Rent is this city is horrific. I know, you know, we all know. There's a lot of people struggling here with you, you're not alone in this at all.
Basically if you want to save money, you're going to need to lower your standards. You're saying £600-700pcm if you don't want to live in an unhygienic dive? Well, you might need to reconsider what you consider a dive. For example this place: https://www.gumtree.com/p/double-room-flatshare/riverside-estate-zone-2-card-sky-fibre-internet-inc-london-bridge-cannon-street-canary-wharf/1156747359 is only £540pcm all in, and don't seem to dive-like to me. You're telling me travel costs are expensive, and don't I know it! But there's a quick an easy solution to this: buy a bike. Get a decent one, get it set up nice, get some waterproofs and lights and all that shit. You'll end up spending maybe £250-300, but you'll have saved that money in less than three months. And nice food? Dang man, I feed three people on a budget of £70 a week and we eat fine. Everything I eat might be marked "Tesco Everyday Value", but a bit of creative cookery and some nice spices means everything can become tasty!
So yeah, lower your standards and buy a bike. That's pretty much it. Cut your food budget in half and look for property to rent more in the £550pcm price range, and you'll be saving money much easier.
edit: I just re-read this and realised it sounded kinda unsympathetic, or like I'm accusing you of having too high standards in the first place. That wasn't my intention, it's just horrible matter of fact. You damn well SHOULD have decent standards of living. Everyone wants to have a decent quality of life, lived to a decent standard. It's just cruel fact that in London, in this housing economy, and on your income..
Well if you want to save, you're going to have to drop some standards. That's how working class people live in London. That's pretty much the only solution to your problem.
In case you do not know, Landsat 8 captures satellite imagery which can be easily visualized in this tool by Mapbox:
~~https://www.mapbox.com/bites/00113/~~ https://www.mapbox.com/bites/00145
This "live" is like Google Maps: It shows the latest Landsat 8 satellite image for each part of the world.
For the less tech savvy people, please please please, use a "USB condom". These stations are great for stealing all your data. They can potentially mount the memory (both internal and external) and download all your data. A USB condom removes the data pins from the cable therefore the stations can literally ONLY push power and are physically unable to mount the memory on your phones, as opposed to trying to download all your shit.
Stay safe and use a condom.
EDIT: These are the ones I use
Can we get a twitter list of London journalists on the ground going?
I've got a list of 7 already; if you reply to this with more I'll update that.
Currently (now 9):
Link to list (anyone can view the updates).
Edit: I'm still adding them but not updating this anymore.
A thing I have found helpful to carry with you is a small, but bright, flashlight. This one can be put on full power with a double press, and on strobe mode with a triple press. It has saved me from unwanted attention a few times. It's really hard to harass someone if you cannot see. It needs to be a high performance light with a high lumen count and and easy to use interface.
I'm selling my old one on there, I'm legit & can provide documentation. Probably not the best platform to be posting on if everyone is presuming they're all stolen.
I'll knock off £100 for reddit m8s r8s.
You cannot. For that you would need another viewer. This site only shows the latest images (unless they are very cloudy, in that case they skip the update).
The images are distributed for free by Amazon Web Services https://aws.amazon.com/earth/?nc1=h_ls but professional software is needed to render each capture.
EDIT: I linked the wrong link, this is the better viewer provided by Mapbox https://www.mapbox.com/bites/00145

Do you mean a red money pocket? Or just a red envelope to put a Paperchase type card in?If you're looking for a money pocket, most Chinese or Vietnamese grocers will carry them. If it's an envelope for a card then you could try Cards Direct or Card Factory and buy a card and choose a red envelope from a different card to go with it.
Also a bit of annoying ask from the bride. I'm of a similar culture and while red plays a big part in wedding traditions, it should by no means fall on guests to incorporate that into a gift.
Could get something like this and lock it to your door knob.

Hi,
~~EDIT Athe app is not able to sync at the moment due to TfL website performance issues. hope this is not caused by Reddit traffic O_o~~
Oyster Sync, free and with no ads android app now allows you to one-click submit service delay requests to TfL. If your journeys is delayed by more than 15 min for reasons within TfL control (signal failure etc) you can request journey fare refund. The app highlights in yellow all journeys that took more than 20 min (15 min delay + 5 min margin to amount for waiting for the train, walk between gate and platform etc) compared to TfL journey planner's estimate and displays a form to automatically submit claim to TfL.
New version is available on beta channel now, I'm looking for testers/early adopters as my journeys are usually very short so I've never claimed for delay refund myself.

Thanks
No. It's a bad joke with not much thought behind it. And technically it could be quite counterproductive:
This article puts it quite nicely: There's a growing frustration with the elite. Which in turn is a relative term. For the lower class it's the middle class. For the middle class it's the upper class. And I (personally) think there is a similar frustration for the rural population with the "city-people".
There definitely is a big divide between them and it's only growing. I see the danger in jokes like the above that people from Non-London could take it serious and think "Oh those arrogant Londoners, thinking they are better than us, wanting to leave,…", which would make the divide only bigger.
This doesn't really exist and isn't part of our culture, though you may find it in certain pubs whose clientele skews a little towards the older market. It's difficult to find them, though.
Your best bet might be game/activity bars, of which there are a few and are easy to google: ping pong, board game places, pinball, arcade bars are constantly popping up over town.
Take a look at /r/LondonSocialClub and Meetup.com too.
Which version of Windows are you using? If you get a flash drive (they are called SSD) you may notice a boost in startup times, particularly for XP and later.
There is also some software you can get to accelerate your startup times: http://download.cnet.com/Anvi-Startup-Booster/3000-18512_4-75910443.html
I always find that clearing my internet cache and not having too many desktop items goes a long way to boosting my startup times.
Songkick is the business, even though they did change the UI a while back to make it harder to see all gigs in a particular location.
The main gig venues are all pretty good at sending our regular emails about what's on sale soon. You can also sign up for emails from See Tickets, Ticketmaster, Stargreen and other ticket retailers.
Keep in mind that most gigs go on sale on Friday morning, often with a presale on the Wednesday. You're much less likely to miss stuff if you get in the habit of scanning the main ticketing sites at some point on a Thursday.
Finally, if there's a band you really can't miss when they come to town, make sure you're on their own mailing list.
Last year we were trying to take visitors from Switzerland and Iran to a chippy and it was not as easy as I anticipated - we ended up taking them here near Bayswater, which was ok.
But the decline of the chippy is lamentable. A colleague was moaning yesterday about taking her grandson to one, only to find the prices these days are extortionate compared to the massive portion of chips you used to get for rock bottom prices back in the day. Apparently wet weather has screwed up the year's potato harvests as well, meaning prices may get even harsher.
The march of the kebab is unstoppable...the grey squirrel to the chippy's red. However if you feel like missioning to the ends of the Earth in Ickenham, here's a living specimen in the wild - even the Wetherspoon's next door hasn't killed it...yet.
So California just passed a bill to allow driver less cars
Yet here we are saying the tubes won't be safe without drivers, I'd beg to differ. It does really suck loads of jobs will be replaced by machines yet again, but this is the future. Bring it on!
Download Citymapper on your phone and follow what that says. There's different options going by bus or tube, so it depends on what whether you think fewer changes or getting there faster is easier.
I would sympathise, but the transaction is calculated as a percentage of the overall price and given the price of rent is so ridiculous here, this is also correspondingly over exaggerated.
I can guarantee that in most cases across the country, 1 weeks rent + VAT would not work out to around 300 pounds.
You might turn around say that this is somehow the same in other service industries. Let's take waiting tables. Most chain restaurants (like Byron) maintain similar prices across the country, so while tips are normally calculated based on the food price, London waiters and waitresses receive similar nominal values for their tips as their non-Londoner counterparts, but as the cost living is higher, they have to live on similar incomes, with higher outcomes. (37% higher if we compare it to Manchester for example).
But let's say that you work in one of the many service industries that has rising prices to correspond to London prices and managed to stay afloat. Let's compare the workload to the estate agents. In a fixed supply market, the price of a service is more reliant on demand then supply. This means that the higher renting price is not due to an exerted effort by the estate agent, but by the demand of the house. The only reason they get paid more then a non-Londoner counterpart is because more people are willing to buy their service.
TL;DR They're getting higher fees for less work.
While I appreciate you mean well you are very much talking in a bubble mentality.
I think what Google turns blue isn't really the true line. Notice it goes straight through Warren Street. Which i think isn't right, judging by this map. It think Google's highlighting is more "conceptual". The grey line may be one of the true lines. openstreetmap has lines for both directions, that seems more consistent with the 3D map than the blue line.
It was installed during the station redesign in the late 20's by Charles Holden and John Mowlem & Co. Its nice to see a company that tries to change the market, but people still hate ads, but it is indeed nice to follow.
Sadly they don't have that big-named events, and seem to be able to find more hipster-like events, but that is more up to the organizers.
Songkick ( http://www.songkick.com/ ) does some cool things too, but they are a bit more shady in my book. They announce prices like:
Buy on Songkick for £30 (no hidden fees!)
Buy on competitors site for £28 + £2 (fee).
Fees are hidden if they are just included in the total price.
don't panic! the tube is fine, the signage is really clear.
Waterloo-wembley is just the North/wesbound Jubillee line form Waterloo direct, no changes
Try logging into the router and changing the wifi channel, if you're in a block there could be a bunch of competing networks causing interference.
If you have an android phone you can download wifi analyzer, which will show you a graph like this, try and pick the channel with the least amount of networks using it.
I use the "London Oyster Contactless +" app from Han Interactive. It was £1.99, although there is a free trial version.
It supports widgets, multiple cards, and a cool feature is if your phone supports NFC you can tap your Oyster card on the back and it will load the app. It doesnt read the card via NFC it just loads the app and pulls the data offline.
Worth re-reading
If people think the Brexit vote is a disaster, wait until this man becomes Prime Minister.
Interestingly some restaurants in the US are actually moving away from tipping to flat service charges or just having it all rolled in to the menu price - this ensures that (a) you fairly distribute money across both front-of-house and kitchen staff and (b) you avoid variations in tipping caused by customer biases (research has shown that tipping can vary based on ethnicity and gender of the server).
https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/13/dining/restaurants-no-tipping-service.html
Personally, I think that a standard service charge, which is fairly allocated across all staff, is fairer than tipping.

I've found RHS Wisley to be very pleasant when I've visited it, albeit it's just outside the M25, relatively speaking.
From what I could see the train costs about £13.00, so a little overbudget, and it'd be a long walk at the other end.
Just mail him a check. It costs a dollar to mail a one ounce letter to London from USA.

Also, TfL is the body that oversees the transport system in London. You're looking for TfL rail.
Sign up for the NOW TV entertainment pass. It's GBP 7.00 a month and you can watch the episodes after they've aired on Sky (plus they also have a lot of other great shows on there).
EDIT: You could also try getting the season pass on iTunes. On the UK store, the episodes should be available soon after they have aired, however with this I'm not a 100% sure.
Great thread. Can I also offer up Mubi as a streaming service, who have a library of arthouse/lost classic/experimental films, and who have a 3 months for a quid offer on right now. It got me through the first lockdown.
A bit more local, BFI Player does a 14 day free trial.
I'm so tired.
Had to literally roll out of bed & onto the carpet to make myself get up this morning. Was running so late I had to grab a flask for my morning tea. Missed the 0719, took the 0724 (lots of empty standing space towards the rear end of the train). Saw three different men (one on train to Cannon St., one on tube to Temple, & one at café on Houghton St.) reading Paul Kalanithi's When Breath Becomes Air (I only noticed it because it's on my to-read list).
I'm pretty sure you could do it yourself using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ilixa.ebp&hl=en_GB
The pictures are 48 squares by 48 squares - it'd just be a case of finding the right palette, printing it in colour and using it as a template. You could buy a bunch of single 1x1 lego squares and make it.
Reddit is even worse than Meetup.com for awkward and odd people, but there are still normal people there.
My advice is to join a sports club (preferably mixed) and attend regularly. The key to making friends in London is attending regular events with like-minded people. It takes time and continued interaction to make friends.
think NJ guido meets poor white trash. a burberry flat cap would just be a common part of the uniform.
Amazing coincidence: Somebody else called David, also a photographer, was stopped from using a tripod on Hampstead Heath this morning. But he worked for the Guardian, so editor Alan Rusbridger took a police caution over it.
I completely understand what you're saying and on a personal level I do pity the drivers because they will have their jobs taken away, but at the same time you've got to take the personal, biased opinions away and look at it from a business point of view because where there's money to be made (or in this case saved), sure as hell someone with money is going to choose that path. One one-off payment for the setup and a tiny amount for ongoing maintenance and the big boys never have to pay those wages again.
On a global scale, we're in the technological age, well and truly finished with the industrial. The days of man-power over technology are finished, and we are seeing these kinds of positions that can be automated slowly phased out and replaced. There are already news articles written entirely by AI which of course isn't made mainstream by the media.
I really didn't mean to sound harsh toward TFL or the drivers but my point being is that whether we like it or not, the minority with the money will make it happen.
^shit ^sorry ^for ^the ^longwinded ^post.

Amsterdam has a higher average number of days of rainfall than London https://weatherspark.com/compare/y/51381~45062/Comparison-of-the-Average-Weather-in-Amsterdam-and-London.
A large percentage of trips in London are under 5km, that is perfect cycling distance to not get sweaty, even further distances are fairly easy in London to do without sweating, especially on an electric assist.
Agreed on EV, they’re not the saviour they’re made out to be, one because of the manufacturing process, but also space for parking and charging.
Instead of spending a fortune on creating parking, we should be looking at subsidies that will encourage more active travel.

Meanwhile you can buy a brand new PS4 (with games) for £250 from Game, second hand on eBay from £150ish or even as low as £70 on Gumtree if you don't care about playing online...
> 3) Lastly, would you recommend renting a car or just cabbing?
I was going to be all incredulous about this question but I'll be nice. As everyone else says, you should use public transport to get around. It's not just cheaper, it's also much faster. Check out Citymapper (the app pretty much every Londoner uses to get around) for an indication. Here's an example: to get from my office to Savile Row would take 38 mins in an Uber and cost up to £15 ($19), whereas the same journey would take 32 mins by Underground and cost £2.40 ($3). By bike it would take 28 mins and cost, well, £0.
Put aside whatever prejudices you might have about public transport. I know in most parts of the States it's considered the inferior way to travel: dirty, slow and full of poor people. But in a city like London - and really in most large Western European cities generally - it's fast, well-maintained and used by pretty much everyone.
EDIT: Also, there's really no contest between four days in London versus four days in Stockholm. All reports I've heard back from Stockholm indicate it's pretty boring and extremely expensive. London is... well... the greatest city in the world? If you're dead set on Scandinavia at least go to Copenhagen, which has amazing nightlife and great food.
That's un-watchable. Run it through the Hyperlapse software: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/hyperlapseapps/
There'll be a watermark but it might result in something interesting.
That's fairly standard though. It's the same in the tech industry - if you work in NYC, London or SF, your salary is adjusted to the higher cost of living. You can see an example on Buffer's salary calculator: https://buffer.com/salary
When choosing a site for a major office though, you also have to consider the pool of available talent. Sure it's cheaper to set up elsewhere, but will you be able to easily fill up a new office (with all its fixed costs that you incur from day 1) with potentially hundreds of new employees in a sensible timeframe? London's a pretty good place for finding good people in numbers across almost any profession.
Meetup.com has at least one I can find in central London
Authentic Lives
In a response to a gaping hole in government provision of mental health services, a group of us (in our more able moment) got together to take our mental health into our own hands.
So Who Are We?
We are a non-judgemental support group, facilitated by an organisation called Authentic Lives – This is a free service.
Together we use the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and incorporate them into our day to day lives. Often we feel our close circle of family and friends don't really understand what we are going through, or we may feel that they are tired of listening to us say the same thing. We may have never spoken to anyone about the way we feel for fear of being a burden to others. We talk, listen and support each other and if asked we offer suggestions.
Try meetup.com and find a wine/gin/champagne tasting in your area.
There's other stuff like art and museum visits too.
Thursdays are always after-work drinking nights in London, so everyone from work/school will be there. Usually.
Appreciate this isn't what you're asking for but rather an additional tip - download 'The Cloud' from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.thecloud.fastconnect&hl=en_GB - while it won't give you universal coverage, a huge number of local coffee shops, cafes, etc, all use The Cloud to offer their customers free wifi. I can't remember how I did it but there's an option in there somewhere to automatically connect to ther network when in range - might save you a few £ which could otherwise be spent on precious, precious beer.

Walked past here last week. Shithole. How it's got this reasonable Trip Advisor rating is beyond me!
they're frequently debated and shift about fairly often – eg no-one talks about Notting Dale much any more. I think a lot of the time people call them neighbourhoods, like here on airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/locations/london/neighborhoods
People often focus too much on language, rather than business skills.
Businesses often have 'workflow ugly' processes that they need cleaned up. Software that needs to be ported, updated and hammered to fit that square hole.
As a result, if you've got strong enough maths, and learn say F#/C#/Java/Scala/Erlang and go towards finance, you will see
You also have areas such as quant trading, which the rules to this just do not apply.
The worst thing people can do, is learn a flavour of the month technology, ignore fundamentals of computers science and focus on just one language. For instance, some years, using a 'odd' language like F# or Scala pays better. Others it's just C# and some framework (say WPF or Silverlight) that pays better.
Neat layer of it on google maps, (It will ask you if you want to open it in google maps)
This probably isn’t very ethical, but if you can’t afford to buy books, and don’t mind ebooks, then I’d recommend:
The have thousands of free ebooks with different file formats. I’m a student and can’t afford to buy books, so I use it quite often.
Word is that the guy who was arrested just ran an irc server for Lulzsec. Anonymous have already issued a statement saying that nobody involved in LS proper has been compromised.
The Met's own statement doesn't make any mention of the Census claims - the guy who was arrested today was probably completely unconnected to that claim.
If it does emerge that LS have compromised the Census, you can expect that the police and security services will have a fire lit under their feet, but for the time being I'm satisfied that today's events are not related in any meaningful way.

Coventry to London is a train job. You'll want to buy tickets for that in advance. Shouldn't be more than a few quid. Check out https://www.thetrainline.com/
The oyster card is only valid for travel around London. If you have a contactless credit card you should be okay, but getting an oyster card is a good idea. Only covers travel around london. Usable only where you see this. They're on buses and at the barriers in tube stations.
You could get a travelcard, but I wouldn't be able to say if that would be economical for you. I'd advise you get an oyster; they're only a fiver and make things a lot cheaper, very quickly.
If you have the space, there's normally a surprising amount of free pianos on freecycle and gumtree. See here.
Normally just have to collect it yourself. I once had three people wheeling one down the streets of Camden whilst our mate sat in a wheely office chair and played it.
Its not normal to get that done here,(people dont' put images on their resume for example) f anyone has it, their company would have paid for it
If you look at family portrait photographer a bit out of the centre you might have more luck.
gumtree might also help https://www.gumtree.com/photography-services/leyton you might be able to find a wedding photographer with some spare time
Just mail him a check. They will charge him a small percentage as a fee to convert exchange rates. He will have to wait 10-15 days for the check to clear. Ignore the folks who make it more complicated than that.

If it is a small amount, paypal me the money and I will send it over.
See the black cars going round with an orange light that have "TAXI" on them? Stick your arm out and whistle, or shout "taxi," and one of them will stop.
Or download the Citymapper app on your phone and that will tell you which route to take on public transport, and how much it will cost.
You will need to buy an Oyster card from the nearest Tube station (Tottenham Court Road or Holborn) to pay. I think your best option will be to get the bus (number 19 or 38) from outside Tottenham Court Road tube.
Well I mean most of the advantages of transport apps come from their online features - most these days can tell you live departure times of buses, trains, tubes etc, and will update you if there are delays.
What operating system do you use?
For general travel I use citymapper which is available on Android and iOS. It works great for putting in a location and finding the quickest way to get there from where you are now, and will give you different options and prices for each alternative.
Most of its features need internet, but it does have an offline tube map.
Sometimes I find citymapper to have a bit too many options when I just want to know when the buses are coming at a bus stop I'm at. For that I use this android app which is really simple and good for showing you when buses are coming. Again, needs the internet.
I understand the idea behind it; my point is that from a usability point of view I do not like it.
My work desktop runs at 2560x1440 and this is what the page looks like:

Green is wasted space. There's a lot of it. And now there's stuff that could be useful down below the page break.
By all means, make your site pretty, but rather copy https://www.apple.com/ or something similar where everything fits into one viewpane.
Also, amusingly, if you submit feedback, the feedback card doesn't hide but is rather populated with the TFL website in shrunk format.
Download this app for your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.tso.ctt do an hour a day and you'll be golden.
If you really we any the highway code then: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code
Get a filter mug or cafetiere and a selection of ground coffees and find one you like.
I drink my coffee strong, black, with no sugar and I can't tell you how awful many coffees (most instants are pretty terrible for starers) taste. Milk and sugar help disguise a lot of bad coffee, take them away and you will become a lot more picky.
Personally I've mostly drunk Taylors Rich Italian for the last few years, which is pretty cheap and you can buy it ground or in bean form in most supermarkets and Amazon/online.
Brixton squat around 1983. But I got a novel out of it, now ranked number 5,703,080 in the Amazon Bestsellers list. Hooray!
If you use android I recommend the app I've created - Oyster Sync - main features of the app are
The app uses internal/unofficial TfL API to retrieve cards info as TfL provides API only for journey planner/stations info.
The app went live in October, some statistics: 5,000+ downloads, 000s of daily users, 100 new users per day, 250 out of 400 submitted refund claims were successful.

There's a series of 3, that's the first. I don't know how the numbers would work out in London, be interesting to see.
I'm a life-long Londoner and share your pain. I will say keep going to meetup.com with the intent of doing sometihng, sports, events, whatever, rather than socialising ones as it attracts more... Sane people.
I'm also a big advocate of the LSC events as well. I'm beginning to become a regular in one of the Monday events, and run a fortnightly badminton one, and occasionally go tot he Friday one. I agree the bigger groups can be daunting, but smaller ones can be good for socialising. Otherwise, coffee is always good!
I put together this Google form so we can all choose who we'd vote for.
You can see results in progress here: https://docs.google.com/a/mattandrews.info/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ajgosv7jtUb2dFlzU2dwd2Z6ZlZRMFpWcVVISG1CTkE#gid=0 -- if we get enough votes, I'll post a graph at some point next week of who we would have elected.
EDIT: not sure if this link will work but if it does, here's the current votes but in sexy chart form rather than spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/a/mattandrews.info/spreadsheet/gform?key=0Ajgosv7jtUb2dFlzU2dwd2Z6ZlZRMFpWcVVISG1CTkE&gridId=0#chart
Last year the race distance was accurate and the route doesn't appear to have changed. I'm doing it today with a running watch that tends to be pretty good - especially in a place like Battersea. I'll post a follow-up.
> For reference the race was advertised at 5.6k and seemed to be a bit longer than that (my entire running club came in pretty universally 2 mins slower than their usual time over that distance
How many times do you actually do 5.6K? It's a pretty odd distance - I've never done a 5.6K race outside JPMCC - 2 minutes or more slower than a 5K would be expected.
If you're including time to get to the actual start from your wave, that will easily make the extra distance.
I'm hoping I can get near the front of Red Wave.
Not really. The point of LinkedIn is for recruitment people to contact people for jobs. Getting messages from recruiters is pretty much the idea. It's why you have to pay LinkedIn for various messaging features.
Look at how they advertise Premium for recruiters:

I've used Meetup.com a lot since I've been in London, for language exchanges, business networking, film making, sports and, er, probably a lot of other stuff. Highly recommended. Whenever you join a group make sure to disable notifications or else your inbox gets spammed to sh*t.
Also, Gumtree is packed full of groups and events and stuff. Good to keep an eye on. Oh, and obviously Facebook, although I hate FB and avoid using it.
The Maple Leaf? Yes, but considering this : http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g186338-d655147-i17694841-The_Maple_Leaf-London_England.html and http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g186338-d655147-r253926417-The_Maple_Leaf-London_England.html#REVIEWS I wouldn't call it poutine at all. It just looks like cheesy chips and not actual poutine :(
Keep an eye on Gumtree's sublet section (of which there's a couple on there that might suit you already) or Spareroom (the advanced search is really good if you plug in 'short let' or 'sublet') – there are always plenty of students/freelance people who give up rooms for a month or two and want to let it out.
If you do go for an Airbnb look around East London – Whitechapel, Mile End, Bow, Stratford are all easily accessible on the tube.
Yeah just the City of London which doesn't cover where he's standing in this picture - but if you want an opinion on what the police can do inside parliament without permission of the sergent at arms, then you'll want to consult someone way more knowledgeable than me.
Regarding carrying it to/from the city, it's complicated. He's not importing, selling, hiring, lending or giving the sword which avoids a lot of problems (and if the sword is old enough, problem solved much easier) so presumably he could say that "taking this to exercise my rights as a freeman" counts as a 'good reason' under the knife crime laws.
It must be possible to have a sword in London, as all the Queens Guards carry them out of the barracks and onto public streets.
So many people on this subreddit talking down to people who own cars like this in the Knightsbridge area. The owner is a world champion kick boxer who has worked hard to get this. There's literally 200 Ferrari 458's in Knightsbridge and no owner wants their supercar to look common, besides; it's a supercar it's supposed to look over the top and crazy. When you have your own Ferrari you can mock other people choice how how they want their car.
EDIT: Also I'd like to see you say this all to his face. Owner with the car
No way. Even the least impressive Moscow Metro stations nail any of London's. As for the grandest ones, they're incredible!

it kinda depends. In the UK (US is MUCH more cert focused), Sysadmin type stuff itself is more focused around experience than certs , although certain companies regard the solutions architect associate as pretty good for people if they are heavily using AWS.
I work for a consultancy so i build stuff but don't operate it. This is awesome because it means i work 9-6 and go home, never are on call, and rarely have to troubleshoot anything once it's built :D It does mean I don't always work from the same office location, which can be a bit weird sometimes.
You can have a look at our job specs for things if that helps show the kind of things we look for.
