As someone who played all three routes of pathologic classic hd before going into pathologic 2, I really recommend playing it first! In the order of the bachelor, haruspex and then changeling. It’s quite a project, as it personally took me over an 130 hours (I’m a slow player), but I think it’s worth it.
I think I appreciate pathologic 2 now more than I would have if I went into it without playing the first beforehand, having experienced the first game fully for myself. P1 is also a wonderful game by itself, and very different from P2. But you can indeed play them in any order or not play P1 at all an still enjoy P2. I just really love and recommend the first game. It’s a wonderful experience seeing how everything has been “upgraded” rather than going back and seeing how everything used to be.
EDIT: also, it’s on sale for like a dollar right now! how can you resist.
It was recorded, but it's in Russian and without subtitles, unfortunately.
It was uploaded to Ice-Pick Lodge's VK page. I'm not sure if it can be viewed without an account though.
I think this one is the best I know of. It's hosted somewhere else, but I can't remember where.
Anyway, you can play the game without the need for a walktrough. Even if you miss a quest or two, that shouldn't ruin your ending. (Although those of the last few days might be mandatory. Fortunately they're all given by the same person.)
Oh, and remember to read your letters by pressing L.
I already answered for the OP, but again for people who access this thread via search engines:
> does anyone know where the save files are located? i want to buy the game on steam and move the saves over there but i don't know how.
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Pathologic_2#Game_data
Search for the folder 505230
on your system if you don't have a genuine copy.
That sounds like at least enough info to suggest it's worth checking further into! What graphics card do you have? Depending on your hardware, you might be able to check the GPU temp from Windows Task Manager, but if not, you might be able to check it with something like Open Hardware Monitor ( https://openhardwaremonitor.org/ ). See if you can get a temp reading for your GPU and compare it against the recommended temps for your particular hardware.
That was before the hbomberguy and mandalore videos.
The game sold decently well after that, the studio is doing alright.
They started working on the bachelor route it in 2020
Early this year they announced it wouldn't be released in 2021 in a podcast or something. Sorry i can't find a source though, it was in russian.
First of all, yes, try starting a new game, see if/how things change; when you start a new game a new profile will be created and the saves from your different playthroughs will be kept separate, as you can see from the "load game" screen in the main menu.
Looking at your specs, I never used your gpu, but I think it should be able to at least get 30-40 fps with some settings tweaking(I used to run Pathologic 2 on a 960m and I was able to stay between 30 and 50 fps most of the time); your cpu is quite old however, and I think it was considered pretty weak to begin with(not sure though)? This game doesn't seem to be very heavy on the cpu, but you might wanna try using software like MSI Afterburner(it's the one I'm using) to monitor its performance in the game.
I think your memory(ram and hdd) might be a problem: I don't think 8 GB of RAM is enough for this game, as you can see from the screenshots I linked in my previous post(I was running only the game, steam and afterburner, which shouldn't impact your performance at all). It might use less on lower settings, but if you keep in mind that windows usually reserves a portion of memory for itself the game is probably relying on the paging file to run(I might be wrong since I can't check your system), and if you only have an hdd that can be used for the paging file, well, it can suck.
Regarding your hdd, unfortunately these days many games basically require an ssd to get fast/decent loading times, and while it's possible that Ice Pick Lodge might manage to reduce them in the future, I would suggest looking for a good deal on a ssd during black friday(and more importantly, more ram, 16 GB is becoming the new standard).
That said, you should carefully examine your pc's performance(especially your cpu and ram usage if my suspicions are correct) and decide what to do accordingly.
>It seems some people believe him to be distanced from the studio now that he teaches
Yeah idk where that's coming from, according to this blog post from July last year he's at work writing the Bachelor's scenario for Pathologic 2.
God this fucking sucks. Just yesterday I wrote a glowing Steam review for the game, figured it's the least I could do to support the studio to hopefully see that scenario in the near future...
The Bachelor is being worked on. This post from July confirms it:
