People have been asking for multi-monitor support in Bigscreen for literally decades, and it's coming soon!
There's a bit of UI work and polish left, but I'm confident we can release this in a couple weeks. Join our Discord server if you want to help test an alpha build!
edit: You may have missed our November and December updates! We updated the UI, VR keyboard, Oculus Touch launch, animations for hands, and more.
We're currently working on multiplayer features, multi-monitor support, mobile support, new streaming technology, new cinema environment, and NDA'd stuff we can't talk about ;) I'm also personally spending more time hiring, which leaves less time for coding
December was a bit slow with everyone on holiday. Next update should be released on Friday. It'll be a new UI and new multiplayer features for desktop audio streaming and room admins.
p.s. we talk pretty openly about what we're currently working on in our Discord channel. That's how /u/Domitjen knows about the new update ;)
Hm I think u/aboba_ had a similar issue? We're looking into cursor stuff soon. It has been hard to replicate. If it happens again or happens every single time, can you email me with debug logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Can't wait for tonight's movie night! More info here: http://bigscreenvr.com/topgun
Important details:
Yeah that article was false... we never confirmed it, no one asked us if it was true or not...
We will have more news about movie events in a week or two, so check our Discord or our email list for more info
Can you email me the debug logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
And I’m curious if you have enabled Core 2.0 Dash. Can you try disabling and seeing if it improves the perf?
Someone else was having issues with KODI and it was because Oculus Dash was also running and blocking Bigscreen

> -keep your head in the same place for too long and the screen goes black..
wait wait wait, what? u/zaptruder, you too – can you send debug logs and provide more detailed info?
I've never heard of this bug before. Do you mean the HMD goes black? Or the desktop screen goes black? Are you on Windows 7?
> -It always requires me choose my sound and recording devices at every login
Are you on Vive and use a custom separate microphone and separate headphone? It's kinda designed to just support the most common use case, and I'm guessing we aren't saving custom devices that are changed after loading properly
There's a really important thing to keep in mind when playing non-VR PC games in Bigscreen, and more detailed info is here: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/games/anygame/
You don't want Fallout 4 to render at 120 FPS
Why? If you're maxing out Fallout 4, rendering at 120FPS, that's using 100% of your GPU. As you know, VR is ALSO very GPU intensive, and Bigscreen environments are like a "second intensive PC game" that you're trying to run at the same time.
We've always focused more on immersion and fidelity. For example, our environments have:
You need to make sure your game - Fallout 4 in this case - does not use 100% of the GPU, or you will struggle to see the game in Bigscreen in VR.
As some one else pointed out, it's very likely ASW (Async spacewarp). 100% of your GPU is being used for the game, so how can Oculus/Bigscreen render properly? Oculus/Bigscreen then drops to 45fps, which can explain why things seem even worse.
u/coderbenvr this is likely the same deal with Dark Souls, and really any other game
Crash logs would be helpful when you crash! http://bigscreenvr.com/debug You can chat with us on our Discord and drop in the crash logs there so we can help figure out what goes wrong
Yes and Yes.
SteamVR is fairly open with headset compatibility, and it's had Rift compatibility even back to the developer kits.
You can play non-VR games in a few different ways, one is a free virtual desktop program called BigScreen, and another is through SteamVR's cinema mode
That's really awesome!
Regarding GTA V, you can ask some members in our Bigscreen Community chat server on Discord. A bunch of em play GTA V and we recorded a GIF of them playing. They probably had to turn on vsync, reduce some settings, reduce resolution, and play in the Void environment.
Hmm thanks for reporting the issue, we are trying to replicate it. Do you ONLY see the bad performance when you enable 3D SBS? Or always when using Bigscreen?
Can you send us the debug logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
I love Big Screen but haven't done much gaming within it so can't help directly, although via its own sub I found a help guide which hopefully will help you. Link: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/gettingstarted/steamgames/
Edit: having looked more closely that probably won't be too much use in your situation, although alongside the sub, the steam community is pretty active and might yield more answers with a trawl :)
Edit 2 what the hell, paging Dr /u/d2shanks for pointers to relevant resources to help
I assume you're trying to do Remote Desktop streaming from your PC to your Go?
We recently added support for Intel QuickSync to do hardware accelerated video encoding on your PC even if you have a GPU like the GeForce 1030, which doesn't have NVENC as u/crimson__wolf pointed out.
Can you try the latest version on Steam? Do you have an Intel CPU?
If you still have issues, please upload your debug logs (from here: http://bigscreenvr.com/debug) into our Discord group (http://bigscreenvr.com/discord)
Hi, Bigscreen developer here. Can you email us with your debug logs and explain this issue/link to this reddit thread?
In the email, attach your debug logs which are found here: http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Bigscreen developer here. Could you & u/youthcom help us debug this? Need more info so we can fix these bugs.
Easiest way is to hop on our Discord and post in the "bugs" channel.
Or email us, with your debug logs found here:
C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Packages\Bigscreen.BigscreenBeta_vqt1f0w9fgs54\LocalState
Hey, dev here, send us your logs after trying to open a game when it freezes. The instructions for sending logs are here: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/faq/debuglog/
I have a feeling this is Windows 8 related, we'll have to see if we can fix it. Thanks for the feedback!
I was expecting a "but" or a performance issue :D
Thanks! Glad you're loving it. Lemme know if you've got feature requests or bugs or ideas! Join our Discord too if you want to hang with the wider Bigscreen Community
I actually think this is a bug with Bigscreen, not recentering related. I'm surprised reinstalling didn't fix it. Changing environments and changing seats is SUPPOSED to fix this... if changing environments doesn't solve this, can you email me your logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
You can try (right now) the alpha version of next week's Cinema Update on our Discord server http://bigscreenvr.com/discord
And if that crashes and has bugs, please post bug reports.
We're trying very hard to make this upcoming release really stable and polished
> Can I launch Steam and SteamVR games from it?
You can launch Steam games from Bigscreen, yes. You just have to disable the steamvr theater, or set Bigscreen as your default theater app in SteamVR's settings. Some info here: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/gettingstarted/steamgames/
Launching other SteamVR games might work too; Bigscreen would run in the background unless SteamVR shuts it down?
>Oculus would have to close the current app to launch another one, no?
Actually, Oculus now allows Bigscreen to run in the background even if you open up another Oculus/VR app like a game
Come alpha test our latest version of Bigscreen in our Discord chat server! It's got some significant improvements including a massive new cinema environment with this incredible new dynamic screen lighting and 40 NPC AI characters. I think you'll love it. It'll launch publicly to Steam & Oculus Home in less than 2 weeks if you're willing to wait for the public release.
We have a new update coming in a week or two that supports Nvidia Optimus laptops like your MSI GS63VR. Could you help us and test out this new update? We have an alpha version for testing in the Bigscreen Community (our Discord server).
You can do this today with programs such as Big Screen VR. I wouldn't recommend it for extended periods though as you'll strain your eyes looking at high contrast text on such (relatively) low resolution displays (in the headset).
Sweet, Bigscreen is the most popular software right now because of it's diverse ability, where it can play regular games really well, be all sorts of movie theaters, and become a multi monitor desktop environment.
No, I’m not talking about 360 videos, I would hardly call that true VR, also those videos isolate you completely while true VR theaters allow you to watch movies with friends and family and we all know socializing is a great aspect of cinema.
I’m talking about something like this it’s a fully 3D theater with a flat screen in front of you placed in different settings, ( you can use the size of the screen go as big as you can handle and you can watch in different locations like a grand traditional theater or an outdoors theaters and it feels like the real thing) this is a great type of VR apps that can be developed into something really special, like perhaps they build a live setting for the movie your watching to take to a level of immersion never felt before!
I'm not sure offhand what might be causing that.
Can you submit your debug logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug You can post them here, or if you want them to be private, DM them or email them to . If you email them, be sure to include your Reddit name and a brief description of your issue so that we know what the logs are in reference to, or link to this post.
Sound like it crashed.
I can't really even guess as to the reasons why though without more information. If you could link or post or DM your debug logs, that would help. http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Hi, this is a bug we're actively trying to fix. It would be helpful if you could send me your logs. http://bigscreenvr.com/debug will tell you where to find them, and you can send them to - if you link this reddit post in the email, that will tell me what the logs are for.
Hi! I'm one of the developers of Bigscreen. We used to post here all the time, but last year, we went a little quiet. We have been heads down totally overhauling Bigscreen with some massive new features that will be rolling out in a series of updates in the next 3 months.
In 2 weeks, we will be launching the Bigscreen Beta 2019 Update on PC (Rift, Vive, WinMR, etc.) and Android (Gear/Go) simultaneously. The biggest problems, bugs, frustrations you have had with Bigscreen Beta have been fixed in this update, along with some beautiful new features (some of which you can see in this video teaser above!)

I don't want to spill the beans just yet on the details of this update because it's too exciting...but I need your help! Please join our Discord and help us test this new Bigscreen Beta update. We plan to spend the next week or two testing this before releasing it to the whole world.

And in case you're not familiar with Bigscreen Beta, it's one of the most popular VR apps with hundreds of thousands of users. It lets you use your Windows desktop in VR, to watch movies in a virtual IMAX theater or play your fav Steam games in a virtual campfire. Bigscreen is also well known as a social VR app that lets you watch movies with your friends or have a virtual LAN party. Bigscreen is totally free and available on Oculus & Steam, with support for all the major VR headsets.
^(p.s. Bigscreen is now 4 years old :O)

What's up r/OculusGo! I'm one of the developers of Bigscreen.
I posted here last year because Bigscreen Beta was a launch title for Oculus Go. Since then, we have been quietly working to overhaul Bigscreen with some massive new features that will be rolling out in a series of updates in the next 3 months.

if you join our Discord and send us your debug logs, we can take a look. make sure your GPU drivers are updated, that's most likely the issue
I saw your other post. Even for this, need more information. What PC do you have? Do you have Flux or Night Mode turned on? Are there tons of errors in your output_log.txt debug log file? Location here: http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Email us your debug logs? Sounds like you have some sort of bug. The logs are here: http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Changing the stream resolution to 480p makes no difference at all in Singleplayer. That's only in Multiplayer and what you're talking about sounds like just using your screen locally in singleplayer alone by yourself, right?
Yes Nvidia Optimus is horrible for performance in Bigscreen due to the integrated GPU in the middle. But it should still work very well, as we properly added supported for Optimus laptops a year ago.
Can you send us your debug logs? http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Where are you located, who is your internet service provider? Do you have fast internet? Are you behind a firewall or a corporate network?
I went to the website to prove you wrong, but it seems they corrected the showtimes and you're right after all. I swear to you it said the first showing was December 28th at 6:00pm EST earlier.
While the responses in here are correct, I just wanted to point out that you should NOT do this with Bigscreen IF you want to stream your desktop audio to other people in a Multiplayer room. http://bigscreenvr.com/help/faq/desktopaudiostreaming/
This is one of my favorite SBS 3D youtube clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCZXMz0zmkI
Here are the buttons to click to watch SBS 3D videos in Bigscreen: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/gettingstarted/sbs3d/
Checking in again. What is this second curved screen? What do you see on it? We've had 2 people report this and not sure what you're seeing. Could you email us with your debug logs?
> There are plenty of Native Windows windows where my mouse cursor completely disappears and I can no longer interact with it. (One example is going into Windows control panel or Device Manager)
Can you give me a list of apps where it doesn't work? Any "UAC" elevated privilege application, like Windows Task Manager, will not work but that's because you didn't launch Bigscreen as an elevated privilege application. If you are launch any application that has elevated priveleges, you must right click on Bigscreen.exe and hit "run as administrator" so that Bigscreen is also an elevated app.
The app should be exiting cleanly (works fine for 99% of people). Is the crash happening every single time you try to exit? If so, can you send your debug logs?
Need more info to help you!
> Is it normal for the "tablet" not to update in multiplayer (shows only the settings page), while the menu UI on the screen does?
Yes, that isn't streamed/synced, just a static image
> Both of us had audio mirroring on (not that I needed to use it), only my end wasn't working (I could hear the other end though).
Oculus Audio Mirroring interferes with Bigscreen's desktop audio streaming. Voice chat dropping could be fixed by either mute/unmuting the mic, or by reconnecting to the room. Sorry bout that bug. If it does happen again, can you email me your debug logs immediately as it happens?
> I find joining a private room by entering a longish room ID to be quite annoying, especially when pasting isn't possible (?). Is there plan for adding friends to a room (esp. private) like many Oculus games?
Working on this stuff over the next couple months, I know it's not the best way right now
> BTW, I wish the new big cinema had an even bigger screen, in fact, I wish the screen size was customisable (yes I know I can get closer). At the moment, I can't have a cinema that fills up all my FoV and at a far enough distance, except to use an environment like the Void.
If we make it any bigger, we risk earthquake hazards
Jokes aside, redoing the cinema isn't going to happen any time soon, but when in the Cinema, you can make your "personal screen" pretty big, way larger than your FOV, and move it pretty far away. That's not exactly what you're asking for, but close
If you're on the latest Nvidia drivers, you'll probably get better performance by rolling back. Their latest one is supposedly really bad.
Check your debug logs (http://bigscreenvr.com/debug) -- do you see a massive file with tons of errors? Or just a few kilobytes?
Crap! I've only seen this error a couple times on my machine and I have no idea why it's happening.
Two things. First, please help us fix this! Send us your debug logs and I'll see if there's an obvious error in there: http://bigscreenvr.com/debug
Second, when you start Bigscreen, you should see the UI also on your desktop. Just start typing your name and hit enter. Then the continue screen should disappear entirely.
edit: are you only using the public Oculus Home version? You haven't tried our upcoming version (10 days away), which is being alpha tested privately, right? Aka the "topsecret" version?
Don't use Internet Explorer or Win10's Netflix app, they have DRM. Use Chrome or Firefox to watch Netflix. more info here: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/faq/netflixwindows10/
Not sure if you can see 4K in Chrome? IIRC only Smart TV apps can stream Netflix 4K?
As the article mentions, Bigscreen will run on Windows 7 with this upcoming "Cinema Update" (the current public version doesn't yet support it)
You're welcome to help alpha test this update on your Windows 7 PC! It's privately being tested in our Discord community right now.
Do you mean VR games on Steam? Or non-VR games on Steam? If the latter, you may need to read this guide. Any specific VR games that break? You should be able to switch from Bigscreen to other VR games seamlessly (at least I can with Unity, VR apps I'm developing, and Bigscreen itself).
For people asking what the point is, games are moving toward multicore. Right now most (high budget, like CoD) games can fairly equally spread over about 4 cores no problem and probably more.
Personally I recently had to install a cooler and overclock because a certain VR game (bigscreen) was maxing all 4 cores.
In Bigscreen each person that joins the chatroom has their own cpu thread so the more cores the more people would be possible. Streaming everyone's PC is very intensive.
We've been silently testing this in public for a couple days. You may have received it if you're on the beta/alpha channels, yes.
What do you mostly do in Bigscreen? If you'd like, join our Discord and chat with some other people that regularly use Bigscreen a lot.

could you please email us your debug logs after Bigscreen crashes? stuck and can't figure out the bug. the logs will help greatly
Here's how to find your logs: http://bigscreenvr.com/help/faq/debuglog/
In your email, please include when these crashes started occurring. November? after December 9? or after January 18?
