars area I'd by happy to lend you a spare one I have. Chances are there's one or more devices using more electricity than you think and this device will help you identify just how much power they use which you can then multiply by your electric rate on your bill.
You can report them immediately via the 311 all. Takes under 2 mins
I report this shit all the time, it's phenomenally selfish and makes it hard for anyone with a mobility issue to safely use our already dangerous sidewalks.
Report them every time.

> How long did that take? I like long walks, but... sheesh!
I left at 6am near Astoria Blvd and arrived 10 till noon.
> Did you stay the night there? Cab it back?
Nah, just Q to the N. Already back in Astoria.
> Congrats. That's an accomplishment. I bet your dogs were barkin by the end of that.
I recently completely walking 100% of the NYC subway system. Now I'm just doing really long / interesting walks, so I'm pretty used to it.
> Also... what shoes you wear?
I got some relatively cheap / ugly new balance shoes from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BNMLT6K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They usually let me do 20 miles no problem. But I did have to work up that length. A lot of my earlier walks were topped out at 10 miles.
Rather than wind, why not suncatchers? They would only clunk together if they were not spaced correctly. Of course, if your neighbors did not like rainbows, then you could put them up at night!
These I use in a window.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KFYNWCP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They achieve the dynamic effect without audio.
Ordered the solar powered Kikkerland rainbow maker via Amazon, despite the reviews that said it did not work from the start.
It did not work from the start.
I am now waiting for a replacement,
Sadly I am an expert at mouse infestations. My previous apartment had a hole in the brick wall behind the radiator and it took years until a good super came along and figured it out.
Lots of great tips here, but would recommend picking up a Rat Zapper trap. It zaps the mice in a tube, so hopefully more humane than a glue or snap trap, and less messy as you don't have to necessarily look at a dead mouse.
In an ideal world, maybe I'd use a humane trap, but this is a city and I'm not sure where I would release them. Honestly I didn't feel too humane when I had a full out infestation eating my food, pooping everywhere, and potentially bringing disease into my apartment.
I usually load it with peanut butter dog treats or I put some peanut butter in a beer cap and slide it in. It's reusable and amazing! I own 2 and use rechargeable batteries. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002665ZTC/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_kW2EEb47JH6A5

Keurig K40 Elite Brewing System - great working order and condition. I have 5 reusable K Cups I will throw in as well as new filters. DM for any questions. https://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K40-Elite-Brewing-System/dp/B000AQPMHA
I use this and this for any messes on the couch or carpet (the carbona works wonders for when my cat throws up on the rug). Put a shit ton of baking soda over the stain as well, and vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. You’ll have to apply the solutions, let them sit, and wipe up, over and over again. Do it as many times as possible (even if it feels excessive). If you’re really aggressive it can work—I did all this and completely got cat pee out of my mattress. Of course, if it’s an old stain you might be out of luck.

+1 to air filter, i think it's one of the easiest things you can do to help. if it doesn't help the smell, it'll at least help with the actual air quality in your apartment.
if you get one, make sure you get one that takes a HEPA filter. if it doesn't explicitly state that, it's bullshit.
i have this one and it's great

I can pretty much guarantee you that the dealer would not even notice it let alone penalize you if they found out that you added that accessory upon lease return.
If it’s a Prius, very cheap and effective options exist like this one.
The only special tool you need to install that is a pop riveter which is about $20. Or most independent garages or muffler shops would probably charge you around $100 to install.
I've taken two of my dogs to Astoria Veterinary Group for dental scaling. They do need to be sedated for that procedure, and anesthesia can be tricky for senior dogs just like it is for elderly people. So wherever you go, if you're looking at dental scaling, have a conversation about anesthesia with the vet first.
If you can brush your dog's teeth regularly with a toothbrush and proper vet approved toothpaste, you can avoid expensive dental cleanings. I'm too lazy for that these days, so I give my dog this powder that was recommended by Dr. Smith at AVG:

Shoes
These are the best for our guy. He will simply remove any other kind of shoe.
Takes some practice to put on, but nothing else works.
yeah, and it's been out of stock for a bit on schwinn's site. doesn't include tax, plus time to assemble and tune up. if you've ever bought one of these schwinn's where you have to assemble it yourself, not uncommon for brakes/derailleurs to need some attention out of the box, which you'd be surprised how many people would just bring it to a bike shop and shell out more $ there.
it's in stock on amazon for $390 (in this color, looks like navy is the same look for $30 cheaper), but same jam, add tax and then you gotta assemble the thing. if that's your thing, do it!
I wish I had seen this earlier, Amazon was selling them with one day delivery. Keep an eye on the page maybe they'll restock asap
The QR form does ask for your ss#. Here is the link, as you progress through it, it asks for it.
You're close to me as well, 27th by 23rd and 24th. For quiet you can go to Astoria Park during the week, there are plenty of places to hide and sit by yourself. Protip: If you walk all the way down to the river over by the track and field area and hop over the fence, there's a small outcropping that looks like an old boat dock of sorts you can sit on that is pretty peaceful. Indoors, Mosaic is pretty quiet during the day if you want to go have a drink and just meet up with a few people or bring a magazine and sip some delicious watermelon beer.
There's a group of us who all like to get together for all kinds of different things in all kinds of combinations. Usually larger events are announced on le Facebook as it's the easiest way to message and organize everyone.

I was by east ditmars... if you look at wikimaps (http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=40.782231&lon=-73.897734&z=14&m=b)... just look at all the crap to the north (and west on randalls island). (powerplant, water treatment plants, airport. I could barely open the windows in the summer. Not even exaggerating, it was pretty disgusting. Terrible, terrible sewage smells and strong exhaust.
Does any one have any suggestions for a venue?

I was initially interested in using the WeWork at Studio Square since they now provide free space to Meetup.com organizers, but unfortunately that location does not participate in the offer. I saw the Geekery (a board game store) on Yelp - they have tables you can rent by the hour. I've never been there so I'm not sure how it is, how big it is, etc. Bohemia has a big space downstairs that could maybe work. Any other ideas?
I assume you have one of the radiators that have steam air vents. I had this issue at one of my old apartments where the thermostat was in the ground floor apartment (2 story) and it was always warmer down there so my heat would never kick on fully. I bought an adjustable vent and opened it all the way up and it corrected the issue.

Fios is faster and fios beats cable.
Even if cable days 1gb download speed, your 300mb fios might just be quicker and more stable.
Also buy your own router instead of renting theirs. Your bill should be exactly $40 a month since internet isn’t taxed in nyc and you won’t be paying the monthly rental fee for router

I'll usually go to Prospect Park, Central Park, or Coney Island, but I like to do a little exploring sometimes too. Flushing Meadows was nice. My gf and I rode out there a few weeks ago, set up a hammock, and had a nice little picnic. I just did the ride to the Palisades (9w) last weekend. It was a good ride, and it's fairly easy to get there from Astoria. I used part of the route from Strava but went across the Triboro > Randall's Island > Manhattan instead of starting in Midtown.
https://www.strava.com/local/us/new-york-city/cycling/routes/655
Riding to City Island from Astoria isn't bad either. I rode there with a friend a month and a half ago. I think it was about 35-40 miles or so. Also pretty simple to get to for the most part.
The CityMapper app has always been good to me =)
If you don't use it currently, I'd give it a shot, all the info you could want about the subway trains (and much much more) is in there
Just an FYI, for those with decent gaming PCs (specifically those of you with powerful CPUs and good cooling systems) BOINC lets you use your CPU / GPU for different research applications, and the Baker lab at University of Washington is researching proteins, now specifically viral proteins to help understand how to develop antivirals for SARS-COV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Super easy to set up, I have it configured to run whenever I'm away from my computer for more than 5 minutes.
To answer OP's question, though, GTA:V, Insurgency, Witcher 3 (held off on playing until I got my new computer a couple weeks ago, boy is it pretty).

The snap traps can cause blood to splatter. If you're reusing it, that means you're going to have to get your hands close to it to clean it unless you just want dried up mouse blood all over the trap.
These would last you years and can be used to catch insects as well for under 33 cents each. If you catch a mouse, toss it away.
I'm not arguing against snap traps. I just don't see it as inhumane if you use glue traps. They are a pest, not a domestic pet. Technically killing any animal would be inhumane considering they are just organisms trying to survive so I really don't understand the inhumane part.
Window locks . These are great. They set a stop point for how much your windows can open.
So I had it wrong. They’re 686 S1 not 685

There are heavy duty drywall anchors that you can use which doesn't have to be attached to a stud. Obviously it's better if you attach it directly to a stud but with the innovative anchors that we have today, these anchor screws are more than capable of holding MOST flat screen TV's.
I've used them to hang some extremely heavy floating shelves that have had more weight than them than a flat-screen TV and it has been able to hold more than 100 lbs confidently.

This is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084Z3MVJK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 like the Hypervolt but that is far more expensive. The one in the link does give me relief though.
It was my brother’s. He moved to Louisiana recently. They sell them on Amazon. Here is a link to one.

FYI if you’re going to install a window AC unit, I believe it’s a legal requirement to have a safety bracket installed. They’re not terribly expensive, and are very easy to install with a drill or screwdriver.
3 years old. It works great, we just needed something smaller. Pick up very close to Broadway N/W. $20 OBO.

I’m looking to sell this bike. I will include the mat you see in the picture. $75 cash, pickup around 30th Ave x 42nd st.
The bike works great, though you might want to reassemble it since it rattles sometimes. The bike company sent spare parts and instructions on how to fix it, which I can forward to you. This issue is why I’m selling it for a low price.
Nice try...it's $219 brand new on Amazon, not $509.
This is literally brand new. I made this two days ago and realize it might be too small for my purposes (with the speakers and swivel monitor stand). I can send it back to Amazon but I would rather just sell it on here first to avoid taking it apart and hauling it to a UPS store. I paid 120 total for it and I'll sell it for 100 to avoid the pain of doing all that. Plus, I did all the work!
Get yourself some steel wool and shove it in there. Then seal the gap with great stuff pest block foam.
This method should work pretty well with any openings. Check around all of your pipes in your kitchen. Check around radiators. And if your stove is gas, carefully pull it out and check around where the gas line comes out of the wall.
These things should be available at any hardware store. I know they have them at Home Depot and here they are on Amazon.

A two pack sorted my entire 2 bed apartment with a little left over. Genuinely so much easier than faffing around with a caulk gun. Best of luck!
Hi all 👋🏼 I’m cleaning up my work station and I’m looking to sell this standing desk converter for $20 (if you can pick it up too).
Zinus Molly Smart Adjust Standing Desk / Height Adjustable Desktop Workstation / 28" x 21" / Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078TP4ZBX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_P030BDKNVZES65VAF09Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
(I’ve also cleaned it after I took the photo, I promise)
I have a new (much older) rescue pup but I'm in the same boat in terms of energy levels. Sometimes she gets nippy when she has too much energy and actually walks aren't the *most* helpful because she needs to be more engaged. I personally have a session with Kapooch this week. Brianna isn't exactly cheap but she seems worth it from what I heard.
Some things I have found helpful with my pup when walking isn't helping:
I just throw her into a Sit / Stay for a second.
I stopped feeding my dog from a bowl and started using enrichment Toys, Freezing her dry food in broth / water or using a stuffed Kong for meal times so she has to work for her food.
Playing Tug or fetch
I'd also recommend this book. I started using this training program with my dog and it's been great.

This is a Joroto X2 : https://www.amazon.com/JOROTO-Magnetic-Resistance-Exercise-Stationary/dp/B07Q2697YN/
Purchased for $500 in June. Only selling because I'm moving and it won't fit. The bike itself is about as good as you're gonna get without springing for a Peloton. I also installed a Wahoo Cadence sensor ($40) I'm throwing in here.
Pickup required - would be around 23rd st and Hoyt. It's heavy but has wheels to move it.
You want to buy yourself something like this: https://www.amazon.com/MIMIVIVA-Extractor-Stripped-HassleFree-Hardness/dp/B08P1X8GNX/ref=asc_df_B08P1X8GNX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475715995816&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16922277157570691204&hvpone=&hvptwo=&...
You'll have it for a lifetime, and its handy in situations like this.
