It's not surprising, sony as much as any other large company suffers from the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Support wouldn't necessarily have any idea what's going on in development.
A positive sign : sw3 is still on the android wear page.
In my case, I used Runkeeper but also encountered problems. I changed to Ghostracer and had the app upload the data of each run to RunKeeper.
Honestly, it's not a great idea to bring the SW3 to the pool.

I use Wear Media to listen to music directly from the watch to bluetooth headphones.
It's a lot simpler than google play, which I could never manage to get working properly - there were too many convoluted steps.
Download the "Wear GPS Status" app. Its made by the same developer of GR. If GR is not finding GPS signal open the Status app and it will display your current GPS connections. This is usually enough to "jump start" the watch GPS to connecting and break the endless loop of GR GPS connecting. I haven't had a GPS issue in 6 months using this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bravetheskies.gpstest&hl=en
To the best of my knowledge, Strava doesn't have an app with smartwatch support, so you need a separate app for it.
I use both Ghostracer and Strava myself.
You can sideload the sony music app
or use wear music
or google play
gps use doesn't depend on the phone.
SW1/2 were not Android Wear. The companion apps were purpose built for those models.
All Android Wear watches need the Standard from Google Android Wear companion app. use that.
FYI. this one:

Unfortunately, this isn't new information. Consumer Reports did a test previously and came to a similar conclusion.
"The Sony SmartWatch 3 was the only watch that did not pass our water-resistance test. Two consecutive samples did not function properly after being submerged for 30 minutes at 3.3 feet. Because of its poor performance in this test, the Sony fell to the bottom of our rankings."
Frankly, I would really hesitate to use my SW3 when swimming. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/05/apple-watch-comes-out-tops-in-consumer-reports-smartwatch-tests/index.htm
Hello everyone !
As you asked many, made a version of the legendary watch face for Wear OS
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.watchfacestudio.legend
🔥NOTE:
to avoid the message "Your devices are not compatible", use Play Store on WEB browser instead of app on smartphone.
The second way, just go to the link - close everything and follow the link again, you will see what can now be set for your watch!
I got this
ArmorSuit MilitaryShield - Sony SmartWatch 3 Screen Protector + White Carbon Fiber Full Body Skin Protector / Front Anti-Bubble and Extreme Clarity HD Shield with Lifetime Replacements https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OZHZ27K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_BNhJwb30Q0K6P
I haven't lost a GPS signal in months.
I've been using these from HuskyDev:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=huskydev.android.watchface.everydayfree
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=huskydev.android.watchface.classic
I liked them enough I bought the premium version to get a little more customization, but the free ones are fine on their own.
I use FX, it's free, has many features, no ads and works perfectly on the small screen.
It also has a built-in image viewer, audio player and text editor.
Important: You need a very low DPI to finish the setup (and uncheck "Start FX Plus trial" if you don't want that). When starting it for the first time, use something like 100 or 120.
EDIT I used twrpnew.img from the drive folder; it seems to work so far!! (Now shows 1840mb instead of 0mb). Creating a backup, will flash SU and report back :)
It wouldn't be fit that's to blame. If for some reason the apps are being fed data from the watch gps instead of the phone while the phone is connected, that's play services doing. Play services chooses where the data comes from, unless the app is written specifically for the watch gps
It's not inconceivable that was broken with the latest play services update recently.
The smartwatch has a GPS.
However apps need to support the GPS function to use it. The smartwatch cant just add the GPS function if the app doesnt support it
So far no map app has decided to implement GPS support on an offline app.
<strong>this</strong> is the closest thing we have on that department but the dev has decided that GPS is only used when the watch is paired to a phone.
No idea why really.
I will probably drop them a line about how little sense this makes considering its an offline map app soon.
Waiting for google to make maps available offline on wear could take ages
I really like this one. Especially the dimmed mode. It has some small bugs that could annoy you (or not) dependong on what variation you use, but for someone whose job is highly linked to weather, it's a jem. (I am a greenkeeper)

+1 for Pujie Black. Ustwo also has a couple apps which give you a bunch of watch faces within the one app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ustwo.watchfaces.smart
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ustwo.watchfaces.basic
Specialized is ok (but doesn't show date): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.specialized.watchface&hl=en
In addition to thick fonts, black-on-white is more readable too. I never found one so I made one myself: https://www.reddit.com/r/smartwatch3/comments/3aut6l/steps_to_make_a_watchface_optimized_for_sw3/
> The confusion for me is why notifications don't vibrate under theatre mode.
IMO, when I fork over $10 for a movie, I don't want any interruptions. So this works for me. It's mute + turn off tilt-to-wake, without pulling out the phone and navigating all the way to the settings, and repeating that after the movie. Bonus: no accidental bright light when I cross my arms.
>If I sleep with my watch on, I can't get woken by an alarm, unless I leave theatre mode off and be prepared for my watch to turn on and possibly sit in listening mode all night.
Yes, a toggle for touch-to-wake would be very good. I'm tempted to try the mod to turn this off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android-wear/development/disable-touch-wake-to-save-battery-t3116936 but it's a bunch of hoops to jump through.
Tilt-to-wake and button-press-to-wake would still work.
> Turning off the touch screen is very useful in the shower, or while swimming, or working in different conditions, but under this implementation the watch ceases to be a notification device.
There's also showear (I don't know how to reliably activate the built-in lock screen)
> Right next to theatre mode is the watch profile setting, where i can intentionally avoid notifications, so i don't need theatre mode to do that. Essentially, I may as well be in airplane mode whenever I'm in theatre.
Airplane mode for all other a.w. watches means a still-glowing screen in a dark room.
We need a custom mode we can access from the drop-down settings. It will activate a setting with the things toggled the way we want: dim screen on/off, mute on/off, touch-to-wake active/disabled, tilt-to-wake on/off.
