You should check out Komoot, there is a website and an app. Now generally it is designed for active people, but it lets you plan routes and save them, plus with thousands of users saving off routes you might find a few that are already good for you.
So you can say “Walking, get a route in Edinburgh between 1 and 2 hours, difficulty Easy.
Secret Edinburgh book is very good. Bought it a while back and l found new things…(not related or even know the author).

Anyway I'm LOLling like a crazy man right now. Wow.

store bike in your flat
avoid trams when possible special in wet weather
Try https://www.airbnb.com/ for the short term (you will have to pay, but it's not a bad option if you've got nothing else, and there are some pretty cheap options). How long are you planning on being in Edinburgh? Most leases are at least 9 months, but you may be able to find people letting a room for a semester.
Where did you come from? Sorry I don't have much great advice, usually it's best to come with a little more of a plan if you're moving somewhere. Best of luck!
I've also found it odd that Priority Groups 1-9 had their rollouts so carefully shared with the public, but Groups 10 and beyond for the general population are not. However, I was finding this link helpful: https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-scotland ... I was checking it out regularly in previous weeks and the estimator definitely does change as data changes. Of course, that calculator speaks for the whole of Scotland rather than just Edi but it was all I could find.
Flat hunting in Edinburgh is difficult enough when you already live here and can take months to find somewhere, with a pet it's going to be a lot harder for you. Is there no one that can look after the cat where you are now? If you are set on getting a place of your own I'd advise doing some research first, speak with the French Consulate in Edinburgh, they should be able to help. I don't mean to scare you but even if you were to come up for a week now it's highly unlikely you would have somewhere for January, agencies make you jump through hoops for weeks before you can even sign a lease these days. My advice would be to look for private rooms for rent on the likes of https://www.gumtree.com/property-to-rent/edinburgh You would be far better leaving your cat and moving into someone's house that has a room to rent for six months while you find your feet, get used to how things work here and settle in at your new job. The time will fly past and you can search for a place of your own while you are here. Good luck.
I don't have one, and also don't live in the city at the moment even if I did. However, this one on amazon looks pretty good and comes in at about £17 including p&p. If you're hard up it's still a sizable expense but you can always sell it on gumtree/eBay and get most of your cash back (I've done this with old Halloween costumes).

By the way, this is a really sweet idea.
Needle-nosed pliers will work for these, if you can find one thin enough.
Alternatively, it looks rather like what you have is one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Era-Sash-Window-Stop-Brass/dp/B008DSGRA8
If the dimensions from that match what you have, this key would seem to be what's needed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Section-Window-Handle-Lock-Long/dp/B00Y1L6XZK
£500 is probably grotty one-bed flat, or halfway decent flatshare. I'd be looking for a flatshare (probably best done a lot nearer the time), maybe in Portobello or somewhere along the road from the college into town - the 44 bus would get you back and forth nice and easily, and if you stay the east side of Leith Walk you'll miss the worst of the traffic.
This
would be an example, although you'll likely want to find a flat with other students (for council tax reasons, apart from anything else). I doubt there's much hope of a decent flat to yourself at that budget, although others may know more.
When I'm out with the kids, I use this app as a useful reference, though obviously with Covid some of these may be temporarily unavailable

Hi - I'm an admin for two of the bigger wild swimming fb groups in Edinburgh (The Wild Ones and Wardie Bay Wild Ones) and have been wild swimming around here for about 10 years. Recommend you join one or both of those groups for safety tips and location suggestions. The biggest safety tip is - don't start in the middle of winter. People who are swimming right now started in summer and carried on so a. their body has acclimatised gradually to the cold and b. they're already familiar with the way their body feels in cold water, so they have an idea when to get out etc.
Hypothermia arrives quickly, and doesn't give you any warning (after all, it's cold when you get in the water, so working out exactly what level of cold is the right level to get out is a fine art). You can feel slightly euphoric in the early stages of hypothermia which makes you feel you're dealing well with the cold, when you're not. And when it hits properly, you'll suffer confusion, which makes it hard to get warm and dry and/or summon help (never swim alone in winter for this reason). Contrary to expectations, your body temperature drops for a while after you get out of the water, due to a phenomenon known as the afterdrop, so you need to get out when you have plenty of body temperature to spare. In winter, it's not just the water temps that are colder, but the air is so much colder that you really need to know how to get warm and dry as quickly as possible, not to be working it out for the first time when you're on the fringes of hypothermia already and it's only 2 degrees out.
Anyway. That's my advice!
(I have so much advice that I actually wrote a wee book about it in the hope that the vast influx of new swimmers from this year would read it and not get hypothermia since we can't swim in groups at the moment and pass on pearls of wisdom - it's only a fiver, it's here if you want a read).
Programs like F.lux to lower the blue light a few hours before bedtime are really helpful, and I find it's great to create and stick to a few habits that you do every day before sleeping. Turning your screens off every day at the same time and then, say, reading a bit, or a nice cup of tea, or really anything you like that winds you down and sticking to doing it every day will really get your brain used to the fact that it is now time to sleep.

Also, exercise and light during the day do help.
I've found my last 3 flats on Gumtree. All private lets. Down the left hand menu in Gumtree make sure to set the "Seller Type" to Private. Then scroll down past the 'featured' ads that always appear as the first few. Right now it says there are 250ish private rents available. https://www.gumtree.com/flats-and-houses-for-rent-offered/edinburgh?seller_type=private
Have to agree, Photoshop's a very non-cheap bit of software, probably costing more for a licence than the entire cheap PC most internet cafes use. Don't suppose you could get by with something like https://pixlr.com/ ?
This is kind of cheating, but Secret Edinburgh - An Unusual Guide is brilliant for this. If you want a project with the personal touch by putting it together yourself, you could always cheat by buying yourself the kindle version and steal some ideas!
If you have an Android phone, you could maybe install Free Pee which shows where free public loos are.
I've not used it in a while though, so can't promise how up to date it is.
EDIT - also, I just found this Google Map from the Council which might be handy to have. Same caveat though.
EDIT 2 - weirdly, that Council map works fine on desktop, but I can't see the markers on my phone.
It is, kinda, it's just not released in the UK (and other parts of the world). It was first released in Aus/Nz then USA a day later and it was planned to be released in UK by now but after the USA release their servers got overloaded by the amount of people playing the game so the slowed down release 'till they got things fixed.
I'm sorry to hear that /virtualhug. Things will get better, but if you want to get involved in social activities, as people said below, Meetup.com is a great way to do things. There are a lot of activities happening around Edinburgh.
One of the things I started doing recently is joining a salsa dancing class (Latin Roots), the people are very nice and supportive. The group also does social things (they have a Christmas dinner coming up and they had a halloween party and drinks), if that is your thing, I would suggest you give it a go.
Hang in there :)
That sucks, I was in the same situation a few years back. The only way out as you say is to start having a life in Edinburgh and trying to make friends. I would suggest checking out meetup.com, they have groups for all sort of topics here in Edinburgh, from jogging to dancing to programming, and all you have to do is showing up.
Check out gumtree, there are loads of garages listed for rent, but you will probably need commit to at least a month.
If your budget is less that 2K your best bet is Facebook or Gumtree and look outside of the city, prices seem to be much higher here. If you look across the bridge you'll find a bigger range of options.
Something like this would be good if your just driving around the city
If you're willing to pay I can recommend this guy - https://www.gumtree.com/p/removal-services/man-with-a-van-wayne-/1245021767
Seems to have been called that once. Google rarely completely makes things up but it gets things from odd places (or people) sometimes. In Edinburgh, use OpenStreetMap if you want a decent map, it's not great everywhere but there's a decent community of mappers in the city and it's way more up to date and doesn't just show you things that have paid for prominence. You even get the location of the door for loads of street numbers though that isn't over all of the city.
Hi there, few going here;
If the link doesn't work just seacrh Thom Yorke on Edinburgh Gumtree :) seem to be face value too, good luck.
Try Gumtree, watch out for scams though!
Ahh... I remember using - I'm pretty sure it was Autostitch - back in the day, before the lazy option of using panorama mode on the phone arrived. Though that's obviously quite some quality level below your SLR!
There's not really a Scottish site as such, just look for reviews for the UK as a whole. And to be honest, they may well be the same ones as in OZ - OkCupid, Match.com, Eharmony, then you have some more targeted ones - fitness-singles, uniformdating. Plus a lot of general interest sites will have white-label dating services. If you're a Guardian reader, there's Guardian Lovemates, or whatever. Etc.
Good luck.
If you don't have a port, and can't test with a friend's machine that does, then you could always get one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-1000-Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00M77HMU0
Yep I've done this before when faced with a similar fizzle of some component inside the hard drive enclosure shitting its pants. If you have a desktop PC you are golden. Get the drive out of the external case, plug it into a spare bay in your pc and fingers crossed.
If you only have a laptop, get on Amazon and get smth like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bipra-SATA-Adapter-Power-Drive/dp/B001A5SK56 Let's you hook the drive up via USB to any computer.
You can buy day tickets on the buses themselves with the exact change.
You can alternatively buy the tickets on the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.corethree.lothianbuses or you can buy pre-paid tickets in the lothian buses shops around town
Forget the dynamic earth...while its a really amazing place for kids, its not geared up to adults. Its kinda all dumbed down so if you have more than two brain cells i wouldnt bother.
As for places to eat, i think edinburgh is fantastic for food.
For budget \ medium priced yet excellent places i would recommend bar napoli (italian) or chez jules (french) which are both on hanover street.
The mussel inn seafood place on rose street is beast.
Cafe andaluz on george st is also awesome although book ahead.
In terms of a tourist attraction you have missed, i would recommend the royal yacht britannia. I am by no means a royalist of any means and when i first visted it, i was highly skeptical. But its awesome! Its really fascinating.
Its also a real analogy for the class divide! And also only a tenner.
One final recommendation would be the zoo. Youll need to take a short bus trip to get to it but its good. About 13 quid entry though
For the buses id suggest getting a day ticket which is 3.50 i think. A single ticket is 1.50. So any more than 2 trips a day and its paid for.
Id also suggest downloading this app for the buses
Its beast.

a) a "biker" can refer to either a motorcyclist or a cyclist.
b) seriously, he's posted about some cunt having nicked his bike and you're splitting hairs about bikers?
Hot tip if you can't find enough or good enough NXX masks, FFP2 and FFP3 are also good and fit for purpose. I wear one whenever I go out and haven't had any sort of respiratory sickness since I started despite attending uni classes in big lecture halls. I order these ones off Amazon for myself and my partner and they've worked well so far!
Worst case scenario get an empty hard drive caddy and put hard drive into it and transfer files from it to another laptop/computer https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-Custodia-Ottimizzato-Supporto-EC-UASP/dp/B00OJ3UJ2S/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=3MIEFRL1GD0G4&keywords=hard+drive+enclosure&qid=1664558813&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjI1IiwicXNhIjoiNC45MSIsInFzcCI6IjQuMzEifQ%3D%3D&spref...
If they're making it in through the windows, you could always get window netting, allowing sun and air through but not insects.

If I had a vehicle that was targeted by these vandals, I'd be tempted to get some locking valve caps like these. They're £4 for a set, and have the middle-finger emoji emblazoned on them...
While that would work, if you don’t need portability and will be keeping it in one place, a plug-in model which is a bit bigger will usually give better performance - larger aerials, you aren’t paying for battery. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tenda-4G03-Unlocked-Configuration-Connectivity/dp/B08R7JYNSM
What about breaking the whisky into 2 shipments by said TaskRabbit?
I'm assuming you want to drink the whisky and not just stick it in some glass cabinet to stare at longingly in to your twilight years?
If you've got an Android phone (not sure if it's on iOS) there's an app called 'UK Ghost Excursions' which basically has every haunted place in the UK on a map.
Seen this in the US, it fits into an open window, two fans and extendable screens both sides: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Comfort-Zone-Cz310R-Twin-Window/dp/B004TAYQXE
(dunno if this one is any use, but just to show the design).
While this isn't a tick, if it was - you're better off with some kind of removal tool than tweezers.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/JIEMO-Stainless-Professional-Tweezers-Included/dp/B07CR8FXDY/
Outdoor stores stock them. Pharmacies might also.
I don't have any recommendations myself but have you tried one of those FURminators undercoat brushes , works wonders on my Maine Coon.

Thanks! Saved the link for future reference :)
So in the end I contacted The Wright Buy on Amazon (Cookology CMDW2GD Mini Portable Dishwasher Table Top with Baby Care & Fruit Wash was sold & dispatched by them) they were a pain about taking it to be recycled, but got a replacement,I have to figure out how I'm going to recycle the broken one which is an extra pain when one is disabled because after asking twice for them to take it to be recycled I gave up... It still worked, just got an error before the drying cycle so had to restart it, choose a rinse cycle & then let things air dry,the salt level was temperamental & the drying cycke giving an error was hit & miss.
I wonder if I unnecessarily got extra insurance for 3-year appliance care for a DISHWASHER from £200 to £249.99 from Protect your bubble.com, because it's a rare countertop dishwasher that doesn't need plumbing (fill the water tank at the top) I have no idea how that compares to the normal expected lifespan of a regular dishwasher... I just know if I don't have one I'm in trouble because standing up too long causes me issues.
They said there is no warranty on the replacement unfortunately.
It's kind of a grey area,so hard to tell what my rights are exactly...
Hey mate, any news? Did you manage to get it back?
Btw, I got a cheap gps tracker on amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07T7VKCC8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And so far it has been great, I can basically see where my bike is at all time, and it even sends a text message to my phone whenever the bike leaves the "virtual fence" I setup around my parking spot.
When you get your bike back I think you should look into getting one, it can run up to 5 months without needed to be recharged, just hide it somewhere in the chassis and you're good.
Another thing that I got is a super cheap (like...sup 30 pounds) alarm that goes off when the bike is shaken, hid it in the chassis again and the moment you just move the bike it goes off and it's loud as hell, already saved me once
On a side note, what the fuck is wrong with Edinburgh and the hate for motorcycles? Since spring I already found 3 burned down in parks...
If you don’t mind it not matching the existing you could probably lift it with a screwdriver and replace it with something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/152mm-thick-Square-Gully-Finish/dp/B018IJLMEC/ref=asc_df_B018IJLMEC/
Unless I’ve misunderstood there’s loads of designs around, just google for “drain cover 6 inches”.
This was my lockdown project last year. The game is called May's Journal of Time Travels.
It's a relaxing puzzle game that follows May as she travels back in time to 19th century Europe on a fantastic assignment to write a guidebook for fellow time tourists. May's Journal uses original 18-19th century art, digitally repurposed for this game.
The story is based in Edinburgh. I hope I did your great city justice :)
Here's a link to the game if you want to give it a spin. It's available on Google Play only for now.
Every socket screw I have ever come across has been a 3.5mm screw I think they are pretty standard. Does the below look right?
Thank you - didn't occur to me to search for it, thinking it would be too obscure, but thought someone on here would know. This is a rough location of where it was - posted it later when I got home from work. https://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=55.90246&mlon=-3.25995#map=18/55.90246/-3.25995
Apparently there's a pump at Waverley, platform 3, according to OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3820440917#map=19/55.95238/-3.18710&layers=C
Otherwise use the map to find the nearest bike shop to you.
Looks like there's paths on OpenStreetMap https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/55.95445/-3.36702 - remember if there's something wrong with the map or a path missing, you can leave a note or edit the map yourself.
I'm a big fan of using https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=13/55.9489/-3.2662&layers=C
I use the cycle map layer to put together different bits of trail and off road routes to form loops as I much prefer a loop to an out and back.
Some that you could try are:
Follow the Roseburn path North to where it splits with the Blackhall path. Stay on it for about 100m and then jump on route 20 to Leith Walk. Follow it to Inverleith park and then once through the park run back down the Water of Leith until it reconnects with the Roseburn path.
Start at Roseburn again and follow it until it splits with Blackhall. Follow the blackhall path until the old railway path ends at silverknowes. You then have to wiggle a bit but you can get on the north side of the constorphine trail. Follow any which ones you like but I like to end on the West side so I can get on the Constorphine railway path and follow that back towards Roseburn.
If you're fancying something on the upper end then use the blackhall path to go out to the edge of the city at Cramond and rather than doing the Dalmeny loop (which is great but someone has already recommended) go south down the river almond and nip through into cammo estate. wiggle your way through cammo and follow little country roads south. You'll get to the big glasgow road which has a nice wide footpath and then you have to cross gogar roundabout but then you can follow either the mini cycle route 8 or 9 back into town depending on your fancy.
Or depending on the spec of your laptop (how much memory) you could install Virtualbox https://www.virtualbox.org/ which would allow you to install Windows with an ISO downloaded from Microsoft. No USB required.
Plenty of YouTube videos to walk you through the process
Will you be going to uni here? My guess is you'll make tons of friends there. :) Dungeons and Dragons is super popular here, so you should be able to find people to game with pretty easily. Meetup.com is used commonly here to see things that are going on, might be able use that to find DnD. There are a couple of animal shelters here if you want to volunteer, there's a greyhound rescue that does walks at Arthur's Seat on weekends, lots of sheep on the hills... :p You'll be fine here.
Have you considered a camp bed? They fold up and out of the way and there are some very comfortable options out there. Personally I can recommend this one
Not sure if you already have this one or the other app for tickets but best I can suggest is to use this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lothianbuses.lothianbuses&hl=en_GB&gl=US
It'll give you the tracker data for the times so you know how long til the next one at each stop.
Yo, I found salvation with this set: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Seenda-Rechargeable-Compatible-Devices-Black-Black/dp/B078T4JTT5?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1
It's wireless, compact, and rechargeable, so no need to carry batteries or worry about power loss.
Only down side, not a full keyboard (no number keys) and can be awkward to type on sometimes because of size.
Loratadine in the US is dirt cheap if you need lots of it
e.g. http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature%E2%84%A2-AllerClear%C2%AE%2c-365-Tablets.product.11602332.html - 365 tabs for $9.49 (regular price $12.49)
Not OP, but here you go: https://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=55.93278&mlon=-3.24888#map=19/55.93278/-3.24888
It is data from OpenStreetMap. There is a similar one for bike parking: https://cycleparking.net/
/u/apbarratt - you should make it clear in the description that the data comes from OpenStreetMap, as per https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright
> but be warned that beyond Ratho the canal path can be in fairly poor condition if it's been raining a lot,
According to OpenStreetMap it's now asphalt to Linlithgow so should be fine. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/226764638
They've all got names - it sounds like you were on Whinny Hill.
They're pretty well marked on OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/55.9465/-3.1689
Google language exchange or check meetup, you could also volunteer if you have spare time it helped my wife when we moved. It takes a while to train your ears and learn the local expressions but you'll get there.
Good luck.

I tend to hear/read about people being self-taught quite often on programming sites/subreddits. Although on the whole I think you are right to advise caution - I have no doubt the HR would prevent an inexperienced self-taught programmer from being interviewed at most large businesses.
In this StackOverflow survey the majority of respondents this year identified as being self-taught. But I doubt that this should be given a lot of credence: Aside from being skewed into the demographic of StackOverflow users, the results seem to indicate that people use a variety of learning sources in tandem, and there does not seem to be any reason why someone who already had a degree might not also have taught themselves new languages/skills.
You could try r/photography or I have a photographer friend in Edinburgh you could try to hire.
However, you'd really be much, much better off hiring a professional.
I was just trying to be helpful, as perhaps it would be easier to make friends in Glasgow, where you now live now. If you have a reason to live and work in Glasgow and commute to Edinburgh to make friends, by all means I would suggest meetup.com or girlcrew.com to meet new folk.
1) joinery/handyman from gumtree
2) day rate of 200
3) strip wallpaper and plaster in a trench cut in the bathroom that his cowboy electrician mate installed
4) no

Good call by u/Edin_girl to look at Gumtree - there's a £20 table top one going begging in Grange among others.
Yeah, mad seeing all these new private rentals coming up on gumtree that are unusually tastefully decorated with wee folded towels on the beds.
More to be done though as they’re still charging astronomical amounts ...

Nice! Some great work done over the years by volunteers. Edinburgh is a well mapped place on OpenStreetMap, as you can see here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=13/55.9437/-3.1929
However if you see something wrong on the map, then feel free to get involved in the project by either editing the map or using the "add a note to the map" feature to alert other mappers to the problem.
My internet has been fine but for some reason my wifi is super unstable since lockdown, flips between perfect and useless every other minute.
I got a big long ethernet cable and an adaptor for my macbook and since then it's been perfect, if a little less convenient. Getting the full 110Mbps on virgin according to fast.com
I pay for the 350Mbps in Tollcross and get ~380. Never had a problem with it, think I'm 43 a month now after the initial offer ended.
Upload increased from 20 to 35 recently.
Just ran a speed test from my phone so wireless I get the same - this was 376. - Check out my Speedtest result! How fast is your internet? https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/5262366104
Me and my other half are on three and have no issues. However when we are in the main city (George street for example) it takes a couple seconds to respond https://www.speedtest.net/result/8526888618.png
You've probably got to at least try the dating apps - simple fact is that everyone else is, so there's no point in missing out on where the women are. Tinder's a lot less sleazy than you might think, and you WILL see people you know on there that you didn't expect. Just get on with it. There are other apps (Bumble is the one I'm thinking of) which have fewer people on, but they tend to be slightly more serious people, as they've made the extra effort of moving on from Tinder.
It can and will be discouraging at points, but it's a numbers game, unfortunately. 5000 swipes > 500 matches > 5 dates > 1 success.
Meetup.com has a couple of singles / socialising groups which are more explicitly about meeting people, might be worth a look. Not tried one myself.
Meadows, is great if you run after 19:30!
I run at night too (love it!) and meadows/Union canal are my favs at night.
In Union canal you need to use a torch, in meadows is not necessary.
Get something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08L8V4LXL and you'll be fine. 😊
You should look into getting one of the super quick wheel locks like below. They aren't fullproof but would've been enough to stop that opportunist in his tracks as it sounds like the bike was unlocked.
I would reccomend this one; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trekology-Camping-Mat-Sleeping-Mattress/dp/B07N4KK854/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=trekology+ul80&qid=1637413708&sr=8-3
Only used it for 3/4 nights but it's been great so far.
Have you checked that you can't cancel it and get a refund? Our event was cancelled because of Coronavirus and we got refunds (they charge up to £15 to cancel but at least you get most of your money back).
You need an east coast mainline train (LNER) they’re direct and most effective. For the love of god don’t turn up and pay on the day, unless you’re wanting to get rid of a few spare £100 notes
Not sure if I did these right but right dates, you can try them yourself.
Train. £240-£400 2 adult 2 children https://www.thetrainline.com/m/results/outbound?adults=2&children=2&from=182&inbound=after&inboundTime=2017-11-15T10%3A00%3A00%2B00%3A00&journeyType=return&outbound=after&outboundTime=2017-11-13T07%3A00%3A00%2B00%3A00&a...
Plane £30-?? Think I screwed it up, you do it or Google other sites https://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flight-search/LON-EDI/2017-11-13/2017-11-15/2adults/children-11-11#_
Gumtree has a few, if you're happy to go a bit further towards Livingston etc, or in to the Gyle.
Tiso's do some equipment hire, but I don't think they do tents. Worth asking though - they'll get asked often enough they might have an answer. But for a one-off in this decent weather, something off Gumtree might be a good idea. Eg

I've advertised it on Gumtree, but didn't get a great response for some reason (ad is here). Was hoping to cast a wider net. Going to pay for reddit ads on r/edinburgh, and perhaps targeted Facebook ads too.
Any feedback greatly appreciated.
In fairness, £40 is going it some for a second hand chair.
On Gumtree right now you could get a white leather one for £25. Or a basic fabric one that has a tear in the fabric for a fiver.
A lot of them are lock-ups, not garages, and no guarantees about security, but worth a glance there too, just to see what there is.
Since the Six Nations starts in February you should have no trouble finding bar work for February/March.
If you're looking for something a bit more substantial check Gumtree
Gumtree has a short term let section: https://www.gumtree.com/search?page=1&guess_search_category=flatshare-offered&sort=date&q=&distance=0.0001&search_category=short-term-flatshare&search_location=edinburgh&min_price=&max_price=&seller_type=&pr...
You could also place a wanted ad in the same section. I once thought I might need a short term let (between flats) and placed an ad there and got some decent offers - in the end I didn't need a short term let so did not make use of them but would have been happy with at least a couple of the ones that were offered that I went to view, one near the Art school and one in a huge flat in the West End (both were rooms in shared flats).
Most of the above will be rooms in shared places, but you also get a few whole flats to let when people want to rent them for a shorter period for whatever reason.
If you want your own place rather than a room in a shared flat, a couple of agencies also do short term lets (eg by the month) Dickins and Factotum are two that I know of, there may be more. You could also try AirBNB.
