For me, Cerberus. It's a security app that costs €5 a year, which has awesome features. Here's what I've got enabled:
Does not allow you to put the phone into airplane mode or shut it down from the lock screen (so that it can still be tracked if stolen). (It will perform a dummy shut-down from the lock screen, but remain active).
Will take a photo with the front-facing camera and email it to me if the wrong passcode is entered 3 times.
Accepts texted or in-app commands (with my password) to: lock with additional passcode, track location, take a photo, play a loud alert (and take a photo when the alert is dismissed), or wipe the SIM.
Check out Cerberus for Android! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
Once I left my phone in a restaurant, and the waitress tried to unlock it. I only realized when I got back to the office and pictures of her face were sent to my email inbox with every failed login attempt. I've never been more eager to return to a restaurant!!
You can also record voice, forcibly dial a number, take screenshots, videos, pictures from both camera, you-name-it.
Extremely powerful security app with a huge number of features for remote device control. If you have root, you can set it as a system app, so even a factory reset will not remove it. For a small one time fee, I have it on all my Android devices. My favourite feature is that it can take a picture whenever there is a wrong password entered on your locked device, and you get emailed instantly with the photo.
Some features from their Google Play Store description:
>No he turned it off immediately unfortunatly
Next time, get the Cerberus app. If someone tries to shut it down it can play a fake shutdown animation so the thief thinks it's off. It can also disable Power Off from the lock screen, so no one can turn off the phone unless it's unlocked. It costs $15/year for up to 3 devices which is $1.25 per month. It's worth it for me.
It has tons of features beyond locating the phone such as remotely activating camera/mic. If you get good evidence from the camera/mic, you can turn it over to the police.
On stock Android, go to "Settings," then "Security." Scroll down and view "Device Administrators."
If you see "System Framework" or "Cerberus," then Cerberus is installed. I highly recommend the app, by the way. Cerberus Anti-Theft
If you have Android, you're looking for Cerberus.
If you're rooted you can download a flashable zip of the disguised version and it will appear as 'System Framework'.
Also if you're rooted and install it as a system app, by flashing, it can't be removed even if the phone is factory restored.
Secondo me vi è semplicemente finito in mano il cellulare dello smanettone sbagliato.
Cerberus definitely isn't dead. You register by buying a $5.5 lifetime license which works with up to 5 devices by using the regular app.
The website and the client app are for logging in only and for tracking your device.
I had a guy screw around at work and pocket my phone one when I left it in the break room. I made the phone freak out in his pocket after a little while. Used this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
> Start with Device Finder backed GPS tracking
Disregard Device Finder, acquire Cerebrus.
It's a paid solution ($5/yr) but look at the feature set.
Cerberus is very close but in my opinion far superior to ADM.Ive been using it for a while now and its been fantastic. Text to trigger actions or even do it from their web interface.
First App to get installed with every new phone or factory reset. Can even be set as a system app to be installed automatically if the thief happens to know how to factory reset the device from recovery, among many other little tricks.
A security app called cerberus (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus) can disable airplane mode and the power menu until the phone is unlocked but I believe it is around $5/year
Cerberus or any of the other apps that provide security if you lose your phone. You can remotely turn on GPS to track it, wipe the data, and so on. We don't often think about it until it's too late, but it's a good tool to have in your pocket just in case!
It's the best anti theft app available. It is absolutely mind boggling how much you can do with this application. If your phone isn't dead when it gets lost/stolen, there's almost no reason you wouldn't be able to find and get your phone back. You can record audio, take pictures, send messages/alarms, fake a shutdown, not allow the device to be turned off...the list goes on and on. Highly recommend to everyone. Wish this type of functionality was built into Android. Google should purchase Cerberus and integrate it into the OS.
*No I am not affiliated with this app or it's developer, just genuinely love it and its usefulness.
I was one of the early adopters of Cerberus App, and whilst the release of the new Persona app doesn't affect that lifetime license, the new app forces anyone wanting to use it into the new subscription model, which is a shame really.
Although having said that, realtime sharing to the people I'd want to share with most in the event of an emergency is already in WhatsApp, so this is a non issue for me personally.
A step in the right direction all the same, what with everything happening these days around the world :/
This is a security app that does that, and a lot of other things.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
Well worth the price, I used this on all my phones.
I cannot recommend Cerberus highly enough. It pretty much does it all.
Want to set your phone to call/text/email if lost? Check. Want to setup an area that you live/work/play in and have it report when you leave that area? Check. Want to have it display your personal information, produce a siren, call the cops, turn on location services, take pics, anything else you can think of? Check.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
It's an app that helps you recover a stolen phone. If you root your phone, you can even make it a hidden system app so it survives a reformat.
I recommend cerberus. I had my OnePlus One stolen and it worked perfectly, in a sense that I got all my data and locked my phone, even though I never got it back.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
Android has Cerberus, that does this. It also has a "Find my phone" through web, and a bunch of other features. I'd recommend it!
EDIT: Found the link It will e-mail you pictures of people trying to unlock your phone.
Cerberus has this feature: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=de
And here is how to do it: https://www.cerberusapp.com/help.php Under "Which commands are available by text/SMS messages?" -> cerberus password wipe
PSA: Cerberus Anti-Theft is the best app available for recovering or finding your device and everyone should have it installed. It takes pictures when wrong lock codes are entered, you can set custom passwords and wipe device data and tons more features! At the very least, everyone should have Android Device Manager installed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Check out Cerberus. It offers a lot more security features than the two you listed (but no anti-virus features, I don't think you really need any on Android unless you're being careless).

Been using the paid version of Cerberus for years, still think the features it offers are way better than Google's answer.
That said, I bought it years ago, and can't even remember how much I paid then, and not sure how much it costs now.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Yes it would need them.
There is the costly option of Cerberus, which some people praise!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Don't know if it also use google services, maybe other apps available.
Cerberus, without a shadow of a doubt! Immensely powerful, has a wide array of features, offers a free trial ~~and you can upgrade for a single one-off payment~~.
If it's Android and you signed into it with your Google account, use the same account and login on any other computer. On the web, search for Android Device Manager. That's gonna help you out a lot.
For next time, I'd highly recommend this app. It's paid, but it offers a lot more features than Andorid Device Manager. You can make the camera flash, sound an alarm on the phone, take pictures from both front and back cameras, as well as remotely wipe the phone if you need to. There have been a few times I've left my phone in the garage or somewhere else at my house, then I remotely took a picture and saw my garage roof.
If it's an android phone, you can sign into the Android Device Manager and perform various security actions. You can lock it with a custom, new passcode, wipe it, or make it scream incessantly until it powers off, and track exactly where it is in the world. This is all assuming that it's been set up, but with more recent versions of android it's harder to not set it up.
Funny, sure, but it'll hardly combat the root of the problem at hand here - just create an annoyance.
You could go to the police, file a report saying it's been stolen and say you know who stole it, depending how antagonistic you want to be to the principal. You can also contact your carrier and have them brick the phone, again saying that it's been stolen. If you have insurance on it and want it replaced, you'll need that report saying it's been stolen.
In the future, I would reccomend an app called Cerberus. It's fantastic anti-theft: it'll give a running log of where your phone is, take photos of people trying to unlock it and perform all sorts of wipes/locks.
Funny story: a few years ago I worked as an assistant teacher in a high school, and a kid had his phone confiscated for using it in class in the morning. The teacher that took the phone locked it in his desk until the next morning and left at lunch time, and the kid set off the alarm causing it to vibrate and woop-woop extremely loudly in the staffroom the whole rest of the day. No one had a clue what was going on.
Why not something that takes pictures of the thief with the front camera and provides GPS tracking to the device? Something like Cerberus will do that and will also auto install itself again in the event that they wipe the phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
The police in some, most? areas of the U.S. will drive you to the location and help you get your phone back if you tell them that you have installed anti-theft software on the device and it is pointing to a particular location.
You should have Cerberus installed. It's highly recommended by just about everyone. It's anti-theft/loss.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
I wouldn't worry about anti-virus unless you are installing shady apps outside the app store. Stick to reputable developers in the app store.
None of those will actually protect you from the attack you linked to. The best you can do to protect yourself from this particular vulnerability is to prevent your MMS messages from automatically downloading on your device in Hangouts and Messenger, or switch to something like TextSecure
As for anti-virus on your phone, I've yet to see any actually do anything beneficial. You're better off just being very wary of what you download from unknown sources, but also from the Play Store, since you never know what bugs apps will have or what sneaks through Google's screening process. This is also of course where the privacy guard you mentioned is nice, or an AppOpps implementation if you're rooted.
Pass-code and encryption will help prevent a thief from getting your data if your phone is stolen. I also recommend you look at Cerberus for even better anti-theft measures.
You'll need a third party program for this. I use Cerberus. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
It has an option that on your lockscreen you won't be able to access the power menu and/or swipe down from notifications.
Install Cerberus on future devices. More features than ADM. Can also be installed as a system app to avoid a wipe. Can still be tracked after a wipe.
You could try using Cererbus anti theft.
One of the interesting features of this program is that you can set it to take photos of anyone who enters an incorrect password.
If someone is really meddling with the phone and you start keeping it locked you'll get some pics emailed to you of the culprit.
> If someone tried that or put in a wrong passcode the tweak would take a selfie and send it via mail to you along with the location.
On Android, Cerberus does this.
App used to be free, but is now freemium (maybe paid only, can't remember).
I have this app installed on my phone that allows me to take pictures, record audio & video, and track the phone's whereabouts anytime I want. Also can make it play a loud noise when its on silent, or even wipe its contents with a click of a mouse (Cerberus). It's for anti-theft purposes, but if I can do it, anyone can.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
It doesn't get any better than Cerberus that licence is good for 3 devices.
Then you can install Cerberus Client on your phone.
I'm selling my phone soon, and have concocted the following plan:
Ship phone charged with a still activated SIM and a copy of Cerberus. Whoever unlocks it is going to reveal their location and get their picture taken. If they claim it never arrived, I'll be able to prove them wrong.
The legality of this really depends on the wire tapping laws of whichever state you live in. Find my phone apps are out there, but having the ability to record audio, and video, track gps, and set off an alarm, are features that will cost you a pretty penny. Cerebus is the cheapest solution. They say you can't use it to track people, like your kids, but reserve it for if you need to find your phone occasionally or if it gets stolen. I used it outside of their TOS for about a week before they picked up on the activity I was using it for. Technically, if someone steals a mock package from outside of your door with your phone in it, they are stealing your phone. Give us updates! GPS will most likely not be accurate enough to track the specific apartment they are in. Maybe they will start playing with the phone and you can trigger it to snap pictures on unlock etc. with the front facing camera. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
Use the Google Authenticator app for two-step verification.
Unfortunately no. ADM doesn't report last known location for some reason.
The ADM app is basically just a mobile-friendly front-end to the website. I guess the idea is you install it on your backup mobile / tablet (or someone else's), when you're on the road and don't have a PC at hand. The app doesn't help the tracking in any way.
ADM is a very basic, and even flawed solution for lost/stolen devices. If you're the kind who tends to misplace devices, then I'd highly recommend a third-party solution like Cerberus. In addition to a much more superior tracking system, you can do heaps of other things like remote control your device via SMS, remotely take photos and videos of your potential thief (or to identify the area), and so much more. And if you're rooted, you can even make it survive a factory reset, so that if someone seals the phone and resets it, Cerberus will still be active!
Cerberus (Android) can do this, it is one of the best phone security apps on the market imo, I am not sure if this is the app they were talking about, but it is capable of that function and many more.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en

I use an app for Android called Cerberus. You can track it, set off an alarm even if it's on silent, view installed apps, record audio remotely, view call and message logs, and a whole lot more. Buying it 1 time covers up to 5 devices I believe. Well worth it.
While Lookout is a great app and company, anyone interested in some much more powerful anti-theft features, I recommend Cerberus Anti-theft - even includes a feature that emails you a photo from the front camera of whoever tried and failed to access your phone.
Another point to add, is that every time you do a factory reset, you have to have it connected to itunes, which checks with Apple's database to see if its stolen. The guy at the apple store in your original comment probably had access to that database on site.
As for Android phones, a bunch of 3rd party providers (including Verizon, At&T, etc) have phone locators and remote memory wipe. There's also beefed up versions from independent parties like cerberus that have insane features to lock down your phone, and even survive a factory reset.
For future reference, look into the Cerberus Ant-Theft app.
It's come in handy quite a few times since I frequently leave my phone in random places.
It has quite a few outstanding features that can all be accessed from their website:
Take photo using the front or rear camera and mail it to your email.
Take photo upon X amount of wrong passcode entries and mail it to your email.
Show current location
Show location history
record video and send it to your email
You can also lock it, format it, and display messages like with many other apps, but I haven't seen other apps that perform so reliably.
I have no idea what else you could be doing withing the device manager, but don't forget to report the theft to the police and for that remember to have your device's IMEI at hand (should also be on a sticker on your devices original package).
For the next phone you should definitely invest into anti-theft software like Cerberus!
Cerberus can do this for you, You will have to pay for it but I find that it's worth the price, although you can try it for free for a week. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
he/she is using a third party security app called cerberus. I know lockdown pro does the same thing and I'd assume other apps as well.
Cerberus https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus Will let you track the phone, lock the phone remotely, check the location by sending a certain sms to the phone, Screenshot from the Web interface, request sms logs, call logs, turn off the device, display a message on the phone. It's meant as a security app and costs a little bit absolutely reliable and worth it. It won't let you see his snapchat and instagram, but there is no software that is able to do that. However I think the dumb phone solution might be a good idea for the next 2-3 years.
Try Cerberus. It's an anti theft system but can be used for protection. I have been using their service for a year now and never looked on to something else as to what it offers. You can remotely see the location, record a video, click a picture, record audio or even call yourself if the person isn't answering.
I use an app called cerberus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
This app mainly enables you to track your phone, but it is also possible to vibrate your watch when the connection is lost.
It is also possible to setup actions from your watch to take a picture of enable emergency mode.
I recommend Cereberus app for android. It cost like $5/year or something. You can set it to give you full access to the phone from their website.
I would also recommend Cereberus app for android. Can basically set it to give you full access to your phone online. Can do everything as if you had the phone in your hand.
I also have FindMySamsung on my galaxy. Never used it, but I've seen that its there.
Honestly just mimic Cerebrus. This is the best anti-theft app on Android (I have it on my parents Android phones), and it works brilliantly. Why can't Apple bake these features into the find my iPhone feature?
Can't say I have this bug.
Any chance you're using an app like Cerberus?
I recall they had a setting that blocks people from swiping down on the notification bar while screen is unlocked.
Except, sometimes it'll ended up persisting after the screen was successfully unlocked... which causes you to not be able to swipe down from the bar.
Any chance this is what's happening for you? If it's not Cerberus, do you have any other apps with such a feature?
If you are talking about Android device manager vs. Android lost. I will suggest you to use both options.
Android device manager only works when your phone is connected to internet. If you don't have internet connection, It won't work because It doesn't have SMS commands.
Android lost can work with or without internet. It can do more than just locating & wiping your phone. So it gives you more control.
If you use Android device manager + Android lost, It will be a good solution.
Android lost is a free app. OP only needed for basic location functionality & He will be going to remote area. That's why I mentioned a free app that can ask for location using SMS command.
But If you need proper anti theft apps with even more options, You can check paid apps like Cerberus & Where's my droid.
If you want location tracking thing & phone is always connected to internet, Google maps location Sharing & Life 360 is very good options. Because If your family members want your real time location using Android device manager, they will need password of your Google account for it. (You can create a new account for this purpose though.) So Google maps location Sharing feature is very easy to set up & easy to use compared to Android device manager on Phone.
I never used life 360. But It's also a very good option. It has some more features. You can buy them for more functionality.
I don't know if this a tasker solution, but for a while I had a free subscription to Cerberus, and I am almost sure I remember an option being if a blue tooth connection was every lost it could alert you.
Está en la store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Is it an Android or iPhone? I believe both can be located if you had GPS on before you lost it. If you do manage to locate it, don't even think about going wherever it is alone (unless it's in a pub you know you've been to) - go to the cops and hope they will do their job.
In the future, I recommend installing Cerberus (Android exclusive) on your smartphones.
Cerberus can disable notification pulldown on a locked phone
Also there's an option while setting passcodes where it'll ask you if the password is required to turn ON the phone, it comes before all other settings i believe. Check that option out while setting a passcode in security.
A lovely story, and I'm glad you got it back. I paid for Cerberus a year or so ago and I've never had to use it (hoping I'll never have to) but it's good to have stuff like that there just in case.
Cerberus is a fully featured device tracker where you can do many things remotely if your phone is lost or stolen. First App I install. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
If you use Cerberus and have an Android Wear device paired and setup, it can alert you when the Wear device loses its connection to your phone (typically due to moving out of range).
Trade-off is (and why I don't use it), it doesn't consider switching to Wi-Fi connection as still being connected. So if I have my watch on and go to the kitchen while my phone's in my bedroom, my watch will start going crazy.
There are several options on Android. My personal favorite is Cerberus Anti-Theft. You install the app on your phone, and link it to an account on their web-site. Then you can configure all kinds of security options, such as taking a picture when someone tries to unlock your phone more than X times, and having it emailed to you. You can also remotely control a bunch of stuff on the phone through the website.
As an Android user, I'm able to do this with Cerberus, and it's definitely something that would be great if possible on iOS - even if through a jailbreak.
You mean wipe the device? Yes. If you are concerned with your data being compromised then wiping it is the best form of protection. You can also remotely wipe with Android Device Manager.
Cerberus is another app to remotely wipe/lock/find your device too. It has a lot more features than Google's version but requires a subscription. If you are rooted you can also make it survive wiping. I use this one because I can manage my fiance's device from the same account and I can make her phone talk while she's in meetings...
Sorry I can't help with your phone. Try coming sometime after 4pm, when most place will be opening, but before the rush. Also I highly recommend the Android anti-theft app Cerberus. Aside from geolocation, you can also send messages to display on your phone, check SMS and call logs, lock it, wipe it, etc. Good luck!
Cerberus is close to what you want. It allows you to wipe remotely, you can also locate it using it.
Most people who would steal your phone probably aren't bright enough to know how to flash a rom
Any mods? I ask because I have Cerberus Xposed and Greenifyy donation package through Xposed and it may be fixed now but I have an issue if I enable GCM in Greenify most GPS related actions will cause my phone to reboot. Examples would be I have Cerberus installed, if I log into my Cerberus account and send a command to phone it will reboot my phone. Or even Android Device manager. Or If I send a Glympse to someone, if they check it to get my location, my phone will rebbot.
The 6P doesn't have this feature natively, but you might check out Cerebus - I think it has similar functionality (paid license, around $4-6, but could be worth it): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
No problem, if the phone powers on and connects to the internet it should wipe. I'd guess the phone will get refurbished and wiped anyway but the password change should keep you safe from any account problems. You may want to look into Cerberus it's like Android device manager with way more options. Not only can you remote lock and wipe the device but you can take videos, send commands to the phone it even has a radar function for finer location than just the map device manager uses. It's not free but it's one of the best solutions if it's lost or stolen.
Yep, straight to whatever email you specify - which means every so often I get weird photos of myself when I've managed to put it in wrong... ;-)
Cerberus isn't free, but it's worth it IMO.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus for more info.
Free option is Android device manager and Cerberus is vastly superior, but costs.
If you can get on the internet without wifi you have a data connection.
I'd suggest Cerberus, it's a security app which lets you track your phone, remote wipe it, remote access to the cameras, remote audio access, and SO MUCH more. Here's a screenshot of the dashboard when you log in to their website to track, please ignore all redactions as the app shows a lot of sensitive information, but that dropdown menu you see scrolls with more options.
It's free with IAP to unlock full features I think, I'm unsure exactly to be honest because I got it when it was free for a week.
For future phones I recommend you download Cerberus. It can take pictures of the perpetrator, set an alarm, and it can even be set so that it cannot be deleted with the exception of a hard factory reset. It costs some money but it's well worth it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
> If you have a smart phone and are scared about it getting lifted, keep your data on and gps on high accuracy so that you can track it if you lose it.
The only answer to this one is Cerberus if you use Android phones. Worth every rupee.
I suggest Cerberus. It does this and so much more. You can track your phone, remotely lock or even wipe it, take pictures and video, record audio, make it play a loud annoying sound, sent a message to the thief, etc. etc.
I currently have four years worth of photos taken from entering incorrect unlock phones in my Gmail account. Had I known it would have scored me some easy karma I would have posted them a long time ago,
Do you have device manager installed on the phone, or any other security like cerberus
> an app on my phone that if someone texted me 'ily' it would quickly turn on my gps, text him my coordinates without my knowledge, and turn GPS back off.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Basically, "ily" was set as the "lost phone" code.
Your closest bet is probably Cerberus.. It doesn't do exactly what you're wanting, but if your phone is stolen, you can go to the Cerberus website and ping the location of your phone record video/audio and have it emailed to you, take pictures with the front or back camera and have them emailed to you, etc., all without the thief knowing.

The ultimate lost device app for Android is Cerberus.
And https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager does the same thing and more for Android.
Edit: Also Cerberus for even more functionality. (Play store.) Thanks mrwazsx.
Cerberus saved the day for me yesterday. Got my phone back and the thief that stole it is in jail.
Cerberus has this option, too!
Shout-out to Cerberus, definitely the best anti-theft app.
It's free on the Play Store. You gotta root your phone to install it as a system app though.
Yep, I would also recommend Cerberus for even more functionality!
Yo if its an android phone you gotta get that cerberus anti theft shit on it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
If you're interested in this kind of security, use Cerberus if you have android.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
"Geavanceerde spionagesoftware"? Dat is gewoon Cerberus.
It doesn't get any better than Cerberus.
Do you mean Cerberus?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
I use Cerberus. Just gotta remember to reactivate it when you upgrade your OS!
Cerberus by a long shot.
For all my android brethren -
Cerberus is a great security app.
Cerberus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus,
Tasker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm + AutoWear: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autowear,
Emergency Alert Button: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incorporateapps.emergency
These are just the start - personally I prefer Cerberus - as the app allows the user to be tracked on the Cerberus website, but much more usefully - it allows trusted phone numbers to text the user and automatically get back the location - which means it doesn't rely on the user having a data connection and it allows the user to be tracked in the event they haven't been in contact for a while and people are starting to worry (user is unconscious before they have had a chance to send the "help me" SMS).
As for phones - take your pick - literally any Android phone ever launched will do this job - but any released in the last few years will be fine. Try and stick to Android 4.3 or above - because Android Wear requires (4.3+?). On the watches front - again - take your pick, if cheap is the order of the day, picking up a <$100 LG G Watch will do the job nicely.
Heaps but my top ones are:
•Cerberus antitheft - as title suggests, it has saved my phone on three occasions (apparently they aren't doing the lifetime licence on purchases now though.) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
•Flytube - best YouTube screen overlay, ideal for use with this (I can't seem to find on play store now)
•SD maid - a system cleaning app, I tend to use it straight after using Greenify - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm
•Greenify - battery saving app, best used rooted - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
•Yummly - my secret weapon on stay at home dinner dates - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yummly.android
•Sleep - night monitor, alarm, white noise app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.sleep
•Twilight - handy light filter app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.lux
•Walk with Map my walk - as title suggests - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapmywalk.android2
•WQ4U - UK only, call centre redirector app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orderlysoftware
Must add...To fund all my app purchases I use Google Rewards, I would never spend my own money on Google play.

Try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Works well for me!
Use Android Device Manager, it's built in to Android. You may also wish to try Cerberus.
Can recommend cerberus for Android.
Cerberus does this – I'd recommend you have it installed on your phone anyway.
That looks awesome too, thanks for that.
Here's the link for anyone else who comes along and is wondering.
Cerberus (Android only) and Prey (both iPhone and Android) are anti-theft applications that allow the device owner to capture screenshots, internet logs, location data and other usage metrics from a phone remotely.
The apps need to be installed once and then operate in the background invisibly.
Your mom could have done something like this. On Android it is possible to hide the app from the App drawer so it is difficult to check if it is installed.
iOS makes it harder to disguise the app, so you'd probably be able to work out if it has been installed.
Cerberus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Prey for iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/app/apple-store/id456755037
Prey for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prey
You can display a full screen message with Cerberus. Message can be customized
Enable android device manager on your phone. & Enable device administration for it. It only works if your phone is connected to internet. But, for more control use these apps. They can also work using sms.
Best paid app combo - Cerberus + lock screen protector
Best free apps - lost android + lockscreen protector
Alternatives -
where's my droid + lockscreen protector
tickle my phone + lockscreen protector
Note :
You can use any app from this list. I will prefer Cerberus , lost android & where's my droid.
But, Don't forget to use 'SIM Lock' feature on your phone & use lockscreen protector. This app will disable power button function when phone is locked. So, thief won't be able to turn off the phone. (He will be able to restart the phone though)
Disable notification preview on lock screen. Select 'hide content'.
Edit :
If you use tasker or macrodroid , you can make your own anti-theft tasks.
If you're on Android, Cerberus is a phone tracking app that can be used over sms

Bereits zweimal. Und beide Male wieder bekommen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
You could try Cerberus anti theft (highly recommend BTW) but since you're in a building it's not going to be that accurate.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus It's one of the many security options with this.
You can use Cerberus to do this. It has lots of other useful security features too. Well worth the money IMO.

Cerberus gets lots of love around here.

Found it myself, its https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
No upvote from me until I see proof that you're running Cerberus on your Cerberus phone.
You could look into Cerebrus (anti-theft) if that is what you are trying to achieve.

Don't know if there is an Iphone version, but I use Cerberus on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
One time purchase.
All these apps are for Android.
I use Helium to backup my device. It backs up all of your programs AND their data. Most backup apps just backup your apps but not settings and data. In my opinion it's the best app for backing up a non-rooted device. There's a free version, but to restore the data you have to pay for it ($5). Personally I use Google Opinion Rewards. It's an app from Google that sends you surveys through the app and pays you in Google Play credits. So I just basically pay for it with credits.
For finding a lost device, Android Device Manger provides basic tracking, but I personally recommend Cerberus. It allows you to track your device, remote lock, remote erase, as well as some unique features like recording audio, taking pictures with the front and rear camera, and it can also be programmed to email you a photo from the front camera whenever an attempt is made to unlock your device by someone else. So if the fingerprint, pattern, or pin is wrong, it silently takes a picture and emails it to you.

I believe Cerberus Anti-Theft has that feature. Note that a lot of the higher level functions of Cerberus require root.
I would just use Cerberus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
Edit: Assumering her phone is android, but there should be similar apps for iphone

It's a couple dollars and offers more than Device Manager does.
Cerberus Anti theft. That shit is one of the best anti theft apps out there for android. Cerberus
Cereberus is by far my favorite. Though, there is a free trial period, It is very much worth the money.
If you install Cerberus it stays active even after wiping it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en_GB
Look into the app Cerberus definitely worth it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
LPT: Install Cerberus.
Cerberus can be remotely installed via this link. Never had need of it, but it has gotten rave reviews in the past. Just go light on the pestering such as the horn at first. Don't want them to wipe and lock you out.
Or just install a tracking app that lets you wipe your phone remotely. Not sure about iOS, but Android has Cerberus and it's a life-saver.
