Hi, you can start with translation of BLK wallet here: https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/blackcoin/ You need to create a new account and request to join our group. I'll grant you an access. We currently have 291 untranslated strings waiting for you:) Let me know if you need any additional help
Great, I've already read some good ideas lasts weeks so I'm going to write mine in here.
I recently had to install a Linux wallet and was very stunned that the software downloaded is not working out of the box even though I'm using one of the most used Linux desktop (Mint 17 64bits). After getting some help, I managed to compile my own wallet, which is now running fine in my computer.
.1. It would be great that the linux wallet available for download from http://www.blackcoin.co would work out of the box because many newcomers might not be comfortable enough in the terminal.
Maybe we need a link for Ubuntu (and clones), RedHat rpm, each in 32 and 64bits, tested and known to work out of the box.
.2. For Ubuntu it would be great to have a ppa for easy install with "apt-get install" command too and be listed inside the ubuntu software lst so customers only have one click to install the linux wallet direct from ubuntu store ! :-)
Since we have had this nice pop this afternoon backup to 25 k on high volume and gone backup to #9 in market cap, Mintpal is likely to quickly agree. This is especially true, since they now have 4 times the volume in BC as Cryptsy has and BC is their most profitable coin. It has their highest volume. .
You should thank them for their contribution to getting BC on Coinkite. See link below. You should indicate that, if Mintpal and BC can continue to forge a relationship that helps BC move up, Blackcoiners are likely to stick with them when one of the bigger exchanges adds blackcoin.
These kinds of campaigns are much more effective if everyone writes their own email, rather than, if everyone just copping someone else’s.
Well we have this

Gritt was intending to integrate this into the website, but has said that he has too much on his plate at the moment ( see his comment here : http://www.reddit.com/r/blackcoin/comments/30xtu2/development_timeline/ )
Anyone have the time / skills to help out some ?
I too believe that it is important to remind others of how much BLK has contributed to the wider ecosystem. Peercoin seems to have realised the importance of this type of activity recently, has stepped up twitter activity.
Welcome!
Use the official wallet at Blackcoin.co
There are a few pretty awesome community projects happening, buy coins while they're cheap! Price is lower than usual right now.
Have a look at: http://www.blackcoin.co/mining/blackfriday-the-official-launch-of-blackcoinpool-bonus-details/
Get your miners ready, the new pool launches the 4th of April, around 18:00 EST – 23:00 GMT. All shares delivered from 0:00 EST – 5:00 GMT will be counted towards the #BlackFriday promotion, right after last days payouts.
I agree with many that SMcKie & another join TheDoge in Washington, meanwhile I suggest Soepkip and the rest of us begin planning for the other upcoming Bitcoin conferences: https://bitcoin.org/en/events
These five jump out:
2014-06-24 ~ Hong Kong, China ~ Inside Bitcoins Conference & Expo
2014-07-01 ~ London, England ~ WIRED Money
2014-07-03 ~ Dublin, Ireland ~ Bitcoin Finance 2014
2014-07-28 ~ Tel Aviv, Israel ~ Inside Bitcoins Conference & Expo
2014-08-09 ~ St. Petersburg, Russia ~ Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies: Prospects for Development in Russia
If our Chinese brethren can get together and promote BC in Hong Kong that'd be cool.
London, Dublin & Israel are easy for Soepkip (and many others) to reach from within the EU.
Pavel (Rat4) may be able to gather a crew together - while staying anonymous himself - to visit St Petersberg.
BlackCoin boots on the ground, in more places! :)
Lovely stuff and thank you for the update!
Can the slack #general channel integrate with Gitter somehow? It'd be great to have a unified place for general BLK chatter.
EDIT: Found this: https://sameroom.io/blog/connecting-a-channel-in-slack-to-a-room-in-gitter/
Hey guys, I'm part of the Zetacoin community and we're looking to help other coin communities. I have a strong UX background, and have done free lance UX gigs for high profile brands. Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=50102494

We don't see our coin competing directly with your coin, so we're interested in creating a crypto community that collaborates with different coin communities. We find it in crypto's overall best interest to help each other where we can.
The official Bitcoin website states that Bitcoin is not anonymous. BlackCoin in itself has no privacy features which distinguish it from Bitcoin, so it may be misleading to say it is anonymous.
Hi guys, I'm Bobby, the co-founder of CoinGecko. Liking the discussion that you guys are having over here. We are listening to your feedback and refining our way of ranking cryptocurrencies.
Our main objective is to give a 360 degree overview of cryptocurrencies. We use metrics that can be fair to all coins. Blackcoin is doing well - I'm happy to see it hitting the top 10 once again. Keep up the great work that you guys are doing here. We are following your progress and are rooting for your success!
Step 1: Reimage to CentOS 6.5
Step 2: yum install -y gcc-c++ boost-devel db4-devel zlib-devel wget git wget http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.0.1h.tar.gz tar xzf openssl-1.0.1h.tar.gz cd openssl-1.0.1h ./config --prefix=/usr --openssldir=/usr/local/openssl shared make && make test && make install git clone https://github.com/rat4/blackcoin.git ~/blackcoin && cd ~/blackcoin/src
make -f makefile.unix
Hopefully someone has instructions for Ubuntu :) I can try tomorrow morning if not.
Here is how I successfully compiled and ran blackcoind on an updated CentOS 6.5 minimal install. This does not include upnp support. Though it seems the official openssl 1.0.1e should support ECC, blackcoind throws an error so I needed to install a newer version of openssl from source. Let me know if there are any problems or typos. This will be copypasted to www.kentuckypaws.com. Unfortunately, I don't know how to help with the second part of your request.
This was addressed in Blackcoin's PoS 2.0 implementation. This is copied from the whitepaper addressing this exact issue:
B. Changing the Stake Modifier In order to mitigate the possibility of the pre-computation attack, the stake modifier will be changed at every modifier interval – to better obfuscate any calculations that would be made to pinpoint the time for the next proof-of-stake.
Please refer to this link: http://www.blackcoin.co/blackcoin-pos-protocol-v2-whitepaper.pdf for some further reading on all of the improvements to come from this version.
I reread the whitepaper and found the comment that I was referring to:
>... Thus, taking out the coin age will require all nodes to be online more to get their stake reward. Saving up coin age is no longer a possibility with the new system that calculates the chance of staking as follows:
This line can be found nearing the end of the first column of the last page of the whitepaper - located here
Hi and welcome wtfbitcoinwtf! There are definitively other PoS coins that have been out longer, however BlackCoin was the first coin to go fully PoS. For a basic understanding of BlackCoin, I'd recommend checking out the main website which has just had a revamp http://www.blackcoin.co and is much more informative.
We also had a similar thread yesterday with a bit of info that also might help you out http://www.reddit.com/r/blackcoin/comments/279css/new_to_blackcoin/
Hope that's a good start!
Wow I was totally wrong then. Nevertheless, sounds interesting. The transaction speed alone is such a great feature. I wish cryptos had 10 minute confirmations, it's anything between 20 minutes to several hours. And people are claiming it's instant, it's far from it. Faster than banks (~1 business day) still though.
Holy shit I forgot about Coinkite. That sounds awesome. Do you have confirmation from them that they're gonna do this?
Pretty cool all in all, I'll stick around :)
edit: Found an article. Pretty exciting stuff. If the transaction is really killer fast, I can see it gaining ground purely based on that fact. A retailer may be more inclined to use BC because the transaction will go through way faster. Any idea of how widespread Coinkite is at the moment?
I use Mintpal to do Blackcoin trades. Then you can send to your wallet address. Once you have BC in your wallet, you can encrypt your wallet, but to stake, you'll need to have it unlocked. For more info go to: http://www.blackcoin.co/faq/ and check out http://www.dailyblackcoin.com/ for to date news
The steganography is a way to hide the data that needs to be sent in the email so its not a jumble of text.
It does not work with Bitmessage, only regular email. All email in Halo is encrypted but not pay to email because we would need to trade public keys respectively.
Pay to emails can be password protected to prevent people from hacking into your email and taking them.
The way Pay to Emails work is like so: You send your private key hidden in an image to someones email address with or without a password. They do not need Blackcoin to receive these payments. Then they download BlackHalo and when they set up that email address BlackHalo will automatically see the email and spend it.
Now yes it is true that the sender of the payment still knows the private key. This is why we make them wait for confirmations to spend and the sender must wait for 24 hours a filter which they could remove. But the receiver will wait to make sure he gets the payment.
The reason why this is good for tipping is because if somebody does not redeem your P2M you can of course redeem it yourself.
As for Bitmessage, the idea of using the Bitmessage public key to pay coins is a pretty good one. When sending an email in Bitmessage you make a public key request and that public key you could probably pay in Bitcoin using the old and somehwhat outdated "Pay to public key".
So really, it can be done but its a different protocol. And by the way, would be pretty anonymous since sending coins and receiving them would happen asynchronously. Could it be a good platform for an anonymous payment system?
I would say payments to Bitmessage addresses is a good idea, they do use private and public keys and here is how their addresses are created.
https://bitmessage.org/wiki/Public_key_to_bitmessage_address
Problem identified! Bitmessage needs to be updated.. eventually we should start a halo version of bitmessage until they fix it themselves or even send them the fix. https://bitmessage.org/forum/index.php?topic=4052.0
Hello Xian
My name is Xerxes (xranby), I'm a software developer who typically specializes in vendor independent crossplatform development by working upstream with different free software and open source project teams. https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=73835641
I have mostly contributed to the blackcoin community by testing and reporting issues early when new blackcoin applications and online services are launched to make the early first blackcoin experience better.
My family runs a blackcoin accepting yogastudio. http://www.gongiversum.com/en/blackcoin/accepted/
I like your vision with emphasis on creating free software and open source decentralized solutions! I hope we can find ways to collaborate.
In the meantime, if you want to get your coins off an exchange, feel free to use the Android app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.obsidiancvt.payblk&hl=en_GB or just go to https://payblk.blackcoin.io
Or indeed use the original wallet with the bootstrap which shouldn't take too long (well, less than a day) to sync up.
Yes I mean the Yuan
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/yuan-chinese-stocks-slide-after-beijing-moves-on-repo-risks-2014-12-09
And the regimes are what's going to cause this drive only further. It's not just China either. Whatever they're doing they're extremely good marketing for Asia as a whole. And then I'm in particularly looking at India. These people REALLY want to get out of the current system.
> Then if it centralizes BTC is completely useless and will only serve as an enslavement tool.
I love you for those sentences :) Again, there will still be no central authority that is able to create coins or change balances, and in my opinion this is the most important point of cryptocurrencies. In order to transferring funds there will be many solutions and trust has a price, so trusted third party solutions will be cheaper and therefore preferred. This doesn't change the fact that there still will be the possibility to transfer coins in a trustless way.
> Faster blockchain syncing how exactly?
> Why would people want an IOU from the bank?
Because its cheaper, more convenient, and faster, so many people will prefer them.
> And eventually it turns into registering your public key as a replacement for your social security and being forced to pay fines taxes and tariffs because its a hard coded part of the protocol.
On a voluntary basis this actually would be pretty cool :) But its not a consequence of the IOUs, because the Chinese mining farms probably won't agree on such a protocol change.
That's what I am trying to say, CONSENSUS must remain absolutely decentralized and I am totally on your side that there is no trade-off in that. Everything on the blockchain must be true. But this doesn't mean that you cannot build services that allow to perform BTC equivalent transactions without using the blockchain, as long as the customer is aware of what that means. ChangeTip is a good example for an existing system like that.
The magic red bar has been updated:
>We have done partial payouts for X11 payout rounds 05/20/2014-05/21/2014 and 05/21/2014-05/22/2014 - Once RightCoin wallet is fixed, we will send the remaining balances for those 2 rounds. More information can be found here https://medium.com/blackcoin-pool-news/7e455f557a3a or by clicking our "News" section. We will provide updates as they develop on this matter.
We do support BTC-USD price. On the main chart, at the top left, there is a currency switcher you can use. or on the price chart page ie. http://coingecko.com/price_charts/bitcoin/usd you could switch between different national currencies if you like to
Is that what you are looking for? Or is there a different BTC-USD price that you are thinking of?
+/u/blacktips 0.5671 BC
Hi /u/Tigerpanda2010 , we do support converting the price into national currency
Above the chart on the left, there is a currency switcher that you can use to flip the price and market cap into the currency of your choice. Your browser will also remember it.
We also have price graph for various national currencies like USD, EUR, and so on.. http://coingecko.com/price_charts/blackcoin/usd http://coingecko.com/price_charts/blackcoin/eur
Hope that helps, and do let me know if it appears confusing or obscure.

Upon further thought, I think the environmental/green angle is a really strong one, and one which should be pushed above all. There should be articles/blogs written which point out not just how much energy bitcoin uses now, but also how much bitcoin will use in 5 years time if it continues it's current growth rate (probably astronomical). Then, we don't need have to mention the PoS system, just say that blackcoin is the green alternative which does away completely with all that waste. These articles pushing blackcoin as the greener alternative could be spread on environmental websites, so those who are green conscious automatically consider blackcoin as their first choice as a cryptocurrency.
If that marketing push was successful, it seems easy to go to, say, Tesla (which obviously markets itself as a green car), and ask why they are accepting bitcoin but not the 'green' alternative, blackcoin. There are probably a great number of companies who try to choose the greener alternative when possible (for example Apple recently marketed this https://www.apple.com/environment/). If blackcoin is strongly marketed as the green alternative, backed up by strong articles and blogs, then it's easy to go to all the big companies that accept bitcoin and request they give people the green alternative for their cryptocurrency payment.
The great thing about that is you don't have to go into any technical jargon, it's easy to point out the energy waste of bitcoin. Just say that blackcoin is an improved bitcoin which completely does away with the wasteful mining. For that space, we are only competing with the other PoS coins, but none have pushed themselves into the public consciousness so it's a huge opportunity.
I am currently watching 2 decentralized exchanges and the implementation is very interesting both used tomp2p until they run into unstable relay issue. One had a talk with developer of tomp2p and he fixed it. The second one dropped tomp2p and is using akka. Definitely very interesting code (love open-source)
Oh quick feedback on the new theme, the links in the text are very similar to ordinary text:
So when I put the link in url tags like Blackcoin it is easy for a skimming reader to miss. It's just slightly too subtle.
Maybe this idea could be a proposal for a Blackcoin project to follow on http://www.blkfeed.com/blk
It would be great that the linux wallet available for download from http://www.blackcoin.co would work out of the box because many newcomers might not be comfortable enough in the terminal. It would be great to have a ppa for easy install with "apt-get install" command too and be listed inside the ubuntu software lst so customers only have one click to install the linux wallet direct from ubuntu store ! :-)
I've updated the website:
I've heard this is much better! :)
If anyone else has good suggestions though, and can webdev those suggestions (im really not design/front dev).. hit me up.
no, it isn't the blackhalo wallet which doesn't work, but my normal blackcoin wallet.
I mean i can use blackhalo wallet, but i can't open my normal blackcoin wallet from http://www.blackcoin.co/ where my coins are in.
Go to http://www.blackcoin.co then click "getting started" on the left menu. You have the choice of keeping your coins in a local wallet or an online wallet. If you want to stake your coins for interest, you will need the local wallet.
Next you will need to buy some Blackcoin. If you don't already have BTC, you can buy some through the fiat exchanges. I personally use Coinbase to buy BTC, but I believe Prelude.io actually allows direct conversion of fiat to BC. Then use that BTC to buy Blackcoin on Mintpal. There are other exchanges, but Mintpal tends to have the most Blackcoin liquidity.
As for actually buying things using Blackcoin, that's an ongoing effort. I'm hoping BlackHalo turns into a sort of decentralized craigslist where you can buy and sell things using Blackcoin. I'm not sure how up to date this is, but go to http://blackcoinmap.com for a list of businesses that accept Blackcoin directly.
Awesome idea! Support it 100%, just a small suggestion... there will be videos & pictures all around the web about Wall Street takeover, SO PLEASE, print a QR code on the girls Tshirts!! directing users to http://www.blackcoin.co/ . This should increase visitors/conversions to the website, and potentially new investors! :)
For Scrypt:
250 KH/s – 5 MH/s = 1 Ticket
5 MH/s – 10 MH/s = 2 Tickets
10 MH/s and above = 3 Tickets
For SHA-256:
25 GH/s – 500 GH/s = 1 Ticket
500 GH/s – 2 TH/s = 2 Tickets
2 TH/s and above = 3 Tickets
Excellent, once I get the financial data we'll get to work, do you have any experience with using R? I'm not a fan of SAS, if you don't have experience with R that's fine, I can give you some pointers.
I would recommend taking a look into RStudio, send me a message on Reddit or PM gnu_user on #blackcoinpool on IRC.
I didn't use Slack before. Just joined Blackcoin channel and it looks great! Shame its not more popular.
That would be brilliant to connect them 2 and to see all the messages live on the website. The Sameroom way could work but the free version is limited to 30 msgs a day and the monthly price is crazy - $49.
How about integrating libotr that would allow you to add security on top of insecure protocols like irc https://otr.cypherpunks.ca/README-libotr-4.0.0.txt
OTR is suitable for 1 to 1 p2p communications.
OTR is not yet suitable for multi-party https://lists.cypherpunks.ca/pipermail/otr-users/2009-May/001647.html
Also, I found this: https://medium.com/weird-future/c350bd84c64e
Has some details on energy usage and discusses the fact that just because the hash rate has increased 60 fold, doesn't mean the energy usage has increased 60 fold.
No worries.
If you're just holding the coins temporarily and not thinking about staking, you can use the wallet which doesn't require any syncing at https://payblk.blackcoin.io or download the PayBLK Android app at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.obsidiancvt.payblk&hl=en
That wallet platform will also get staking capability soon.
Yes: https://payblk.blackcoin.io and the Android version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.obsidiancvt.payblk
Staking on that platform is being worked on by janko33 to bring that to a client which does not need to sync.
FYI the crypto stuff happens client side in javascript, so as long as your computer is secure, so should the wallet be.
