I use these curtains in my bedroom and they work perfectly. I just got some adhesive hooks so it can be as close to the wall as possible and now it's pitch black in my room.
I believe this may be a lesson that can be taken from the Hot Fuzz ( Netflix ) playbook. While wanting to stop all the crime, rule breaking, and vandalism is noble and ethical, sometimes the local culture just isn't going to support that.
Like /u/Warneral said, adjust your approach to match the equipment you are authorized and trained to carry. If you aren't armed, don't approach situations where the subject is likely to be. Bringing a knife to a gun fight is a stupid idea, and bringing nothing at all is downright suicidal.
Be visible, be proactive when and where appropriate. Initiate consensual contact when safe to do so, checking on people that may be having medical issues, or maintaining eyes on a crime in progress while you are reporting it.
On the note of reporting, maybe it's just me but if your site SOP is to report to a responsible WM employee and they refuse to give you a direct line of contact, or fail to answer, and you've kicked it up the chain in the appropriate channels, and you weren't specifically told you have to walk inside and track someone down personally, then fuck it, CYA by calling the number and letting it ring as many times as it takes for the phone to get answered or the situation to resolve itself. If you witness a felony in progress, then hang up and call 911, observe and report, and document the deviation from SOP. But I wouldn't bother going on a fucking fishing expedition to find anyone. Every minute you spend in the store is another minute away from your assigned post and job responsibilities.
I'd have to say that amount of time is pretty normal. Definitely stay on top of them so your paperwork doesn't get lost in a pile on someones desk. Be polite and not annoying but a phone call to touch base mid week wouldn't be a bad idea. They are likely waiting on confirmation of your card status, and any company background check data to be returned. I'd expect if that passes to do a drug screen and some more waiting for them to get that back as well.
Stay away from Craigslist. It just isn't worth it.
A federal resume is like a civilian resume, except you are expounding upon everything you’ve done. As opposed to just writing you were a security guard at AUS from 2009-2019, you put
“Allied Universal: Security Guard Aug 1 2009-June 1 2019:”
And then you go in depth on your job duties and all that. You also go in depth on everything really, achievements, your summary of everything on your resume, etc.
I learned how to write mine through the transition courses when I was getting out of the Army but these 2 sites seem to be pretty good at explaining how to write one and there’s plenty of examples on google images.
https://gogovernment.org/writing-your-federal-resume/
https://zety.com/blog/federal-resume-example
Also, definitely get to writing a federal resume and uploading it and taking your regular resume off of USA Jobs. You might get some luck with some employers if you do apply for anything with one but most of time, most employers won’t accept it. Largely because a lot of employers use software to check all the resumes and then send off the best ones to employers.
Also if you are going to apply to, let’s say, a job at fort bliss as a guard, read everything on the job posting. Qualifications, requirements, etc. tailor your federal resume to that job posting with whatever experience you have.
If the job posting says they do access control at fort bliss, then put somewhere on your resume that you did access control as opposed to “check identification badges” or whatever. If the posting says that you’re required to know how to direct traffic or whatever, put somewhere on your resume that you’ve done traffic control or something.
So about a week ago My field supervisor came to my site and informed me that I would now need to download Valiant Mobile On my personal cell phone. This app would allow me to clock in-and-out for my shift. I later discovered that I have to turn on my location in order to be able to clock in-and-out.
So now my question is can an employer force me to install an application on my personal cell phone that tracks my location?
My other question is can an employer force me to have a smartphone?
If I decided to switch back to a non smartphone like a flip phone that doesn't have GPS Or access to the Google Play Store or Apple store would that be an issue? I did read the post orders for my site and it states "Must working Cell phone" it doesn't specify what type of cell phone.
Prior to my employer asking the guardS to download this application. We were calling the call center to clock in-and-out that last for 2 years.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend for all healthcare security, they work great on blades and biters.
Just yesterday I dragged/carried a 250lbs methhead(he swears someone made him smoke it, he usually smokes crack, he has standards) that the screaming "give me some fucking food!" who then urinated in the middle of the parking lot and tried to throw a large rock at me and my co-worker before you drew tasers.
PD gave him some juice and crackers and sent him on his way, an hour later he's back as a psych hold. Then today thought we stole his shoes(came in without any) and threatened to hit us with a rock so he could go to jail for 3 hots and a cot, calling us heartless for no magically making shoes appear.
It was a good day.
Here are some resources to hopefully help you out:
http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=security&l=Los+Angeles%2C+CA
The new CA BSIS BreEZe system will allow you to verify licenses by type. Searching both Private Patrol Operator and Proprietary Private Security Employer and then selecting the appropriate cities should return you a list of currently licensed firms in your area. Just testing the Private Patrol Search for LA returned over 300 results for companies starting with A-C, so there are a LOT in your area. Exponentially more if you start looking at proprietary companies as well.
https://www.breeze.ca.gov/datamart/selLicType.do?type=city
You can’t just go accusing people, there’s steps in loss prevention that you have to follow before making an arrest. In terms of actual company/site policy though I’d strongly suggest you get in writing how they expect alleged thefts to be deal with. If you’re uniformed I would image they just want you to be a visual deterrent
At first I was mostly getting Dickies, but after a while I noticed mine were not lasting after just few washes. I found these Red Kap Men's Industrial Cargo Pant on amazon, about $24 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDNCOL2/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I thought they held up well. Yeah after a few months the black pants will fade if your outside all day. For the price there not bad. Better than Dickies. Good for work.
In MN most companies will hire then train you, so there is no need to take anything in advance. There isn't a license in MN per-se, just required annual training if you work for a contract company. In-house private security doesn't have that requirement but most do some type of annual training.
Background will change depending on the type of employment. Mall or contract security at someplace like a factory are typically warm-body sites and background will be just making sure you aren't a felon or have violent misdemeanor convictions. Hospitals, critical infrastructure (Mining or port work) or other in house will be more in-depth.
As far as applying, every place is different. Search http://www.indeed.com will give you a start on how applications work
Shifts are the same way. Every site and company does it a bit different based on needs. Might be 8 hour, 10 hour or 12 hour shifts. Some places rotate shifts, others will give you a set schedule of days and shifts.
If you have no experience, and are under 21, you will probably have to start out doing some type of contract work for one of the bigger security companies. There may be smaller owned companies in that area as well as an option. 6 months to a year and you would have enough experience to apply for in-house work. Really depends on needs. If you have a degree, military service or some prior experience with firearms, you may have an option to start at an armed site, or higher level positions.
Pay range is wildly variable. Entry level will be around minimum wage or maybe a dollar more. $11-14 for most sites. Healthcare security will move you up a couple bucks. Benefits at an in house position will be a huge bonus over the more entry level contract jobs.
Hopefully that gets you in the right direction. Let me know if you have any more questions. I am sure others will chime in as well.
It's not a legal thing, it's a G4S rule.
Here's a job posting. Look at the requirements. I don't have an associate's in a useless major, or combat arms in the military, or prior LEO. So with all my qualifications, including IAHSS, I can't work that job.
But if I was firefighter, I could.
http://www.indeed.com/viewjob?from=appsharedroid&jk=b09703bf5990cac5
Yeah if you feel you may be involved in any security work where hazmat is a concern, IS-5a is nice for sure. And on iOS and Android the ERG app is virtually a must have as well imo. Most people I know in fire keep it handy on their cell, at least those with modern cellphones lol.
I know that night shifts will screw this up but try not to eat after 6pm (or about 4 hours before bed) drink only water or black tea/coffee, and for good filling meals add some quinoa to that box, with less bbq sauce
Also for sauces it's not great for you but ranch has surprisingly low sugar, I bought some of this ranch at Target as well as a buffalo one, and they're really good on anything
After two hours of working, you would be able to afford this:
https://www.amazon.com/Safariland-1130048-Insight-Procyon-Concealment/dp/B000U3X4JG/
After another hour of working, you could afford the proper belt attachment:
The attitude you should have as a public facing armed security officer is: "Every person I meet has a gun. My gun, should they get to it."
You don't get the luxury of choosing when shit hits the fan. Cannabis security is one of the most dangerous jobs you can take in the field.
You're more interested in the appearance of being armed than the responsibility of being armed. If you feel that you need to work your way up to having gear that won't get you or someone else killed, you're not ready to be in that position.
Here are two options

Pouch is here, I had the same one on my vest for a while as a small trauma pouch and to hold my cellphone before I moved on to a combination of two other pouches.
Ah man, I'm sorry. I guess that shouldn't be surprising with where you live, but it still seems so weird to me. 😂
It's -3°C (27°F) right now where I am, which is unusually warm for this time of year. Heck, the other morning it was -18°C (0°F) when I was outside chatting with a coworker about how it's getting close to needing to wear a jacket to work. It can hit -40°C in the winter here though, so I'm more accustomed to it.
Hmm. I would keep a pair or two of magic mitts on you for when it gets colder. Maybe look at getting some thermal shits to wear under your uniform as well. If you are allowed to wear body armor, that will keep you fairly warm too. Make sure your socks can wick away moisture from your feet too.
These also shouldn't get you overly warm in higher temperatures either. I personally don't usually wear anything for winter until it get's below -20°C (-4°F), but I wear a thermal shirt under my concealable carrier even when it's over 32°C (90°F) in summer.
you need a brighter flashlight i recommend https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-75613-Flashlight/dp/B00396FCBY/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/140-4162111-4018617?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00396FCBY&pd_rd_r=9279f5f4-d1a1-4d81-816f-f5397efbce95&pd_rd_w=l4hNF&pd_rd_wg=DRAtg&pf_rd_p=ce6c479b-ef53-49a6-845b-bbbf35c28dd3&pf_rd_r=9MRFD1Y2FKFGR98GNX2M&psc=1&refRID=9MRFD1Y2FKFGR98GNX2M this light will make daylight out of those hallways and then some i got the all black one but they have colored ones if thats your thing this flashlight is worth the price
I recommend Getting to Yes as a companion to Verbal Judo. *Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreements Without Giving In is aimed more at business, but there is a lot that can be used sincd the concepts all relate. A lot of the techniques can be successfully used when removing persons from property, and any time you use words instead of force you reduce the liability potential of the overall situation.
My duty holster is a barebones Kydex duty holster basicaly the exact same thing as this one https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Adjustable-Available-Material-Optional/dp/B09LH9ZB9W?th=1
For off the clock I carry a basic Kydex appendix holster that clips inside of my waistband. I dont even know the brand I paid $20 for it on Amazon but it works just fine.
I don't know what in the fresh nut buttery fuck you are doing to that thing if you're working anywhere that isn't a warzone, but since that's the only conclusion I can reach, perhaps the best recommendation would be something slightly more durable such as this nice aluminum and plexiglass option.
http://www.amazon.com/Weluck-Holder-Durable-Aluminum-Storable/dp/B09J1LM54N
I highly recommend the Fenix TK16 v2.0 Tactical Flashlight, it’s a 3100 lumens. Id say it is well worth the price for what it is. It has five settings from being very light to being very bright, and a strobe mode. It has a window breaker on the front and rechargeable batteries. Personally I believe it is the best security flashlight.
If that's what works for you go for it. UnderArmorer and Nike also have good boots. Personally I'm rocking Bates
Any $10 EMT glove pouch for 2 1/2 inch duty belt will do. I prefer the softer ones since mine is right in my tailbone.
I use these They're about twice as thick as regular nitrile, so take some getting used to. But they're durable, super grippy and should be accepted with any company uniform standards
I prefer hearing them, so I always know that I've never forgotten them.
But you can get what they call stealth key holders from Amazon for just a few bucks. They clip to your belt loop and the denier nylon folds snugly over the key bundle and closes usually with a pair of snaps
Like this one here. Just search Silent Key Holder for Duty Belt
I've got one of these left over from my Towing / Roadside days

We issued these jackets to our employees (I was a co-owner of a small company for the last few years in that industry) - Tingley makes cheaper versions, but I liked the fleece lined version with the zip-out liner. It included a zip off rain hood.
I was in the Portland, Oregon area for all that time and this is the jacket I'd wear fall - spring.
Insoles are the key as recommended by u/Username-Creative.
I recommend having a boot with over an 8-inch heal, as it offers more support for your ankles.
I'm not much of a fan for having a steel toe. It could get you into some legal trouble, should you ever kick someone.
I also recommend getting a boot that feels like a tennis shoe but also will have good traction. My recommendation would be this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001HPOGQ6 It has a huge amount of absorption, yet the grip/traction will be good for all kinds of weather.
You might also want to look into getting custom insoles made by podiatrist. They cost me $400 over 15 years ago, but they have lasted me for years! Well worth the investment. Everyone's foot is drastically different, and a majority of the time its not just eh shoe that counts.
Hone your writing skills. Virtually every call will result in a written report.
Think of some of the questions you'll face. "What would you do if xxx happened?" "What was your favorite time on the job?" "What's the thing you dislike most about the job?" (I answered, "Filling out paperwork that no one will ever read!") "What would you do if you caught a fellow officer pilfering?" Answer all these questions with a "perfect world" attitude.
Here's the one I hate most: “What’s your greatest weakness?” "I sometimes become frustrated with people who obstinately try to badger me into wrong or illegal behavior."

These work good... sensed motion sets off an alert/alarm on the receiver. Just carry the receiver with you. I actually used these when I took care of my Mother before she passed. I put the sensor by her bed on the floor so I could be alerted when she tried to get out of bed. They are waterproof, battery operated and the signal is good for a half mile. https://www.amazon.com/Detector-1byone-Wireless-Driveway-Weatherproof/dp/B07Q2Y1BTQ/ref=sr\_1\_8?crid=MBDEOQTOY1T0&keywords=driveway%2Balarms%2Bwireless%2Boutside%2Bweatherproof%2Bbattery%2Bpowered&qid=1662731439&sprefix=driveway%2Bal%...

Probably won't find a single cable like that, most will be the 2 pin K1 connector to a female 3.5. Can get just about any length straight or coiled M-M 3.5 cable between the adapter and your headset from there.

Yes sir, I swear up and down by this stuff. Broken up countless parking lot brawls with a single spray dispersed over the group. Just be sure to check your windage first. Everything else on the market is a distant second.
Or something like This
You might even be able to get it for free if you poke around online and do amazon "reviews". See the dumb makers name? Typical chinese stuff flooding the rainforest. Someone, somewhere is most likely offering it for FAR (Free After Review)
While suffering from neurotoxicity, I couldn’t tolerate heat at all; 70F was hot to me then (I still have trouble w/heat, but not as bad); I wear/wore a cooling vest; I got one of these:
FlexiFreeze Ice Vest
Make sure you have spare panels in a cooler, once it stops cooling it becomes a heating vest!
Back when I got mine, it was the only one they had, but I see they have many more types now:

Unless the company is blocking common VPN ports. Client wise I'd suggest ProtonVPN, same people who make protonmail. No logs, Swiss-based and good fast servers.
Personally, I recommend designing your own reflective vests at websites like this one or the myriad others when you google . It's usually a few dollars more per vest but you can add your own company or site logo an, label it how you want, where you want, with whatever text you want. I find that it looks more professional when your reflective vests are labelled site-specific, like 'XYZ Security'.
Failing that, I've used this vest before and it worked well enough. Whatever you get, definitely recommend getting one with mic tabs if you have shoulder mics at your site.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MFPKTMX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 I'm currently using this one. Main reason I picked it was because they have straps where I can hang keys.

ID statewide does not have any statutes or regulations related to security. Armed security may have restrictions depending on your county or city, but again nothing statewide. Like others said, checking http://www.indeed.com for jobs is probably your best start, aside from looking at applying directly at locations known for having in-house security if you are in a larger city. Hospitals, schools, or municipal buildings for that type of work and checking local government, state, or hospital job pages might turn up results not listed in job search sites.
As the joke goes, if you have a pulse you're a shoe-in. Beyond that, doesn't look like there are any other hurdles to clear.

Well it’s better, my employers gave me a pretty dumb vest if you ask me, no protection just for ‘intimidation’ as they say. Link to photo: https://imgbb.com I had to buy my own vest, is a protection level ll balistic resistant to 9mm and stab-proof.
I got something similar to this when I started working as a Correctional Officer.
Chase those certs man like a+ certification, network +, and security +. Looks good on your resume. World of IT is awesome, you don't even need to go to college. For the certs check out Mike meyers and professor messor on youtube(free). Mike meyers all in one series are good. I've heard people passing the exam just by watching the free professor messer vids but the exam is expensive (Like 300 bucks i think, too tired to check at the moment lol) and I prefer to go the longer route and read that huge thorough book by Mike meyers. I want to make sure I pass the first time lol. I recommend taking practice tests and can't go wrong with some flash cards. These Merrell boots are what I always recommend
I have used Bates, 5.11, Magnum and a few others in the past but these Merrells blow everything else out of water. Comfortable from the day I put them on with very little need to actually break them in. I can be on my feet all day with absolutely no foot pains or fatigue. Water proof of course.
They are a bit more expensive but fucking worth it several times over.
Perfect idea. They are about the size of a standard notebook and I do supply all my guys with these
You can get them off Amazon, here is a 12 pack. They work great, just can’t use gel ink, must be a ballpoint regular ink or it will smudge like crazy, damn near wipes clean with gel, lol

If you wear a hat or cap of sorts this can help with bumps to the head. I suggest it if you work Nightshifts, shelters or in a hospital. Those guards get hit with anything.

Also get a CPR mask if your first aid trained.
Duty belt, get a multi pocket pouch. I have several that are a bit bigger than say an Iphone 11/pack of cigs? It will hold your pens, 3x5 notepd, gloves, couple masks if folded. Maybe a very small flashlight.
If a bigger flashlight like a 3D maglight then get the ring that holds them & snaps onto your belt. Similar to an old fashioned nightstick ring but made to fit the maglight.
As others said, key keeper for the keys. Or if small they might fit in the pouch, get a 2nd pouch for the phone. Linked below for the ones I used.
Cant help with the radio as I haven't used one in ages, my last site didn't really require it unless we were in the shack, on patrol for me at least the place was empty so no one to radio too :)
Now, the links are just what I used, not promoting them or anything, so anyone MMV.

Safariland has some good hard-leather ones that are pretty solid. I've also alternatively started using this one from Orpaz a few months ago and 100% love the feel of it, though it seems unfortunately they're out of stock on it now.
The main thing to the Orpaz is I got an extra holder for the belt so I can otherwise easily swap the entire Mk3 cartridge between a duty belt and a casual belt easily.

Not really but looks like the best I can hope for. I was looking for something like this but according to the question answered by the seller it doesn’t work for Motorola radios. Only other option I’ve seen is this kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L3KJW3B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_F3HA3964E68C6Y1ZFV3T but the multi pin version that would work with our radios is something like double the price.
I wear a pair of 5.11 A.T.A.C. 2.0 8” Shield boots every day and I generally put in between 5-6 miles per shift. I wear them because they offer the ankle support, slip resistance, and toe protection that I need, and because I work in a hospital the fact that the boots also protect against blood borne pathogens is a big plus in my book!
Hmm gotcha. Having a concealed vest makes it tough. Something like this might be a good solution. I’ve never used it before but it seems like it might work if you have buttons in the right places. Loop it over any button and it’ll add a nice little place to hook it on

As others have said, Wireless earbuds and audiobooks. If you can though, try to get something that you can use with only one ear, and is somewhat discreet. I use these kind of S530 Bluetooth earphones, but it can be a little hit and miss with how good each one is.

Got stuck on level 36 in the campaign. It's like a super low level Risk type game. Fat finger friendly with an undo button if you don't end your turn.
Pretty much the only work friendly mobile game I ever found enjoyable.
handcuff holster I’ve got this it has a metal clip on the back instead of straps
Wind is a primary reason why I won't use spray, foam or gel only.
Only horror story I have is when I got my OCAT certification and we had to do a gauntlet while under the impact of a foam variant. Instructor claimed it was training grade but that shit was like satan himself taking a piss directly into my eyeballs lol.
That said a good holster is a good way to keep mistakes from happening. On my actual duty belt I have a Hardshell STX case from Safariland for my Mk3 Gel, on my casual/off-duty belt wear I use the Mk3 Quick-draw from Orpaz. Both do a pretty good job at avoiding accidental discharge in any form, and should in any decent impact prevent canister breach.
Under Armour Stellar boots. I will always swear by them.. 12 hours standing no problem. Suuuper light, lighter than most shoes.
They are waterproof, they do great in cold conditions. They come in a traditional lace up or a side zip. I've had both and The side zips aren't bad at all and I've never had the zipper fail, but the lace ups are more sturdy on the ankle.

I wear SAS (couple varieties) shoes to work. American made, excellent quality. Very comfortable working long shifts. They are expensive though. Also, they come in wide and extra wide if you have large feet like me. I currently am wearing a different style but this is one I've worn in the past: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M8EWXBA/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_NXEW86XY7YTYQ0WAWEFA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I’ve been using these for about a year and I love them. Cheap, bright, and durable.
Anything Streamlight. I used a Microstream when I worked in data centers and moved to a ProTac when I got into Corrections.

I carry a Sofirn, can’t remember the model but I’ve had it for about two years and it’s great. Only cost around $35-$40. It came in the cheapest looking box I’ve seen but the build quality is phenomenal. Very durable and totally waterproof, I carry it in the rain, and I’ve dropped on the pavement a few times from a decent height, it in puddles where it was totally submerged in water, and it still keeps shining. has four brightness settings, with the brightest hitting 1000 lumens on turbo mode, and it has a strobe. There are a few quality of life features it lacks, such as having to remove the battery to recharge it rather than just plugging in the flashlight itself, and the switch is located on the side rather than on the butt of the light, but overall it’s an amazing flashlight for the money. Probably the best bang for your buck brand I’ve seen. One of the more mainstream brands would probably cost double for what this little guy offers.
Edit: I have the Sofirn SP32A V2 - $30.99 at Amazon right now.

Something no one ever thinks about, EYE fucking DROPS! And do NOT get clear eyes, they can be bad for you. I use these because it can be used as often as needed. There’s some higher end drops as well.
Why eye drops? Because many of us, just from staying awake too long will develop dry eyes throughout the night, making you wanna close your eyes and then bam you’re asleep. I work 12 hour overnights everyday, trust.
Caffeine but goddamn be careful please, exercise if you’re gonna abuse caffeine. People don’t realize how crazy side effects of excessive caffeine can be.
If you can, transform your room into a place for sleeping. I’m talking blackout curtains and splurge on some good bedding. Make your sleep as good as possible, and if you plan on using black out curtains cut them to size and Velcro them to the edges of your window. Then hang up regular curtains over. This way no sunlight seeps in.
And lastly if you wanna get real fancy with it, buy some blue light blocking glasses for the drive home and the last hour of your shift. Blue is meant to wake us up, and you stepping out into the sun can cause the issue a lot of us also have. Being sleepy at work, then not being able to sleep once you get home.
Agreed. I’d recommend this if you still want a last ditch defensive tool with your light. It’s crazy bright, a LOT shorter but still bigger than a pocket sized light, and it fits in the ring holder for maglites. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079D3DDGB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dlC_2X8UFbDG73WY6
