This is the reason why "fire" and the ability to simply cook food so that it killed all the parasites was such a huge technological advancement. It simply allowed for the development of our brains and culture by retaining the resources that these parasites would steal and use for themselves.
As a species we were used too having these in our bodies up until recently and it's still extremely common world wide.
While I know that it's not polite conversation but I'm a firm believer that we need to include information into our school systems as a way to inform people.
The other day in fact I saw a small child walking around in her mothers tow. She was showing signs of having a bad rectal itch (indicative of a pinworm infection)
(Yes, I did inform the mother - many people simply don't know what the symptoms are)

Edit: I realize these may not be creepy to everyone, but they creep the hell out of me because they are in my presence now and then here. They can sting you with both ends and keep stinging after they are dead. If you only chop them in half and they slither off, congrats, now you have 2 somewhere in your house...ahhhhhrrrgghhh!
The drawings were done with charcoal on Bristol paper over a period of six months.
I've also got a kickstarter going to get the cards printed, if you happen to be into that kind of thing.
Reading the actual geocache posting is even creepier.
http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2EB9C_coyote-rest
"Poor Elsie met up with the local carnivores and didn't make it. This cache is dedicated to her.
It's a nice pleasant stroll (albeit very long) out to the cache location. Should be an easy find the way I left it. You knever know if the local fauna will decide to rearrange things though. Enjoy"
The phrasing and sentence structure are very similar. Also the "enjoy" at the end.
Bizarre shit.
IMPORTANT EDIT: it appears this geocache was created in 2010, so it's probably just a coincidence.
You can use your phone as a good-enough geiger counter. The camera sensor is also sensative to gamma and beta, and there are a few apps that take advantage of this.
I love his art style—if you guys are interested, check out The Metabarons comic book series written by Alejandro Jordorowsky illustrated by Giminez. It’s like Dune mixed with Star Wars and LSD. One of my favorites that I can not recommend enough to comic book lovers
Edit: here’s the amazon link to the complete saga. I want to reiterate that the art to this series is something to behold in your hands.

Deserts that have regular flash floods often have a layer of soil called caliche that is non-porous and prevents water from soaking into the ground (which is part of the reason those places are deserts to begin with). So it isn't just that it rains harder, but also that the rain has nowhere to go.
To the people that liked this comic: there's a free flash game, short but sweet that has a similar possible story.
Huh, TIL you can get apps to use your phone's camera as a radiation sensor. Thanks Dent!

> Wow, it looks like such a creepy, but very beautiful place to visit. It must have felt like stepping back in time. I'd love to take a tour one day.
If you do visit, and if you prefer a 'real' experience, I recommend the place I stayed in. My room, although small: had my bed in the city's wall fortifications, and my windows were arrow slits. Truly a unique feeling! Also, the owner gives free booze and bicycles for exploring the town, plus the most amazing organic breakfast you ever had. Although I live in nyc, and pay $ 30/lb for imported prosciutto, and $ 20/lb for imported cheese, still is not the same.

I was once in Beksiński's art museum in Sanok (Poland). All his works are amazing and continue to inspire the work of many artists, such as Piotr Ruszkowski

Rusałka is a slavic female demon usually appearing around lakes, ponds or rivers. She deceives men and drowns them. I wanted to show her as a dead corpse that uses a charm, so that she looks like a pretty woman when out of the water.
I've had some voices wondering about the swastikas on the rims of the guys shirt. So to make it clear. I have no connotations with any extreme right wing parties nor do I keep any nazi or racist oriented beliefs. Swastika has been used for hundreds of years in Poland, before Hitler stole it and spoilt it for everyone. The action of the image takes place in 9th or 10th century. If you want to know more about swastikas just wiki it. There is a really broad and interesting article written about it.
I mean, that's basically how mimics work in DnD; I assume Dark Souls has only chest mimics due to time/engine limitations (much easier to design, animate, program one type of mimic than a bunch).

How about this. According to Wikipedia, this is where it happened. Notice how there's higher resolution available to the East and West, but centred over the "accident" site, there's only very low resolution photos available. A cover-up? You tell me. ;)
But is it that bothersome to credit the author ?

If you want to read a great book about how people got through those days and the philosophy of being alive in such terrible circumstances, you should check out Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. It opened my eyes a lot and changed my view of everyone around me.
Actually I think you're confusing that with the ancient Egyptians. The Mayans believed the afterlife was a horrible place, but the soul had to journey through it to be rebirthed. The Mayans put maize (corn) into the mouths of corpses as nourishment to help them get through it.
This is just from memory, and this site seems to re-enforce it. If I'm wrong someone let me know!
Viktor Frankl, who spent some time in a concentration camp and observed the other inmates, some of whom stole food while others gave their last piece of bread to a sick friend, came to the conclusion that no matter what the circumstances, there remain two types of people: decent and indecent.

Its a dead Tamarin.
It's noises and the unknown that have led to so many of the creatures we now see prevalent in fantasy novels.
One of my favorite things about our ancestors and what they lacked in understanding and knowledge is that of the earliest claims of vampirism.

Escape from Tarkov: > Is this game related to the Stalker? > > There have been numerous mentions on the net that label Escape from Tarkov as a game that is being developed by "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. creators" or "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers". Hereby we officially disprove this claim. There is exactly one person on our team that has worked on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before, so it would be massive overstatement to assert our project this way. > The Battlestate Games developers have previously worked on multiple projects in a variety of genres; however, we share a common passion for the quality hardcore shooters, which are yet so few.
When I was in high school, my art teacher did a semester-long drawing course based on "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", and it was amazing. Just about everyone learned how to draw to some extent. Some of the kids who started with absolutely no drawing talent at all ended up being able to draw at a near-professional level. I don't know why more schools don't do this.
I remember seeing many strange and scary things when I was young. I had always thought that they had some sort of supernatural explanation, but then, only recently I saw this article in The Guardian and learned that what I experienced is actually pretty common (and not an indicator of mental illness!)
The biography of the artist himself is pretty tragic.
He was stabbed to death for petty cash, about 7 years after his wife died and 6 years after his son committed suicide.
His work is highly surreal / dark / morbid, and I urge everyone to have a look at it.
Wait a few months, they're almost done with the story and plan to release in May.
The game is fantastic, has amazing atmosphere, but there isn't much to do after you build out a main base.
H.R. Giger had a very interesting, creepy art style. His work ended up having a great influence on the horror genre, from movies, to book covers, to video games. A lot of the 80's and early 90's creepy monsters owe a bit to his style, a combination of cold machinery and human passions.

The part that I love is that right now, locations in the extreme northern hemisphere experience no sunset for about a month. Take, for example, Barrow, Alaska. Then, in winter time, a month without a true sunrise (not to mention being attacked by vampires every twenty years during this period).
Inspired by a post I saw in this sub, I made a quick little movie with my daughter last night for my game I made. What do you guys think?
Thinking about the 6F,7G,23W,24X part, I find the positions in which the text appears on screen curious.
I checked it out and the text positions all fit into an 8x12 grid: http://imgur.com/iVOma3G (Green indicates finger gestures.)
8 x 12 = 96 cells. The other deciphered text (AHCJ WVFE ...) is 4-char groups in a 4 x 6 grid. 4 x 4 x 6 = 96.
96 and 96, they probably match up somehow.
Also 23-W seems to be 23.W. The dash is only 1 px wide for 23.
- - . X G F W 3 1 2
If anyone wants to play around, the SVG with everything in separate layers is here: http://www.filedropper.com/312_1
(To be clear: none of this has anything to do with the guy's finger positions on screen - just the text)

Actually you don't swallow any spiders per year. Spiders are actually smart yo enough to tell if they're walking into the mouth of a giant beast. Also, they'd have to force themselves down your throat for you to swallow them without using the right muscles.

We have hobo spiders http://hubpages.com/health/Hobo-Spider-Bite-Pictures-Symptoms-Causes-Treatment The funny thing is - hobo spiders only eat dead bugs, and are slow and gentle. I guess the more gentle a creature you are, the more toxic your venom has to be.

Edit 2: It took me a bit to remember the title to find this but you also might enjoy this Haunted Histories Collection from The History Channel
The Vampire Secrets DVD from the set delves into some early stories of people that basically created this idea of the dead rising and feeding on the blood of the living. It talks about the history of blood obsession and various beliefs relating to it, such as The Blood Countess Elizabeth Bathory and Vlad the Impaler.
I bought the set for both my Dad and my best friend several years ago now and definitely enjoyed watching them.
> It was about the fundemental nature of value. It can't get any more basic a topic. Mercantilism held the finite view, and as a result advocated strong government protections, intervention and ownership.
Mercantilist capitalism and Adam Smith's "laissez-faire" capitalism are both different kinds of capitalistic systems, and besides that, the distinction you're trying to make is irrelevant to the economic systems under the imperial trade networks we're discussing - the UK was fully capitalist during the period of the Irish potato famine and indian famines (both happened nearly a hundred years after "The Wealth of Nations" was published). So you're both wrong, and irrelevant.
Simply having state protections and interventions doesn't prevent a state from being capitalist, or else no state has ever been capitalist since those always exist to some degree or another. Again - you might as well pretend the US under Roosevelt, Nixon and Reagan were all completely different economic systems.
>Capitalism rejects that view, and encouraged strong individual competition on the basis value was not a finite quantity but generated naturally as a byproduct of the market.
None of which changes any of the relevant points about the actual private ownership of production, trade and competition that existed regardless. You're trying to draw an imaginary line between two systems that doesn't exist.
>You literally have no idea what is being discussed do you?
So far you've been utterly wrong on every point you're trying to make.

You are correct that many bites do not cause lasting damage, however, they are potentially dangerous enough to merit seeking immediate medial attention. Back when I got a WFR certification (its expired now), I was taught to always treat an Black Widow bite as a potential emergency and to immediate begin steps to transport a person to where they could get medial help. I just did some research though, and it does look like the effect of a black widow bite really does depend on if the spider injected venom or not, if the person has a bad reaction to the venom, and the size and health of the person. They are most dangerous to children, the elderly and the ill. Fortunately the spiders are not aggressive, so the bites are fairly rare.
https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/black-widow-spider-bite#1
Know the symptoms and also clean your hands before touching a wound, as well as cleaning the wound. Don't delay first aid. If you start to notice that you're having an abnormally bad reaction to a wound then it's a good idea to get it checked out.
I googled out of curiosity and found this story from someone who claims to have been a guest at the motel, worth a read:
> At one point early in the evening we were hearing strange sounds and what appeared to be someone screaming followed by lot popping and crunching noises. While in the bathroom my buddy decided to have a peak outside of the bathroom window. My buddy lets out a yell and busts out into the room and I'm like "what?!" He doesn't say anything but goes right to his back and gets his Smith and Wesson 357 out. I'm thinking "what the $%#" and I dig into my bag to get my Sig 232 out. He says we need to get the %@#& out of there right now. I saw he was serious and that made me serious about it, we grabbed our $#!^ for the most part (left a few clothes behind) and looked out the peep sight to make sure it was clear to our car. I threw my gun into my pocket, he put his in his waistband and we hauled ass to the car and got the hell out of there. On the ride away, I asked what he saw in the bathroom. He told me when he looked out the window there was this creepy-ass clown facing away from the window, pants at his ankles, making a weird motion. He told me the clown slowly turned 90 degrees to look at him, my friend said he looked down to see this clown $#@%ing a full-sized dinner ham, when he looked up from the ham $^@!ing the clown was smiling and waving at him.

y'know, I could say that about a lot of my posts on this sub in particular; the requirements by the mods and all....the ones that have scored the highest I can't say I was really moved by. I must be a karma whore. What I think is creepy that they have removed for various reasons I put on tumblr and that has not taken off...so they may be right. (the mods) And not all of that content is creepy, per se, but most is. I'm done rambling.
You'd have to ask the Robugtix company, but I'd imagine it a combination of higher quality components, custom PCB fabrication and injection moulding, assembly labor, software development, R&D, hardware and physical design costs, etc--and I'm sure some pretty large profit margins. Not to mention economics of scale. Making 100,000 of something is cheaper per unit than making 1,000 or less.
Personally I wouldn't buy one, but it'd be really fun to try making my own.
He also was the greatest advancement in medical science ever!
Great book:

While a monster, his work wasn't in vane, his experiments boosted medical sciences 10-20 years forward. All treatments on hypothermia, and the use of induced hypothermia to slkw everything down to allow successful surgeries to cure otherwise always fatal situations. And his genetic studies dumped the massive amount of traits he had mapped from each parent even writing s theory on "designer babies" which became the basis of testing fetus for abnormal genetics while still within the window for abortion, so if test showed encephalopathy, etc they could abort.
The book also mentions the true crime of Japan unit 731 whose experiments made Mengeles look tame in comparison. Sad thing is it could have advanced medicine another 20+ years, but most was destroyed before realizing what they had a gold mine of human medical data while heinous, it could be used to save millions

My boyfriend and I were talking about this book recently, and decided to order a copy. It was definitely the artwork that stuck in our minds. I can picture most of the eerie images to this day!
I've got some pretty sad news to report. A while back, it seems the publishers decided the artwork was too much for kids to handle, and had a new artist re illustrate the book. It's awful. If you see a copy of the old version in a book store or on eBay, pick it up!

Rose Hairs really aren't that great of tarantulas to keep.
A. They're stolen from their natural home and put into the pet trade. Which is why they're so common in major petstores and cheap. I don't believe it's good to support wild caught animals.
B. They aren't often that docile. I bought one and It's my most aggressive tarantula. I've seen many that are very very sweet, though.
C. I believe because of where they're from, they can have these random periods of months where they go without eating or molting (shedding their exoskeleton). It has to do with seasonal changes where food is more scarce, I believe. This can be scary to a novice keeper.
D. They're really not that pretty. I personally find them gorgeous, but compared to other widely available genus's, they're not that attractive.
My Green Bottle Blue (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens) has my most favorite coloring, definitely one of the most beautiful tarantulas in my opinion. They're quite fast and aggressive eaters.
My GBB is a sweatheart. They make AMAZING web carpets all over their enclosure. They can often be seen sitting right in the center of their web waiting for pray. I will drop an insect several inches away from the tarantula to watch him pounce and tare into it like mad man.

lmao, I have thought about making a new sub...I just need a name, I can't think of an effective one (I'm terrible at titles). I have a tumblr blog that hasn't really taken off. So, I could be the one who is wrong.
