I remember Toni Morrison being on Colbert or Stewart or something and she was talking about how she can't remember Beloved at all so she can read her own books as if she's her own audience, she definitely saw the silver lining in it. It's not insane to me because I'm 24 and my memory is so terrible I can definitely imagine writing a book and forgetting about it decades later.

He had a rough birth - he was stuck in the canal, head out, and the tongue was swollen and frost nipped. He's doing well now though, after they let his frozen stiff ears thaw and gave him a warm bottle. The mother won't let him nurse, but they think she just has a generic disinterest in motherhood since she likes everything else about him.

My cat absolutely loves the "BLOOP" sound so she started literally paw-shoveling the water out of her dish so she could hear it again and again. I had to take away the top part because she'd empty the whole gallon onto the floor.

Given the area's dry weather in late November, J-Tree seemed to be the obvious climbing location. During our first phone call, we simultaneously suggested Equinox as the climb. At 5.12c, this is a test piece in Southern California climbing. On a rope, Alex is a top climber. Without a rope (free soloing), he is in a class unto himself. If Equinox felt good with a rope, there was a high likelihood he would be up to free solo the climb. Again, much like Dane, if Alex did decide to free solo the route, we might only have one opportunity to capture the ascent. Obviously, the stakes are very high, when a fall could mean death. To our amazement, after Alex's first lap he announced "it felt good, actually pretty easy". He then proceeded to do it two more times in the last 20 minutes before the sun set. On the second day of shooting with Alex, the tables had turned. He climbed to the crux (the hardest section of the climb), fiddled with getting good finger jams, was not feeling it and backed down. After a 20 or 30 minute rest, he was back on the wall, did one lap and called it. I really value and respect Alex's ability to listen to his mind and body and not allow any external forces to influence whether he climbed again or not.

I put our test subject, Mr Jones in a comfortable harness with a very light GPS tracker on it. After the subject was placed in the harness, subject sulked for at least 20 mins by not moving from a flowerpot in the garden and miaowing lots.

The GPS tracker was set up to ping a server every 5 seconds with its location with an SMS. If there was poor mobile reception in an area, it would not send back data. It also sent back information on the subject's speed in knots and bearing, mainly so I can yell 'TARGET IS MOVING AT X KNOTS IN A BEARING OF BLAH BLAH BLAH MARK BLAH... TARGET HAS CHANGED SPEED AND HEADING, CAPT'N, I SUGGEST FULL CUDDLES AND SNUGGLES OFF THE PORT BOW'.

Interestingly, his territory is quite small, but he traverses a lot of ground. Also, he never crosses the road :D

For those who are wondering, the original video was posted as a Tiktok by a Chinese guy who seems to run some kind of commercial fishing business.

However this does not appear to be a turtle as it seems to be much bigger than any of the ones he's dug up in his vids.

Depending on availability, try going for the giant house-spider (video here). They are the fastest species compared to their size, while being big enough to induce arachnophobia in most people. I take care of my niece full time so it's like a daughter. She has done some weird things but here are some of my faves.

Last week I quit a well paying job and dropped my life savings on a farm. My guess is I've a 75% chance of things working out. When I was about 10 my grampa took me down to Rufus's house and ordered a bean shooter for me. Rufus made a new one for me that was small enough for my hands. He showed me how to use it and warned me to be responsible. I killed a couple of birds with it, and I still have the bean shooter at home and it is numbered around 1,500 I think. Rufus was a good and kind man. Also he was on the late show with Johnny Carson once.

Sand that is used to make glass is different from beach sand. A special mix of purified sand is used instead. Its mostly silica sand, which is made from quartz (one of the most common rocks on earth). You can see how very pure quartz crystals are similar to glass. The sand on the beach is mostly silica, but doesnt come from clear quartz crystal, and if you melted that sand down, it wouldn't be very clear at all.

Ok, my family has owned subways for, like, 25 years. I think I can clear this up. Wikipedia is correct. It did originally stand for Brooklyn Manhattan Transit. Then, for a marketing campaign, (sometime late nineties early 2000s?) it was changed. I remember when this happened because I worked there at the time. (And I remember getting the speech: "we will now tell customers it stands for bigger, meatier, tastier..."). I tried to find a picture of the original subway wallpaper--the one with the antique looking NY Transit map--the wallpaper even figured the B.M.T. line prominently. I can assure you nobody thought it stood for bigger, meatier, tastier back in, say, 1995.

The mother dying was sad, and him chasing his own shadow was sad. But neither hold a candle to that one scene that starts with the top-down view, showing his tiny footprints following all her old large prints. Then it goes to his level and shows him circling her old print, then rubbing his head along the edge while crying-- that's the part that kills me inside.

I was the student. My driving instructor used to say weird shit to me in the car and he got all handsy. He used to constantly say I looked like his wife. One day, he said I had "interesting ears" and started massaging the right one while I was driving. Another time, I was having trouble hitting the gas pedal properly, so he demonstrated how my foot should be touching the pedal by massaging my upper thigh. Towards the end of the semester, I was running for student president, and he told me to watch a movie called Election, which he said was "about a girl fooling around with her teacher." Anyone who has seen it knows that's not really the plot, but the parallels with us were striking. In the movie, Reese Witherspoon is running for student president, and her social studies teacher, played by Matthew Broderick, fantasizes about screwing her. He goes by Mr. M in the movie. Guess what my driving instructor's name was? You can see clips from the movie here. One of the last things he said to me was, "I made ice cream." I said, "excuse me?" He then clarified: "It's supposed to be I made YOU scream. Do you like that?" Somehow, I passed my road test.

We lose Bergkamp 2 years later but get literally the most sexy player in the universe as his replacement: Jari Litmanen.

Then the 94/95 season happens. A young squad, filled with academy talent going unbeaten in the league and winning CL, beating Bayern München (5-2) and the then biggest team in the world (Milan) three times on the way.Van gaal has the best moves ever in the final. The season after that we continue our european dominance, with a 0-2 away win vs Madrid in the most dominant Ajax performance I’ve ever seen. We could have scored 8 that day, and received a standing ovation by the Bernabeu. Unfortunately we strand in the final where we got beaten by Juventus.

After that all our good players left and I don’t want to write about that. I was still pretty young at that time but it was one of the best years of my life. My mum had choir practice at Wednesdays so it would just be me and my dad watching all those Ajax games together. Even the Feyenoord supporting kids in my school were Ajax fans that year.

It's probably a good thing /r/soccer wasn't around back then. I can't imagine what it's like to have so many delusional people in your fanbase as some EPL teams have here.
