R5: Humble Origins + First Come, First Serve
Even though I normally don’t like being blobby, it was a fun campaign. I was cutting it close by the end but I managed to kick everyone off the new world. If anyone's interested, here’s the national ideas I ran with
Traditions:
Development Cost -10.0%
Diplomatic Tech Cost -5.0%
Ambition:
Military Tech Cost -5.0%
Ideas:
Native Assimilation +15.0%
Idea Cost -5.0%
Global Settler Increase +5.00
Morale of Navies +5.0%
Tech Cost -5.0%
Morale of Armies +5.0%
Discipline +2.5%
It's a feature of the Art of War DLC. It adds a big red cross just above the ideas bar of an idea group, allowing you to completely abandon that group. You lose all bonuses, get refunded 10% of the idea cost, and gain an open idea group slot. It's especially useful for colonizers when they run out of places they can (or want to) colonize.
The Art of War DLC is amazing. It's one of two DLCs that adds so much to the game that it's 100% worth the money. Common Sense is the other DLC that one should absolutely get. If you don't have them, get them now, they're heavily discounted in the Steam store. They are also available in other online stores, often at an even greater discount, occasionally as much as 75% off.
If you're brand new to the game there's so much content in the base game that you wont realize anything is missing. In fact it may just be a boon for you to have a few less game concepts to learn all in one go.
That being said Art of War and Common Sense, the two most recent DLCs/Expansions are definitely worth picking up. Art of War is 50% off on steam (think it was 75% off just last week?) and Common Sense was only just released, so too early for it to be discounted. Check also http://isthereanydeal.com/#/search:Europa%20Universalis%20IV;/scroll:%23gamelist
But yeah, in buying the pack you did you paid for a bunch of 1$ unit cosmetic packs, not something that improves the game unless you really like the troop models to look more nuanced. You could always try and get one of those new refunds and see if more of it goes on sale for 75% off.
I created a mod which changes the localization for most non-European cultures into savages. I've tried to follow the picture as much as possible: Download!
I had the conquistador from the EU3 loading screen as my phone background for a long time, I really liked those backgrounds. I think I had a slightly cropped version of this one : http://www.gamefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/spaish.jpg
I also replaced my ugly eu4 loading screens with the eu3 ones so I can enjoy napoleons fat horse and the angry american soldier while starting up my game.
EDIT: Heres a higher def version but cropped differently. Best I could find. http://img.phombo.com/img1/photocombo/1748/Game_Wallpapers-40.jpg_wallpaper_europa_universalis_3_01_1920x1200.jpg
> In both HOI4 and EU4, you win the war first, and then declare.
“Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War
The e-books (apart from the one with original writing) they're offering are:
Common Sense by Thomas Paine, written in 1776. From the product description on the Steam store page:
>This work is in the public domain. It includes a new preface by Jakob Munthe, the Brand Manager for Europa Universalis IV.
The Art of War by Sun Tzu, written in the 5th century BC.
>This edition of the timeless classic is devoted to the Europa Universalis IV computer game by Paradox Interactive. It includes a preface by project lead Thomas Johansson with advice on how to apply Sun Tzu’s teachings to this very complex and multi-layered game. ... This translation of The Art of War is in the public domain.
The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, published in 1776.
>This work is in the public domain. It includes a new preface by Fredrik Wester, the CEO of Paradox Interactive.
The regular price of these e-books is 1,99 € apiece, meaning you're paying for the formatting and introduction created by Paradox, but mostly you're paying for an old text that's in the public domain and readily available for free.
EDIT: corrected some grammatical errors.
> I may consider stealing this idea at some point...
I'd love to see that! I like this format and I was hoping I could "spread it" to other people.
> How long (roughly) did it take to make?
Roughly two days but each day I only worked on it for ~2h so technically if you were willing enough you COULD make one every day. I used GIMP2 and gifmaker so good luck and if you have any ideas on how I could improve these posts, feel free to share!

There's plenty of places you can get it for less than 40 euros. G2a sells it for something along the lines of 28 euros I believe.
Actually, went to check for you and it's on sale there now for 7 euros. That's the cheapest I've ever seen it. https://www.g2a.com/weeklysale
Tada.
First of all, look at other comment, you can refund. Second, 8 dollars isn't very cheap, there aren't many sales going on right now, but you can still get it for $8.50 online.
Still waiting for a Il principe/The Prince DLC where you can go full-on malevolent Machiavellian power hungry.
Also, talking about Machiavelli; he also wrote a book called The Art of War. It's equally likely that the DLC is named after Machiavelli's work. Sun Tzu's work is more well known and extremely defining, but Machiavelli's work is more appropriate for the time period.
Steamdb lists everything that is on Steam. EU4 has had a nameless DLCs added recently and its depot shows that it's named "Politically Correct Edition".
PDS know that this is public information so they're not using real names before they're announced.
>I tried it once, but realised unless I disband most of my armies, wouldn't be able afford the upkeep while waiting for sailor regen
It's really expensive. If you have The Art of War DLC I bet being able to mothball fleets would help a ton with one.
I was just doing an HRE run, kindof went for a world conquest after passing the 2nd to last reform but at 1800 figured there was no way I could conquer ALL of Asia in 20 years.
At that point I had an income of like 600 a month after all maintenance/advisers so I just built 500 heavy ships and put a training fields in every province for the "A Decent Reserve" achievement and called it a day!
John Julius Norwich has an excellent three part series on the subject with detailed bibliographies.

There is an amazon link to the folio edition but if you can check them out of your local library, it's well worth your while.

It isn't just for narcissists who film themselves playing games. ;P
The Art of War hype was massive, probably the most hype any DLC has had ever (including the current one, and the current one has some pretty big hype built up as far as DLCs go).
El Dorado was just so lackluster by comparison, but I think PDX did that on purpose, give us the colossal AoW to make us collectively fangasm and calm our expectations down with ED. And now CS is another pretty big gamechanger, though not a "suddenly the ROTW matters" level of gamechanger, but still a pretty big one...
If you enter the game name at http://isthereanydeal.com/ you usually can see very easy if there are any deals. You can even add a maximum amount yoyu are able to pay for it and wait until that price is reached. They will send you an email when it does.
David Starkey made a film for the BBC about the Reformation in quite a English view but I found it interesting especially as Henry VIII started out as one of Luther's opponents.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b097f5fj/reformation-europes-holy-war
Italy is also green. It's the same shade of green that farts are portrayed as in cartoons.
https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/europa-universalis-iv-mare-nostrum/ this gives me a 404 and searching for Mare Nostrum turns up nothing. Cossacks Content Pack is out of stock, too.
(not that it matters much, actually, I can't even register right now due to an "unknown error". I guess I'll just have to wait a day.)
It's more like there were representatives of each soviet republic being "elected" to rule over entire union. After Stalin USSR was ruled mostly by Ukrainian political elite: period 1953-1991, only quarter of this period was ruled by Russians - Malenkov, Andropov, Gorbachev. And even Gorbachev was influenced a lot by Gromyko (FA Minister 57-85) who was Belarusian. Kashin O. (2014) <em>Горби-дрим</em> . Crimea case is more like states in game, let's say Ukraine had 3/4 provinces in that state and Russia had only Crimea, since Russia is huge it lacked number of states so it decided to give it to Ukraine to get an extra state to use it in Siberia
The Art of War DLC doesn't seem to be on sale directly, but the Art of War Collection, which contains AoW, is on sale for $8.50.
https://www.paradoxplaza.com/europa-universalis-iv-the-art-of-war-collection
And here's a link the the other DLC's on sale:
JF Verbruggen - The Art of Warfare in Western Europe During the Middle Ages. Slightly related, though maybe more relevant for CK2. But after all, EU4 does touch the end of the Middle Ages. Important lecture for anyone who wants to learn how people back then made war, without all myths many believe thanks to movies, like disorganized knightly formations, individual fight, lack of discipline etc.
The best part in all of this is that this is a Brazilian province, but the name is completely wrong, as it isn't in any language knwon to man
(Navidad to Spanish, Natividade to Portuguese)
All of what you labeled the "major DLCs" are good, but not absolutely essential, besides Art of War. That one is is currently 50% off on Gamesplanet, so you should probably pick it up now. It is much more important than any other DLC. You should probably buy Common Sense, Res Publica, El Dorado, Wealth of Nations, and Conquest of Paradise in that order when they are on sale for a good price (preferably 75% off, or at least 50%). The thing that people were complaining about concerning Common Sense was mostly the patch that came alongside it and not the DLC itself. You won't even notice any problems, seeing as how you haven't played the game before the patch. It's still a good DLC and was a good patch IMO.
Every other DLC is purely aesthetic (besides the three that offer new events for certain specific countries) and is not important unless you really want unit models or new music.
To see which of the major DLCs are on sale right now, use isthereanydeal.com.
From this source I should actually run it without many problems I guess.
Also, before 1.8 the game would run pretty smoothly. It has been really frustrating :/
WHO YOU CALLIN' SWAMP DWELLERS? ALL YOU BITCHES BE DEPENDING ON PLATE TECTONICS OR GOD FOR YOUR LAND WE CREATED OUR OWN! DUTCH SOIL BEST SOIL.
WHATS THAT YOU WON 2 OUT OF 4?? FUCK YOU WE PROFITED FROM ALL GTFO WITH YOUR FILTHY TEA THAT WE SOLD YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE
There's a sale going on on this website. Remembered this thread, and figured I'd let you know. https://www.greenmangaming.com/paradox-promo/europa-universalis-titles/
Using the code PDX18 while checking out will take another eighteen percent off.
It is currently 8 bucks on Humble Bundle Store. That being said, I would advise you to buy it and enjoy the shit out of this game.
Yes, 2 world wars and having an early decline in fertility does that:
Look at Europe(without Russia) and add Russia to that, that's more than China between 1900 and 1950
13 euros, was 7 just last week: https://www.g2a.com/europa-universalis-4-steam-cd-key-global.html
7 is the lowest I've seen yet, 10 I've seen twice in the past months, 13 is still very good considering it's 40 normally.
Huh, nice spot. It would be disgusting except - that's actually a bug with the timeline, unfortunately. Same problem that means the colonies of GB are not coloured in until I take them over, and just appear as "k002" on the map. Here's a screenshot from the save: https://vgy.me/SvkiAU.jpg
> Nothing good ever came from Turks except kebap
Except colonization, and as a result the entire modern area. So good jokes mate, real funny.
Edit for those who downvote me without thinking :
> The network was used regularly from 130 BCE, when the Han officially opened trade with the west, to 1453 CE, when the Ottoman Empire boycotted trade with the west and closed the routes.
Source : http://www.ancient.eu/Silk_Road/
> Europeans also searched for optimal trade routes to lucrative Asian markets and hoped to gain global recognition for their country.
I don't know how you normally do it, but I tried.
It's 1648 by now and I have no backup saves. The Commonwealth still rules over Burgundy and Spain and even crushed an independence war. Now they're integrating Burgundy. The reformation was really, really weak, but because the Commonwealth was fighting France, Russia and the Ottomans led the Reformation to victory.

I do not know where you live and what the laws allow you to do with intellectual property of others, but I shall remind you that you most likely cannot use these images for any profit-related business and shall need to give credit where it is due.
Furthermore, it might be best to contact PDX and get their permission to use it for whatever you want as /u/RevengeoftheHittites stated.
fleet compostion;
If you are fighting in inland seas then build a butt ton of galleys, look at what the AI is building and try to match or better them. Note that in inland sea 2 galleys beat one heavy and cost vastly less.
If you are fighting in ocean then you need to choose if you want a fleet or not. If you don't have naval dominance you might as well just have a trade fleet and keep it at home during wars. So either have the income to support a good fleet that is bigger than your rivals and their allies combined.
Light ships are nice, they can give a decent boast to trade and privateering is a good way to get PP. just don't expect them to win any fights if heavies or galleys are involved.
At peace your warships should be docked up, heavies are best mothballed as they cost soo much but galleys it's worth the money for the quick responce incase you forget to unmothball them before a war.
A special note that going over Naval force limit is barely penalised, i generally go 2x or more over it.
For land it might be cliche but honestly The Art of War is all you need, it's a very short read and applies well to EUIV. Never go to war outnumbered unless you have some other advantage (tech, ideas, being able to blockade their troops on an island...), it is possible to pull some trickery with sniping stacks but not always.
The amount of trade you steer into a trade node doesn't effect your power there. Yes, you can ignore colonizing and snipe all of the new world trade with light ships. The Art of War DLC/patch fixes this by removing the western Europe node, I don't remember if it's a free or paid feature though.
Actually, I'm convinced an in-game API allowing things akin to the Fallout companion app would be a great addition to EU4.
Imagine being able to monitor your budget or having a map mode on your smartphone/tablet/secondary laptop while playing the game on your main computer. Or even just use more than one screen of your computer.
It'd also be a blessing for Vic2 pop/economy screen or HoI3's OoB.
"rich white man's anarchism" that is the basic caricature of libertarianism, i got mine so why should i have to deal with the state.
keeping in mind we are living in the age of the zenith of the nation state and its power(though there are signs everywhere of its unraveling) the libertarian ideaology makes several good points that are historically accurate. the one most germane to this board i think is resistance to tyranny.
that is if you go through history people who get dominated by foreign powers most of the time had rigid hierarchies them selves and the conquers simply replaced the upper levels of the the state. and populations that lacked centralized states proved far harder if not impossible to subjugate. if you look at the middle east during ottaman rule for example you will find the cities where almost entirely self governed by informal bodies. the notables for instance is one theory on how this was orginized.
its also interesting to note that private trust that would be created for a pupose. welfare for family, upkeep of public fountains and mosques schools hospitals retirements ect, these where known as waqf and the strange irony is that in many middle eastern cities there was no private property remaining with all property being tied up in a private trust/waqf.
that aside, if there was any real threat to the sovereignty of the state he would be dead in jail or off in new york or someplace
Good suggestions about not giving up right away, but sticking with it at least while it is still fun.
For the next time, though, here is my normal starting set of moves as the Ottomans: https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/2e0z62/whats_the_current_best_way_to_have_orthodox/cjv9q5n
Since you likely won't be switching to Orthodox for your first few runs as the Ottomans, ignore that part about sending a missionary to Constantinople, etc.
Go ahead and take the decision to make Constantinople your capital, but check to see if the mission "Integrate Constantinople" is available first, since taking that decision will immediately complete the mission.
At this point, you should be building galleys up to your naval force limit, and recruit more regiments up to your force limit but don't let your manpower drop too low (not below 50%).
After that, next priorities will be to reclaim all the cores you have in Anatolia - Ramazan, Karaman, Candar, Dulkadir, and Erzurum (in Aq Qoyunlu). Check alliances first though. You may find that Dulkadir is allied to the Mamluks and Candar, and Candar is allied to Dulkadir and Ramazan. Since you don't want to deal with the Mamluks yet, but you can easily take on all the Beyliks at once, you'd declare war on Candar, which would also get you Dulkadir and Ramazan but not the Mamluks.
You'll want to take out Aq Qoyunlu soon, not just for your core in Erzurum, but also to get a border with Georgia so you can forge claims on them. Ideally you want to take on Georgia before Qara Qoyunlu or Crimea or any of the hordes get to them, because Georgia has Circassia with its very profitable gold mine.
Then it will be time to spread some of that AE love to your European neighbors to the north and west. I like to go for Bosnia first to at least take Zeta, which then gets me a border with Ragusa which I take because it's an important center of trade.
eh, they were more like 12 and 13 year olds, and I was 13 so nothing really to weird looking back. However the world conquest games where you have to roleplay are incredibly cringy, and all of the twelvies there think they are god's great gift to history and they think they are so smart. On games like those I usually just go in and I paint the world a bunch of random colors for fun.
Here's a link to the game with the annoying kids https://www.roblox.com/games/112377972/World-Conquest-1936-PUBLIC
Sadly the old game was taken down and replaced with a sequel to it that is pretty damn bad.
I've used g2a and kinguin in the past, they both came through. I have purchased 6 games from kinguin.
If you want a bit more legitimacy but still in the grey market, there's GMG. They have a voucher now (PAYDAY-22PERC-OFFNOW) that's 22% off and it applies to EU4.
Otherwise, you can wait for a sale. HumbleBundle often puts EU4 and expacs on sale.
Edit: Check this price check site: http://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/info?plain=europauniversalisiv
This website is very helpful for doing just that. If there isn't anything on there, then wait until a new DLC comes out. The game + all the DLC go on sale. I managed to nab about 5 for just about $20.
I'm currently running an i3 3220 in my desktop, which is a couple of years old.
Having looked at some benchmarks for the i3 in the laptop I'm looking at getting, looks as though it isn't too bad, but as I say I'm not exactly well versed on processors so I trust your opinion over mine.
> ally a problem. It's a decent way to everything balanced. You do best when you keep about 8k stacks and attack with one stack at a time as in basically any battle both armies
Well, I have to disagree.
My army was loads more powerful, had slightly less war exhaustion, had a good general (they had none) and they still won.
unless I find a way to modify this game, I'm just gonna dump it.
unless, you can explain why I lost this fight?
Hey, thanks for the shoutout! I never finished the series on Reddit, but if you want the finale, I posted it on Steemit a while ago.
The Maldives are startlingly easy to play because you start as an island nation. The first 50 years are boring, but once you colonize enough, you become a force to be reckoned with. I eventually got so powerful that no one could stop me. Had I pushed harder, I might've been able to do a world conquest, but I may try again in the latest patch. Much love.
A awesome site I use is http://isthereanydeal.com/
Basically you import your steam wishlist, set the price that you want to pay, and the site will notify you when the game/dlc you want is selling for the price you want on one of the sites that you can use and activate the game on steam.
Wait until the end of the sale before buying, eu4 was already on sale but it might just come back.
When Diplomacy Fails is currently doing a series on 17th century warfare that is really interesting. Hardcore History has an episode on the Protestant Reformation and specifically the Anabaptists that gives you a feel for just how transformative a major theme of the game was.
I'll second the Revolutions podcast as well. His 1789 and 1848 seasons are fantastic.
> Now, you can take the mainland and force Portugal to move onto the off-coast islands, like the PRC did during the chinese revolution.
Or better, like Portugal did in 1815 towards the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
Story of Arnold II van Egmund's reign
He broke the dutch curse and survived well into his 70s.
and the save
/u/cackmed you're up next
edit : I put the file on a google drive, so you don't have to deal with editing it yourself:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B60m7C0t_HmuZDlyZ2VMZ0pFTzg
Just copy this file in C:\Users\Arno\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\mod\Keyboard Shortcuts + Bigger Diplomacy View\interface
If you don't trust me/mind editing a file, I can tell you how to do it in a few steps:
Go to your EU4 interface Folder (If you use steam, it would be : "\Steam\SteamApps\common\Europa Universalis IV\interface"
Copy the file "countryview.gui" in your mods folder, in the folder used by Arumba's mod ("*C:\Users\ <Username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\mod\Keyboard Shortcuts + Bigger Diplomacy View\interface*" )
Now, edit the file you just copied using Notepad
Go to the bottom of the file, where you can find the following:
guiButtonType = { name ="tab_subjects" quadTextureSprite= "GFX_tab_subjects" position = { x= 435 y = 168 } Orientation = "UPPER_LEFT" clicksound = nosound shortcut = "+" }
Delete the line : shortcut = "+"
Now do the same for the next block of text ( guiButtonType ={ name ="tab_natives" ....} )
You can now launch your game, and you'll just have to use Arumba's mod, and you're good.
Oh and if Arumba doesn't like that we edit his mod, I could do an independant mod that would fix the issue you're having.
Right now I just have a personal level Patreon with no subscribers, haha.
I should just replace that with one-time donations somewhere else, but we probably will do our real Kickstarter in ~2-3 months time.
PM me your email and I'll make sure to sign you up for early beta :)
Cheers
If you're thinking about getting the bundle (expansion + content pack), GMG has it on sale for $22.49.
Cheapest right now - I've personally purchased something from that site - was a bit of a risk as I don't speak a word in Spanish/Portuguese and live in Czech Republic, yet there wasn't any problem at all.
IsThereAnyDeal.com - Great page for hunting for sales.
Hey I don't know about fixing yours in particular, but I fixed my graphical problems by uninstalling my display drivers using this tool, and then reinstalling the latest versions. Then I deleted the whole EU4 folder in My Documents, which got rebuilt the next time I started the game. Boom! Solved for me!
I don't know if you have easy access to photoshop or other high end graphics software from school/uni/work etc. If not, I'd suggest checking out inkscape, I use it for my stuff and its pretty good and its free.
r5: I had started this campaign with Brandenburg with the goal of having as many HRE vassals (or: Princes) as possible. The second goal was to conquer all of Europe and add (almost) all provinces to the HRE.
I mostly reached my goals, ending up with over 100 vassals willing to follow me unconditionally. Sadly though, I ran out of time leaving the Iberian Peninsula, an ugly piece of France and most of Great Britain unconquered.
(For those unaware: After enacting the Imperial Reform "Revoke the Privilegia" the HREmperor gets to have as many vassals as possible, as long as they are part of the HRE.)
Check this timelapse to see how I went from being Brandenburg to being the ruler of Europe: https://sendvid.com/0dax4ohm
It vastly depends. For example, the Extended Timeline mod was able to update in one day. 1.25 has mainly minor changes, but I have no clue what the ASOIAF mod changes. I have heard that some mods have required changes to UI to fix CTDs. Major things that are not mod-specific would be buildings, religion/church aspects, missions, and static modifiers for institutions and knowledge sharing. There are however dozens of mod-specific changes that need to be induced to prevent fatal errors. To start, I would recommend downloading a directory comparer (I use WinMerge. Then figure out what needs to be changed by comparing the vanilla 1.24 and 1.25 directories. Updating is not the easiest process, especially for large total overhaul mods, and I wish you the best of luck. There will be a lot of frustrated debugging on the way. If you have any questions about modding, I would recommend asking them on the PDX User Modding forum, which has a more active core of modders than here.
I would recommend code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) or atom (https://atom.io/). Both are free, nice to use, prettier than notepad++, very powerful with plugins for different programming languages or file formats.
I can't speak for others, because I learned most of what I knew outside of EU - the attention to history I'd what drew me originally. However, it did inspire me to read some interesting books. After playing EU3, I read this book because it talked at length about Burgundy, called Vanished Kingdoms.
But to your point, I think there is a greater knowledge about events and lands in our playerbase, 100%. What I have found the rarest is being able to understand how events are related, because the simplest and most appealing interpretations are more accessible than complex historical reasons, and often more kind to the writer of the history. The decline of the Roman Empire is a complex, multi-faceted example that many of us have been exposed to an oversimplification of at one point or another. Sometimes this is do ignorance - if you've never been taught, you won't know. Other times, people sometimes have a strong stake in a particular narrative, because acknowledging facts contrary to a narrative can be painful, even when far removed from the event
Amazon just gives a steam code which you put into steam to add the specific game/dlc you bought. For example you can see in this one it says a bit above the add to cart DRM: Steam, so you know its gonna give you a steam code.
I had trouble with something similar at work. I use this Anker mouse which is angled and I have had no problems since then. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I highly recommend trying it and it’s less than 20 bucks on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Wireless-Vertical-Ergonomic-Optical/dp/B00BIFNTMC
The Art of War expansion is almost a must-have. It contains loads of new content, but no cosmetic improvements. Y ou need to keep a watchful eye when buying DLC's for EU4, because many of them are purely cosmetic DLC - such as Call to Arms DLC.
The Pre-order pack and the Digital Extreme Edition only contain a few events and decisions for muslim nations and Byzantium and then some cosmetic additions. The Muslim Advisors pack only contains new cosmetic portraits for advisors in Muslim countries, so you should only really buy this if you /need/ your game to look more diverse.
In conclusion:
Large Content Packs: Common Sense El Dorado Art of War Conquest of Paradise Wealth of Nations Res Republica
Tiny Content Packs (with few cosmetics): American Dream Digital Extreme Edition Upgrade Pack (The Stars and Crescent) Pre-Order Pack (Purple Phoenix)
All other DLC are purely cosmetic, and contain either Unit/Ship models, Ebooks, Music, Extra landmarks and Advisor Portraits.
If you are interested in having more gameplay: buy the Large Content Packs listed above. If you are interested in your game looking prettier: buy the Cosmetic Content Packs also listed above.
I'm looking to get this as a gift for a friend, but I noticed that the EU4 Collection is not the whole collection, as it is missing El Dorado, The Art of War, and Common Sense (and maybe others that I didn't spot, but I think that's it).
The EU IV Collection: Conquest of Paradise, Res Republica & Wealth of Nations and a lot of good dlcs for events, songs, units and more. After that, is your choice buying Art of War & El Dorado. The Art of War is focused in Europe in the Religious Wars of the HRE and El Dorado in the New World and new mechanics for the Aztecs and Incas
I took a course on History of world civilizations especially material aspect of it. If you want to learn more check this book by Fernand Braudel. Author goes into a deep analysis on how Europe became the dominant region in the world and what allowed her to do so.
Actually that's very close to historical reality. I was reading a book entitled Caear's Legion which is a historical account of Rome's X Legion, Caesar's favorite. They were driven to full mutiny because Caesar refused to let them go at the end of their multi-year enlistment. They were his hardened veterans so he told them multiple times "Oh just fight in this one last campaign and I will give you an enormous bonus at the end of it when I discharge you." However at the end of every campaign there was always another so Caesar had to repeat that line until they were driven to mutiny.
He did so because they were his hardened veterans whom he could not afford to lose and if he raised another legion it would contain raw recruits of dubious quality. So I know you're making a joke but that is very close to reality.
I've created an Android app that lets you keep track of you achievements a bit better than Steam. It also calculates your Tenacity score, based on rarity and percentage of unlocked achievements.
It's free and has no ads. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.zootapps.tenacity
So what's your score for EU4?
How's reddit then for you? Black text on white background implies the highest possible contrast ratio (21).
If it's really about contrast, you may use f.lux on the day because the contrast ratio between two colors that are shifted into the red spectrum is lower than the contrast between the original colors. Even though f.lux was originally invented to let the monitor behave like the sun for a functioning Circadian rhythm.
If you do want to know the history of eastern europe in detail, this lecture series is fantastic:

I once taught a university course on that same period, here's the textbook I chose to use as backgound readings for the class- it's a pretty solid overview of the period, well-written and accurate.
If there's a specific region/country or theme you'd like to learn more about, let us know and maybe we can find you something more specific too.
It'd be a major PITA to do this. You wouldn't have variable names or comments (these get thrown away during compilation). And the compiler would no doubt be doing all sorts of optimizations that would make reading the source very difficult. Just have a look at the output of this tool. Not very readable at all.
I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a weight. Makes a lot more sense than a stamp lol. Old weight standards used to look like that.
I’m on mobile so the best I can do is an Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Hestya-Calibration-Digital-Balance-Tweezer/dp/B078Q3JZY7/ref=zg_bs_4989308011_1/141-3668024-5170225?pd_rd_i=B078Q3JZY7&psc=1
The Siege is particularly important because it held the Ottomans back from taking over the Mediterranean. Had they won, the Turks could have invaded Sicily and Southern Italy. They potentially could have snuffed out the Spanish Empire before it really got going. Then much of Europe would look like the Balkans today. It's arguably as important as the Siege of Vienna, another massive and stunning Ottoman defeat. One Christian victory was the gateway to central Europe and the other, Malta, was the gateway to Southern Europe. Empires of the Seas puts the battle into perspective and how important it and the later Lepanto were.

gmg has the game and dlc on sale right now
would recommend for dlc, art of war, rights of man and common sense as a starting point, conquest of paradise if you want to colonize, the other dlc you pick up should be picked up depending on what nations you're going to play as, like if your playing inside or outside of europe there are a bunch of dlc that can be reccomended depending on who you play as
if your gonna play as muscovy, pick up third rome, england, rule britannia, and the spanish nations pick up golden century
R5: I am creating a mod that turns major nations into islands. Rn, most of western Europe is divided into islands. I plan to flesh it out in the following weeks, with new trade routes that fit with the new seas added to the game. It has some graphical issues but hopefully I will be able to fix them. Anyways, any feedback is appreciated!

Strawpoll for what I should focus for the next update
In this update to my mod that blends together the likes of Anmaril’s Religion extender and Beyond Typus 9.0, I have added quite a few things ranging from more unique national ideas to just more nations in general.
As a general overview:
There are a few other miscellaneous things added in the update like tweaks to some descriptions and unique National Ideas for some forgotten nations (like Nogai and Uzbek and the Oirat Horde), but these are the major parts of the update and I’m happy to say I’m personally proud of how it has come along.
I hope you enjoy my mod!
steam sales do apply to dlc's so if u really are that tight on money i suggest waiting for one of them. During the summersale Art of war has been 5 dollars on steam http://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/price?plain=europauniversalisivartofwar
Here's a repost of a comment that helped me greatly in my current Spain trade conquest game:
>Control your collection node > >Control the nodes that feed into your collection node > >Build Gov 1, Prod 1 + 2, Trade 1 + 2 first, they give you the highest return on investment. > >Build Trade 3 everywhere and Trade 4 in trade nodes where you're fighting for control > >Build manufacturers everywhere + Gov buildings in high base tax province > >Spend spare cash on Gov buildings working from highest base tax to lowest until you can build prod 5 + 6 > >Build Prod 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 EVERYWHERE (except centres of trade in nodes where you need more power build trade Buildings there) starting with high value provinces > >Build Gov up to 4 in all remaining provinces. > >It snow balls pretty hard so just focus on keeping maintenance (fleets, advisors, armies etc.) as low as possible since the quicker you get the buildings out the more opportunity they have to pay back their cost. > >Woops, forgot to say why you should control your collection node. Basically it allows you to double dip from production.
The one caviat I would add to that is I don't bother with Gov buildings in provinces with the -75% Distant Oversees modifier. If you have trade companies then focus on Trade buildings and don't build Gov buildings in those nodes.
1) Sure was worth $10 on Steam's summer sale, which is over now, sadly. Luckily, sites like g2a bought Steam keys they're still re-selling at near "summer sale" prices, although I never bought from that site, so I wouldn't say I recommend it (nor have I heard anything negative about them, just saying...).
3) I haven't played CK2.

link to the save file. please let me know you suffer a similar issue. if not, i'd trouble u to play a month or 2 then resave and upload it so i can DL it. thank you.
Hello!
it's great that you used G2A so many times and you have only a positive experience.
I have a small request. We'd be over the moon if you dropped by and gave us a rating on Trustpilot (just like Mario we are collecting stars). If not, I'd super glad if you share with me any feedback you might have to improve the quality of your shopping.
All the best to you!

If you were still looking to pick up any DLC, this website is selling all DLC for fifty percent off. Figured I'd let you know. Using the code PDX18 while checking out will take another eighteen percent off.
Someone just posted a link to this website selling the DLC for half off. Remembered this threat, figured I'd let you know. Using the code PDX18 while checking out will take another eighteen percent off. https://www.greenmangaming.com/paradox-promo/europa-universalis-titles/
Do you think I could get a better deal than buying most of the DLC individually on steam? I'd like to get most of the DLC (not digital extreme edition and what if DLC) and it comes out to $16.08.
According to isthereanydeal.com the DLC collection has been $11.30 on Nuuvem. Unfortunately it doesn't say what's included in the collection.
https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=1733&initiative_id=AS_20161106141851&SearchText=holy+roman+empire aliexpress I meant to say. Theres two kinds of flags, the one I ordered and the one shown in eu4. Pick your favorite.
"is a wc still possible?"
Trying to finish my WC with Mughals. My main problem remaining is Europe.
https://snipboard.io/XGZsyb.jpg
Right now I've got Spain, Portugal and Burgundy at nearly full war score. But the resulting coalition will kick my ass. Main other opponent is a big England-Australia PU.
What's the optimal way to go? Let the coalition form and instant release useless countries in asia? Will that reset my AE to 0? Or should I instant attack England-Australia to truce-juggle?
(teleported from last week thread!)
One Faith, can I make it?
https://snipboard.io/UZnXOI.jpg
It's 1771, Catholic Austria with HRE vassal swarm and about 10 other countries. I've got 22 missionaries converting, 19,5% missionnary strenght myself. I'll be getting 1% more strenght in 3 ideas.
About 600 privince remaining, and I ve got that WC to finish (still 400 dev to go), as well as Austria missions trees.
Am I late? Any tips to speed things up? Thanks :)

Fun fact time. Lots of Swedish last names are substantives or verbs. These are called soldier names, and they were originally given to drafted soldiers with common last names in order to tell them apart. Then the names were passed down the families.
I haven’t played any other EU games.
You mentioned For the Glory. That game was made by a team of modders hired by PDX as sort of an expanded EU2. Sort of like Darkest Hour. Haven’t played but reviews on Steam say the game has stability issues.
I actually have EU2 on GOG.com I believe. I might try it one day and voice my opinion. I heard EU1 and EU2 were more streamlined games. Like Spain would get an event in the late game to make it weaker as happened historically, even if you the player were doing good. EU3 and EU4 went into the direction of a sandbox.
I also haven’t played EU3 but Isorrowproductions in the video I linked above showed the game without the last DLC, Divine Wind. Just by reading EU3 wiki you can see the game went through a lot and got much better in many aspects.
For example in vanilla EU3 missionaries worked like this: you sent him to a province, it had a chance to convert or you got a revolt. Lol. In the expansion In Nomine they changed it so that the missionary had a fixed chance to convert, and remained in the province until it was converted. Of course that reached maturity in EU4 with a fixed time to convert, the most reasonable of the three.
EU4 has some controvertial design choices, most importantly mana, and a toxic DLC policy. Other PDX games are also guilty to the latter, but EU4 the most I’d say.
That’s mostly what I’ve heard and read myself. As I said, I haven’t played any of those, just second-hand knowledge. Hoped that helped.
> Are you using mods?
No

> Maybe I can find out what is going on
You are too kind... but I can use your favor :)
> The engine is massive, and even the best developers can get lost trying to make sense of it all. I can't link it due to licensing issues, but take a look at the Unreal Engine source code.
If anyone's actually interested in seeing the source for Unreal 4, you can get a license by going to the Unreal website and registering.
Going back to your primary point about game state: I ran in to the same issue when I was writing the history generation for my title generator for CK2. If I recall correctly, I only had to keep track of about half a dozen things, and I still had bugs. Because it means you need to have proper checks every time you want to change something, and if you miss one, bugs happen. Now consider that a single province in EU4 has dozens of attributes to keep track of.
How should I know that? I don't even know which text editor you are using. You could look in the menus and in the settings. If there is nothing, you could use a better text editor. If you use winodws, you could try Notepad++. It is often recommended.
