It's not a single quote, but the conversation in SH2 between James and Angela in the burning staircase always makes me feel uneasy and extremely sympathetic towards Angela's dark plight. I find it also effectively illustrates the power of Silent Hill to warp perception of the damned:
Angela: No. Don’t pity me. I’m not worth it....
The tone of Angela’s voice suddenly changes.
Angela: Or maybe you think you can save me? Will you love me? Take care of me? Heal all my pain?
James doesn’t respond.
Angela: That’s what I thought. James. Give me back that knife.
Angela reaches her hand out towards James.
James: No... I, I won’t.
Angela: Saving it for yourself?
Angela begins to walk up the fiery staircase.
James: Me? No... I’d never kill myself.... It’s hot as hell in here.
Angela: You see it too? For me, it’s always like this.
From GameFAQs.com's SH2 Game Script.
EDIT: I just wanted to add, the way James contemplates suicide with the knife for a second eerily echoes the In Water ending.

Before anyone complains about "why would this matter if the game takes place in 'merica" go look at the teaser's credits...
I'm glad you're interested in this, but I feel it's unnecessary. You can just mod the game to 1080 (or 4K) in PCSX2 or mod the PC version. The textures/animations aren't so bad that they need a remake. I also argue that SH2 still looks better than many games these days:
https://pcgamingwiki.com/images/f/fd/Silent_Hill_2_PC_upscaled.png
In addition, SH2 (and its code) is so intrinsically detailed to the point that many things would be hard to implement in a remake. It includes aspects such as sound randomization, the secret information which determines the endings (for example, the game monitors how well Maria has been protected, how often you heal yourself, etc).
SH2's aged and detailed code is why the official Silent Hill HD Collection is such an atrocity, and why that version was full of bugs and glitches. If a team of porters (Hijinx Studios) could barely do it, I doubt a team of fan-porters/remakers could. So you're talking about reverse engineering the entire final version of the code, porting it into a new engine, and replacing much content, which I think sounds extremely infeasible.
Also, unfortunately, you'll have to give up on your SH2 remake project because Konami will likely do a cease-and-desist, because you're still distributing their copyrighted code.
If there was a game that deserves to be remade more than SH2, it would be SH1. But even then, you'd still probably run into cease and desist issues.

You should play them on PC instead if you don't mind a bit of tinkering and modding. The HD Collection is dogshit and is littered with bugs, slowdown, jittering, poor audio mixing, etc.
The PC versions with mods is the best way to experience 2 & 3.

This helped me but I’ll be honest. The biggest help was just giving up and setting the resolution to 720p. Mine went from 15 FPS to 40 FPS after I did that. It’s really a good game but a bad port. Hope this helps.
PCSX2 http://pcsx2.net/
Pretty stable and most games work on it. Takes a bit of setting up and tweaking the settings to get games running optimally (and remember different games might have different settings). You'll need to find a BIOS or create one from your PS2, and you can use either ISO files or the actual PS2 disk for games.
That frame-rate issue is actually pretty common and fixable. I've also noticed over the past few months that the PC Silent Hill games have received a lot of updates to their PCGamingWiki entries which is good news.
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_3#Frame_rate_fluctuation
Hey, I've been over with some of the people at GameFAQs, and apparently there is something to the tub thing.
After working out the "Look at the bathtub." bit and mixing that clue with the other voice on the radio going, "Don't trust the tap water." a guy went and stared at the bathtub for a while with the radio broadcasting coming on.
The game displayed a glitch screen, which when repeated yielded the same one, so the screen doesn't seem to be random.
It says, "Fix this damn bug (Cause - ??) before release!" as well as in several different languages.
It might just be a gag, to simulate that something was supposed to happen, but didn't and be further playing on the "this is an indie title" guise the game had going.
Here's a link to the thread http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/827527-pt/69865464?page=2

PCSX2 is a shit emulator, every version i use has different problems. Just play the pc port.

File > Configuration > Controllers.
Configure it to your liking by clicking the window next to the image of the button you wish to bind, and then pressing the equivalent button on your controller of choice.
If you want to use a DS4, you're going to need a program called DS4Windows, which tricks your computer into thinking the DS4 is an xbox controller. http://ds4windows.com/
I don't usually post this kind of stuff in certain subreddits, but I have to say this is a pretty cool Half Life 2 mod that turns the world into Silent Hill.
Now there is no monsters that you have to fight, but it is the atmosphere that makes this really creepy. It has been fun so far and as of right now I do recommend anyone looking for a new Silent Hill type of game to download it.
You can find it on the Moddb site - https://www.moddb.com/mods/alchemilla-mod OR It's in my description in the video
In the article, Busou Shinki, saying about chief producer, Hiroyuki Owaku, Busou Shinki series by Konami. May be this is he?
I think it's this in part, but furthermore, green is often used in movie and other mediums as the "spooky" color. Color motifs like this change from peice to peice, but color is normally there for a reason.
For example, in pan's labyrinth,
>Color was a really important tool in Guillermo del Toro’s arsenal, which he used really well to support the narrative throughout Pan’s Labyrinth. If I remember correctly, he used different colors to differentiate between reality and fantasy, with the former having a blue tone and the latter a red/gold tone. In essence, he used darker shades for reality and a warmer, vibrant color palette for fantasy. In addition, he also used different hues of green to show the world of the Faun.

I have setup PC versions of SH2 (enhanced edition), SH3 and SH4 on my Fedora 34 Linux machine. I'm running wine 6.13 and didn't have that many issues setting it all up.
SH2 I pretty much followed the official guide. For SH3 I added some mod to get widescreen support. SH4 I'm running the GOG version which has all the stuff I required out of the box.
I believe Lutris has a simplified way of setting things up for SH2 at least: https://lutris.net/games/silent-hill-2-directors-cut/
But once you start messing with wine and winetricks it won't be that hard to do it on your own :P
I bought it and i love it. You can save anywhere, but not all of Heather's outfits are in the PC version.
as always, have a look at pcgamingwiki.com to find out more : https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_3
i played through it on PC and absolutely loved it.
have you checked out pcgamingwiki ? they have a section on low framerate issue here
There are several fan remakes, and unfortunately they are not clearly labeled which is which (I have several stored on my hard drive).
You can get some of them from googling violently or just going to the biggest torrent site you can think of.
Or, you know, Googling violently.
It's pretty sweet. Amazon used to have these paneled art pieces with Silent Hill art on them, one of them was Pyramid Head (I believe it was this image). They were so huge they had to be in like 8 different square frames or something. I was looking for them to post a link but can't seem to find them anymore. I need more Silent Hill related schwag. All I have is all the games (US releases, PS/2 and XBOX) and all the soundtracks, which are still in their original shrinkwrap (couldn't bring myself to open them).
I don't even have the movie, lol. I do have one of these shirts, though. Someone from the guild I was in on an online game I used to play bought it for me a couple years ago, haha.
use a vpn or something to make it so your IP seems like it's in japan, then switch your country here https://www.spotify.com/us/account/profile/

you could even do it on mobile since theres tons of free vpn apps, just make sure the app has a japan option
There's a free game on gamejolt called Banned Memories: Yamanashi, that seems very silent hill 1 like.
Perhaps too much like Silent Hill 1 to be honest. I haven't played it, but it looks interesting at least.

Google: ps3 ps2 compatibility list
Ctrl-f Silent Hill: list of minor issues.
It requires a lot of fixes in general to get working which can all be found here.
IIRC all the cutscenes run at 15fps which some people won't like and it uses SecureROM as DRM which can be a problem for people on Windows 10. I'd say you're best off emulating the PS2 version, since it would actually be easier to set up and you'd run into less problems.
The fixes here fix just about everything
And I think under the circumstance that nobody is receiving money for it anyway (not even for the HD collection anymore since I can't even find new copies) I don't think pirating the PC copy would hurt anyone all that much.
Just download an emulator, like ePSXe and then buy a used copy of the PS1 game from eBay or your local game store.
It's not pirating, since you own the game, and it will play great.
I do this with SH1 and my European copy of SH2.
Then, if you buy a PS3 controller you can use the USB cable to connect to your computer and then you're golden! Just install MotionInJoy and you're all set!
The emulators can work with controllers, you just need to install some drivers, a emulation tool, PS2 BIOS and disc image. It's not complex once you get the hang of it.
Emulator: http://pcsx2.net/
Driver: http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Driver_Package
The game and BIOS are easy to find, but can't post it here for reasons. :P
The PC versions are pretty difficult to come by these days. I got downvoted before for saying this, but if you already have the game on PS2, you could always play it through an emulator (PCSX2). Some people seem to have issues getting it to work properly, but I have it running fine at 1080p, 60fps. If you decide to do this and you're having problems, throw me a PM and I'll try and help you out.
For those unable to view the picture: how to reach restricted pictures 101.
I simply could’ve linked you the resulting image in 1020 × 583 but learning by practice is always better than by mere reading. Enjoy!
Not quite. You'll need to create an .iso file from the disk using a program like LC ISO Creator and then boot it from PCSX2. It also means you won't need the disk and you can just play it from your hard drive.
Going by the names at the end of the playable teaser, Kojima's Japan studio are making this, or at least they seem to be the primary studio behind it. So I wouldnt look too far into the job openings for the LA studio.
There's also the fact the jobs that hint toward "Silent Hills" being in early development are actually the exact same jobs listed on the Metal Gear Solid careers website
It's crazy that we are only at 33% compatibility with a system that's 12 years old, but that's the Cell Processor for ya. The NES was near 100% within... what, like 16 months after game emulation hit big? Except for those games with the weird chipsets and such.
I would recommend not playing Silent Hill 1 on PS3 as it is quite buggy in parts. If you can get a PS1/PS2 to play it on that would be the way to go. I would definitely urge you to get a physical copy for this one. Looks like you can get it for about $25 on Amazon.
For Silent Hill 2 and 3 you are absolutely correct that the PS2 versions are the way to go (though the PC versions are quite good as well). For Silent Hill 2 be sure to get the Greatest Hits/Director's Cut version as it has more content than the standard release.
>As far as I understand you can get Book of Memories on PSN buy you need a vita to play it, right?
Yes, Book of Memories is only playable on the Vita. Personally I'm waiting for the Vita price to drop enough that I can justify buying it for just one game but they're still going for like $150.
I picked the hat up from Amazon not long ago, here.

Anyone who wants the awesome live wallpaper made by the OP on their iPhone:
Here’s the animation I’ve trimmed from the OP’s amazing link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/g9wm2slsqp0gsoa/Video%2013-02-2020%2C%2021%2002%2020.mov?dl=0
For those on iOS: here’s the webpage with the instructions (via a free 3rd party app) to convert the video to Live Wallpaper. You’ll also need to scale the animation smaller in the app (only a little) so it doesn’t get cropped on your lock screen. Also; remember to click the Live button at this stage or you’ll just end up with a static final image.

Androiders: researching this, I saw that there are similar apps and instructions out there that do the same job, a quick google should put you on the right path!
Finally, all credit should go to to u/necr0seer for the hard work - thanks again!
I used to feel the exact same way. I played through the Silent Hill games when I was around 10-12 years old and was terrified of them. As I grew older I became less scared when playing any of the Silent Hill games, and newer horror games did nothing for me. I figured since I was growing older, I was becoming less scared of fictional things.
A few years ago I played a Half Life 2 mod called Alchemilla. There aren't any enemies and I don't think there are any major puzzles, however I feel as though the creators did a nice job of recreating the atmosphere of Silent Hill. Playing through this, for the first time in years I actually felt scared by the atmosphere of a game again. This mod made me realize that it's not growing up that ruined horror games for me, it was the fact that I'd played through each Silent Hill game so many times that there was nothing new to experience, mixed with the fact that newer AAA horror games just aren't good (in my opinion).
Welcome to Hanwell is supposed to be very similar
Also, the free Silent Hill: Alchemilla mod for Half Life 2 is decent. Not much of a game, more of a 1st person walking simulator with silent hill atmosphere. https://www.moddb.com/mods/alchemilla-mod/news/prepare-for-your-nightmare-alchemilla-is-out

Well it’s strange cause the copy hes selling isn’t even the greatest hits either. So this leaves me with many questions.
If it is a custom cover. Then where did the cover come from? I know it’s from Xbox but why would this guy spend time in making a custom PS2 restless dreams cover for the game instead of just printing the original. That’s what I’m getting at.the cover
Since the games have been brought up, might as well add that they're currently on sale on Steam. The bundle of both games is ~$5 (or about $6 if bought separately): https://store.steampowered.com/sub/36489/
*Edit - That's what I get for not reading the body text, sorry about that! Well, either way, I provided a store link for those interested xD
> Homecoming's PC port is awful
Does the PC Gaming Wiki article lack information? This recent post paints an entirely different picture: https://www.reddit.com/r/silenthill/comments/92bsqj/silent_hill_homecoming_pc_essential_mods_and_fixes/
Only the audio bug on the PC Gaming Wiki page can be considered as severe, having to change to the 5.1 audio on a stereo system of course imbalances the soundscape. While especially SH2 and 4 lacked numerous graphical effects on PC, this shouldn't be a concern when porting over from the seventh console generation.
I've considered playing the 360 version on Xbox One when I eventually reach that point in the series, but haven't been able to make a decision.
No problem. If you gonna use a controller with vibration feature you should rename a .dll file in order to use Xinput plus. Here's how
Oh man, I’m jealous. I’ve been looking for PC copies for awhile that won’t break the bank. I recommend using the Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition patch for Silent Hill 2. You can also check PCGamingWiki for fixes on the other two games.
PC Gaming Wiki has some notes on how to fix issues with the PC version.
Personally not familiar with the PC version, I played on PCSX2, but I think you can either try fixing the PC version with the notes I linked, or play it on PCSX2.
Actually no. PC version is better now for SH2 and 3 IF YOU ADD MODS. But the community has done a spectacular job on those, I can confirm they are awesome. Search for SH2 Enhanced Edition, for SH2, and for SH3, go on This link and go under the Essential improvements section, and it's either the first or second mod, but I can't remember which is the better one, or even if you can/have to instal both, so someone will have to correct me there, or you'll have to do some search online. But, tbh, it's really worth it.
I was ironically trying to play this today too! Try unknown project's patch this fixes lock ups in cut scenes and some other issues. I still get quit to desktop issues myself. I was also grateful someone released a patch that shows the Xbox button prompts so I can use Xbox controller on PC!
At any rate the newest patch has two versions one makes quick time events easier to do and second will auto complete some qte for you! It's really nice!

SH1 - Original PS1 or Mednafen Emulator SH2 - Enhanced Edition on PC (http://www.enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/) SH3 - PC + Fixes (https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_3) SH4 - Not sure about it - heard that PC version had some content cut, so I suppose you should stick with PS2 or PCSX2
You can emulate SH1 with a couple different Playstation emulators (pcsxr, epsxe, etc).
2 though four have PC ports. See the PC Gaming Wiki entries on them.
Here is the link to the PCGW articles for the Silent Hill series.
Well, congrats on the baby, firstly. :)
And yeah, it's Vita-exclusive, sadly. Here's the debut trailer for the game. And here's a review of the demo. I guess those links would probably explain the game better than I probably can...
Installed Silent Hill 4 from gog.com.
The window switched from white to black, black to white, white to black and then the game crash. Looks like Silent Hill 4 could be used to test SSD.
No, the only original version available digitally is Silent Hill 4 for PC on gog.com. Otherwise, it's either piracy or be prepared to shell out a ridiculous amount of money for a physical copy.
I played a fun little indie game recently called "I'm scared", It's not very long or anything but it certainly messed with me when I played it, I would recommend playing it in the dark as it's something that's easy to write off during the day.
While the game itself is short and only scary if you allow it to be, the developer seems to know how to actually put a bit of chill into you.
http://gamejolt.com/games/imscared-a-pixelated-nightmare/10058
Always check out pcgamingwiki.com if you are uncertain about the quality of a port.
SH4 was not bad, but it was the weakest of the original four games. It's a bit... err... light on puzzles. The PC version has its issues.
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_4:_The_Room
Homecoming wasn't exactly a bad game, but its immediately apparent, that the original team was not involved. It feels like fan-fiction. The PC port has a number of problems, but it's not as bad as it could be, if you don't mind getting your hands on a few community fixes. The PC version has an option to invert the Y axis, something that is missing from the PS3 original.
Most of the series after 1 is available on PC. No emulator needed.
The best version of Silent Hill 2 is Silent Hill 2: Director's Cut on PC modded as per this extensive guide.
The title of the guide is rather unfortunate but it's much more than just a widescreen fix.
I recommend consulting PCGamingWiki in the future.
As someone who just streamed 3, 4, and 2, I recommend the ps2 version of SH2, the PC version of SH3, the ps2 version of SH4. Sh2 on PC looks higher def but it has way less atmosphere and so many big fixes are needed that will cause the game to crash on occasion if using OBS. Might be ok with other streaming platforms.
If you go on and do the rest of the games, SH 3 is pretty good once you get the patches as well. SH 4 is ok,, but the patches break the interactions that were in first person such as looking out the keyhole or out the window. They break in the sense that the sides become clear and the effects disappear which is jarring.
You can stretch the image so that the sides aren't mess up but then everything in those same interactive sections are going to be squished which is very noticeable, but I guess that depends on your tolerance. Also mouse and keyboard controls suck on all pc versions of these games.
What you need if going pc is wide screen patch followed by the game you are going to play. And look for something call xinput plus to get Xbox controllers working. A full list of fixed can be found at https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Silent_Hill_2:_Director's_Cut
> t's been a while since I played it, but it's a decent port if I recall correctly.

Which version of DS4Windows are you using? I use v2.1.0 and I didn't have that issue (https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases). It was plug and play for me (I did enable Hide DS4 option). Didnt have the issues you are saying. I was able to play SH2 with pcsx2 without DS4Windows but the only issue was that there wasn't any controller vibration
Get the emulator here, OpenGL GDSX plugin is integrated with every revision since January. To get Silent Hill 2, you'll have to buy a copy off eBay or something as piracy isn't encouraged.
I may just write a emulation FAQ when I have the time, tomorrow.
Try WinCDEmu over adware, I've always installed PC games which come on multiple discs by mounting each.
>I am trying to play SH2 via a download for PC. I got the game installed via the three discs that cam with the file, but when I click on Start Game I get a message saying Please Insert Disc 1.
Where are you selecting "start game"? In the finished installer? Shortcut?
Oh... That's too bad. I'm using PCSX2 and a PS4 controller that I set up with DS4PC. It's much better to play 'em this way, especially on a really good PC, gives you an ability to crank up resolution to insane degree, making the visuals sharp and really neat.

> I get the confirmation window, when I accept nothing happens.
Turn off these annoying pop-ups.
Maybe your antivirus (of Windows Defender) blocks the fix? You can disable WinDef, but if you don't have enough experience, it can help. If you do, it will just give you false positives. Same with antivirus (if you have one), but you can just add the fix to the exceptions list.
I couldn't buy downpour for xbox, cos' it was delisted from digital stores, but i read that Downpour has poor perfomance on consoles, i have no idea how it perfoms on that ps3 emulator, but the compatibility list of RCPS3 mentions it's playable:
"Playable (58.79%): Games that can be completed with playable performance and no game breaking glitches"

Amazon UK used to sell them Amazon Robbie Plush
Check out this option on amazon. I ordered it recently for SH2 and SH3 on my PS2. Works fine with no issues and it’s decently priced.
According to Amazon Kindle, the author AJ Thompson is actually the Gaming Muse, a YouTuber I sometimes watch who does Silent Hill symbolism videos. So I don't think it's official.

I dunno, I'm not much of an audiophile, I just find that using any headphones is better for horror games than your TV's speakers. On my last playthrough, I used the PlayStation Gold headset plugged with the 3.5mm jack into an adapter that plugged into the optical port. Gave me crystal clear audio. Wasn't planning on it at first, but for some reason, my PS2's AV port created bad noise that seemed to vary based on how much white was in the image. Go figure.
For the audio level, you can buy an adapter that adds a volume dial, it's pretty cheap. It looks like this, and you can probably find one at your local electronics store.
You'd have to do your own research to see which one suits your needs best, but for me this Sony one is fantastic for the price. Would recommend. They're all fairly good nowadays, though. Just check reviews and educate yourself on specs.
I know it's an old thread, but you can buy Silent Hill HD on Amazon that comes with 2 and 3. Just don't play with the new voices, original voices are much better.
