I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay here mate! Yes, summer is a crazy time to visit here in my opinion. You should really come in Spring, it's idyllic.
If you would like to read a fantastic story-driven account of the The Great Siege of 1565 then pick up Ernle Bradford's Great Siege: Malta 1565. It's epic.
Safe journeys back home o/
> I have to convince myself to never continue scrolling and reading after I read the article. The comment section is a just one big cauldron of human waste.
You got that right. Times of Malta is the most visited website in this country, which makes it a showcase of the mentality of the majority of the Maltese.
> but it isn't really all that easy to make sense of
probably because that list has so many errors, it's an embarrassment considering it comes from the official authority - do not trust those coordinates without first checking them out on Google Maps! or search using the name instead, that works - like this https://goo.gl/maps/cLjLtBLg8hs
someone made a free app listing the places to find, hopefully it does not have the same errors - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mt.org.mca.maltafreewifi
in general most public squares and gardens have free wifi, together with any location close to a Local Council office.
and then there are a number of restaurants and McD and BK of course.
I know this doesn't directly answer the question but you should try check out the OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=11/35.9110/14.3200. There's a few people on there and there's a steady stream of updates for Malta. And, if you find any missing information, you're encouraged to update the map (like a wiki)!
Your linked pdf document is down
and
What you pasted seemed to have been stripped off of the Maltese alphabet character għ, along other grammar issues. Here is my best guess
imdowba go - melted in a cup filled with hot water
~~q~~aqli - fry
~~ga~~ taghfgu - crush
saffih - drain
This recipe is found in English, albeit with variations in the exact ingredients. Look for Ghagin Grieg meaning, Greek Pasta. Seems also to be referred to as Turkish
http://acelineentertainment.com/recipes/ghagin-grieg/
or
page 31 of http://issuu.com/maltatoday/docs/gourmet_may_2012 (it's really page 33 out of 64)
P.S. This recipe uses Maltese sausage which gives it in my opinion, the strongest touch/element. So, unless you took some to your country, it won't be the real thing.
P.S.2 - You do not want to know what is inside a Maltese sausage. Trust me :)
Happy cooking
How did you manage to get it so cheap? On Amazon its more expensive with the shipping to Malta https://www.amazon.de/Intex-Explorer-Personen-Aufblasbares-Aluminium/dp/B00A7EXF4C/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1532511095&sr=1-1&keywords=explorer+k2
I got the Explorer K2. You can barely find anywhere to get them, and they are so overpriced. Even looking for a life jacket here they were charging €60 per life jacket. Was like fuck that and ordered from ebay.
Hold on, I stand to be corrected, but wouldn't it better to be accomodated in Malta rather than Gozo, considering Medical school is in Malta? Or am I missing something here? This will completely change the dynamic for your other questions.
Re speedtest - https://www.speedtest.net/result/9916519095.png - but this is local. In reality we'd need to both test versus the same server.
Thanks Joseph; I have this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K1PXYRM along with a standard Maltese 19kg Propane gas tank, and a regulator+hose (which I am told will be impossible to use as it is a modern American standard, and Malta is using tanks from the 1970's). My wok is a round bottom, hand hammered 16" I imported from China. I've spent about 300 Euros, and not a single flame has hit the pan.
I will send an actual photo of what I have in the daylight tomorrow.
There's a place called Easygas in Marsa Industrial Estate that said to bring along the actual burner and they "will see what we can do".
Mate, I am not living in Malta right now so I can't point you directly. I am in the sub because I plan to move there as an expat very soon. However, I know that you are able to use amazon of other countries.
After an extensive research in reddit I bought this product and been using it for over months now. I am very happy with it's performance. I use the machine at least 10 times a day so... :)
I studied chemistry and the way we tested for various pollutants used to require a lot of expertise. Nowadays there is equipment that simplifies things. The problem is that you need different machines to measure different levels of different pollutants. I looked up Particulate Matter meters - since you suspect that dust is your issue and if I am not mistaken Gharghur is close to quarries and you also have lots of fireworks. I found an instrument on Amazon but I cannot testify as to its reliability. Maybe you can look up reviews about it: https://www.amazon.com/Temtop-Particle-Detector-Professional-Accurate/dp/B0787Z5DK9/ref=sxin\_16\_pa\_sp\_search\_thematic\_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.b245e49f-68a4-4489-b1f9-81f4034255f5%3Aamzn1.sym.b245e49f-68a4-4489-b1f9-81f4034255f5&cv\_ct\...
Although you're right, I don't think you can place it in your lap. The pet needs to be in a carry on style bag and you place them below your legs.
I was thinking something more along the lines of custom making 20 of something like this, rig them to be temperature activated, and let them chirp when they detect the heat of the sun. Hand assembled and epoxied shut into hollowed out stones to blend in with the surroundings. Bill of Materials for each is about €3. Two problems I can think of. First of all good luck finding these to switch them off after they've served their purpose and secondly doing this is actually illegal.
There is also Junior's in San Ġwann and Toby's Toymaster at the basement level of Smart in Birkirkara.
Lego in Malta is ridiculously over priced. If you have time available it is probably still cheaper from Amazon in Germany even including the pricier shipping.
For example set LEGO 60321 City Fire Brigade Truck & Firefighter Set is €144.99 at The Model Shop and currently €69.99 + 35.99 shipping to Malta on amazon.de.
The validity of an argument is not judged on your hearsay of the opinion of a potentially unvirtuous or hypocritical person.
And the Catholic Church does not read from the bible literally. We have 2000 years of progressive reading and learning that has helped morally guide us during that time.
If you're interested in understanding how our religion differs from yours, I suggest that you pick-up this book so that you may argue and discuss from a learned position.

Here's an app I found that teaches Maltese, I haven't used it so be wary but it looks good
There are plenty of videos on Youtube that teach Maltese too if you're interested

this is interesting, tho in Maltese. It took a while to load..tho that may be my pc.
I don't have time to read it all, but if you post chunks of text here, I or another redditor will translate for you.
You can check your qr code with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mt.gov.CovPassMalta
This app is specific for Malta as they have stricter rules regarding the certificate than the other EU countries.
That very much depends on who you are and where you live.
What sea do you jump into and how does it compare is the question.
Try https://www.windy.com/ for your answers. A local who just went through as 50c summer is not a good source.
> 'Q' is a glottal stop which your English speaking ear should just treat as a silent letter (Its not, as I was taught later), but the Maltese will be happy you're not pronouncing with a hard q.
I've been blindly pronouncing 'Triq' as something similar to 'Trick' (which got a laugh from a lady at a furniture store).
I guess this is the correct pronounciation? So kind of like 2 syllables? 'Tree-uh'?
> I would not find it hard to believe if some PL think-tank groups were poring over MEPA documents to find out under whose administration the fallen buildings have been built.
I called it guys! This seems to be exactly what someone from the PL side has been up to... <em>"There was a building boom in the 60's when some very shoddy buildings were elected that now may present danger in demolishing!"</em>
Why cannot I be surprised anymore?

Is it only possible to communicate through landlines and mobile? If you and your family have smartphones/computers, and access to internet, then you can use Discord. It's completely free and usually offers much better performance and functionality than Skype. Another solution could also be Facebook's Messenger application. It is very easy to make video-calls and voice-calls and you can even use it, without having to create a Facebook account.

I originally bought this but i found that the connectors didn't stay attached and just fell right off, so i used these push fit connectors instead. Was a bit hard to get them on, but now they are firmly attached and had no issues at all.

This is the one that my teacher had said was borderline compulsory for us. It has a shit ton of functions you can use to go faster without it being cheating.

So my main process is one I took from a book called How To Write Funny, written by the founding editor of The Onion. In the book he describes how most humour is created after passing something (a news story, in the case of The Onion and BS) through what he calls 'funny filters', of which there are 11: irony, character, shock, wordplay, hyperbole, madcap (basically surreal humour), reference, parody, analogy, misplaced focus and meta humour. So what I do is that I get a real headline and see what filter(s) I can apply to it.
I don't always do this - sometimes a headline just comes naturally - but the funny filters are really useful, especially when I'm stuck.
It's also important that the article has some kind of message or opinion (most of the time). So for example - 'Narnia, Wakanda and Endor added to Covid-19 amber list' - I'm using madcap and reference to highlight how the government putting Romania and Bulgaria on the list is pointless. The thing I've always loved about satire is that it allows you to say something without saying it.
Another exercise from the book, one which I really need to do more, is to write stream-of-consciousness for half an hour straight. No thought, just pen to paper. 90% of what you write will be garbage but you occasionally find a nugget of gold that makes the slog worthwhile.
yeah i know that's why i was planning on using this gpu > https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-1650-OC-4GT/dp/B07ZTXYVMN/ref=sr_1_1?currency=EUR&dchild=1&keywords=nvidia%20gtx%201650%20low%20profile&language=en_US&qid=1597443678&sr=8-1
it's a pretty good bang for the buck and it doesn't need external PCIe connectors.
In addition to tuition I suggest you also get a good maths book. What constitutes a good maths book? Go to a bookshop which lets you sift through books, then pick a maths book open a random page and start reading. Repeat this a couple of times for each of the available math books. If understand the samples that you read that's most probably a good book.
Sadly I learnt this 'one weird trick' for my A-levels so I cannot suggest you a good book for your O's. I still treasure my Understanding Pure Mathematics. Meanwhile the The Core Course for A Level (Bostock and Chandler) suggested to me by the institution where I was studying at the time met its demise in a summer bonfire.
Oh, and don't be dissuaded from buying a book because "it does not cover the whole syllabus". I'd rather buy a usable book which covers three fourths of it and cover the remaining topics elsewhere than buy one which covers the whole syllabus but which I cannot easily make sense of.
Hey all, just sharing this link since I travel quite a bit and I like to keep track of what's going on back home in Malta. Typically I use other news aggregators like feedly or flipboard but these didn't work on Maltese news sites (probably due to the inexplicable lack of RSS feeds on most of these sites). For a while I tried to aggregate everything in Facebook but between the ads and a distinct feeling of "filter bubble" that didn't last too long...
So this site lets me keep track of the news in one place, gives me article summaries and still links back to the original content. Maybe others find it useful :)
If you are interested, you could easily begin learning some basic Maltese words and phrases at your own pace and convenience for free with simple but efficient flashcard apps like the Beginner Maltese and StartFromZero_Maltese.
As far as the basic Maltese vocabulary goes, you could easily learn on your own some common Maltese words and phrases from scratch with apps like the Beginner Maltese app.
> I wouldn't use it as my only bank, you still need a local one for your savings and loans, but is my main driver for current a/c and expense management.
Of course. I don't use Revolut as my only bank but it's very handy for small payments and overseas
> You get stats, notifications, and total instant control over your card actions and features and security. Our local banks are in the dark ages compared to this.
Not only that but many banks all over the world unfortunately. Have you seen the HSBC Android app? shudders
It's nannu not nunno. I think duolingo is alright, there's also some youtube videos on how to learn Maltese. Do not rely on google translate, that has the worst results ever. Instead use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=alldictdict.alldict.mten
It's more accurate and it gives you context in exactly how the words can be used.
To learn a language you also have to hear it. So I suggest subscribing on youtube to news channels like TVM, Onenews Malta and Xarabank though that one's inactive.
> because I'm worried it won't arrive in time.
if you pay through the nose for shipping (UPS, DHL, etc), it will arrive in time. it depends how much value you place on your girlfriend receiving the gift in time
you could also get creative and make a fake gift with an "in transit" sign inside
edit: from amazon.de it will arrive by the december 18th for €100 + €25 express shipping - https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00990Z4W6 - up to you to decice - is she worth it?
It's not a miniature, but you can buy a print from amazon for £25
yes I used a composite to vga convertor, pretty much converted any signal to the required vga resolution so what the monitor supports is not an issue (like this]
I used to use it to connect an old composite tv tuner / media box to a CRT monitor and then a TFT, pretty much looked like a normal CRT TV to me :) THough I don't know the effects for retro-gaming
