My favourite way to do this is to go all the way up Old Mill Drive until it becomes a trail, and you get to Wilson. Like this:
It's mostly quiet roads, trails, and bike lanes. Mildly busy as you cross Fairway, but honestly not too bad. There's a few ways to avoid that too but it makes it a bunch longer. It's way better than Courtland at the very least.
You should include a bit more info about yourself... And more specifics about your interests... Specifically... A lot of people have age restrictions, so throwing out a range could help. Most of reddit may be somewhere around 20, and admittedly, most of these posts are going to be those around 20, so maybe I should just continue to ignore them heh.

Also, as people with more experience will likely respond, there are various board game and other gaming 'cafe's' in KW... And meetup.com is an option, as are likely some various mobile apps.
My recommendation is to get one of these for $10 next time you're on Amazon.

Spätzle recipe is very simple, and nothing in a plastic bag comes even close to fresh, homemade ones. By the time the water comes to boil, you will have whipped up a batch. Grate them into boiling water, scoop up when they surface, and that's it. Enjoy!
Oh, and for the rest of you who have no clue what we're talking about, please order Käsespätzle or Paprikash with a side of spätzle next time you're deciding where to dine out!
Bramm Yards probably. There's SO much space there for real big developments, and it's only divided into about 5 lots. Used to be rail yards and stuff. Been some activity along Victoria but the majority remains untouched.
Manulife's lots are a travesty as well. Previously was a couple detached houses, a row of towns on charles, a couple small factories some companies would kill for. Whackload of old houses on the north lot. But a solid office building is going in on king there now and there are works in progress for a 25-story somewhere on the south lot. The building they're in is a poor use of space as well (had been some pretty big factories and mixed use fronting king)
Other honourable mentions are the St Louis parking lot, charles st terminal (closing soonish, was previously dense houses and i think fuel processing?) and the parking area behind Kaufman Lofts.
Basically it's a Christian thing to precede Ash Wednesday (tomorrow), where Christians get together and have pancakes for supper.
(source: Athiest gay-married to a Christian man)
Probably every other Christian church will be having a pancake supper tonight, and it's likely you'd be welcome to many of those... because Christians.
I'm in a similar situation and have had some luck on meetup.com. I know of a 20s/30s social group that meets monthly on Saturdays that might be up your alley.
This is really easy to DIY. All you need is a heavy duty floating shelf bracket, a piece of lumber (you can cut it with a hand saw), and some stain. Just make sure to mount it on studs.

Try something like this. They're called gaiters or buffs. Stretchy comfortable breathable material. I was having the same issue with masks giving me rashes and also causing my face to heat up. Gaiters/buffs are mainly used for sun, dust and bug protection while outdoors however they are so comfortable that I can wear mine for 9 hours a day at work. The only issue I see with these is that they are not 100% effective in airborne virus protection because they are breathable but if you have it on, your coworkers have nose and mouth covering and you keep your 6ft distancing, I see no issue.
Try NW Waterloo, e.g.
Schneider’s Bush/Mussleman Woods
Geo Time Trail and the West Side trail system north and south of it

I've used this exact Contigo Monaco Snapseal for years. Actually I have three of them. I've never had them leak, ever. Even when I've dropped them a couple of times when they are full
Wallymart also sells them:

Get a cheapo UPS off amazon, should be able to keep the fridge powered for a few minutes during a blackout/brownout. Super helpful.
If you have Android, you should grab "scanner radio". Type in "Waterloo" and it'll let you listen into police and fire radio.
Pretty cool if you see some activities on your street, typically you can find out what's going on pretty quick.
Just last night someone slipped and fell on the ice outside and I listened in.

So rather than provide a helpful response, your contribution is to pick apart another's suggestion which contrary to your reply, does have a recommendation, all the while unable to provide any resources or helpful suggestions of your own. Brilliant
OP, it seems there isn't much around the area, mostly online courses. It does seem the Bartending School of Ontario puts out a mixology workshop that seems to have pretty solid reviews.
https://www.groupon.com/deals/bartending-school-of-ontario-6
There is also BareBones Bartending that has workshops in Hamilton and Toronto;
https://barebonesbartending.com/
It would seem anything with an in-class workshop is few and far between. It might even be worth soliciting a couple of local establishments to see if they offer such a thing?

Look at the graph on the bottom right, "Daily Increase" tab
So, "collegetimes.tv", eh? - "FREE Personality Test: Determine Your Myers-Briggs Personality Type Online In Less Than Five Minutes" - "Interview: Luke ‘Gold Jacket’ Eilers From YouTube Talks Girls, Psychology, And The Human Experience" - "Dirty Words: A Brief Review Of The Most Offensive, Suggestive Words In The English Language. Panties." - "Teachers Unions: No Matter How You Try To Slice It, They Are Corrupt, Self-Serving, And Hypocritical"
Those article headlines alone already make me think it isn't a reputable source, and the comments on WebOfTrust are concerning.
Be very skeptical of a site that is only anonymous crowd-sourced ratings by users, especially one like this website which (from what I find googling) has a reputation for disallowing positive comments on schools. I mean, come on - Harvard's TLDR review line is "Holds accreditation". SRSLY?
Reviews sites on the interwebs typically attract people who need to complain to vent soem anger and, to a smaller extent, people who are extremely pleased with what they got, be it an item they bought on Amazon or a college review.
You'd be better served by looking up something akin to Times Higher Education's World University Ranking where the reviewer publishes a set of metrics, then researches and grades institutions according to those metrics.
There are chalkboards up around Midtown that list several free events in the neighbourhood (mostly just things like block parties or food trucks, etc) but that's pretty cool.
There's a free concert this Wednesday (The Beaches).
Check out the library calendar for some cool free events (3D printing and other media related stuff).
Also check out meetup.com for lots of outdoor, gaming, and sporting events.
It's probably easiest to map things out on Google Maps to get a sense of things. Just search your destination and put in your starting point and it'll show you where to go. I looked up Maple Hills from Fairway Station for you. There are 4 options (there can be more, this is just what it gave me for the Leave Now option at 9:30AM) ranging from 48 to 56 minutes.
Usually, getting around both Kitchener or Waterloo isn't too bad, but it can take a while...sometimes over an hour depending on where you need to go. Like Nextasy said, just about all buses stop near one of the LRT stations (and some malls) so it's not too hard to transfer to a bus.
Cambridge is a little different since they don't yet have the LRT line going to it, though they will in a few years. You can get there from Fairway Station using 2 different bus routes, one that takes the highway to be an express route directly downtown, or another that makes a few more stops. From there, there's a traditional bus terminal where you can catch a bus to most places in the city.
If you're on the go, this is a great app that can help map out LRT/bus routes. A nice feature is that if you enable GPS, it'll give you fairly accurate times for any nearby buses or LRT stops you happen to be near! It's on Android and Apple: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thetransitapp.droid&hl=en\_US&gl=US
You can buy them from Sayal in Cambridge. Not sure they have up to 15 footers though, but they have male to female that is used for servers in datecentres. See this link for what I mean, you can use it as an extension.

It’s been a long time since I spent 8 months out of one year in three separate psych wards/hospitals. 1998. If I hadn’t, I would’ve died.
GRH was utter shit. They were then, they were shit when my daughter was a teen (2010ish) and friends of hers ended up there and from a quick scan of other comments here they’re still shit.
London Psych is closed. But even when it was open it was mostly a storage solution not a treatment one.
Where I actually got help was what was then known as Whitby Mental Health Centre and is now Ontario Shores. I spent 5 months there in an intense inpatient program where we did therapy & classes for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Getting into that program saved my life and allowed me to learn how to live with a very ugly history without being suicidal since. To me that’s the gold standard. A place that both keeps your body safe but also teaches you how to manage your mental health on your own, ultimately. Unfortunately I suspect it’s a bit of a unicorn.
There’s a lot of good advice here, I don’t really have any current knowledge of the mental health system. Mostly wanted to share that you’re not alone. Getting help when you need it is smart and strong and I’m so glad that you’re reaching out like this. What will help you is out there, it’s just a matter of staying persistent and exploring all options. Your life matters.
An interim suggestion: The Mind Over Mood book was used in a few places as part of the treatment. It’s a classic and a good place to start helping yourself while figuring out if & where you need to go. Also, start journaling. Getting the demons and the darkness out of your head and onto paper helps.
Best of luck! You can do this.
On a related note, Wifi Analyzer is an app for Android mobile devices that will let you quickly see what channels are being used near you and their signal strengths.
Just did this trail and it was excellent. Start where I did and there are no crowds. My suggestion is to just pick any random section of the Bruce Trail. The whole thing is great hiking.

>But then again the massive drug users sorry but there is no sympathy there.

Ah you’re in the same boat as one of my friends! She’s from South Asia and hasn’t experienced the cold yet. Here’s some of the tips I can give you with dressing warm and comfortable.
Thermal leggings under your pants! (Not sure what your gender is but we all get cold so don’t let the word “leggings” scare you off- extra points if there’s fleece inside)
hot hands from Canadian tire or Amazon! (If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time I recommend sticking these bad boys in your pocket)
water resistant footwear. (Snow melts when you bring your shoes inside, slush is everywhere during random points, always wear resistant footwear because you’ll have wet shoes otherwise)
I’ll try to update this later if I think of anything
They tend to be in their nest more at night, so good idea to spray then.
Yeah, the number I first saw with respect to the cost of running the Weber and Victoria encampment (which now has a cozy new annex kitty corner!) was $25k monthly back in maybe May? The newer figure I saw was $80k monthly, so a cool Mill.
Anyone interested in reading about productive solutions should draw their attention to Michael Schellenberger's work San Fran-sicko.
I don't love the subtitle, lol, but he draws on the Dutch experience in an effort to address the absolute pox of open drug use scenes in LA. There's hope for these folks AND the community. Much love!

Yeah I didn't find it either so called and confirmed. They need to have a swim diaper at the least, and a swim suit. They don't mind if it's short or long sleeve, or if it's a t shirt and shorts. I would call and clarify either way! I bought my son a swimsuit with sun protection that he can use either for swim or at the beach: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08W2CNQ9F?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share . All 4 corners have this and the sidewalk is open right through all the sites. you have to walk right through this. There is no trespassing, it's expected to walk through it. i just think its crazy who ever did this didnt have to put mushroom caps on these, it's why they exist!. Yeah, I get what you're saying and I thought that there was a fair chance that they could get in. But nothing got in all winter, and I kept adding fresh food the whole time. They definitely got into my pile immediately after I added food.
When I say I'm using a tumbler compost, this is pretty much the same one I bought.
So basically there are thin, angled bars when might present a challenge to some pests. But then they get onto the compost and the whole thing rolls and they fall off. They'd have to carefully maintain their balance while cutting straight through the plastic, or else they fall off. They might also tumble the compost if they try to get a grip on it to chew through it. The lid is very tight and needs to be pushed off, so it's much easier to cut through it if you're an animal.
I'm not saying it's 100% guaranteed to keep pests out. I feel like mice should have been able to climb the bars and squeeze through the gap to get into the compost. Insects can definitely get in and out of it, but that might help the composting process.
But, at least for this first winter, my tumbler compost protected my kitchen scraps against pests while being outside all winter. I would personally recommend this type of composter if you're having trouble with pests in a city.

It would be great to meet local podcasters! I tried running a group on meetup.com for about 6 months but nobody ended up coming out, and I didn't have the time to keep running it.
I have a podcast where we cover the breadth of human fandom called Fanthropological: every week we try to better understand a particular fandom (e.g. Star Wars, the Legend of Zelda, etc.) and oftentimes have guests who provide their experience and expertise. We've been running if for the last... almost three years?

I put this on the reply above but I don't know if everyone on the thread gets notified so I'll put it here too.

Protesting isn't which is why the gathering would be escalated to "unlawful assembly". Your Charter rights can be suspended, that's kinda the point of the protest itself though. Worth watching ~12 minutes in. tl;dw section 33 of The Charter. aka not withstanding clause.
WRPS stated they were in an intel gathering mode, I would take that to mean video, facial recognition, cell taps, etc. At least they don't have the capacity to mount a full on armed response like Toronto or Montreal.

New to KW as well, and I personally am having success with meetup.com. I would recommend you try more than one meetup and/or group. There are definitely billiards, badminton, bowling and food events. For me, the friendships form when I start seeing the same familiar faces at different activities and places. Eventually you'll have some contacts for when there's nothing planned, and go from there. Good luck!
There are masks, almost like a sleeping mask for your windshield where the retention flaps or straps slip inside your front doors and the A pillers and you can tuck the bottom underneath your wiper blades. (Google "windshield snow covers") These do a reasonable job at keeping most of the ice and snow off your your windshield so long as you have the trunk or backseat space to toss a wet tarp during the day.
There has to be authorized VW remote start kits; You'll pay an OEM premium but one that if installed by VW service techs won't invalidate your warranty or cause problems.
Also, pro tip: go to Crappy Tire or hardware store of choice and buy either a dessicant pack (for RVs or trailers) or some reusable colour change beads. Dessicant beads/packs will absorb a lot of the moisture from your breath, slush you track in and keep it from fugging up the inside of your window with frost that you have to scrape or wait 10 minutes for your defrost to get rid of. I have one of these..
Roll your own! This app is amazing, and there are literally thousands of tracks available if you search around.
Ultrastar is a clone of the game Singstar. I've been using it for years. https://usdx.eu/
It's a democracy and in theory they're meeting the needs of the 51%. You'll need to take it up with the system.
Not having government playing it safe can result in massive waste (read: opportunity cost) like the Ontario Solar contracts signed in the 2000s which generated more capacity than needed at ludicrous prices that didn't account for the declining cost of technology. It certainly lined the pockets of rent-seekers though. If you put people who don't have skin in the game in charge of making "not safe" big decisions you get crap like that.
I don't know you but I can tell you're not working class, and I have a feeling you don't have a gaggle of kids. Just a simple principle to consider the lives of others.
I would say we are more than a little colder than Copenhagen and Amsterdam. They're practically balmy. https://weatherspark.com/compare/y/74001~146925~51381/Comparison-of-the-Average-Weather-in-Copenhagen-Kitchener-Waterloo-Airport-and-Amsterdam
here's an article comparing biking in Toronto (even less snow than we get) and Copenhagen. http://spacing.ca/toronto/2007/09/28/winter-cycling-in-toronto-vs-copenhagen/
All these comparisons to major cities. In KW we are small and spread out. We have infrastructure that suits that. I don't know why we'd have otherwise at this time. By step function I mean not just incrementally a little more dense. I mean we need fundamental zoning changes to create way more density before the solutions that work for dense cities work best for WR.
It could be that somehow legit driveway sealant could be dispensed from that cart.
Home stars, or something like that, comes around and tries to buy or broker the house check the basement for leaks or do lawn stuff. The sales people they send to me always seem to be possibly fresh immigrants and look sad when they're walking between houses getting no answer or rejections during the day.
Its possible they are not providing sub part service at all, it just has all the red flags.
Thanks for the heads up, I will update the map. As of now I have 2 people interested in meeting up for training rides so there is still plenty of room if you want to join.
Don't worry about speed, the main focus is endurance and riding as a group. It's not a race :)
If are you still interested in coming along send me your email via PM.
Edit: I should also add that we might be doing this ride on the weekend.
I'm with Freedom Mobile as well. I joined a couple of years ago, when their regular plan was only $30. It's no longer available, but, the plan only has province-wide calling and texting. I don't communicate with many people out of the province, but, when I do, I use Fongo and Google Hangouts to make free long distance calls.
I'm also cheap, so, I put up with their data service (which is easier for me because I'm typically always in a home zone). I've been thinking about trying out one of the "hack the plan" options on http://hacktheplan.net/ (getting a data-only SIM and using VOIP for calls and texts). Currently it's not quite worth the bother.
Edit to add: Also use https://www.textnow.com/ for calls and texts. It's mainly for service in the US, but it's a company headquartered in Waterloo, so, they also offer phone #'s in K/W. I don't use it too much, but, so far it's been free. Fongo has text ability too, but, that's a pay feature.
Not sure if you're only looking in Kitchener, but I just looked at townhouse yesterday in Waterloo that was dog friendly and had a fenced off backyard. 224 Harvard Place

$1500 for a RO system???
I bought one of these https://www.amazon.ca/Express-Water-ROALK10DCG-Drinking-Filtration/dp/B011AEKZCM and installed it myself next to the water softener. Feeds the fridge and a tap near the sink. You can also but it under the kitchen sink as well.
For the softener I went with a more expensive Kinetico model as it has two tanks. This way I have soft water even when it's regenerating. Got it at 5 Star Water Solutions.
I mean, "sometimes"...like at Christmas?
Even if parkings lots do fill up at Christmas, we should be questioning a usage of space which sees expensive investment, environmental harms like, and loss of opportunity (all costs of parking), to be used only a handful of days in the year.
There are other much more efficient ways to manage parking:

These are easy to repair or replace.
You need a screw driver possibly with socket adaptor and just remove screw and take down.
Go to home depot, get replacement of exact same size and put back.
Very typical example.
See the white rotator thing at bottom? Thats the fan itself.
Sometimes you just take that off and clean it and good as new. If it is imbalanced or clogged it may sound off.
Also may jusy T need to be glued (super glue) in place if it has settled too low and scrapes things.

Check out fititout.ca. This is where I got my barbell weights.
I ordered my power rack at fitnessavenue.ca for a great price.
Kettlebells I got from Fitness Depot in KW the day before lockdown for decent price, but they are more expensive now.
For flooring, I used rymarrubber.ca and got the 8mm flooring. Really high quality for good price.
For the bench, I got one of Amazon. This one was on sale for $179.99 last week but I paid $300 for mine (slightly different and better).
Also, I have some weights that I bought for my barbell made out of concrete lmao. I only got 50lbs worth but it was only $40. It's 80 cents a pound. Got it off a friend who makes them.
To answer your question about hair and the tap water here. The Tri-cities has some of the hardest water in the country. I've done a few PH tests and it's usually around 8.6. But that does fluctuate.
You can use a water softener, or don't wash your hair in tap water and instead use a reverse osmosis filter. Use that water instead.
You can also get an attachment for your showerhead. It installs in 3 minutes. This device softens the water as you use it. While not as good as an actual water softener, it does help. You can order it online from Amazon through that link, but they also sell them at Canadian Tire in the Brita Filter aisle and Home Depot somewhere. (don't remember)
Hope that helps.
Someone in another sub made an app that shows local farms! This is the android store link. It's called SimplyLocal (one word I think) and could be a start!
I'd have to wander by and look for myself to take a guess, but given the increase of ticks on top of plants that can cause irritation - I strongly recommend pants and if no boots, tucked into socks if you're walking off trail amongst taller plants.
Also, maybe try a plant identifier app if you have a capable device?
You can use an app like WiFi Analyzer to see what other wifi networks are around, and what channels they're operating on. If the area isn't saturated across all channels, you can improve your WiFi by changing it to operate on a different channel.
> devices are having a harder time connecting to wifi
This suggests to me it's not your ISP. What you may be experiencing is a lot more interference from your neighbours since everybody else is home and doing stuff on the internet.
On your mobile, run something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=abdelrahman.wifianalyzerpro
It will show you the strength of all nearby wifi signals. If yours is not the strongest one in your home in all the places you want it to be, you have a few options:
Physically move the wireless router to a more central location
Configure which wifi channel you are using to a less congested one (it usually does an okay job on automatic, but not always) More info here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.howtogeek.com/197268/how-to-find-the-best-wi-fi-channel-for-your-router-on-any-operating-system/amp/
Buy a better wireless router. More power + better protocols = less packet loss and a better connection. If the one you have now does not have 5GHz connectivity, buying one with this may even be your best option as 5GHz channels overlap less, are more numerous, and die off faster with distance (won't get as much interference from your neighbours).
Set up wifi extenders/repeaters. This will keep your signal the strongest one in more of your home.
Use hardwire. There's no interference. You'll get the fastest speed your connection allows.
Torrenting is a good option to get a lot of content, if you can do it safely. And that means using a VPN
Always pay for a VPN, because if it's free, then your information and privacy is the product for the free VPN service to sell to outside people.
There's great content on Netflix, Disney and Crave, so I don't see why you think we're getting screwed.
In this world you gotta pay for stuff, that's just how it is. Paying for a VPN and torrenting shows is the cheapest option. Private Internet Access (PIA) is good, and I also hear NordVPN is good.

Paid $279 on Amazon, so you can get these cheaper than what they are selling for now. Made my Anker, which is quality but low cost Chinese made electronics. Good quality picture, 30 day video storage without a paid subscription. 180 day battery life (to be determined) but essentially you just unscrew them, bring them in, plug them in for 5 hours and screw them back on. Really easy to install and set up. Checks a LOT of boxes and won't break the bank. Just make sure you have good wifi signal where you're looking to install them.
Great suggestions here - another thing to consider is to carry (or wear) a whistle in case you feel concerned and want to draw attention quickly. Hopefully never to be needed, but good to have. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B009CCOYMM/ref=s9_acsd_zgift_hd_bw_b2f5kHr_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_r=86KN2GV1C82YNKW8EMCC&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1148892a-6b91-597c-bca9-0042259b9403&pf_rd_...
That wasn't some cheap medium-grade lock.
And you don't seem to know how to use bolt cutters. With some thought and preparation, it's rather simple to cut off a u-lock in almost any position or situation. But please continue believing that your bike is secure...hopefully no one proves you wrong.
