Also, why can't I see the links in your post until I hover over it?
I have been having a lot of fun with Faeria! The last week or so had a few bad patches released that caused bugs for some people but I think most of them are fixed by now... if for some reason you try it out and it's buggy, just give a couple more days perhaps https://www.faeria.com/
> I realize this is a difficult combination to find in a game
Indeed. The only suggestion I have is Battle for Wesnoth. It's very polished but not for everyone.. I personally don't enjoy it very much but even then I have to admit it's a pretty good game, just not my style. Also it's 100% free, which is always a plus! https://www.wesnoth.org
My go-to game for android has been Neuroshima Hex!
It's fast paced and matches don't last long but it is also very random and has no online multiplayer so it is definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

This week it's Into the Breach, another turn-based strategy, that Epic Games is giving away. I had never played this one, but it might be fun to try it.
This game is a combination of deck builders with normal turn based combat games. You have tactical combat where you move your units around to get the best attacks but the attacks are actually cards. On top of that they have a really cool recycling feature where in order to get power ("mana") you must discard some cards.
The let's play above is of a demo available on itch.io
Interesting, while no official announcement has been released yet The Humble Store allows you to now pre-order Blackguards 2, and lists the release date as January 20, 2015. https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/blackguards2_storefront
We recently moved from a 3x3 grid to 5x5, opening more tactical possibilities.
Sessions are still shorter than any full roguelike out there. 10 minutes has you slaying beasts, casting spells, and finishing 3 quests to pass the gakteeper!
We also put in a new intro video, scoreboards, and a full unlock of the 35 hero roster for 10 bucks.
Message me with some feedback or join the discord and I'll give you this play pass for free. Thanks reddit!

Familiars Guild
"a turn-based-strategy rpg where you team up with magical animals. Explore castles and towns, recruit to build your party, and enjoy deep tactical cover-based magic on hexagon tile battle maps. Inspired by games such as XCOM, Jagged Alliance, Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and Disgaia. This deep procedural roguelike-tactics hybrid features beautiful 3d graphics in the low-poly flat shaded style. I've written 35+ games, mostly small gamejam experiments. My intention is to take my time and polish this game to perfection over a period of about a year."
Cohorte for Windows and Linux.
"an isometric tactical with some role playing component which takes place in a medieval fantasy universe. You must recruit and advance your units, buy and equip items and of course win battles against various enemies. Under certain conditions you can unlock and recruit new units with specific skills."

Uniwar new Ranking System
"We heard your complains about the unreachable and inactive elite players staying at the top. It will be a thing of the past! No more highly ranked players resting on their past victories!"
"Players above 2000 and inactive for 10 days will lose up to a significant percentage of points. Creating a ranked game with random opponent will mark a player as active. For more fairness, ranked games will always create a 2nd 'mirror' game where races and positions are swapped."
"In these times of intergalactic violence, we will bring more honesty to the ladder. No more highly ranked players trapping others in unfair custom games. The custom games will always be unranked. No more ranked games vs Bots. No more ranked games using 3 or 10 mins."
"This reform focuses on rewarding active and fair players."
Card Hunter - It's their birthday and they are inviting you to their party! This weekend free leagues, free chests and loot fairy fun. http://www.cardhunter.com/2014/09/join-our-birthday-celebrations/
Definitely try Battle for Wesnoth it's opensource so it's free. The Banner Saga Trilogy is also good, it's got beautiful art and an engaging story. You can get it for cheap when it goes on sale, the first part went for 5$ the last time I saw it.

Hello everyone, I have made my first turn based game. This game has 2 modes and 5 levels in it. The game is played on a 9 by 9 grid like Sudoku. This big 9 by 9 grid is divided into 9 smaller 3 by 3 grids (local board). The first player to win one of the 9 available local boards wins the game. Though the game is challenging, it is possible clear all the levels for all the modes. Have a nice day.
Thank You.
Small War seems to fit the bill: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.GrumpyGames.TheSmallWar It's very loosely based on 2048 mechanics, easy to grip, very deep gameplay, a lot of variety and replayability. Well thought out and balanced.
I played Small War on my phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.GrumpyGames.TheSmallWar I don't know if there are PvP matches, but the game is cleverly designed and well balanced, with a lot of depth and infinite replayability. One of the core mechanics is 2048 in disguise - only realized that after playing for an hour or so. You won't regret it!
Tactikon 2 is sort of a lite version of Advance Wars.
There's also a million variants of Pixel Dungeon out there, if you're willing to expand into roguelikes...
