Google play music was what I had to use for the first few weeks as my music player since it does play music from your phone. However, I've recently discovered an app called Phonograph.
I like it because it resembles the music player that came with the HTC One M8.
Look for it on your play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone&hl=en
I recommend you not to use Adoptable Storage. The card you chose is slow compared to storage chips on the phone and that could cause problems with apps. In specs sheet of most cards, write speed is not even written, which is generally like ~8-10 time slower than read speed. Always check for write speed since you are going to take photos and videos.
If you still want to use Adoptable Storage, go for Samsung ones with UHS-3 like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DOB6YUQ/ref=psdc_3015433011_t1_B01CO48M36
You can also get Evo+, Pro (for general usage, 1080p videos, without adoptable storage) or Pro+ ones but those looks like discontinued. Evo Select looks like the new series.
But you can save your photos directly to SD card even if you do not use Adoptable Storage, but still recommend to get a UHS-3 card minimum.
Also, when you first activate your phone, you should have got an offer from Google. 100GB cloud storage, use that too if you have forgotten you have activated it.
Also, beware that some sellers on Amazon are selling counterfeit cards. Always check that "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" is written while buying SD cards.
Acton Launcher 3, If you are like me and like a minimalist look and feel but wiith tons of function, AL3 doesn’t fall short. You can have widgets hidden but when you swipe up on an app it shows the widget. While this is a pro feature the base version has tons of functionality.
This is my case, $11. Nice and grippy.

I have the cables from Amazon. They rapid charge.

If you're connecting to a Windows PC and mounting your phone as storage to copy and delete files that way, stop it. This process takes a while for the Android media scanner to catch up and figure out what's going on.
If you want a quick way to transfer files, use Portal. It will let you transfer files quickly over WiFi. Use Android's built in file manager or literally any file manager app to delete files. This triggers the media scanner to update the file system storage. Personally, I use Root Explorer, but other file manager apps will work fine as well.
I'm really enjoying the Simple app as a Facebook replacement. It even has messages included, so you don't need Messenger. I used to use Swipe but the dev went AWOL and the app stopped working, so I switched.

I'm unsure where you can find that specific Claro firmware, but that CID is used for other Latin American models as well, so maybe you could flash a Telcel RUU? If you just wanted to recover it you could flash TWRP to the recovery partition while in 'download mode', then you should be able to install whatever from there.
Not 100% sure what your situation is. You can use the cable that came with your phone or you can buy a new USB type C cable. I'd recommend getting a new one.
A cable doesn't come with this charger. I'm not really aware of many chargers (either car or AC) that do come with cables, but I wouldn't use them anyway (they're often garbage). If you need a recommendation, I've been using these pretty much exclusively for a little over a year: Amazon Link
I see; the large center section gives it rigidity for first placement. But yes, you're right I've already got the screen attached internally so I will have to remove it.
I ended up purchasing one from a local phone repair shop as Witrigs was 5-10 days shipping at best (... and for $25 in shipping charges). Buying locally only cost me $5, (score!). If I mess it up I'll go get another one.
I think I'll try this tomorrow.
EDIT: I did this. I ended up cutting a line up the side of the adhesive and I DIDN'T remove the center as there didn't appear to be a good way to do so. Mine came with an antennae (or wifi?) cutout for the center of the screen. I think all of the adhesive is actually important to stabilize the screen (or it was, in my case).
I still noticed after putting it all meticulously back together that the side stuck up a little bit. I purchased a new Spigen HTC 10 Case from amazon and the lip of the case extends past where the screen meets the frame. Otherwise I'd feel uncomfortable about it peeling and subsequently cracking the screen again. I also purchased a screen protector (tempered glass from Amazon, I believe) and put that on. My only complaint is that there's a couple mm around the edges that's unprotected from the screen and the case.
First time I have ever had issues with a screen protector while using a case is with my HTC 10 and Diztronic case. I finally ordered a new case (Incipio for $6 on Amazon) and this one I can tell will be no problem at all with my screen protector. It definitely leaves a little more room around the edges than my old case which would push up the edge of the screen protector. I wonder how the Spigen compares.
I do still mostly blame my screen protector which is the ArmorSuit for not properly cutting their "case friendly" version. Actually started with the regular version and the case friendly version was no better. It cuts down the top and bottom a little but that wasn't the problem. It is the width. But then again I'd never had any issue with any other phone/case/screen protector combo and never had to but case friendly versions before, so it may very well be a poorly designed case.
Haven't used tempered glass screen protectors in awhile so have no recommendation, but I can say the Incipio + ArmorSuit definitely works and the ArmorSuit screen protector is very good aside from the case friendly version maybe being slightly too wide. With the Incipio case being so cheap it may be worth a try to see if it is more screen protector friendly than Spigen. Only have had the case for 24 hours but seems like it is made very well.
Edit: Didn't realize there were multiple Incipio cases for HTC 10. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/Incipio-Carrying-Case-HTC-Packaging/dp/B01EAQ6BIE
Button Mapper might be able to help you out with some of this, but I think it requires root. I always run rooted so I can't say I've ever tried it without root. When I had a working home button, I configured it to launch the camera on a double-tap. This also involved Tasker, which you need for some actions, but others are native to Button Mapper. For example, configuring the home button to launch the flashlight with a long press should be doable with just Button Mapper. I don't think it can reconfigure the power button though, but you can do the home button, capacitive keys, and volume buttons.

Edit: Guess linkme doesn't work here? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en
If you are still on custom ROM and rooted, give this app a try. The balanced setting is fairly great but I dont notice too much of a performance loss with battery mode. Went from 3 hours SOT to 4-5 depending on usage. 4.5 hours is pretty average for me and I use my phone. Turn on aggressive doze and see your standby time shoot up as well.
That is because you are using the stock ROM and such, no big deal you have a few options;
you could install a different SMS app. I recommend Textra but there is other ones.
you could install Contact Alert. This one works good but you are going to have to mute the default sound in the app itself.
you could install a custom ROM yourself. This option requires a little more work, but is totally an option which will allow for even more customization.
IMHO, just get Textra, you go into each conversation manually and choose customize this conversation and you are good to go.
You can use Bluetooth... Xbox360 has native support. Try this app out the full version os only a few bucks. You can use either OTG to full USB A or the Micro to USB-C. Either works to pair it up
It has Mail but not Calendar. Calendar is available on the Play Store (so is Mail if yours doesn't come preloaded with it).
I just bought this screen replacement for $25USD including shipping. ~~I would love to know where you get the battery for $12.~~ Never mind, found one locally for $20
Hmm, this also can be caused by Messenger's Snapchat-like feature. When you swipe down on main screen, camera opens. Maybe camera stuck or something due to a bug. Again on Settings > Apps > Messenger but this time Permissions, can use disable Camera. And maybe other ones that you don't use.
Also maybe uninstalling updates and installing them again could be a fix.
Also there is Messenger Beta in Play Store (on store page of Messenger, on bottom end, there is an option to become beta tester), maybe they fixed the issue. But it seems even Samsung Galaxy S7 users having a lag.
You can also try Messenger Lite or an older version of Messenger (this version seems to fix the issue on someone who has lag too, but has fewer features because it is an old update. If you want to use this, uninstall updates on your phone and install this apk. Don't update on Play Store and disable in-app auto updater in Messenger)
Flash the latest Magisk. If the Magisk app shows success on the SafetyNet check, you should be able to use Android Pay!
Specifically for the 10, rooting and/or running a custom ROM can disable the persistent BoomSound notification and enable things like the System UI tuner, Google Assistant, and Ambient Display. In general, I root all my phones to improve control over battery life, back up app data, and block ads. With Magisk, you can still pass Safetynet and use Android Pay etc.
This Magisk module alone makes root worth it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-enable-doze-google-play-services-t3608783
Assuming you had USB debugging enabled... you can plug your phone into a PC or Mac and using THIS software control the screen from there, enabling you to backup your files.
Apart from switching to another launchers as some commenters suggest (and personally, I'd agree with /u/FreydNot - go with Nova), you can always find older versions on APKMirror.
Hey there. Not sure about the charging capabilities on that thing. I bought a pack of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038L54ZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but they're only for Germany, same concept though: no voltage conversion. If you're in a country that sends 220V to the outlets you'll fry your stuff that can't handle that voltage.
I have this Mophie and a couple cheap knock off power stations and they all work fine with my 10. They may not charge as quick as my factory charger but chances are if I'm using these I can survive not charging it in 15 minutes.
These are the ones I use: https://www.amazon.com/Comply-Foam-Premium-Earphone-Tips/dp/B002OOWBWK
They slightly degrade the clarity of the highs but not by much as long as you roll them right. I use them because they really widen the soundstage and give an overall warm sound to the music. They also conform to your ear and are very comfortable. Since you have momentums which are a differnt size eartip you would want these: https://www.amazon.com/Comply-Premium-Earphone-Sennheiser-Momentum/dp/B01JAT1F5K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494733116&sr=1-1&keywords=sennheiser+momentum+comply
I went with Anker also but not the QC 3.0, I went with this more basic charger. Doesn't break the bank and I can charge my phone and my wife's Iphone 7 without having to keep two chargers.
You do have to buy another USB-C cable but it's always a good idea to have more than one cable laying around anyway.
I use these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N3RFFV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Sound quality is good for calls and music, I have small ears and the earbuds are comfortable & don't hurt me when I have them in for a longer time.
I've had this one since June. It's quick charge and has an extra usb port. https://www.amazon.com/charger-Nekteck-Charger-Adapter-Integrated/dp/B0172QQNBY/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1488948736&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+c+car+charger
I use a few different ones.
My go to over the head style are Ultrasone HFI-780s. If I don't have those I will use my Audio Technica ATH-M50. Both have a very different sound so it differs on what I am listening too.
For earbuds I usually bounce between Monoprice HFI earbuds or Tennmak Pro.
I bought it from Amazon, this one
I bought these cases and couldn't be happier (especially at the price point).
It's a 2 pack, and is a knock off of the #teamhtc cases that were sent out a couple weeks ago. It's a different brand but as far as I can tell, they are exactly the same. Without the #teamhtc of course (I have both, for reference).
They aren't slippery, and provide a medium protection. I'm really picky with cases, I don't like cases that make the phone feel huge or distract from the screen quality. This does neither. It fits like a glove too.
But honestly. You can't go too wrong for 3.50/pair.

Also here is the same case as the free ones that were sent out by HTC. (also without the #teamhtc on the back).

P.s. sorry I'm 6 days late to the thread.
Since using this case I'm pretty sure no new scratches have appeared. Unfortunately, as I got the phone when it was released and had to wait two weeks for the case*, it managed to get quite a few little nicks. Nothing life-ending, obviously, just a small annoyance if things like that annoy you.
*I could have got a different one but I had made my mind up on that one, and I'm glad I did. Great case. Only sang its praises on here yesterday, actually.
I bought these, they're amazing. Also 6-ft cord FTW. One gold and one black is what I got. Love em.

Benson approved and really high quality. I don't think anything can withstand cat teeth, braided or not. Don't leave your cables out.
Your kernel might have to support it, but I use Button Mapper from the play store. You don't need the pro version if all you want is double-tap for camera.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en
(edit: it says root is actually not required - that's good to know!)
If it has a custom recovery you could do a nandroid backup to an SD, otherwise it all depends on what you're looking to copy, most app data can't be accessed without root. Make sure backup is turned on in settings, and verify that Google photos is backing up your pictures. Other than that if you're looking to keep the layout of your home screen some custom launchers have a backup option (Nova for example has a backup function in settings) or you can take screenshots of your home screen(s) and save those to an SD/Google photos. As for SMS/MMS SMS Backup & Restore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore) is very reliable, although I'd save it to an SD card rather than cloud storage.
Seeing as this is a subreddit for a phone I'd assume most of the members use it on said phone. That being said, things like user and post flairs that use CSS still benefits mobile apps. I personally use Relay for Reddit on Android which gets my basic mod needs done like; reports and changing post flairs. I turn to desktop for literally everything else.
Yup, the actual app gets re-downloaded automatically from Google, and there is a way for developers to include a backup of app settings, but unfortunately very few actually do that. Helium or Titanium (root only as you know) would save the app settings, game progress, login, etc., so you don't have to set it all up again manually.
SMS I'm not sure about because I don't use it much. I think this is the app most people recommend: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en
I use smart screen off/on. You need to enable a setting in it which puts a clock on the screen for 1.5 seconds, then it sleeps. This lets the fingerprint still work
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luutinhit.sensorsforconver
Cerberus can disable notification pulldown on a locked phone
Also there's an option while setting passcodes where it'll ask you if the password is required to turn ON the phone, it comes before all other settings i believe. Check that option out while setting a passcode in security.

(Not compatible with HTC 10)
I guess the keyboard is alright, but it's a serious step back from HTC sense input.
Both are on the Play Store and compatible with the HTC 10:
You can do as /u/rdearth53 said and find a different texting app like Textra, or if you prefer the stock SMS app and/or want similar functionality with other messages, you can get something like Floatify. Floatify makes a lot of things possible with your notifications, one of which is waking your screen when something comes in.
