At the end of the day second home ownership/airbnb/etc. has been displacing people from ski and tourist destination towns in the United States since the 1980s. This is nothing new. The only difference now is that everyone is pointing and screaming EnTiTlED TeCh WOrKeRs, and while many of them are, it's just a distraction from the ACTUAL problems of total greed and failure on the part of local officials and opportunistic developers.

I moved to Stateline, Nevada (Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe) from Pittsburgh (Irwin, by way of Dormont) back in 2011. Make sure to get a hug from everyone because you're not going to want to return. Lived at one of the higher elevations around, Top of Kingsbury Grade, and have yet to own a 4wd/AWD. That being said, you will need chains. I'd recommend something easy to put on, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Laclede-7021-540-07-Alpine-Premier-Passenger/dp/B00EZWWPJS. Avoid the chains that look like a ladder when laid flat, they are terrible.
Coming from the city I'd recommend South Lake/Stateline ( no income tax in Nevada!). Preferably some place within walking distance of Heavenly. If you will be renting a place try to find one with a snowblower, because you will need it!
Good luck. Oh and bring Yuengling! There's none out here.
Good luck.
I don't have an offer of employment/placement, but I recommend also asking on your local Nextdoor.com group, since it may reach many more people in the area who may be able to assist.
I think along the east shore is where you'll find gorgeous shallow water. How "green" it will be will probably depend on when you go and what time of day, but it makes for beautiful photos to be sure. I'm partial to Chimney Beach, but be aware that there is a nude beach near it. Here's a pic that gives a good idea of what East Shore looks like.
There's not much left, but I havent been up. Check out all trails, people post updates and pictures on conditions all the time.
Someone posted an hour ago that there's 2 small patches you have to hike around, but that's it.
SLT is amazing for trail running. Since you mentioned Zephyr Cove I am assuming you are based on the NV side - I'm living in Upper Kingsbury now so have explored a lot of the trails around here.
Daggett Loop - I run this multiple times per week, A+ would recommend. I prefer counter clockwise but your experience may vary. Very runnable uphills once you're in shape, great lake views, some technical sections but also lots of smooth flowy dirt.
Van Sickle trail - great lake views. When going uphill you'll probably pass most bikers on the technical sections which is always ego-boosting. If you want to run a loop you can connect this to the TRT and then a dirt road that parallels Kingsbury grade, then the K to K trail.
TRT from either Kingsbury trailhead - Go as far as you want and turn around. Going towards monument pass (South) there are some amazing views into the Carson Valley.
If you want to do a long run, the loop combining Van Sickle, TRT to Monument Pass, Monument Pass connector, Cold Creek, and Powerlines is amazing, about 20 miles with a ton of vertical but very fun. Basically you are circumnavigating Heavenly.
If you aren't getting the full speeds you might need to replace your modem. The numbers you state are very similar to what I was getting with my older modem, after the upgrade I'm now getting the full advertised speeds. As others have mentioned, you can just go down to the office and they'll give you a new one.
Pole creek road is one valley north of Squaw and is all open National Forest camping. There are some great creekside camping spots as well as some larger open meadow sites further up the road with amazing views of the mountains all around. The dirt road is very passible with a 2 wheel drive car. There is also some fun exploring further up the pass, if you have a very serious 4x4.
.
.
Another great option with Lake Tahoe views is Barker Pass Road. It is paved to the top of the rim, with dirt roads beyond. there are many great camping spots here as well.
Location matters for what resort you want to visit, going to the other end of the lake can take an hour or more. The answer to your question anyway is Craigslist Vacation Rentals (hint: use the map feature) or Air BNB.
I just went through this exact same process last weekend for Boreal and these worked great. We had no interference from others since they have so many channels and the batteries lasted forever…like didn’t even show 1/4 used at the end of our ten hour day.
As an aside, I made a rule with my kids (they’re the same age as yours) that they’re only allowed to leave me if they stay with one another (ski lifts included). I don’t know that this made them any safer really, but it did make me feel better and got them something fun to do together without me which was cool.
Here is a short hike that will have views. Park at the starting point in the neighborhood. Follow the north side of the loop to the top of the mountain, then back down to the car. That will get you a decent lake view. As you can see on the trail map, you can deviate from the suggested rout at the top to reach the top of Tahoe Mountain.
Go for it. Forecast for today looks like wind won’t be a problem. There are some road closures near there so check status on your route.

Get one of these and help pick up after the morons. It can carry about 10 baggies of dog poop safely. Unfortunately, unless non-sociopaths pick it up, then it just sits there all summer.

It’s rarely that simple or universally true as patterns change overland. Everywhere in CA sends up with some good days and some awful days. I couldn’t find any decent way to pull annualized stats out of PurpleAir but it would probably be fairly interesting data.
Pretending that folks from the Bay Area aren’t used to smoke is just childish, regardless, though because that’s obviously not true.
Lets admit, you have no idea how to operate the resort. You are total failure. Bunch of hillbillies for Truckee, Reno, Nevada City, Kings Beach Heavenly, think that just to have hills and snow is enough to provide service. Wrong. And the majority of your dumb "rules" are implemented only to compensate your mismanagement and to increase your revenue at all costs. So Vail troll, here is a message for your too: https://wordpress.com/page/northstarsucks.com/427
I do not care. I got what I want: I got great traffic at NorthStarSucks.com. The blog is targeting both NorthStar and Vail as a bullshit companies. Suck your supervisor's dick to get a reward. Maybe a free pass. https://wordpress.com/page/northstarsucks.com/427
That is a very different product. Zip ties bad. Zip Grip good. This is much more like Trac Grabber which is also excellent.
They aren't good for day-to-day driving on snow. They're great if you're stuck in snow or mud and need some quick traction to get a few ft out.
These seem more heavy duty than the one Amazon sells the ones you showed seem like maybe just maybe they can work in an emergency and break on the first wheel spin

Was just there this past weekend. Left the trail head at 7am, wasn't busy at all. Lake had a moderate number of backpackers. No bugs yet, there is still snow on about 25%-35% of the trail, but it's not too hard to follow the footprints.
Pyramid peak is a great one in the area. Views from the summit of Desolation Wilderness, lake Aloha, and Tahoe are grand. The trailhead is a little wacky as it isn't much of a trail. You just park on the side of the road and can use the gps on the all trails app to find the start.

SLTCC ran a candidate forum/debate, which gives a decent read on where the City Council candidates stand on a few issues. Archived here: https://zoom.us/rec/share/6HUsJtGQVJTdUcp3mE9vfgroQbYIqaWdF8-JtTo8Xo1gMNYLVXh2AWXl59ycXru8.UEGgqWEgV8L2YL5j

A bunch of my buddies are flying in for next weekend (Feb 18-21) and we've been planning to drive up from the bay and hit the slopes. Staying in Homewood.
Looks like snow is forecast all 4 days (3-8"). https://www.wunderground.com/q/zmw:96141.1.99999 I usually drive up and ski in nicer weather, so I'm trying to decide if it will be worth it/even possible to hit the slopes at all.
• Anyone want to shoot down my hopes or tell me everything is going to be alright?
• Recommendations on northside mountains that have a better chance of being ski-able?
• Thoughts on road conditions (80 & 89) during this time? Will have 4wd and chains. We'd drive up Saturday morning, back Tues evening.
It's more like a traditional cable subscription. They have a number of plans which include traditional live cable channels like ESPN, Disney, AMC, Discovery, etc as well as on-demand access to local channel content.
I prefer it to a traditional cable plan because it avoids all the sort of auxiliary fees you tend to encounter for things like DVR, HD, additional set-top boxes, etc. You pay one fee and all you need is a compatible device for all your televisions (you don't need a Playstation, I use a FireTV).

Depends on what kind of stuff you watch on TV. Amazon Prime and Netflix is sometimes enough for some folks but I like still having access to live sports, etc.
Apologies for an amazon link (not a fan of space d***s) but just to see the prices...

One of those, dressed, 40f degrees = too hot, so I stripped = still too hot. They reflect like all of the body heat, are paper thin, fold into a 4"x4"x0.5" square, somewhat durable but everyone should have 1+ in their "whups I'm stuck in my car" bag. If you have food in your stomach and/or body fat you will not freeze.
Thanks for all the support, everyone! I'll look into sticker decals as some people were asking about them. I did manage to make a shirt for these, for anyone interested, on Amazon Merch.
Would this work for you?

It wouldn't require an electrician, and since it is automatic, you might be able to rig up an autostart signal to your generator if it has autostart input, to have auto back up. Otherwise you could just start the gen when you need it.

I got this bike rack and it actually works really well ok my GMC terrain with a little padding on the hooks. Said it would take a month to deliver, took under a week.
This seems like a great comprimise, considering the amount of "dry road" driving that we do during winter.
And I didn't know that some all season tires could be almost as good as snow tires (?). Is this the tire btw? https://www.amazon.com/Continental-ExtremeContact-DWS-All-Season-Tire/dp/B004QGZLKS
