Can you try Keka? It’s generally my fallback for archive problems. I have no idea why, but it’s been my experience that some archives don’t play nicely with certain unarchiving applications
I'm on windows and I use 7-zip, but there seems to be a good alternative - Keka. You'll have to convince the other person to download it too, but they can assemble multiple files into one large one.
+1 for The Unarchiver. If for some reason you need another suggestion, I've used Keka in the past. It's paid on the app store, but free to download from their own website: https://www.keka.io/
Thanks for your quick reply.
1TB secondary SSD on a MacMini - reformatted but only a few files written to it. Had one ~1Gb .7z archive file (password protected) consisting of an archive of chat logs and media. The archive was created with Keka, a Mac compression utility. I have the archive password.
I'm running Disk Drill (which I already had) on the drive and it has identified a series of .7z files (see pic). A few of these will successfully extract - but they are not the one I'm looking for. The rest give me a "header error." The scan is about 75% done, so it is possible that the rest of the scan will find other archive files. I'm also running free trial of "UFS Explorer Standard Recovery" and will see what that finds and will then purchase the full version to recover the files, if it looks promising.
Thank you for your advice.
I think you can Zip quite large files or folders. But it is gonna take longer than eatch project. Maybe use keka, bit neeter than apples.
I would personally recommend zip one project for itself rather whole folders of projects. Faster to download if you dont need everything, and faster to unzip.
I'd use an archiver app like Keka; but what you don't want to do is change the file type; keep them as .zip but open them with Keka; then go into your documents folder, Paradox Interactive, Crusader Kings and open the mods folder and insert the .mod files there. https://www.keka.io/en/
Couple of apps to get you started.

Vanilla - Hides menu bar items.
ToothFairy (App Store)- Lets you attach and detach Bluetooth devices simply.
Caffeinated (App Store) - Lets you easily control how the laptop sleeps (or doesn't).
Keka - Compress and decompress files.
iina - Video player.
Magnet (App Store) - Already mentioned.
Not attacking you, but the fact that you're using a Mac shouldn't impede you from opening those archives. The standard Mac program used for .zip files doesn't cut it for everyday use; I suggest either Unarchiver or Keka for future use. You can open .7z/.rar/.zip files with those (source: me).

As far at the actual file goes, I'll PM you.
I use Mac's steam version as well. I'm not sure how well RFC: DOC will work on mac, because mods with custom DLLs don't work on Mac.
I'd suggest downloading a software, such as Keka, that can open 7zip/rar files, then depositing the extracted files in /Library/Application Support/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/Beyond the Sword/Mods
or a similar directory. Then, load up the game and load mods like you normally would.
(If you don't know how to access the library, go to finder and hit the "help" tab on the very top of your screen (outside of any window). Then type "Library" and click the result with the same name. Navigate further until you find the last file in that string of code.
If it works, great! I'd like to play it with a friend of mine but I'm not sure how compatible it is.
If not, try looking around the CivFanatics forum for mods that don't use custom DLLs or are explicitly mac compatible. For instance, History Rewritten changes lots of aspects of the game and attempts to make them historically accurate, but doesn't have the timing of events or historical starts that RFC or its modmods has.
I use Keka to extract archives on my Mac: Free on their website or if you want to support them and get auto updates it's also on the Mac App Store: App Store
Just wondering, why no third party software? Sure macOS has a good foundation for apps and a lot of built in features, but it doesn’t exactly come with the kitchen sink for that 10% of power users.
I think the zip command-line tool does have commands for encryption, type man zip
into the terminal and see what options it has, or google the options.
Otherwise, I would highly recommend Keka for quick archiving with extra options (compression level, encryption). You can download without using the App Store on their site.
Keka is free, open-source, and not owned by MacPaw of CleanMyMac infamy.
Also, the Keka logo is an isopod, and I can’t not use a program with a cute isopod as their logo.
Lots of good options listed here. You really can't go wrong with doing it in Terminal.. however I'm partial to Keka.
One thing to try is to have them download the dropbox desktop app and use that to download the file. I believe if you download in a standard web browser it creates a .zip, however when using the desktop client it downloads files/folders without compressing them. I may be wrong about this, haven't used dropbox in a long time.
Drive link. Compressed with Keka, should uncompress to 531MB, let me know if there are any problems.
Vimm's Lair is a reliable site. This link should be what you want. It should be a .7z file, download Keka and extract it using these directions. Once the file is extracted, drag the .iso into OpenEmu and it should work it's magic for you :)
edit: changed software from 7zip to Keka, as 7zip is not officially on OS X.
If you're using a MacBook, you could use keka: https://www.keka.io/en/ Or if you can't install the version above for whatever reason (getting it from the app store is not free), you can always use The Unarchiver to open up the 7z file. It's free and can be obtained from the app store for free too. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-unarchiver/id425424353?mt=12
https://osxdaily.com/2013/02/13/open-zip-cpgz-file/
Basically try different unzipping programs

Not necessarily related, but I switched from Unarchiver to Keka a couple of years ago. I've been using the free version but apparently there's an update that costs US$2.99 which I am now going to buy...
extract as in from a .zip? p sure you can just doubleclick and extract, if not, install Keka and extract with that. Then just drag and drop the folder or files you need onto the SD card on the desktop, itll copy onto the card.
Try this? https://www.keka.io/en/ I don't know never used a Mac, I should inform you that Macs soon won't support many emulators do to getting rid of OpenGL support. So it may be best to move to Linux or Windows.
the unarchiver should work. this is the one that is listed on the 7zip page for osx.
i definitely have decompressed 7z files on osx before so it certainly should be possible lol
> Sorry for the late reply.... :)
No problem. It's a long hot summer .... too nice to be stuck indoors, messing around with laptops!
>Should I put my firewall on?
I leave mine on - never gives me any problems. I prefer to rely on Apple's inbuilt security - rather than use any third party products.
>Yes, I tried to extract Popcorn-Time-0.3.10_osx64.tar.xz with Dr. Unarchiver
Ok, "once more around the block!" delete all the .tar.xz and .tar.xz.cpgz copies? Re-download a fresh copy from: https://ci.popcorntime.sh/view/All/job/Popcorn-Time-Desktop/281/ . This time try extracting it with https://www.keka.io . Just right click on the PT archive and choose "open with" Keka from the option menu. If this doesn't work ... I'm joining a monastery! :)
If your happy using Time Machine to dial back your system, go ahead .... I don't think you have anything to lose? Your pretty well stuck until you can undo whatever is blocking the PT server requests. Whether the cause was Kaspersky or not - you know it's in your Mac (as your Android phone and your friends Mac works with your internet)?
> Do you know if ScummVM (which I've just downloaded) requires that games come from a certain source? (as in, GOG or abandonia or myabandonware etc)? Or should any of them work?
Shouldn't matter at all. If the original game resource files are there, it should work with whatever version you download. GOG is your best bet for buying legit copies, but you can also find the entire ScummVM set on Emuparadise (shhhhhhhh). You may need something to unpack 7z archives if you don't have a program for it already. Keka is a free program for Mac that will unpack 7z if you need it.
