Thank you! I got it on Amazon. It does ship from China though, so I had to wait a while to get mine.
Just use the OEM housing and install the 4th brake LED
I bought a cheap roll of vynl off Amazon and cut it out myself. It's alot cheaper than buying a strip for somewhere. I have had it on now for a few weeks and no signs of peeling so that's good.
There's the link if you want to buy it.
At about 95/5 city/highway driving, I've averaged about 24.9 mpg over the last 3 months. Avg cost $2.34/day and $0.11/mile.

I use these. Apply them on a warm day. I used real 3M on the passenger side and it's still stuck even on a cold day. The driver side I kept the adhesive that was originally attached and it fell off on a cold day.
It's drawing juice from the battery, so if you want to risk a dead battery, good luck. I got an obd extension cable with a built in switch from Amazon.

It's 2017 and dealers are still trying to pull this one? Worst there are businesses who profit from it and people who buy the bait and try to sell it to others.
You don't need rust proofing. It's a scam.
Not only are modern cars well protected from corrosion, but they have warranties to back that up. I know Toyota and Subaru are both 5 years/60 with unlimited mileage. Might have been a good idea 20 years ago, but not today.
Here's an article from Doug Demuro mentioning it and one from consumer reports. Searching around on the internet will only get you more of these results.

It was such a pain in the ass because you have to sew it onto the steering wheel. Took my fiancé and I about four stressful hours. But it was well worth it after it was done.
Give these a try:

A lot of the sound quality is lost because of the acoustics of the door. These pads go behind the speakers on the inside of the door to help direct the sound lost in the door forward through the speaker. They would also help with any other speakers you install. Also for information like sizes and other technicals, the ft86club forums are a good resource.
Actually it was a Dewhel reverse lockout from Amazon Probably a no name brand but it worked well! Solid color choice man!
I have not had an issue using a box end wrench on the stock drain plug and I change my oil every 2000 miles since I am on E85. I will probably install the valve in the future, but removing the plug and replacing the crush washer is not that big of a deal for me. I replace the crush washer every time.

Is that this steering wheel cover? How the hell do you get it on?! I gave it a couple minutes last time I had to head out somewhere, failed horribly, and threw it in the passenger seat. D:
I have a front facing car seat that fits in the back of my FR-S and my two year old fits in it perfectly. As my kid states, "Wow Daddy, vroom vroom." Love it.
But if you're set on getting a STi, I'd wait to see what Subaru release next year because the new AWD Focus RS seems to be blowing Subaru out of the water currently.
One option you may consider is using your cell phone as a dash cam. There are several apps out there, for instance:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/dash-cam-android-comparison/
and you can use a mount like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-Magnetic-Window-Mount-Smartphones/dp/B00I9I8WGY
One shortcoming of most phones' built-in cameras is that they are not very wide-angle, like most of those dash cams.
Another option is the Garmin Virb Elite action camera. It has built-in GPS (and cool data logging) so it can be setup to auto start/stop recording when you start moving, and loop recording lets it record indefinitely as long as it has power, overwriting the oldest data as needed.
Good call! Unfortunately, I'm waiting on a replacement unit as the DRLs only work when I turn on the parking lights or the headlights come on but I love the look at night. 😀
As it turns out, there are many different ways to measure volume. One of them is the liter. Have you read the manual?
I bought this wheel kit from amazon. The only problem I had was with the glossifier, I think that the can was not good because the spray pattern and the finish were not consistent.
3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0016HM7SE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Use that exact one. The 5952 VHB is a game changer. The stuff I had on before from the louver company was that other 3M exterior trim stuff and it's got nothing on this stuff.
I would try a battery tester to test both the battery and the alternator. I have this one and it’s worked for me. You can see cranking amps of battery, voltage, and see if the alternator is charging. You could also have an autozone or someone test the system if you can get it to them. If everything tests good I’d say it’s probably the starter.

Silicone gasket maker is your best friend.
Depending on what version you get, i have the one that looks like this. Its been on my car for about 20 months, no issues with anything, no leaks. Quite premium feel actually on it, it even has a cool "fade" when you come off the breaks, it kind of fades out instead of instantly off. I love it!

Oh, I really like the halogen color, and find it easier on my eyes.
Looks like this one is 5500K:
50 bucks on amazon. It's pretty high quality, solid metal, they have multiple color arrangements too. comes with adapters for the threading to fit automatic (m10x1.25) as well.
I purchased this kit from amazon and am very happy with it. The factory head unit has reverse-camera functions built into it, so all you have to do is plug this in, run the wires, and mount the camera. Absolutely the best $150 mod i've purchased for the car.
I was looking for OEM weathermats few weeks ago and found a nice gem. These will potentially get you the OEM GT-86 mats for the price of the FRS weathermats. The reviews say that they got the "wrong mats". I decided to give it a shot and I did get GT-86 mats. I wouldn't give a 100% guarantee but Amazon is good with returns anyway.
Anyone have experience with the upgr8 engine air filter? it seems to cost less than the oem on amazon $19 vs $21 (i know $2 isn't a big deal). It seems to have good reviews on amazon but wanted to get an opinion here too.
I use a magnetic car mount off amazon. I used a dremel and routed out a little piece of the plastic trim around the head unit and ran the cable down that and through the center console. Then I used a switched obd2 power cable to extend to the OFT cable.
The install is super clean if you're willing to cut into your trim piece a little bit.
1) it's a joying unit but they don't sell it anymore apparently. Seicane sells one like it that I'm getting next because it's more powerful, I linked to it in another comment. The controller is a gamesir gs3.
2) the unit was just under 300 and the controller is about 30-40.
3) it's running a custom OS made for it that I haven't messed with. It's Android lollipop but it's got some extras that make it better for a head unit like the software for the backup cam. I used nice Nova launcher to get that look though, the regular home application was garbage.
4) that's a complicated question, but to make it simple it's just like modding the PC version. Each car took a fair amount of work on my part in a 3d modeler and editing game code to be just right. If you want a zip of just the dealership and cars inside I can zip that up with instructions.
5) the head unit WAS on Amazon but is no longer and the game controller is still up there. I did just find this though and it seems nice, I might get this one as my next one, still undecided.

PS thanks I thought it was a nice touch when I was working on it, makes it feel like some special but almost oem thing. Like a special edition of gtasa with Toyota product placement was my idea. Yeah it's hard finding games with the twins, I'm bummed real racing 3 doesn't have it because that's my favorite Android racing game it's amazing. If I could mod that I would.
I envy how much closer you are to the track than I am! The organization I signed up with does not consider this Racing, merely practicing. You can get into Racing if you have deep enough pockets. The specifics about your car set-up, like different kinds of suspension or seatbelts, are usually explained by the organization hosting the track day. You’ll sign up in advance and get an opportunity to look at the requirements and restrictions. This is important for many reasons especially like Laguna where noise is an issue and people use “Laguna pipes” to quiet their car down. Most organizations don’t like the four-point seatbelt that causes the driver to submarine. Other than that it would really depend on the location and the hosting organization.
Yes you usually always need a tow hook and most cars come with one now but you can get a cheap one on Amazon.

That's awesome! Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. I've been thinking of maybe doing red vinyl on some of the interior trim pieces (AC vents and the silver thing around the shift boot). I also added these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FD4XZH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) knob garnishes which look really nice.
If buying new: The box will come with everything you need.
If buying used: You'll need three 2.5 inch exhaust gaskets.
In either case (buying new or used), you want to also get one donut gasket.

As far as putting it together, I just followed the pictures and everything came together nicely. The hardest part by far was applying the stickers. I recommend picking up a tool kit, it helped a ton.
Well I saw everyone with the same ones, before I knew what they were (Valenti's) and I was just looking around on Amazon and found these. A few different styles and they have sequential signals and they look amazing imo. Only $200 too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XRBVZOE?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Meguiars interior wipes or the spray is what I normally use on my truck, my car, and my girlfriends car. Work great, good smell when spraying^^^^^DoesntOverwhelm, I usually spray the rag. Unless it’s bad enough to need a soak.
Edit: The wipes work fantastically on the dash
HOLY CONE FIELD BATMAN! Was this a usual event for this group? Or was there some reason they outlined the whole course in cones?
They could probably cut their setup time in half by leaving out all the extra cones and just putting down the important gates. My local group uses a line marker to give a suggestion of course edges.
For cabin air filter I used this, outperforms the stock one in my opinion, removes odor from the cabin very quickly.

K&N for air filter as others have said.
I use K&N for oil filter too.
For oil I tried a few different brands but now I use Eneos. Engine seems to perform the best and mostly quiet on this oil.
Brake fluid doesn't matter unless you track the car; if you don't just get cheap stuff from autozone (also keep in mind that you generally have to bleed brakes which is a two-person job).
If you track your car, RBF600 is my choice.
I use Adam's Interior Detail Spray. Makes all the dust, dirt, pollen, etc stick to a microfiber cloth like a magnet. Smells awesome too.
Use this afterwards. You can skip the sanding part as it's not really needed for the light scratches that you'll create.
The paint on mine looks better than before.
I use a set of the plastic Rhino ramps. They're rated for my Outback, and if it can support that (at a half ton heavier than my 86) they'll support the BRZ with no problem.
So far I've use it on a few different cars, I recommend them.
As for your ramps you picked out, those will work for the 86.
Ok well, kenwood have a few Android Auto headunits (I'm picking on up myself) the Headunit itself (AFAIK) do not have ODBII connectivity. Kenwoods however (Again AFAIK) can hook into the reverse camera, but it is depends on your car, I think the kenwood one hooks into the CANBUS.
As for ADBII not sure why you would want this in a headunit, if you want it so you can use apps like Dash commander or Torque, Android auto is not for you. AFAIK these apps will not work on Android auto, as the apps on android auto run off your phone.
What I suggest you do is Grab the android Auto app Here, Install it, and try it yourself. The experience on the phone will be similar to what the headunit can do.
First you need this:
Then you need this:
That’s true. The one I have came with a remote, and an app that I can turn it on and off, change color etc. and I just keep it in the little storage area right under the climate controls lol.
Here’s the link for the ones I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087JPV7LX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Try this one, its what I have: Really nice leather, good fit, I put it on top of the existing plastic, did the sewing myself (first time).
Took about 3 hours, and yes, I took the wheel off (make sure to disconnect the battery). This tiny upgrade makes me smile every time I get into my car.
Please look at the weather from November 2021 to April 2022 in Waltham, MA.
Based on the fact that you have multiple weeks where weather is ranging from approximately 20 F to 77 F please let me know how you would do your tires accordingly.
Thanks dude!
It had rained overnight so there was a lot of water pooling on top of the ice that day. Pools of water over back ice will make the ice completely transparent like that. The ice was 16+ inches so it was plenty safe, but yeah that was still freaky.
When we first got there I drove out into a large pool so we could take some cool shots of the reflection, and as I drove out it literally looked like I was about to drive into the lake. We had just checked the depth with my friends auger but I was still soooo nervous to drive on it for the first time. As you can see from the video I got over that pretty quickly :)
Here's the video I took from the day prior, before the rain. In this video I was using another club members super-studded tires. They were sooo bad ass (but not at all street legal). If you can get out on a lake safely this winter I highly recommend it. Its a good place to get to know your car, and its just a ton of fun!
I do not think it is leather at all, mine kind of melted/wore down over time (Its a 2015). So I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TLMQTPH/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Installed it myself (took about 4 hours, and took off the steering wheel to do it). It is such a huge upgrade, smells and feels so good, and is actually really leather. The process was not all that hard, never did anything like this before and got great results, just wanted the Youtube video a whole bunch to learn the technique.
Good luck!
See I was gonna do that but I decided to get these instead https://www.amazon.ca/XhuangTech-Chrome-Hubcap-Silver-15inch/dp/B08D3M5VRT?ref_=Oct_d_orecs_m_9164676011&pd_rd_w=SyaYn&content-id=amzn1.sym.dfcdb466-77f3-4f35-a668-439046086f54&pf_rd_p=dfcdb466-77f3-4f35-a668-439046086f54&pf_rd_r=Z71YSN0ATGZVH2NAH74G&pd_rd_wg=TdBuB&pd_rd_r=316ba466-ba20-4277-b665-ddc5398e4299&pd_rd_i=B08D3KZVJ4&th=1&psc=1
Its a cover that you hand stitch with thread over your steering wheel. Took me about 6 hrs of work. You can do it without removing the wheel but it was a lot easier with it off.
The specific one I bought was from amazon here. But I think you can get very similar quality from here with more options on styles. The amazon took 2 weeks to ship, think it comes from China.
I went with the Viofo A139. It is more or less setup as per their instructions with all the cables running up in the headliner or behind the A pillar trim. As far as power, I normally just have it running to the 12v in the glove box so normally it only records when the car is in accessory/on. I live in a gated apartment in a covered garage so I generally don't need 24 hour recording but for the times that I do, I just throw this Anker power bank in the glove and plug the camera into it.
In my experience, from a full charge, recording at 1440p from the main camera and 1080 from the rear and cabin ones, this bank can easily keep the camera powered for 10-12 hours which is good enough for me.
I use this. I have done hard launches, drifted, etc. and this has never let my phone slip. It's great for CarPlay. Keeps my phone out of the way on the dash, and doesn't obstruct a vent or a cupholder.
I actually wrapped that, the shifter boot trim, the interior door panel trim and the ac trim with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007OXCIB0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Matches the stock carbon wrapped dash trim well.
What kind of tape are you using?
I put a lot of VHB 3m Tape on mine (this one), as well as clamped the wing overnight and it's pretty much stuck on the trunk.
I personally prefer the “pre-bulbed” option that Verus includes with their kits.
Only in plastic though, anything on the frame and I’ll use aluminum to avoid rust issues.

Hey Mike, my brother ordered the AEM X-SERIES WATER TRANSMISSION OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE by mistake, so he's giving it to me for free. Does the auto BRZ have a trans temp sensor?
I got one of these harneses for my lightbar. It plugs to the switches just like the trac box.
The Trac box by gerald is very simple wiring for each function. positive, negative, and neutral for the switch led if it has one.
Yes its carbon here is the link (but its a german one, dont know If you can buy it were you life).
I use the Viofo A129 Duo https://www.amazon.ca/VIOFO-2-Channel-1080p-Camera-Logger/dp/B07CT6JPYW?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_dls_failed

Going to need a battery source if you want to record while parked, some people run it off the car battery but I prefer an external battery pack
If anyone is looking for an option without the hitch, I have a Saris Bones rack that I bought from Amazon for $80. I bought a used one from the Amazon Warehouse instead of a brand new one.
I just put some electrical tape around the parts that touch the car, the avoid any possible scratches.
I picked up one of these three years ago - still $10.99. Fits under rear deck with a couple inches to spare. Grips nicely to OEM option trunk carpet mat.
Definitely the wrong one.
I went with this one when I did a full swap on my 86, worked like a charm.
Hmm, never seen that one, but it might be correct for our cars. I used this one personally:

You don't have an FR-S do you? The turn signal in the headlight needs an adapter harness, otherwise the turn signals wouldn't be connected and you'd get hyperflash in the instrument cluster.
I think any dash cam is pretty easy to install, if they come with a reverse camera for license plate mounting, then that gets a tad bit harder on routing it from inside to outside and tapping into the correct wire to kick in the reverse camera when reversing.
Anyway, I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0895NMDKT/
Video quality is decent, and it blends in because it replaced the rear view mirror, so that is what's important for me. This one works if you have a plain rear view mirror of course.

Hey man, I bought a toyota cargo net for a corolla and it fits perfectly... downside is the price on amazon almost doubled from a year ago when I bought it.

I recently bought a net for my Impreza from this company and its pretty similar quality.
https://www.amazon.com/Trunknets-Inc-Envelope-Toyota-Subaru/dp/B01N7VSB5E
Really you just want an envelope style net that comes with two hooks that replace the clips in the trunk. If you check the pics on the 2nd link you'll see what I mean.
PCA instructor and BRZ owner here:
I don't know how you learn, but I prefer to read about what I am going to do so I can fully understand what I am doing. There is a lot of physics and geometry involved, with weight transfer, variable radius curves, etc. If science isn't your thing, then still try to appreciate what the racing line is, why you want to (initially, as a newbie) brake in a straight line before the corners, what an early apex is, etc.
I found this book EXTREMELY helpful:
also, Ross Bentley, 'Speed secrets' was a quick, easy read.
Helpful hints:
Learn the track. Look at maps, videos. It's good to know whether the next turn is right or left, fast or slow. Learn the flags. Learn passing signals. You will need to know them eventually; best to learn when you have time on your hands than at the track when you can become overwhelmed.
You need a helmet. Some group lend them out. Most don't. Make sure it has the appropriate Snell rating (2015 or 2020). Some places also require full face helmets
Definitely get an instructor. NASA provides them for all novice drivers.
Lastly, have reasonable exceptions. You will be slow. That's okay. Lebron probably missed a bunch of shots the first time he held a basketball. Work on your technique. Speed will come as a reward later.
Relax. Enjoy. Think of this as if you were taking a drive on a nice, twisty, country road that you want to take fast. Now remove all the pedestrians, stop lights, cops, etc that make it unsafe or illegal. Now imagine that you have somebody in your right seat showing you how to do it better.

My recommendation is for the Arkon Sticky Suction Mount and I paired it with this phone mount. Sticky + Suction because I need that here in the desert, and that particular mount because phones are huge nowadays, plus I use a phone case.
I have mine mounted on the little triangular window that's part of the driver's side door, so it's out of the way of my dash/windshield, and I can angle my vent up towards it if I need to cool it down. It falls off maybe four times a year tops - and that's after it's been on for a year or two. I had my first one since 2017, and just had to buy a new mount in August of 2021 - because the suction cup of the old mount had bowed in from the suction force, and was unable to flatten out anymore to create that suction 'pocket' so the only thing holding it up was the sticky residue which I was never very diligent on cleaning up when it would fall. All that to say, it held up VERY well given my abuse.
Also, I use a cigarette lighter USB C plug with an 8-foot cable that I routed through the dash panels and whatnot so there's only like 10 inches of cable hanging out from between the door and dash. I also recently bought a super thin wireless charging pad and put double-sided tape on it, smacked it where the phone goes, and now I never have to plug/unplug my phone. Just pop it in the charger and away I go :]
Oh, also! The only thing I've ever had issue with is those little arms that hold the phone in - I tend to pull/push on them to help open up the holder to free my phone/put my phone in. Those tend to be the weak link and I've had to replace them twice over the 5 years I've had the holder - replacement arms are free from Arkon, even free shipping! :D

I had trouble finding winmax (w2's or w3's) or project mu's because of all the shipping issues oversees.
I ended up with some ferodo ds2500's and just normal centric rotors. RBF works well too if you have the time for a full flush (if you've cooked it before it's a good idea, I did a couple times 😂)
This is the RBF I went with: https://www.amazon.com/Motul-Dot-4-Racing-Brake-Fluid/dp/B005UGKKW2
Yes, it's okay to change pads without rotors. More track-oriented pads have more metal in them so they'll wear the rotors faster. Just check rotor depth before/after tracking and make sure they're still good.
You can gravity bleed the brake fluid. Basically just open up a bleeder valve, let it drip for ~10 minutes, then move on to the next caliper. Make sure to keep the brake fluid reservoir topped off while doing this. With the gravity bleed method, you can do it on your own without needing another person to pump the brake for you. You can also get a speed bleeder set on Amazon (This one is the one for the Twins) which will pressurize a reservoir of brake fluid and make the change faster.
You can also do the ABS bleeding yourself. Basically bleed the brakes as above, then go find a gravel/dirt road - somewhere where you'll have poor traction - then get up to speed and slam on the brakes to engage the ABS several times. Then go back home and do another quick bleed of the brakes to get rid of any air bubbles that the ABS booster may have introduced into the system.
TireRack quotes $150 ea in our size right now. May need to shop around if you find prices lower than that. That's around their normal price I think.
Here is an old Consumer Reports article from 2013 on the matter.
This is the one I have and was surprised at the fit for the price, works well enough for me even in SoCal heat.
This is the best one I've found. It's cut to fit the exact shape of the windshield.
i've done this as a door chime using this device, it solders in place of a piezo-electric door chime
got one of these for a different car back in 2017.

the radio tuner went out after less than two years, and the audio quality overall was kinda shit. i would have liked to have gotten one again but went with a pioneer with carplay/android auto when i replaced my stock FRS head uit.
