I know there has been a lot of these posts recently but I hadn't seen anyone actually do a simple matte black one. The total cost was 14 dollars (https://www.amazon.com/Black-Matte-Vinyl-Release-3MIL-VViViD8/dp/B07PRNGMK9/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8) and took about 1 to 1.5 hours from start to finish.
I have a 2014 without powered seats as well, and I had the exact same problem as you after about a year of ownership. Developed some pretty intense lower back pain that wouldn't go away (I have a long commute every day).
I bought this (Amazon - Lumbar Support Pillow). Solved my problem completely. Pain went away and didn't come back.
Best of luck!
I used Noico 80 mil.
Sound from my catback exhaust is reduced in the cabin. I was surprised to see how thin the material and lack of insulation in the trunk.
I will definitely soundproof the doors as well when I upgrade my speakers
According to consumer reports Mazda is more reliable than Toyota. http://www.consumerreports.org/cars/which-car-brands-make-the-best-vehicles/
True delta can give you reliability for specific models and specific years. I am a member I can look up specific model years if you want.
The other thing you should realize is the mazda 3 is incredibly fun to drive. It's been on the car and driver ten best list for three years in a row. My next car will be a mazda 3 because it's the best of both worlds, affordable economy car, yet super fun to drive. The mazda 3 satisfies the super ego and the id. DO IT!!!

I wash my car once a month usually. Since I have underground parking with no access to a hose, I've been using this waterless car wash off amazon. I think it has wax built in but the results have been amazing everytime and super easy to use. Just spray on and wipe off. I'm sure people who are super into detailing prob won't use this but I'm a big fan of it.

its fairly simple shouldn’t take more than 40 mins. I attached a list of tools that make the job way easier. It includes extra screws incase you break some off when removing them as well as a tool to remove them. Tool& Screw Set 14$
I was like you, against vent mounts. I thought about all the disadvantages: it would block the AC flow, scratch the vents, the magnet might not be powerful enough, the need to glue a metal plate to the phone, etc.
I then decided to go against my previous decision after trying them all and get a vent mount and I must say, I'll never go back.
This thing is:
-made of hard silicon-rubber so it doesn't scratch your vents
-cheap, it's less than 5 bucks compared to 15-30 bucks for a bulky windshield mount.
-only blocks half the vent, I still get enough airflow in the summer.
-sits high enough that I can easily glance over.
-looks slick as fuck and super minimal.
-will not leave glue residue like the dash mounts do and will not fall off after 6 months if you live in a hot climate.
-the magnet is strong that even the biggest pothole won't affect it.
-no need to glue anything, no suction cups, no mount/unmount after every use
-the magnetic plate that you attach to your phone is so slim yet so powerful that you can just put it under your phone case and it will be invisible but still hold the phone strong.
-last but not least, this requires absolutely no effort to mount/unmount your phone.

Although warning you have to cut two holes in the carpet to mount it. So you're protecting it by cutting holes in it which is an oxymoron.
You can also buy some of those molded rubber floor mats.
Nvm, it was from Amazon! I'm forgetful at times haha. Link: Xingge 2pcs White LED Daytime Running Lights Driving Lamp DRL for Mazda 3 2014-2016 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G5DBICO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_4afCzbH31B7AE
Unfortionately, it doesn't seem to be on Amazon any more, but I'm sure Ebay would have it, or one very similar
And for instructions, the little black fog light housings clip in and can be carefully pulled out with those plastic interior trim tools so that the paint around it doesn't scratch. The new ones pop in, but they don't quite fit perfectly if you have fog lights, due to the boxes on the back holding the led guts.
The wiring was pretty straight foward too- I spliced the positive into the 10A "METER" fuse, so that the lights act as drls, or turn on when the dash does. I remember that I might have had to add more length of the wiring between the two actual lights though.
Soz that this was a long comment but hope it helped! 😋
1) It took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I’ve never done anything like this before. The hardest part was either getting the larger piece out, or wrapping the smaller piece.
2) I got the wrap (and a heat gun) on Amazon. This is it!

I have a 2017, which also has a slow USB port. I currently use a "Fast-Charge USB Adapter" and it works pretty well. It blocks off the data transfer system, which didn't do anything with my LG phone, and seems to charge at a faster 2.4v. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't sell this model anymore, but there are other companies selling similar adapters. Plugable might be a good one.

Gotta buy some Angel eyes / Halos for your 3 Like these, and follow some guides on installing them. You have to open up the headlights though which is a bit of a pain since they are glued shut.
(tagging /u/AdolphFTW since they asked as well) Not OP, but I put a blue strip in my 2021 Hatch. These have a flat edge that sticks out so you can just tuck it into the gaps in the vehicle trim, and they're USB so I plug them into the USB in the center console. Low power, they're on when the car is on and off when it's off. They're also very lowkey during the day, still visible but they don't really stand out at all. I can try and take some pics when I'm off work.

Overall this set gets a B grade from me; good brightness, basic features, excellent adhesive or comes with mounting screws which I never used. You can’t disconnect any wires to make running them easier and the unit cycles through the colors on startup every time no matter what you do (less than a second).
I plan to upgrade these to a better set, possibly with EL wire / fiber, once I get bored and need the project. For now these work plenty fine.
I don't have those specific ones, but I do have some storage cups from Amazon in my car, so I will speak to those.
The rubber mat in the bottom sticks well to the bottom of the cup, the fitment is solid, and ita infinitely more useful than just a handle.
What I don't like about it is that they have a tendency to come out when pulling the door shut, and they leave a little indent on the leather on the door.
At the end of the day, I still recommend them to have that little bit of extra storage in a car that otherwise has very little storage
That or you can buy it off the Vivid website but Amazon sells it for the same price and offers prime shipping
I got a 2017 Mazda3 Grand Touring with 56k miles last June for about $16,000. It was in the dealer's inventory for less than 1 day, officially, before I put an offer on it. I wasn't even the first offer, but that guy was a recent college grad with shit credit, lol. I know there were a couple other redditors looking at this particular car because of its rare color and trim combo (soul red, parchment leather, 6-speed manual, GT). After owning it for a year and seeing other posts about pricing, I think my car was a huge steal.
I have not had any mechanical issues with the car yet, nor would I expect them at this point in its life. The large number of miles on it from the previous owner seem to have been highway, since my average overall MPG is fairly high (33). Because of the pandemic restrictions, I have done very little driving myself and the last oil change was in August 2020. I think the only typical maintenance I've done is replace the wipers. My previous 2005 Mazada3 was also mechanically sound and very reliable over the course of 8-9 years, though I know you asked only about recent Mazdas.
Ironically, regarding your question about CP/AA, I just spent this past weekend swapping out my stock USB ports for the Android Auto parts. It was a huge pain in the ass to do it myself, but worth saving the $550 dealer fee for it. $170 for the parts on Amazon and about 4-5 hours of my labor to get it installed. It will allow both Carplay and Android Auto, depending on your device.
Is this what you’re referring to? Thanks for the help!

Yeah, you went to a store where they only sold high-end expensive stuff, so of course the options were all expensive. There's a LOT more bike racks on the market than the 2 most expensive makers in the world, Yakima and Thule. The one I have isn't nearly as fancy, but it's simple, cheap, and works fine.
Here's the rack I have. It's $72.17 today on Amazon.
This is just one of those cheap slip-on covers. They have much better real leather sew-on covers on Amazon that look exactly like factory covers. Here's an example
They are called Signal boosters if you are in an area that has High crime get a Faraday case.
Amazon has them I bought these.
When I got my 3 I drove it so much for fun I hurt my back and neck quite a bit and it took months and a lot of PT, massage, and stretching to recover. I was in marginal condition before obviously, but I was at least able to manage existence without pain.
The main issue of course was the stupid fscking headrest. I found this back support from Amazon made all the difference https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H5D3LAA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hey I actually can answer this, I just bought a 2019 Hatchback as well and recently bought this hammock for the back seat. It fits pretty perfectly. Thankfully it is also fairly low price and high quality that my puppy isn't really able to do any damage to it.
I really like my air vent mounts by Spigen
Get a stitched leather wheel cover. There are real leather one, but you can also get faux leather ones for cheap.
I got this one from Amazon for $8. It took me about 1.5 hours to stitch it on and it looks and feels amazing. It's holding up really well, still looks good after 2.5 years in Texas heat.
You definitely need a 'high-endurance' card. I always use SanDisk cards. This is the one I have. You can go with a smaller card. I think a 128GB card in my A119 got me about 5 or 6 hours.

Notably absent: Mazda, and Toyota.
Mazda is committed, Toyota is not. (Edit, looks like Toyota is on the list!)
I would like to see a list of which vehicles don't have CarPlay... at least from the manufacturers who have committed to supporting it.
Lots of manufacturers are all in, like you mentioned, but there are some which are a hodge-podge. Like Acura only has two models, whereas Honda looks like they're all in. Dodge is the same.
Thank you for your reply. What would you recommend is the best way to get it inspected. I am avoiding cars with accidents but it is hard to find mazdas in my price range without an accident.
In a year or year and half, I hope to drive it across the country one way. My fear is that it will break down along the way.
There is this car that has has an accident "Involving right front impact With another motor vehicle Right front primarily damaged"
I got him down to 5800. Do you think this would be a serious issue that would cause problems 1-3 years down the road.
1000-1500$ is a year id more than Ok for maintenance, I just dont want to be throwing that money away for stupid reasons like for a car that is a dud.
He has told me he replaced two new front tires, new brake, and new front beam bulb, new spark plugs + oxygen sensor and something with power steering.
Would this indicate there is something seriously wrong with the car?
He tells me that the carfax did not report the accident until 7/2013 when he bought the car in early 2013 so he has had the car for a year. He tells me he has just been driving to and from college.
I mean I do have about 16k in savings that can be allocated to cars but Id rather spend as little as I can on a mazda 3 while retaining something that wont blow up.
The plastic cowel above the rearview mirror. It splits in half pulling left/right. (after you unclip the plastic clips)

Nothing else in the category really compares to the ride quality and interior of the 3. Mazda has made something really special.
Also, one of my friends installed this in their 3rd gen and it works like a charm. Spec sheet shows it's also compatible with the 4th gen. Something to consider!
I got it from Amazon (free prime shipping lmao)

If you're down to 4/32" or so then it's probably time to think about replacement.
New tires could very well be the best way forward. They'll help improve steering, acceleration and braking, MPG, everything, really. Cheaper than getting a new car.
What are you running right now and does it get very cold or snow where you live?
You might but I would not suggest it.
I have this and just ran the power through the side of my car to the battery. Near the foot well you have a small firewire hole you can snip off, looks like a rubber nipple. Also you have a blue wire that you will have to connect to I think to the Informant head unit to tell it to turn off when the car is off.
I have to have this in my car,

It allows me to have an amp/sub in my car it's a plug and play.
I have the rockford fosgate subwoofer and amp Combo its a 1200watt unit but I cannot find it aywhere.
I had a 2016 Mazda3 Hatchback so you on luck! I installed the Govee Footwell Lighting to the Dome Lights. Everytime you open the door the lights would turn on. I also changed ALL interior lights to LED.
Regarding the headlights I changed them to LED which made a huge improvement. Just know that you will lose your Daylight Driving Lights but you can install a resistor to fix that.
Here are the parts I recommend.
Thanks!
Headlights (high and low beams)
With some coupons at the time I purchased all 6 lights were only $85. DRLs don't work at the moment, but will after I add a resistor. Everything else works as expected, auto on/off.
I haven’t had to use anything yet, but when I do I will probably try this or the similar products from Sonax or others.

Mazda only has Bass/Treble EQ so not much help
I just did mine a couple hours ago at like 1am lol. Here's what I bought. I love them, I have the same set on my Cadillac
Thanks! I’m really happy with how it looks and the dash cam. Solid video quality and it met my only real requirement which is a super capacitor instead of a battery so it’ll withstand temps better
For my dash cam, I used a mini fuse sized add-a-fuse. I know our cards use micro, but like you said it won't fit down in there. Get yourself a fuse that is rated the same and is mini sized for slot your tapping into. Then just make sure the add-a-fuse is secure in both sides of the terminal.
Only downside is the radar detector will always be on. If you want to fix that so it doesn't kill your battery, something like this should work. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07N4HJCD5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_X9WF8ND421MQY7WYMEQ0 I should note that I personally have not bought that board, since my dash cam setup already had that in the 12-5v adapter
No, you can get LED replacement bulbs for the halogens. Fog lights aren't any brighter than your low beams. It's the same bulb, actually. You won't be blinding anybody. Just make sure they're angled correctly. I have yellow bulbs in my fogs for aesthetics but I'll probably switch to white for more light once they burn out.
I just ordered these a couple days ago for a white light that isn't as bright as LEDs. I got a set for my high beams as well. headlights
You need the $~150 Retrofit Kit if you want to do it yourself. You will have to take apart most of the center console below the A/C unit which can be a little cumbersome.
Otherwise you can pay the dealership to install it and that's $~450.
For anyone wanting a better idea of what's going on with the bow tie downs, here is an Amazon link to something similar to what I'm using.

If it's a small hole (like a puncture from a nail or a screw) that's not on the sidewall, you can easily DIY it with a cheap repair kit from Amazon or from Walmart. If the hole is bigger than that, you'll need to get it replaced.
Replacing one tire is acceptable, replacing two is preferred so the wear and balance of the care are even. Suppose this were the right front tire, if you were to get two tires, you would also replace the right left (essentially as u/Recon_Figure is advising). If you decide to only replace the one tire, make sure it's the same general type (example: don't put one winter tire alongside 3 summer tires).
Tire alignment.....will depend. Some places say you should do it, others say it's unnecessary. I think it will depend on what the mechanic says, as well as your own budget and peace of mind.

I've been using these
I found with the cheap W5W LEDs on eBay they would have some metal and short out or be awkward to get thin wires to connect properly, also with these they're not sensitive to polarity so can be put in either orientation and will work.
Yup, they’re 194 T10 bulbs. I got these and they should also work as your license plate and reverse lights too

those already exist on amazon if you search for "wireless carplay". There are dongles that allow you to connect wirelessly to most infotainment systems. The issue is that for Android Auto it's a lot more limited and no dongle like that currently exists, only wired. If you want wireless carplay you can do that immediately.

Not sure how you feel about buying it "used", but Ive had only good experiences on Amazon Warehouse Deals. The only issue I see is that most other sites have the part listed for $70 for just the igniter (the part in the picture), so paying OEM price may be your only option, unless you want to look into going aftermarket and doing some more work.
I got mine off Amazon, as well as the trim kit.

The above does not allow wheel controls and is a single din(vs double din for a taller headunit) respectively.
Here's my best suggestion: Take your passenger seat out, run it in through the trunk tail first. A 3 definitely has the interior length to do it, and since you're going alone you don't need the passengers seat.
As for scratching it with straps: Buy some pipe insulation. It's closed-cell foam tubing that can wrap around the straps and deform around the car. Use it under the board and on the straps where they contact the body panels. This will work great if you're only doing a week, but is in no way a long term solution. Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ft-Polyethylene-Pipe-Insulation-Wall/dp/B007R7VNAA
I'm not sure the exact size of the hex bolt, but I'd opt for a hex socket of a key: something like this for example: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-3-8-in-Drive-Metric-Hex-Bit-Socket-Set-7-Piece-H3DMM7PCHBSSR/203559457
Also it's useful to have a wire brush and some brake cleaner spray on hand so you can clean up the brackets and shit before putting back together.
Depending on how much shipping is from rockauto amazon may be cheaper for this kit too: https://www.amazon.com/Autospecialty-KOE126-1-Click-Replacement-Brake/dp/B00HIVHWTQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500390135&sr=8-1&keywords=POWER+STOP+KOE126
I just hardwired a dashcam in my Mz3, it's SUPER easy.
All you need is a fuse tap from amazon that comes with extra fuses. Like this
What you do is 1. remove the interior kick panel to get good access to the fuse box
connect the cable to the dash cam and run it across the headboard above the windshield, and then push it across and down the A pillar.
put the wire in the fuse tap and crimp it. add TWO 10A, 15A, whatever in the fuse tap and plug it into #9 for ACC and #11 for BAT (constant) power
tidy up and test camera
Took me about 30 mins to do all this, and you get the satisfaction of learning more about how your car works!
All 4 genuine Mazda All-Weather mats on amazon US are 80 bucks and look quite nice
Perfect! Haha that's where I got mine from.
Interior, white, leds. Haven't had any issues with them and they're running great for over a year. I think you may need 2 sets, plus whatever bulbs the vanity mirrors take if you want to do them too: SiriusLED Extremely Bright 400 Lumens 3020 Chipset Canbus Error Free LED Bulbs for Interior Car Lights License Plate Dome Map Door Courtesy 1.25” 31MM Festoon DE3175 6428 Xenon White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AHVND32?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
As for the footwell lighting, look up Aura OPT7 lighting kit and it should pop up in Amazon. It has like 11 colors and other color effects. Haven't had any issues with mine yet either and it can be wired through the fuses or it can be USB plug-in
Check out those if you want to, it'll give you a starting point
Edit: dome lights for gen 3, footwell lights would be universal
You can definitely get them cheaper. I got mine replaced a few months ago at a local shop for $230. They were able to salvage my existing rotors, so that was just for the pads themselves and labor. Mazda quoted me about the same as you for the job.
These are the brake pads they used on my car (same year as yours, also Mexico made). They are way cheaper on Amazon than what I paid for them from the shop ($100), so if you know a shop that will install parts you purchase yourself you can save money that way.
3D MAXpider. I bought the complete set in black on Amazon for $118. They fit very well. I took out the OEM carpet mats in the front seats per the instructions. For the rear sets, one is supposed to also remove the carpet mats but the MAXpider mat doesn't extend as far underneath the front seats as I would like. The MAXpider fits just fine on top of the carpet mats in the rear, so I left them. Here's the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IBOMS1Q/
I've also ordered the cargo liner for $82, that arrives tomorrow. I chose it over other brands because it folds when needed.
I intend to car camp and picked up https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W67PJ4M which seems to have jumped in price, but thats camping equipment these days.
Mmm, that does make it pretty useless on a longer trip. I did read about an app that gives you the same functionality, but haven't tried it yet. I'll see if I can find the link again.
I have the same exact issues right now with my 2010 i @ 120k miles.
I've noticed that the rough idling and vibration goes away after hitting a few bumps while going at a slow speed.
I replaced the spark plugs about a year ago. Did nothing to the idling and shaking issues. I just replaced the passenger side motor mount (rubber seal was broken) about a month ago... It seemed to have helped for a few days, but now the shaking is worse. I torqued the mount down to the recommended values and added thread locker, so i don't think this is due to user error. However, I figure I'd just buy replacement mounts for the transmission and change those out too ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F81HK92/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I don't know if they will help out though.
My next steps are to clean the throttle body - I know it hasn't ever been cleaned. I'll try to remember to post here if it seems to have helped me.
P.S. - may be completely unrelated, but another thing I have noticed is that my O2 sensor sometimes malfunctions and gives me a P0138 code. It's been happening for about a year now, and it only does it a few times a month at most.
I have an older version of this one

Thanks! And they’re teal with clear coat on top. I really like how they turned out
updated link (should be cheaper at a local auto shop if you can find it)
I did! I actually used carbon fiber wrap on them and then replaced it with forged carbon fiber. Not sure how I feel about the forged carbon fiber yet though...

There's 2 common alternatives.
The cheaper one is a tow hook mount. This mounts the plate more to the side. (https://www.amazon.com/Bumper-License-Bracket-Holder-Mazda3/dp/B07KF5CF6T)
The more expensive one is a mount that fits under the grill. (https://www.mazda3revolution.com/threads/m3-2019-front-license-plate-relocation.236216/)
Maybe just put a cover over it? I use this one https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07FL7BHPR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UjbsFb6F4H3QB You get the silicone and the leather one. Actually, sound a little inappropriate written out, but they work well for me

Thanks! It was damn hard by myself, struggled for like 45 minutes and got nowhere. But once my roommate held the other side I was done in half an hour

Don't know why they're talking about the 'power for the mirror being inside the door'... Of course it's inside the door -- then it goes into the mirror motors to actuate it (and to the defrost circuit). If the glass was hanging by a wire, it stands to reason the only reason a wire goes to the glass itself is for a defrost circuit.
I'd measure for heat by setting defrost, putting a Post-It on the glass, and pointing an infrared temp gun at it. Or, like /u/ViewOfAKind said, you might even be able to feel it heating with the back of your hand (confirm on other side).
Got that pic they showed you? If you take off the door trim, I think the plug running into the mirror will have 7 wires (for power, heated, blinker mirrors).
Edit: another Redditor made an excellent point about not using canned air to frost the mirror, for risk of shocking the glass.
I have a gen 3 and I plug my dashcam into one of the USB ports in the center console. I use one of these adaptors and it makes it so the camera is only on and using power when the car is on. Not sure if the gen 4 has the same type of USB port though.

I got this one from Amazon Because of the usb end, and the module is small enough that it doesn't interfere with the a pillar trim panel snapping back into place.
Yes. You can buy the OEM hardware on Amazon. I think it’s like $140. The firmware is available on one of the Mazda forums if you look up this subject along with step by step instructions. I did this to my wife’s 2014. It’s not hard at all.
Edit: price went up
I used this one from Amazon, and a Wrap Kit. Cost me around $30 total, and I still have a a lot of wrap left over.
