It's almost impossible to brick a switch (unless you throw it in the water while powered on - roó hou, 2021). Don't buy a premodded one just an unpatched one. If you buy a already modded then I really recommend you to mod it yourself, otherwise you may be really confused as what does what and how to update things. There are many great guides and resources to learn from. I used the rentry.co guide. It's pretty easy to follow, sets you up with ban protection and sigpatches.
You need an unpatched V1 Switch. If you bought it before summer 2018, theres a good chance your switch is hackable. There was an oversight with the base switches that let you install payloads when the switch is in recovery mode.
Heres a guide that also explains it better than I do.
I’ve been considering buying one myself, I see them listed on Ebay for like ~$230 with just the console. But then you need an RCM Jig (to install payloads when its in recovery mode) and all this crap that I don’t have the time to learn atm. And I dont want to half ass it and mess it up
As my last infographic was mildly popular here, I thought it'd be best to post my newest version of my "Idiot's Guide to UK Mainland Legal Guns" with the new release of my written Gun Gide having been updated, ported to and now released on Rentry.co
Whilst it's more of a Hotfix than a revolutionary jump from the Version 1 Section 1 + Section 2 Infographic to what is now the "Idiot's Guide to UK Mainland Guns V1", it does have a few community suggested tweaks such as changing the Mosin to a Lee-Enfield, changing some of the phrasing used in Section 1 Firearms and Section 7 as well as adding a bit of extra polish to go along with the infographic, that in all honesty will be easy to miss without looking at it under mircroscope, as always criticism is always welcome!
And Please do share this with any brit you find that's interested in guns.
v1 unpatched switches are exploited via a hardware issue wherein a payload can be injected into the switch when set into recovery mode, which is initialized by setting a jig in the right rail to press certain pins down and holding volume and power buttons at the same time...
https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
if you're here and don't know what a jig is and what it's for, I recommend checking out all this subreddit's stickies, guides and wikis. because really before you get started, you need to read all of this guide from top to bottom. then a second time. and then a third.
like the title says, your goal is easy. but you need to be prepared and ready to handle everything before you get started, otherwise you might end up confused and messing up a step.
all of your initial questions should be answered within this guide.
Just an FYI, but even paying with PayPal G&S for firearms and firearm-related accessories usually won't net you any buyer or seller protection. Buying/selling most firearm related items are prohibited by PayPal's Terms of Service. All one of the parties has to do is indicate that the item was for a prohibited good, and PayPal is likely to (and has) just ban both accounts from the platform.
I did a write-up on some of the various payment methods used.
1) most people use an emunand to keep the real nand clean and unbanned. You can run cfw and install custom content on sysnand directly but it hurts the resell value and you won’t be able to use any Nintendo services, even the free ones. Also, having an emunand is safer since it’s a sandbox. If you install something meant to ruin your system, you can just delete the emunand and make a new one. It’s easier on the switch than flashing the nand to repair it.
2) you won’t be able to (and shouldn’t be able to) access the eshop on your emunand if you set it up properly. This includes not being able to use “free” titles online either. But if you ever need to, you can boot into sysnand and download any content you need.
3) firmware can be updated manually. The files are usually available on the internet a few days from release. Usually you don’t need them until moooooonths after since most games don’t actually need the new update if you’re installing them using Tinfoil installer.
This guide can help you understand the steps you need to take: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
That's not an answer- well it is, but the answer is "no".
Not sure if you're implying that you're banned or not, but if you aren't (not that I know if this will even do anything now that you've downloaded an update), you should go onto the guide that's stickied on this sub and follow the guidelines on how to prevent a ban:
Edit: and to be clear, this will prevent any game from downloading an update, even if it tells you it needs one.
Copying and pasting my reply from another comment:

Good idea, I think this is especially worthwhile for building a network outside the confines of Reddit.
After they took down all the other subreddits the typical user here lurked or posted on (chapo and cumtown mainly) I became concerned stupidpol would be next -- and I'm sure it will be gone soon enough -- so I began compiling some documents into a git repo which are essentially collages of anti-idpol comments from people on Reddit, mostly this sub. I arranged them myself and sometimes fixed spelling errors.
I haven't updated it roughly since I began it last year but I'll reproduce the three files I have here:
I didn't keep the respective poster's name so they're all anonymous.
Yes it is!

Unfortunately for you the only cfw that is still being updated regularly is atmosphere. If you need help you can try to follow this guide: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
But reinx and sxos are no longer being updated. Also, I think NS atmosphere is just a black market paid version of atmosphere. Atmosphere has always been free for anyone to use and those people just take advantage of less experienced people. Once you get used to using setting up atmosphere on your own. It’s not too bad and very easy to keep updated.
I posted a [formatted version](https://rentry.co/Portarossa_on_The_Donald) here.
Portarossa, if you would like to edit that, send me a DM and I can shoot you the private edit link

>but manajro seems more stable...
I'm kinda curious why this is the case
Manjaro has fewer maintainers and basically just waits some weeks to drop a big chunk of updates and hope they don't break right away
Besides it looks like they don't even have a clue about anything
I'm using btrfs snapshots/rollbacks in case something breaks (Surprisingly I've never needed to use this) on Arch
https://rentry.co/supply52 Spending event is just the first 4 weeks of the update. But yes, Nyx (on EXPA Select banners) is during spending event. Keep in mind it has not been confirmed as to whether Global will get the EXPA Select banners or not.
per Marisa:
WEAPON: Shadow Plume (UP), Keys of the Void, Nue, Vikrant, Sleeping Beauty, Zither, Nuada
STIGMA: Aslaug (UP) , Allan Poe, Leeuwenhoek, Ana, Holmes
For Elysia, what else do you have? If you have Kafka or Columbus. The complete F2P option would be Michelangelo TB/Marco Polo M.
Are you using SXOS?
How you move to a new card will depend on if you're using emuNAND or not.
If you are, here's the link to the guide on the sub https://rentry.co/EmuNANDNewSDcard
you are probably looking for a "reliable" system ("not breaking")
in that case any distro with snapshots (snapper, timeshift, etc.) will do
This is some sort of a guide to torrent, I've never in my life have to torrent something before but this was so useful for when I first tried it, it was made by a mod in the Kaguya sama discord server btw.
Edit: download the episodes from GJM, they do better subs but so far they only have up to Ep 5 of season 2 cuz some technical issues.

It is expected she will return around first week of November; she is one of the rotating EXPA Select options in 5.2 (see here for details).
I dunno if I would classify her as "beginner friendly", she has three different modes to rotate between which might be confusing if you're mostly used to the starter valks. But she is very powerful and can help you clear most early-game stuff easily, that's true.

Well, the best I can give you at this point in time - or better; the only thing - is this here: https://rentry.co/2cngr
It's the last thing I played around with, but it's a <500 list and I really can't say for sure in wich state - it's simply the last thing I have set in RimPy.
That aside;
> so you argue your mod list is a stable and better one?
I don't think I've actually made this claim. The main point of my post was that throwing together 1k different mods just for the sake of raising the mod-count is a rather retarded thing to do and that quality outweighs quantity in most cases by far.
It's not monster girls, but someone made a Monster Hunter lorebook that's 80+ entries long. Maybe you also enjoy that world?
Also, there are several monster girl modules on the Rentry catalog, run by the fine folks at 4chan. (Warning: Lots of NSFW there, as well as content some find objectionable. Please use your own discretion before and/or while visiting the site.)
Edit: Actually, they added a page with lorebook entries, too. This monster girl lorebook uses regex to fix issues with, e.g., catgirl vs. cat-girl. Neat!

>If I update into 12.1, will I be able to still boot into SX OS Menu to inject Hekate Payload? I want to keep using the dongle to boot as we don't really have any other option to boot payloads for now.
From what I understand you won't be able to, but I think you can change the payload on the dongle. Try googling or check this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchPirates/comments/llcgxj/use_sx_pro_dongle_and_atmosphere/

>Which Homebrew App should I use to install 12.1? Our Switch is banned so getting the OG Firmware is a no-go. I've used ChoiDojour before but I've heard it's not such a good idea to use it anymore, don't know why.
You should update using daybreak. You can get the fw files from darthsternie

>And second, is this necessary or is there something I'm missing that lets me play 12.1 games on SX OS 3.1.0?
There isn't

>Is it possible I have a copy on the SD itself and what files am I looking for, BOOT0/BOOT1?
It's totally possible, but unlikely unless you have a huge SD - most people delete it/move it to other storage to free up space. Were you using an emunand? If so, your sysnand may still be clean and usable. If not, you've "dirtied" it and cleaning it without a backup will be tough. Do not use someone else's backup.
>Which should I update first and is there something I should switch over to (I saw Kosmos is archived now.)?
You need to use just Atmosphere now; Kosmos is very depreciated. Your setup is so old that you may find it a good idea to just redo it using the guide here: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy

>A lot of my backups have an update software nag popup, is it ever safe to update these from the console itself?
No. Continue installing updates manually. Using an up to date shop in Tinfoil can allow you to update games more easily from those sources.
>Also my HBmenu has Checkpoint 3.5.0, ChoiDujourNX 1.0.1, EdiZon 1.5.1, hb app store 2.0, Tinfoil 0.2.1. Are any of these antiquated and need to be changed?
Basically all of them are super old and need to be updated at the very least! You can now use Daybreak (comes with Atmosphere) instead of ChoiDujourNX. You can get JKSV in addition to an updated Checkpoint or instead of it if you want.
I wrote a lot of times about the flaws, but I pretty much found a number of sources that sum up my thoughts:
https://github.com/arindas/manjarno https://www.hadet.dev/Manjaro-Bad/ https://rentry.co/manjaro-controversies
In my harsh opinion, it's a burning dumpster fire of a distro and should stop being recommended altogether. Endeavour and Arco seem to actually have their stuff together.

ooh? thanks for this! although this post was made in like, 4 months ago, I'm still surprised someone still answer this. I think there's a way to convert the files into an iso in this website: https://rentry.co/build-win2k3
That could work yes. Worst case we could always copy/paste and make the layout again (well worst case would be deletion/data loss actually).
At some point the amount of data gets so big that it might be better to look at a better foundation, instead of running the risk of rebuilding the house, so to speak. I don't have immediate better ideas though and also don't know what is allowed on Reddit, if we can link to like rentry.co or Google Docs that could work.
Anyway no real issues so far and it all works, but there's some downsides, another one is that you get piled up with all the work.
You can’t pirate games on the same nand you plan to play online with. There isn’t a magic solution that allows you to play pirated games online or to have both pirated content and legit content on the same NAND.
If you want you can set up a dual boot clean sysnand and dirty emunand, but only if you made a nand backup of your clean nand before hacking. You can follow this guide for help: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy Otherwise you have no other options. The whole point is to lock Nintendo servers. So obviously you can’t connect to the eshop either.

Does this guide not work? I just used it about a month ago to go from sxos to atmo on my unpatched day 1 system. Ez pz. I picked the one for you assuming you use emunand. There’s also sysnand.
https://rentry.co/MarikoEmuNAND
Takes like 20 mins to do this minus backup time.
Yes and no.
You can play games you own online with a valid Nintendo switch online subscription.
BUT
Only if you set up an emunand. Basically you make a sandbox clone of the switch. That runs off of an SD. But before you can install anything onto that sandbox clone called “EMUNAND OR EMUMMC” you need to block Nintendo services on it. If you don’t block them with incognito or exosphere (Nintendo blockers) then emunand will be banned. Since emunand is a clone of your original switch setup, your entire switch will be banned too.
If you do things the right way and block services before installing anything custom or other to the emunand, you can then switch between playing offline on emunand with your dirty stuff or sysnand and playing online with your store or eshop purchased goods. But you can never take any game you downloaded off the internet online (even the free ones) on emunand or you’ll get banned. And this ban is not reverseable in any way.
If you want to learn how to set this up yourself (for free), read this guide https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
I wouldn’t suggest paying for a hacking service unless they are also installing an sxcore or sxlite onto one of the newer switch models. Anything else is just getting you to pay for free hacks.
I've been to a lot of 'hippie' festivals and I love chai tea. I've got a few flavors that apply here, but I'm a beginning mixer and have yet to mix or create a chai recipe.
Like you folks I'm looking forward to this episode. And to Emily who likes her chai in the fall I suggest a chai tea outside in the evening when a spring or summer day cools down ;-)
Not sure if this is the right place to post, but for my personal use I have created a plain text file with most of the timestamps for the Noted videos on YouTube. In case anybody is interested I've uploaded it here: https://rentry.co/pmmmt
Use CTRL+F to find flavors, for example: "fa carda" will jump to the next available timestamp for FA Cardamom. Feel free to share this link or use it elsewhere. I will try and update the list regularly, though not as quick as the folks under the YouTube vids.
This is my first Reddit post, so why not finish by sending my rich, sumptuous unending gratitude to the Noted crew and their guests. And also a thick, decadent thanks to the timestamp posters under the youtube vids.
I've been attempting to update the pastebin, but it seems they are currently updating the website. Kandashi helped me figure out an alternative method of getting the token which seems to be working, not sure why the old method broke. You may still get the popup, but I think it should work from there. Let me know if it doesn't. https://rentry.co/vpdem
https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
This guide can help you figure out how to set that all up.
The most important things you absolutely have to do is make a nand backup, format your SD to fat32, set up emunand (if you care about playing legit games online) and setting up incognito so your emunand and the custom content doesn’t get your entire switch banned.
There isn’t so much a lot of maintenance. - You download the new cfw packages - you download the matching sigpatches when available - you download whatever system firmware you want/need to upgrade to.
That’s pretty much it.
And yes, if you fully power down you need to Rei next the payload each time. All your content will still be there and you don’t have to reinstall it, but you need to inject the payload to use anything cfw related
1) many people don’t use autorcm. It has some drawbacks that are annoying. But as long as you keep the switch charged and never let it die, it isn’t too big of an issue.
2) do not do the aluminum foil technique. It leaves aluminum flakes in the rail and over time it will cause your switch to burn and become irreparable. Just get a wire based jig. Don’t go cheap. If you go cheap and use aluminum foil or a paper clip jig, you’ll ruin the switch.
3) Your hekate set up is probably running off of sysnand and your atmosphere set up is probably running off of emunand. It’s hard to tell since you didn’t tel us and probably don’t know the difference.
4) yes, just dump the save on the hekate side with a save manager then use the same save manager to import it to the atmosphere side. You just need boot the game once and make a base save so that you can import it.
To restart your cfw set up, I recommend this guide: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
Try this guide https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy, either the sysnand erista or emunand erista page depending on whether you want to use emunand or not. If you still have that issue then let me know.
Yes, if you have an emunand on a supported fw, it doesn’t matter what version your sysnand is. It’s a big reason why most of us use emuanand. It uses 30gb more space but then we aren’t locked out of cfw like everyone else is when a new system fw comes out. If you want to know how to make an emunand our guide can help you set that up: https://rentry.co/SwitchHackingIsEasy
To convert your current set up just follow the same steps. Emunand is just a sandbox clone of whatever your sysnand has. Normally you make one with a clean sysnand, but if you want to move your set up, make an emuannd based on your current sysnand. It will move all the files. After that, if you aren’t banned yet, you can restore your old clean nand backup and use sysnand to play online with any legit games you own and keep all the dirty stuff offline with emunand. Keep in mind once the emunand is made, whatever happens on the emuannd sandbox stays there. Emuannd and sysnand don’t sync or communicate. So don’t expect saves to sync after you separate them.
However, Until atmosphere supports 12.0.0 you won’t be able to set any of this up. Until then just wait it out.
links why manjaro bad: https://github.com/vizs/manjarno https://rentry.co/manjaro-controversies https://manjaro.synh.me/
Reasons why manjaro bad: 1. Manjaro claims to be stable, but all it does is holding packages back for a week and hoping someone pushes a fix for them.
Manjaro had their ssl certificates expired multiple times, and asked users to roll their clocks back to ""fix"" this problem.
Manjaro ships with pamac, an old, unsafe aur helper
Manjaro does a lot of shady stuff like running rm on the lock file mid-transaction, or running pacman -Q | grep when pacman natively supports querying for packages
Manjaro is focused on monetizing the distro, while arch only accepts donations.
Manjaro devs encourage the users to do partial upgrades with pacman -Sy, but those can break your system.
Manjaro claims to be a good distro for beginners, but rolling release distros aren't good for beginners.
Manjaro has locked grub. When me or my friend tried to change the grub config file on manjaro, it stopped booting, but when we copied that file over to arch, it booted perfectly fine.
I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:

You can always check Marisa Honkai's posts for upcoming banners, though keep in mind that GLB doesn't always follow CH banners 100%.
*If* we get the same 5.2 banners as China did, KoR will come back at the end of this month.

https://rentry.co/manjaro-controversies Manjaro definitely isn't doing fine, it's a very bad choice. Maybe if they're just glorified installers it might be okay, but when the maintainers throw in anything more than that it's bound to break and be unstable.
If you want to use something with a lot of spins and has up to date software, use Fedora or it's spins. It's based on a 6 month release cycle. Basing distros on rolling releases is fundamentally a bad idea. There's a reason version numbers exist.
Regardless, using tiny unknown distros is asking for trouble and not getting actual support on issues. Sticking to the big ones that have corporate support, are actively maintained and supported by 3rd parties is a better choice. Seeing people recommend obscure distros hurts me nowadays, those people will use it, realise their software doesn't work or is complicated to install and believe all Linux is like that. Even though if they just went with Ubuntu/RHEL (Or based on it) it would be very different.
Well, I prefer Adam Smith's take on it, even with some of the mistakes.
> There is also an obscure book called "Das Kapital". Maybe you've heard of it. rofl
Yup, heard of it and critiqued it.
