Should be simple enough. Throw together a ping group and schedule movie dates with https://kast.gg/, people can discuss schedule either in the DT or in a discord server, maybe also include a google doc so people can view upcoming schedule
Oh that makes a lot of sense. I'm sorry to hear that.
Do you both have a good internet connection? My friends and I sometimes use https://kast.gg/ to watch tv or sports together over discord. Maybe you can watch some shows together.
For this sort of usecase I used to turn to rabbit.
Though rabbit has since unfortunately been discontinued and replaced by kast.gg which seems to be operating in a similar manner, though I haven't tried it myself.
If kast is at all like rabbit used to be, it should fulfill all your needs as far as real time voice chat while watching goes.
There used to be a website called Rabb.it. Seems it is taken over now by Kast https://kast.gg/download.html.
I'm sure there are more sites rather than apps where people can group watch.
I'm game.
Better suggestion: Kast (formerly rabb.it). It's a streaming service that let's one party host a show via a remote web browser broadcast to everyone in the room with text, voice, & video chat built in. It's so much better than the hassle of trying to sync the start time of your shows via Skype, losing sync to buffer issues on one end, etc.
I work for one of the Rabb.it alternatives, Kast. I would be happy to have you give us a try Kast.gg We have been getting some great feedback from other former Rabb.it users. You can use the service to share your browser for youtube videos or stream directly from an application on your computer. I hope that helps.
Thanks for starting this thread, glad to see this community looking forward to the future.

The other day I tried discord app streaming and it worked *ok* but I ran into an audio challenge on the Mac client where I couldn't just route the video's audio to the call. I'm sure its solvable and it seems like the PC client doesn't have the same issue. The advantage I see in using discord is you can keep track of all your contacts in the same place, link up rooms with the appropriate servers/interests, and its pretty easy to onboard new people. The downside is you're sharing your local machine so you do need a decent upload speed & I think the number of viewers is more limited. Pervs with gaming experience can probably comment better on this.

Yesterday I also tried Kast.gg which seems OK as well but the big downside is you've got to use the Mac/PC client and it doesn't really seem to offer anything discord wouldn't - except it also doesn't have the existing username & communities.

In the open source / community funded side of things, https://getmetastream.com looks interesting but I'm not sure it's really ready for primetime yet. Although with Rabbit going down I imagine development will pick up pace.
Y'all should take a look at Kast :)
It's a free app that allows video/audio sharing for many users in a channel.

It's really easy to use and management and dev teams are great to work with! :)
Check out https://kast.gg , we have the ability to stream a select tab in Chrome by using the 'application' tab when you select your source, then you can use Kast over the top without affecting the streamed window/tab.
Check out https://kast.gg
It allows you to set up a lobby, live stream from your PC and if you want you can make it private and just send the links to whoever you want. I find it works pretty well.
it's about a harasser who claimed that a party streaming site called rabb.it (now known as kast.gg) is related to child abuse, and claiming that NExpo is related to rabb.it and thus that he is a pedo... i'm currently still watching the thing, but from the intro, which more-or-less summarizes it, NExpo did some investigation and found that she may or may not be projecting, heavily.
Try out https://kast.gg/ (the direct successor to the venerable rabb.it service), lets you host watch parties from either a PC or your phone iirc. Basically zoom calls with a focus on outgoing video quality (for the movie).
Also Netflix streams can be run from your browser on PC just fine, although obviously it won't be as nice watching on a smaller monitor compared to a TV.
I don't mind rewatching Grisaia but the problem is Discord, if you want to simulcast then do it on Kast.gg or something, because simulcasting on Discord is bad. It lags even with good internet.
Trying to do one desktop/laptop and one mobile is going to be tough.
If not on mobile, there's more options like:
There was a service Rabb.it that was pretty good for sharing video, but it shut down last year. Looks like it was rebranded(?) as Kast and changed a bit. Apparently it has desktop app, web app (limited), and mobile apps.
steam has screen sharing apps, https://kast.gg/download-r.html is the new thing since rabb.it died I guess, and if you have VR there is an app on steam called BigScreen Beta where you can share your desktop in a virtual theatre/room/campfire/etc. It's pretty cool.
https://kast.gg/download-r.html which used to be Rabb.it lets you sync what you are watching with your friends so you can all watch at the same time.
Twitch
Join the Arizona Discord and see if anyone wants to have a virtual watch/game party. I know they video game with each other over there. The link is in the side bar under Live Chat.
Jo2797 has the right idea about rabb.it but it got taken down and then brought but https://kast.gg/ so you might have to have a look around there website
What me and my friends do is get discord, make a private call in discord and then screen share and watch movies that way. another option is just do a countdown to start and stop at the same time
Hello u/popcornisDead, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
my thoughts is kast.gg possibly not working properly yet.
I have downloaded the program
and like you it is confusing and there are channels that just
got stucked in connecting
and if they succeed to connect I video is static
and I hear people talking .
Really hard to use it.
(sigh) subpar substitute for rabb.it
I wonder if they realize if they do not make Kast.gg 17 plus right this second.... they just legally fucked themselves....I am thinking not wanting to wear the t-shirt or fund the stupid would be a great idea

I think you need to find another way to spend time with them then. I know that it’s awesome to be able to bond over a game together, but if the game isn’t working for you anymore, and these people really care about you, you can find another way to hang out online with them. If they’re still enjoying Overwatch, then it shouldn’t replace that for them, but there are tons of other games out there.
You could also use something like Kast to hang out while your friends are playing, or have watch parties for movies or TV. (Disclaimer: I have never used cast, but I really liked Rabb.it, and Kast has apparently acquired some of the pieces from the Rabb.it rubble.)
Apparently Kast has taken over Rabbit- I'm checking them out right now but it may be a good option. Other options include Discord server streams via screenshare, Google Hangouts, and a VLC media server hosted on your pc (depends on your internet speed). I think Kast.gg is your best bet atm. I'll follow up and let you know what I'm switching to!
SyncLounge will search all of the Plex servers each client has access to for media equivalent to what the host is playing, for what that's worth. So you're all set if the other users already have the same content available from somewhere else. Sneakernet is also an option, if they don't but would be OK running a local PMS for themselves.
I remember Rabb.it, and it looks like there's an alternative that I haven't tried yet. It's called Kast. It looks nice, at least.
In general features like that are made as browser extensions, since content holders don't allow other sites to embed (or serve, in any way) their content.
See Netflixparty, Scener for examples of how it has been implemented as a browser extension for Chrome.
There is also Kast (previously Rabbit) which is a screen sharing service originally built for watching stuff together. Kast has explicitly stated in their terms that sharing stuff like Netflix is disallowed (as the user streaming has no rights to redistribute the content).
That is all i can think.
I usually use Kast most of the time when I'm watching anything with my gf, especially anime. It's pretty sweet, might be a hassle to set up initially sometimes (at least for me it was), but once you have the room all set up it's pretty straight forward. Someone streams, others join to watch pretty much
Did Kast buy Rabbit?
No, Kast bought certain assets of Rabbit. Unfortunately, Rabbit went out of business and had to layoff their entire staff. Check out this link to learn more: https://kast.gg/kast-acquires-rabbit-assets-press-release.html.
Rabbit has apparently been superseded by "Kast" which is essentially the same thing but still in development for the web version. They also have a downloadable desktop version.
I have done it with Discord, streaming my Vivaldi. For audio in Discord you'll have to use a Chrome-based browser and add it to your game library to get the sound going (Firefox isn't working at the moment, and it's kind of buggy overall; my friend couldn't get any sound output). If it works, you'll output sound from only the application you're streaming, which is handy.
I've also tested Kast.gg out and it seems to work with both Firefox and Chrome-based browsers, but I haven't had the chance to actually stream with anyone. It can output your computer's audio (so you'll want to mute everything else while streaming).
My main issue with either is that you can't fullscreen your browser and then open Discord/Kast, so the video image is pretty small. There are a couple ways to work around that:
- Without any extension, you can enlarge the video somewhat by (oddly enough) shrinking your VRV tab down as far as it will go.
-You can also use this Chrome extension to enlarge videos within your browser window, or this Greasemonkey script for Firefox.
I was going to watch it on-line tonight, i'm streaming it on Kast.gg if you want to watch. Here's the link to my page https://s.kast.gg/g/ravhnnraw0
Hey u/miki-123 would https://kast.gg work for you? Full disclosure: I'm an employee, but we're free, live, available on Windows and Mac (iOS soon(tm) ).
Check it out and let me know!
