I was using NordVPN on my laptop when watching the games. A good rule of thumb is to try viewing while connected to the newer servers as those might not be banned or blacklisted. On Nord the new servers have higher numbers in case you didn't know
I believe phones and tablets use the GPS of the device to see where the user is located - where as Computers have to rely on IP alone. Maybe try on a laptop or computer and hook that up to your TV via HDMI?

Also ESPN and other services know popular VPNs as they usually use 'shared' public IPs when you connect. If you use NordVPN for example and select a Server in LA - your public IP will be in LA but that same IP will be displayed for many others that connect to that server. They look for that public IP and know you are connected to a VPN - so block it. Your VPN service will also likely sell what they call a 'streaming' ip or something similar where it gives you a more unique static IP (not known to be associated with the VPN service publicly). This would be harder for the service (espn netflix etc) to know is a VPN and therefore block.
I use NordVPN. Price is slightly higher than some VPN options, but I’ve found their servers to be reliable and fast enough to stream video in HD. They also have tons of servers, so if one happens to be blocked there’s hundreds of others you can use. Definitely would recommend as far as VPNs go.
I used ExpressVPN on my Amazon Firestick. Should also work on a computer/phone.
Connected to the "New Jersey" Server. Customer Service also said "Los Angelas 2" should work.
Streamed ESPN+ with no issues.

I like Private Internet Access (PIA) but there are probably others that provide more regional options. Timbers matches, for better or worse, are shown in a lot of places, making the blackout restrictions harder to dodge.
Just as an FYI they have a bundle option for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. I think it's 13.99/month.
Good luck dude. However in my humble opinion, if you're this serious about needing to go to the game you may as well just fly down.
At a little under 2000 miles round trip, say gas averages $2.50 (pretty generous as CA is often more expensive), and a car getting 30 mpg - safe to say at least $80 in gas. Maybe $50 if you manage to roll 3 deep. As fun as road trips can be, 3 or more people for that long (one of whom is a stranger, even though I'm sure you're a cool guy/gal) can be brutal. Especially on the return leg. Add in food, parking, and whatever extra costs you have, I'd say spending $100 minimum is pretty likely.
The drive itself is gonna be 25-30 hours round trip, with maybe a 15-20 hour difference in travel compared to flying. Now I'm not saying you would, or even should, but you could work at $7/hr under the table and pocket that hundred bones. Either way, time is money.
You can find any number of flights on google for around $180-200 and you could probably even fly Sunday-Sunday if you needed to. If you need to stay the night, crash out in the airport. Or the beach (only semi-kidding).
Anyway like I said man good luck on your journey. I just think if you absolutely must make it for this match, you really might as well just fly. I've been in your spot quite few times before and it's always been worth it to spring for it.
I have been using ExpressVPN and honestly love it and allows me to use it on my phone as well. It’s one of the more expensive VPNs but I have had zero problems with it. I set it to San Fran and don’t change the location at all and never get on the internet without it turned on. I’m not a tech wizard but that has been working for me.
I used VyperVPN on a router running DD-WRT and had nothing but problems. Multiple services failed entirely instead of just showing me a blackout. Privacy consultant Michael Bazzell recommends a pfSense box running PIA (mentioned up thread): .
The problem with the most smart devices is that they use location services. Your best bet would likely be to plug your computer into your television. But at that point, you might as well not go through the headache of installing a VPN on your router and just run a VPN on your computer. If you’re looking for something small, I would buy an Intel NUC and run a Linux distro on it.
Personally, I’m really happy with ExpressVPN on my devices and my AmplifiHD mesh network running its stock OS.
Maybe a VPN? I’m in Europe and watch the games using ExpressVPN to connect to a server in Boston, then stream via ESPN+. No issues with it so far.
NordVPN is good too. IPVanish is cheaper and works for ESPN+.
Sorry if we’re not allowed to talk about stuff like that on here. I didn’t read the rules before responding.
Hypothetically, you could pay a few dollars for a VPN (Private Internet Access is a good one). Then you can watch it from "Canada" or "Texas". I have hypothetically watched every game on mls live this way.
TunnelBear + Laptop + HMDMI Cable Out to TV = Blackout Problem Solved.
Also - MLS Live is great for other reasons. I like watching other MLS games, and it archives every one going back years. Also, it has a highlights package and "condensed games" for each game, which are nice if you want to catch up on what's going on around the league but don't want to invest 2 hours to see a game.
If you're an MLS fan, it is well worth the $65 a year.
i can use google drive but i uploaded it here: http://www.filedropper.com/fulltimberscelebrationrally12-8-15
it worked for somebody else so try and download that first. if it doesnt work i will upload it to google drive.
It’s not cheap but the best option I have found so far is ESPN+ with ExpressVPN that I am able to cast from my laptop to my TV for games that are on Root and then I use Hulu live for the rest of the matches. I tried using streams I could find on the internet for awhile but got frustrated with the lack of quality and feeling like I had to constantly refresh my page so I decided it was worth spending the money to not have to stress over missing parts of each match to unreliable streams.
I have tried all sorts of things and nver had it work. I am convinced ESPN+ is using the zip code off of my credit card billing address to black me out. The instant I log in, I am screwed. If I don't login before I turn on the VPN, then ESPN+ "Can't authenticate [my] account" and I get a blank screen. ExpressVPN has lost the arms race to ESPN+
Most of them have downloadable clients for whatever OS you’re using. So you can just download the client for whichever VPN you choose. Install it, then start it up. They generally have a server picker, where you can pick which country/state/city you want to run through. I tend to pick DC or NYC. Once it’s on, open Chrome and start browsing.
As a bonus, Netflix changes what shows are available based on the country you’re in. If you’re into something like Star Trek Discovery, the episodes show up on Netflix every week in Europe.
Here is a step by step guide someone wrote online. It uses ExpressVPN, which I used for 3 months last season while traveling. It works pretty well.
Pretty sure that's wrong. The applications are just front ends that make the connections easy for lay-people. Eventually, the services identify the older VPN IP addresses. I've noticed ExpressVPN has worked for me lately. They probably updated their IPs.
I use ExpressVPN to my Roku but I had to ask here which server to connect to. I’m not using an app on my computer or iPhone but rather pointing my router to server so my entire networks looks like it’s in a different location. Once I got the right server I had no problems at all.
I’m not a networking wizard so please correct me if I’m wrong... ESPN, Netflix, Hulu, etc know when you’re connecting through an app so they can block that. It’s more difficult when your network looks like it’s in a different city.
funny i subscribed to NordVPN too just for Saturdays game. I could never get it working, I'll have to try the server listed in the comments next weekend. The streams people had on reddit were so choppy.
At the end of last season, I was using ExpressVPN on a Windows Laptop and connecting to "New Jersey", "Washington DC - 2" and "Atlanta" with success. Every once in a while I would have to try a new server when ESPN caught it as a Blackout game.
On Saturday I was using a new one called Mullvad VPN. I had never heard of, but saw good reviews. It gave me 3 hours of free VPN service, so I just set it up right before the game. I used the default US server, which I believe was New York and that worked as well.
What VPN do you use? I use NordVPN.
I will assume NordVPN uses some high level security and quality technology that goes unnoticed by ESPNs security detection. They don't know its a VPN!
I pay a yearly subscription yo NordVPN. There are some additional features and bells and whistles than your average VPN. It can be hard to justify paying another subscription, but they usually have a decent discount offer when you are a new customer. There's also a 30 day money back garentee, so really there's no risk if you don't like it.
Those two work fantastically for me. Or VPN and Kodi (installed in a FireTV, Nvidia Shield or even your smartphone, if you have android). If you get Kodi, you can watch the games installing Nightmare addon. Has worked for me without issues with ExpressVPN.
I live out in Estacada and it can be hard to get a signal. I tried several antenna with limited success but bought this one that works the best. I can always reliably get a KPDX signal now. U MUST HAVE Amplified HD Digital... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FVLXHYV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I used this with great success in the Army. (Since everyone stands, it’s easy just to attach to the back of the seat in front of me.) We just moved to 114 and I’m still figuring out the best setup.
Are you in seats or on a bench. Maybe try one of these if you’re in seats Arm Rest Cup Holder - Compatible with Many Tumblers (20/30 Ounce) and Most Other Containers with Tapered (Angled) Sides - for Wheelchairs, Scooters, Office Chairs, Stadium Seats https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NGJQ1R/
And while on the topic of quality stadium beverage convenience, I can’t recommend this enough.
Absolute perfect fit for 20oz stadium beers. You’re welcome.

My ex got the stretch cup holder, so I just started using this one Saturday. Attaches well to the front of the armrest, perfect fit for 20oz stadium beer. I should have snapped a pic but I did get a few compliments.
2 for $10 so worth a shot.

I could not pick it up, I had a mid level outside antenna pointed at the tower.
It's possible it was incorrectly positioned, but it shouldn't be this hard.

I did some digging around the other day for a friend, I think the best price you’re going to find on a streaming service that will have most of amount of games is with the Sling Orange + Blue: https://www.sling.com/service
Normally $45/month, but the first month appears to be discounted at $35/m.
Other than the handful of games on TUDN, which can be seen on Twitter for free like tonight, Sling Orange + Blue has all the channels most of the games will be on. EPSN 1/2 and Fox Sports 1. The service isn’t as comprehensive as some of the other similar services like YouTube TV or Hulu TV, but it’s also substantially cheaper and should cover you for this specific tournament.
I personally have YouTube TV, but they just raised the price to $65, so I’m probably dropping it after the tournament.
The right way is at the game in the Army.
Otherwise tall antenna to get KPTV/KPDX and cable or a service like Sling that carries those channels plus FS1, ROOT, and ESPN.
Sling in Salem should carry those channels. https://www.sling.com/programming/locals
Can't get imgur to work, but it's the big one on the left.
I just bought NordVPN. It has Vancouver, so at least the first match will be viewable. If Seattle is close enough (which I doubt), then all matches will be too.
This really sucks ass for all of us Timbers expats
I use both NordVPN and ExpressVPN and have used PIA, ProtonVPN, and in the past. I just checked all five them, and none offer a Portland server. They all, however, offer Seattle servers, which might be close enough.
My personal preference is NordVPN. While they did have a data breach, it was customer data. I used an alias, a unique username, email address, and password, and a masked credit card number, so I’m not worried if my info does get out in the world. You can try it out for $12 for a month, and if it works for you, you can get a year $96 ($7/month).
If you're still struggling with blackouts here's a sure-fire guide. On the left-side menu of NordVPN, under countries, right click the USA server option and change location from "fastest" to anywhere just outside of the region (Cali locations work well from Oregon)
Might not work from an iPad since it uses the iPad location, not the server location. Had the same issue last week trying to use my phone, missed the first half cause of it. Contact ExpressVPN customer service, they should guide you in the right direction.
I’ve said before in other threads, but I’ve had success with ESPN+ and a VPN.
I use Mullvad VPN. It’s 5€ a month, and doesn’t take any personal information when creating an account. You can use crypto to pay the 5€ for pure anonymity, but I used my CC. They also do 3 hour free trials or something like that, which is enough to get you through a game.
And ESPN offers a 7 day trial.
Yeah, PIA works too. I have no affinity toward any specific VPN. Mullvad is just dirt cheap compared to a lot, so I use it for the occasional blackout game.
Slickdeals often has decent VPN deals, but they are generally multi year subscriptions which I avoid in case the service stops being able to get around geoblocks and stuff.
I don't have experience in this exact situation, but at the end of last season I was living in Europe and used ExpressVPN on my Wifi only iPad to watch Hulu. Hulu is pretty serious about their region blocking so a lot of servers didn't work. But I reached out to their support team and they sent me a list of servers that specifically worked for Hulu.

I generally used a laptop for watching games (also using ExpressVPN).
I live in Central Oregon and can't get all of the games (yay, Bend Broadband). We've been using MLS Live with a VPN (NordVPN) and it is great! I'm sure ESPN+ will be good this year as well, you just need the VPN to get around the regional blackouts. Plus, if you torrent or anything, you really should be using a VPN anyways :-D
