Don't study at home, there are way more distractions than you could ever imagine. Try a library or a study room, it works for me. Get some appropriate music (I suggest http://www.stereomood.com/activity/studying) and focus. Gluck!
Lots of music. If you are into indie stuff check out StereoMood. Talking to friends or just generally hanging out with people. Go have fun! Do things your ex hated that you love. DO NOT TALK TO YOUR EX! It will be easier for both of you.
In general, just go out and try to have fun. Make new memories and experience new things.
my desk and workspace has to be very zen, almost like a meditation room: http://i.imgur.com/XgtvT.jpg
sorry for the blurry pic, but that is first and foremost the most important thing about long programming and design hours that I really do love and enjoy. If I'm working in a shitty room or a crappy desk with bad lighting though, it's game over (although I don't mind coffee shops if they're nice and cozy)
Gotta love driving to subway for lunch (foot long honey oat chicken breast loaded with everything and chipotle and sweet onion sauce)
for snacks i have beef jerky, carrots and dip.. apple juice.. or, sometimes in the morning i get an iced vanilla mocha (chocolate mocha with vanilla syrup) from the various coffee shops. they all taste a little different so I have found the best one and go there regularly.
For music I listen to this: http://www.stereomood.com/activity/chillout
it pics your music depending on your mood. i love it more than pandora and whatnot, because if i knew what i wanted to listen to i would just get it myself..
I also listen to 90's radio alternative nonstop sometimes, even though Ive heard the songs 1000 times. I dont think i will ever get tired of head over feet by alanis morisette.
also this if its extremely tedious project http://www.rainymood.com/
This Bitter Earth, by Dinah Washington & Max Richter - from the Shutter Island soundtrack
edit: youtube link
I shamelessly stole this from another thread on Reddit about non reddit websites, but I think it should get passed around as much as possible.
Admittedly, I might have some slightly strange summer songs tastes, but... here ya go. This also turned out longer than I expected, but I omitted a fair few for the sake of brevity, too.
Also, please don't forget the excellent Sunny Day and Summer playlists at Stereomood.

I searched pandora for 'Workout', and got a "21 Minute Workout" playlist which is good. It's a bit more up-to-date club/dance music than I'd typically listen to, but it's exactly the right pace for a run. The beat is pretty consistent through the songs so my pace doesn't waver much when the song changes, which I appreciate.
During warm up/stretches I'll sometimes listen to 90's nostalgic girl-power music, which puts a smile on my face and gets me looking forward to the workout. I also have a playlist of music from the show Misfits, I filtered through and selected the faster paced music and made a dance mix, which is a fun thing to listen to during a warm up and a bit more similar to my every day music style.
Fort Minor "Remember the Name" is a good song to get amped with and I imagine that would be a better breed of songs for lifting. There is a whole lot of hip-hop with that kind of feeling to it. If thats more your style I'd probably start by making a Pandora station, customize it as you go etc.
One more place I like for songs is stereomood, which has pre made playlists based on moods or activities. I know they have a playlist called 'running'. I've never used it because they don't have a mobile app and I tend to run around the block, but I like that website in general and it's a good place to discover new songs, maybe have a little look around there.
Hope you find some stuff you like. Music is a great motivator. :)
Some advice from a chronic procrastinator : plan what you need to do and make a schedule (like tasks for every two or three days). This way you can see if you're behind and freak out before it's too late. Dont work in front of the TV/computer : you're not doing two things at the same time, you're just wasting your time. Instead, go to stereomood or listen to classical music : it will energize you without distracting you with lyrics. A last tip : put books that you need to read in the toilets. And pin what you need to learn on your bathroom mirror so you can read it over and over again while you're brushing your teeth/shaving/doing whatever strange things that you do in your bathroom. Good luck!
I recently came across this site: http://www.stereomood.com/ and I quite like a couple of it's stations. I haven't tried them all but I've enjoyed Dreamy, Reading, and Relaxing. It's nice, non-obtrusive, usually non-lyrical music that fills the background without taking center stage.
Shit nearly forgot this one, it's a tie for me:
Dammit, this too. This thread made me put on my "Intsrumental" playlist and look what happens.
I have two great suggestions for you... SimplyNoise, which is white/pink/brown noise and the sleepy playlist on Steromood. Enjoy!
You might want to check out Stereomood. It groups songs by mood/tag. I wasn't sure about it at first but I've come to find it really useful and great for discovering new music. If you sign up (free) you can add songs ad hoc to your library and organize them by list.
I really enjoy stereomood.com as they have a huge amount of playlists to suit almost every mood you can think of. Users on the site add tracks to the playlist so it's usually quite diverse and suitable for everyone.
Here's their playlist for "I'm in the mood for a glass of wine".
Aww D: that sucks. I'm sorry, good luck for next time! Wait... they sent you to the wrong place? So it's not even your fault?! THAT.SUCKS. If you wanted to listen to some music or something, I was just looking at http://www.stereomood.com/ . It has playlists for your different moods. Pretty cool.
Grooveshark -create your own playlist
Stereomood -playlist based on your mood
BBC Radio -pick your category of music, then find a channel, so many artists to discover
This is a good place to start. I also enjoy listening to Explosions in the Sky, Lana Del Ray, Sigur Rós, Death Cab for Cutie, or Manchester Orchestra while studying.
Find music with a happier vibe over at http://stereomood.com I listen to a lot of happy themed music there; here's my playlist if you needed to get a good start.
You should definitely send some of your tracks there. Since the songs are nicely segregated by moods, you should be able to get a bunch of people to listen to your songs.
Nice work, keep it up
Thanks for the comment!
They keyboard sound is because I actually didn't sample Nantes itself; I sampled a random rework I found on Stereomood of the song, so it's a couple degrees of separation.
Much love.
I like this. There is no real way for finding new music specifically by the criteria of "how this song makes you feel". There is something out already called stereomood. But that only ties songs to emotions. Your idea would be better in my opinion.
I agree with a lot of reccomendations here and add my own :
I paid down a bunch of debt, and this song came on, and I teared up. Call it cheesy, it is, but I have an overwhelming sense of relief whenever I hear it.
Edit:
Here's more ideas for you here http://www.stereomood.com/mood/happy
Usually http://www.stereomood.com/activity/chillout to try to keep myself semi calm (bit up tempo is ok, but too much and I find myself way too aggravated especially when losing). Sometimes, game music/scores.
Check out Stereomood. They organize playlists based on the emotions or moods that the music evokes.
Just choose whichever mood is closest to your ideal studying mood.
I'm partial to the Relax, Groovy, Calm, Summer and Sunday Morning playlists, but they're all pretty nice with lots of overlap. They have a Working and a Studying playlist that might be worth checking out.
I was trying to compile a list last week and I saw a reddit post that linked this site stereomood.com anyways, you can pick a playlist based on your mood. I've gone through some of it, pretty decent stuff.
You can also create your own lists, save faves. It's pretty good. I didnt agree with all of it but I got a shit ton of great ideas and it's not so played out like portishead
Looks like this is it: http://www.stereomood.com/api/app/stereodroid
.. but, unfortunately, website is out of bandwidth and I wonder if reddit has to say something about that :) And, also, I wonder why that app wasn't hosted somewhere safe, for example, in Android Market or Stereomood servers.
