I believe that is an urban legend. There were slight differences in height, but not enough to account for the radical differences in door and ceiling heights. http://hubpages.com/education/Myths-and-misconceptions-about-history-people-were-shorter-back-then I'm not having mufh luck finfing a source in why houses were small, but I remember reading it was due to economical use of materials.
That being said , there were definitely periods of time, such as Victorian London, where living conditions caused malnutrition and made people smaller. Some places right now, too...
See also: Orthostatic hypotension
>Causes
When you stand up, gravity causes blood to pool in your legs and abdomen. This decreases blood pressure because there's less blood circulating back to your heart.
Normally, special cells (baroreceptors) near your heart and neck arteries sense this lower blood pressure. The baroreceptors send signals to centers in your brain, which signals your heart to beat faster and pump more blood, which stabilizes blood pressure. These cells also narrow the blood vessels and increase blood pressure.
Orthostatic hypotension occurs when something interrupts the body's natural process of counteracting low blood pressure. Many different conditions can cause orthostatic hypotension...
Allegedly, height is not a factor, but I don't personally believe it.
Are you sure you can't request anything? - you never know they may already have something in storage from a previous employee.
Get the top of the monitor to eye level. Monitor stands aren't hugely expensive, and if work aren't willing to provide for your internship could you supply your own? Amazon basics for £15 for example. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-DHMSA-Adjustable-Monitor-Stand/dp/B00X4SCCFG/
Even with my raised desk (originally on some desk rising bricks, now a height adjustable one) and monitor stand I still need to have a old book on top of the monitor stand to get the screen to a sensible level, I also have the mousepad on top of a thin book as the (ergonomic) keyboard is high enough but the mouse lies too low.
That does remind me that years ago in a shop I worked in I was allowed to raise the till keyboard on top of a broken pack of 5 VHS tapes!
Oh, and failing everything else - get out at lunch and move around - going for at least a 30 minute walk at lunch time helped me loads.

I don't think so. I think either Tolkien made up "dwarves" or it was a very rare spelling that he decided to use. "Dwarfs" is used in mythical/folklore stuff as far as I can tell. "Dwarves" is pretty much only used in Tolkien's works, D&D, and fantasy novels published after Tolkien's works, as far as I know.

This would give you close to another foot. It can go straight up so it doesn't take up more room in the shower. Easy install and not too expensive.
I grew up on a typical American diet and am also a tall asian.
Children are typically taller than their parents (Sauce: Khan Academy) but I think the biggest contributor towards height is diet. If your childhood didn't include severe malnutrition (and especially if your parents' did) you're going to be taller.
And then there are the growth hormones in food and what have you.

The first thing you need to do to be happy is to stop giving a shit. Read this.
You keep talking about your height as flawed, imperfect and even a failure. Wrong. The only thing that's flawed is your attitude. The good thing is: you can change your attitude. Having a negative mindset is way more offsetting than being somewhat shorter than average. Most people really don't care about how tall you are.
Society's "expectations" are complete bullshit. Everything you see in the media about how you should look and behave is bullshit. How many people actually fit all "criteria" ? Most people don't. The ones who do try to act and look like society's "expectations" end up looking like idiots. Take a look at the graph in this article. Now look where my height is. It's not even included. When I have to care about all that stuff I'd probably end up depressed. Height is only one aspect of who you are, there are many, many more things that matter.
You need to change your attitude and your way of thinking. YOU need to do it, nobody else can do it for you. No tall girl can make your feel loved and more confident. It's you who needs to get out there and get shit done.
Ok what precisely is the fraction then?
Edit: fine, here is the proof, corrected for shot angle.
If Sultan is 98" tall, short guy is 70" tall in this frame of reference or ~5'10". So yeah I guess I was within 5%.
Hence, the optical illusion.
I totally agree man.
I really love seeing these pictures (not for science, trust me ladies) because it's just like you said: it would be so much fun to go out with them! I mean I just don't see women this tall where I'm at, and the only 6' girl I know has a boyfriend (mfw when I learned that), so seeing these tall ladies gives me hope that one day I can find one!
And in addition, I really dislike hearing these stories about how they were made fun of because of how tall they are! Those guys who are 6' and under have no appreciate for beauty, and hopefully women here are OK with having their confidence boosted by guys saying they're attractive in a non-creepy way (remember: keep it non-creepy guys)!
Keep it up ladies of /r/tall, you're fucking gorgeous, and I hope to be lucky enough to meet one of you one day!
I once found myself having to grab a journal paper that was so old it hadn't been committed to the digital age.
There I was, into the bowels of my university library looking for this journal. I found the letter before it. I found the letter after it. After some confusion I looked up and behold! My journal at the very top!
Off I went to find a dalek since the very act of having to look up assured me I'd never reach it. Following a successful hunt, I proudly stood atop the dalek... to find I still couldn't reach it.
With a heavy heart I traveled back to the help desk and announced my need for a tall helper. One was found and we set off on my quest for the journal paper.
On completion of the task the tall helper exclaimed how happy I had made their day, that their tallness was a force for good.
TL;DR
Couldn't reach a journal paper at the library, asked for a tall librarian and they said I had made their day for needing their height.
I picked up this TETON Sports Celsius XXL -18C/0F Sleeping Bag, Green, Right Zip and have been extremely please with it. I am 6'4" 250, but feel like i am swimming in it when i climb in and for the price it is hard to beat. Plus no hassle Amazon return if you dont like it.

I hooked 2 of these together to gain some height. This model has locking positions so it can hold the weight of a bigger shower head without sagging like some friction based ones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TB6J167/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's a sci-fi video game from Bioware (who also recently made Dragon Age) with strong shooter and RPG elements. 89% Metacritic rating, with excellent story and gameplay. Mass Effect 1 and 2 on Steam are currently $40 together. In Mass Effect 2, Tricia Helfer does voice acting for your ship's AI, and Yvonne Strahovski is one of your human allies. I'd highly recommend it.
LPT: If your showerhead is too short, the one they sell at Costco (Waterpik handheld) adds about 8 inches to the height of your shower. When I moved and the shower was hitting my in the neck, I bought one for $30 and it made a huge difference. I have been telling all my tall friends, which includes you wonderful people.
There are worse things to get a headache about than thinking intensely about boobs. Though, I can't say I think of them often from such an engineering standpoint (other times include pondering their buoyancy, their natural frequencies and mode shapes{forward/back, side2side, circles, combinations thereof}, and how they change shape based on their orientation in space and the relative arm position). I'm going to weird someone out some day! Or they'll be totally cool with it! Now I get to ponder boob tape-molding, though this time, since I'm not at work, I can look up some examples so I'm not working off this concept.
You sound like a masochist! haha I realize I am presuming, but I would like to say that band-aids hurt differently based on how much hair comes out with them; my nipples aren't hairless, a fact I didn't "correct" when pondering tape removal. I always assumed that women took off their heels and either went barefoot or wore flats once the intros were complete. Seems kinda silly to put yourself through such extended discomfort for aesthetic reasons. Then again, different societal/personal standards for different genders.
Well, I'm off to go hurt myself so that I might become beautiful, too! jk I'm too good at avoiding pain!
Edit: Boob tape is an entire industry!! "Moderate"ly sfw
This NPR article explains why BMI is bullshit, and why applying this measurement to an individual person is pants-on-head stupid. Sorry your doc is giving you poor advice.

I had had my eye on a Ford Fusion. I made an appointment for a test drive and everything. Went there. Didn't fit. Car salesman gave me a sympathetic pat on the back.
Went with a 2012 Honda Accord EX instead, partially because I was driving a '97 Accord LX at the time and I fit in that fine, but also because it was on this list. It's also good for short drivers if my 4'11" mother ever needs the car. The seat and telescopic steering wheel moves everywhere. I got a good 3" head room. Though I suppose it wouldn't be too comfortable if you're over 6'8" or so (it has a sunroof you can stick your head out of?). It's also a sedan but it's as roomy, if not moreso, as my mom's SUV.
I keep small tools/gadgets on my keys and those become the fidget toy. Like an extendable pen

I've got a 10" span from pinky tip to thumb tip, and I guess I use the claw grip. I probably could benefit from a larger mouse, but I've had the same series of mice since high school, and I'm 27 now. While I'm not sure you can find the Logitech G5 anywhere in stores right now, there are a few places online you can get one. That series did go through a few changes, and while I'm not a huge fan of everything they've got on their store now, the Logitech G500 has and is serving me very well. I should note this is my third mouse from this line - the first one lasted all the way from freshman year of high school into senior year of college, the second one I had for a year and gave to a friend, the third and current one was a gift to myself in 2013. So far, so good! Amazon link if you're interested in seeing it, went for $70 bucks when I got it.
Edit: sorry, after looking at pictures, I'm definitely palm by default, but I think claw when playing shooters.
Older one gets, harder it is to gain height. Height in males usually increases up to 19 years of age while females grow up to 18 years approx. Height growth in the 20's (till around 22) occurs but is extremely uncommon.
Mindset: Believe and think positively that you 'will' and can gain height. Just following these steps without 'will-power may not work.

I love my Logitech G500s. 3.3 inch middle finger length and it's perfectly sized verging on too big. Been under heavy use since April 2014 and still working perfectly. Might want to look for another retailer than Amazon though, price there has gone up since I bought it.
Rejoice my brethren
They come in a 31X34 and 31X36. I have a pair of 34x38 and I am happy with them. They are a very dark blue and thickness that is reminiscent of raw denim though they aren't. They take a little breaking in, but with regular wearing and washing mine feel great and fit great. I am not sure about the other colors though as they aren't available at the 34x38 size.
Quick edit: This is of course if you are looking for jeans. Finding dress pants etc. is still a pain in the ass.
This smoke/CO detector has a 10 year battery, then you throw it away. Considering that 9V batteries are about $1.30 each, and you'd go through 20 of them in 10 years, it's actually not such a bad deal.
Perhaps you are looking for a panoramic clip on rear view mirror? Some thing like this. Just stick something in the back to angle it down.
I just finished painting my entire house, minus two rooms. Agreed, the pole makes the process go extremely quickly. That and this for the edges (saves from you having to tape) and this (so you don't have to load paint into a pan or stop and reload.
Step 1. Edge the entire area with #1.
Step 2. Attach the second link to a pole and it's amazing how quickly you can get stuff done. I didn't use tape nor a drop cloth. Got pretty professional results.

Ya that's what I've always heard at least, I know Michael Phelp's long torso/shorter legs are always mentioned as an advantage (I think he only has a 30 inch inseam as well and is 6'4''). Just googled and found this answer - https://www.quora.com/As-a-swimmer-is-it-better-to-have-a-longer-torso-or-longer-legs
I figured out how to do this if you don't mind sharing. I found the bar on this rack is high enough. I mean it could stand to be an inch or two higher, but it's good enough. Then get one of these which will allow you to lower your "assistance" as you progress. I did this for a few months and can do unassisted pull up on this rack now.
I highly recommend checking out Dr. McGill, if you have the means see one of his certified therapists.
Here is a good article I read just this AM.
I had back pain from my early 20s. Herniated at least 2 discs, I think 3. Ended up having surgery for a severely herniated disc 5 years ago (had been seeing a chiropractor and I think he was responsible for the FINAL big herniation...stay away from chiropractors).
Unfortunately enough, I had this book before all that happened and looking back, had I READ it and followed it I think I would have avoided surgery and the nerve damage I have as a result. Seriously, get the book NOW. It will massively help you.
Lessons I've learned -
-Don't sit all day, get a standing desk, move around
-MOVE. But get a trainer / PT and learn good form. You can do strength training! You just have to learn to do it right and work with your body
-stretch, refer to the book I recommend above. I do cat/cows every night before bed.
-Be conscious of how you are feeling. Don't lift heavy bend a lot first thing in the am. Give your discs/back time to warm up for the day
Back off but don't stop moving if you feel in pain. Lying down won't help in the long run.
But seriously, check out McGill and definitely get the back book, its cheap and super helpful. I still refer to it if I feel like I've tweaked something. He also makes a neck one too.
You CAN feel better!
how about a folding cot that is also a chaise lounger? Your feet might hang over the end, but your head would be supported. like this one

The photo shows a nice all-in-one unit. But tall showerees can achieve the same result, without a new installation, (eg. in a rental) with components:
I used these:

I am a huge fan of the brand Reformation, however, I learned from Poshmark that while their pants are tall friendly... their short dresses are NOT. I got this dress for a steal on PM but it came in and I was like “wow. Can’t wear this without tights. but I recently ordered this leotard with shorts off Amazon and the leotard shorts work with shorter skirts and you can wear the top as-is or use it like an undershirt. It’s most likely going to be a summer staple for me.
You’ve got great legs! Show them off and enjoy those glorious legs in that cute skirt!!
I recommend the Lazarus clubs they sell on Amazon. I got those when I was 13 and 6’2” and learning to play. You obviously might need the longest shaft. I’ll link it for.

Sounds like your cars a bit too small, or the seat is up too high. I have a Chrysler 300, and I have no issues with seeing out of the windshield. However I also can't recommend this thing enough to help with seeing lights and stuff with having to lean way forward.
I work for a large engineering firm and the ergo department gives us these chairs. I liked it so much I bought one for my home office. Its not the perfect chair by any means, but everybody at the office likes them and I do too. Keep it on a watch list the price fluctuates wildly. I bought mine for 179 on amazon, my daughter paid almost 300 for hers and I see its now at 400.
I’ve never met anyone that didnt like this chair. I am 6’5 280 and my range has been 260-320 while sitting in this chair. I sit in it at least 8 hours a day, every day.
I wear these and they have done me well. I wear a size 16 shoe.

If that's your daily shower Just spend $25 and change your life.
If they're spending a lot of time at a desk, you can buy different gas cylinders for office chairs to change the adjustable height range. They run $20-$40 on Amazon and are a quick install.
For seating in general, focus on the depth of the seat as much as the height. Adjustable arm rests are also quite nice since tall arms tend to be off-ratio from average arms.
Adjustable desks are nice (either manual or electric) but you can also make tall desks by using other pieces of storage furniture (Kallax for example) as legs and adding short, adjustable risers.
There's not much to be done about kitchen counter or cabinet heights, but you can have them use the tops of cabinets as storage, since they can reach them.

This is hard to say for me. I'm a special case. I have PCOS which fucks up a lot of stuff. One of the things it does is increase androgen and lowers estrogen. But it also makes you heavier.
So in my case the weight and being the tallest woman in the family might tie back to my condition.
My brother was heavy his whole life too, he topped out at 6'1". But we're both taller than our parents. Dad 5'10" and mom 5'8".

I would try most anything from Honda or Toyota. I had a 2009 Yarris that I fit in wonderfully. It's often a question of the center console - if it's got a huge and obtrusive center console, you won't fit in it.
Avoid Jeeps. Most Fords have the worst leg room of anything i've ever driven (on average) and Chevyies are a "take it or leave it" sort of situation.
Again - Hondas and Toyotas. You'll never know untill you actually go to a car lot and "try them on" though. You've got to actually SIT in them and make sure they work. It's a burden we all must bear.
I USED to go by the annual consumer reports list here but i'm reading that MY car is among the 10 worst. I'm a giant, and I fit in my yaris great. How can it be among the 10 worst?

I don't know what else to do, women just straight up wont change and then you have guy like the dummy I just argued with who got frustrated and blocked me while calling me a "hobbit" for talking out against prejudice. What are we going to do, ask people "nicely" to stop hating short men? The stuff women say about short men is already WAY more hateful than shaming women who act in this way in the first place.
I was similar in high school, about 6'3" then and skinny, 155 lbs. Couldn't dunk. But a month of using strength shoes, I was dunking no problem. Something like these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F96NFKC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_NYNE9HD9M483KRFV174G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Fix the scale.
On another note, I recommend reading the book called How to Lie with Statistics. It goes into how people use these types of distortions to manipulate data.
my chair is plenty tall for me, i can actually rest my head on the head rest. here it is
similar to this?
That book is more "these are the facts. how are you going to deal with them?" than "here are real-life experiences and how people got through them," though.
Just kidding. I enjoy kickball and watching every one in the outfield move back. Then I run up, give the ball a small polite nudge with the big toe and run like hell.
Well... studies actually show that taller men have a bit more sex partners than average height men. Only very short guys (<5'5) have visibly lower chance to get laid. https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Height-and-Body-Mass-on-the-Mating-Market-With-of-Frederick-Jenkins/cb5c2960b82d63b9fee56f8650699c40f2085702
Yikes. Ok. Well mark that one off then.
edit:
I didn't get any odd behavior when I visited. I went back and ran the site through Norton Safe Web and came up with this. So that's weird.
I am a heavy fella, and frankly, i wouldnt be upset if i was asked to wear a paper bag on my head, i aint much to look at.
I wish i could say i have a great personality, but really unless you like sarcasm, black humor, and politically incorrect jokes, most of them aimed at myself, we wont get very far relationship wise.
That being said, i fucking HATE when women rag at me about not liking OBESE women...its not that i am shaming them for being fat...i am about 40 pounds overweight (using the outdated BMI system, but most people cant tell i am over weight, i just look out of shape, with a dad-belly. Weight distribution makes the difference, also i am very broad shouldered).

I dont find obesity to be attractive, especially in cases where the person makes no effort to lose weight, chalking it all up to 'bad genetics', because if they cant be bothered to make their body healthy, how can i expect them to try and fix a small issue in our relationship?
I mean Bad genetics nothing. I've got bad genetics. most of the men in my family have their first heart attack around age 30 (i turn 30 this year) and die from cardiac related issues around age 50, or if they are unlucky, live to their 70s losing more and more brain/heart/liver/kidney function with each year, until at the end they are oompa loompa orange with jaundice and missing body parts from infections related to heart surgeries...You know what i dont do? Smoke and drink, and i get a lot of cardio exercise in, and see my doc regularly to monitor my health, so i can avoid that shit.

And another thing! sitting there and being told by a 380 pound, 5'4" woman-child that she will only date men 6' or taller, who are in good shape, and when she fucking LIED on her Match.com profile about EVERYTHING (fake picture, fake everything) is just insane.

Sorry for the rant, that last paragraph can tell you how my fucking day went today...
I really wanted to do something similar this for match.com where I would write a web crawler and figure out what heights preferences are between men and women. Looks pretty good for a basic stat project!
I’m 42 and 6’8” so I have to stoop too. Read this book, it changed my life.

I’m 6’6” and have used this chair for about 2.5 years, and have been happy with it. It is capable of several adjustments and the lumbar and neck cushions can be rearranged to help with the fit. I have had some issues with the upholstery flaking off in a few places, but I consider it a minor issue.

It looks like it's already a handheld shower. No need to mess with the plumbing. Just get an adhesive or suction holder for the sprayer. You know it doesn't have to go in the one attached to the pipe, right? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087X594FH/
I know most people are going to recommend the adjustable arms because they are easy and they work. But they eventually leak and they are just generally janky. If you are at all comfortable with using a pipe wrench, just get one of these. They usually come with teflon tape which will seal everything up.

I use KES shower heads for stuff like this. This one is my favorite because it's adjustable. You can slide it up or down
I've had one of these before and didn't really like it. I have these installed in all the showers in our house.
The lumbar adjustment is almost non-existent on the XL, though the EVO version is supposed to be better, but I have the 2020 version. That said, my back still feels pretty comfortable if I sit all the way against the chair. I’d suggest trying something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Back-Huggar-Standard-Black/dp/B088XYBZ52
My physical therapist recommended I use that specific lumbar pillow, I tried one and it was amazing, but I haven’t bought one for myself.
