For anyone NOT aware of the claims.
The company that ‘’officially’' operates ProtonVPN is ProtonVPN AG, a Switzerland based company[1]. However, the business is in reality operated by PROTONVPN LT, UAB a Lithuania based company, which has the same office address as Tesonet, UAB. Both company offices are located at: J. Jasinskio g. 16C, Vilnius 03163, Lithuania[2][3]. PROTONVPN LT, UAB is a separate company that ProtonMail outsources the protection of its users information to - ultimately run by Tesonet out of Lithuania[4]. Furthermore, Tesonet is operating a data mining operation out of Lithuania[5]. TesoNet also operates NordVPN[6], which claims to be based in Panama, not Lithuania[7]. This is specifically the type of situation that ProtonMail themselves say not to trust[8]. It’s appalling. In short NordVPN and ProtonVPN are operated by the same people/team/company. It's likely a joint venture between ProtonMail and Tesonet.

Yuuup, no thanks. For what I know, you're re-selling another VPN service like Mullvad.
PROTONVPN is supporting and FUNDING the HK rioters..
This is from their website: "PROTONVPN will be donating 50% of our revenue from July, August, and September 2020 from Hong Kong to support two local civil rights organizations: 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund and Stand With Hong Kong. "
MY APOLOGIES TO PROTONVPN.
" ...please let us know your ticket number..."
I wondered why you were asking that since I never got a ticket number, which made me wonder if I had made a mistake.
I registered correctly because I received a "Welcome" email, so Proton has my email and user name.
I wondered if I'd gotten something wrong when I submitted the trouble tickets. I found I'd written the email ending incorrectly on my notes I'd made when I opened the account. I had sent in the correct Username each time. I sent a 3rd time, this time definitely with the correct email address including ending, and right away got an autoresponse email for the 1st time.
And I received an answer within 16 hours.
So again I apologize to ProtonVPN.
ProtonVPN - If you'd like, I can start a new post stating I made an error when I complained about the response time as it was due to my error.
I assume you use the Linux CLI? Do sudo pvpn -init
and make sure to enter the OpenVPN credentials and not the ProtonVPN login credentials.
Also make sure to use TCP, maybe your network is blocking something.
If that doesn't help, try PROTO<a rel="nofollow" href="https://nvpn.net/">NVPN</a>_CLI_LOG=true sudo pvpn -c
and post the output of the file that it creates here.
Generally, VPN are paid services that allow you to pass your network traffic through the VPN’s hub. There are free VPN but they usually aren’t the most reliable and tend to log your data.
I don’t know of any SideLoad specific ones but Apple has a built in agent for it and there is an openly available manager called OPENVPN to help set it up.
As far as which service? I would recommend Private Internet Access. No logs and a fair price per year. I’ve also never had issues connection from my iPhone or computer and their instructions are very easy to use.
For more information and a better place to ask, check out /r/vpn
NVPN and you can pay with BTC. You don't need a name or anything to purchase. I have been using NVPN since 08' never had an issue. It's only $6 a month too. Or if you want for $2 more a month you can get a dedicated IP all to yourself. The only reason you should get a dedicated ip is for opening PayPal or a shipping account online. If you don't care your ip changes each connect (more secure IMO) than get the $6 plan.
OpenVPN can be configured to run on different ports. Though I have not yet checked it might be possible on a PF sense box (or shorewall) that runs openVPN.
Edit: Yes it is possible on shorewall. Link
I was referred to NVPN. Can't navigate anywhere without having to solve puzzles. What a waste of money. Nord. I will be travelling abroad soon and have to use public wifi . Not sure what to do. Other than buy another program.
I'm not the guy you asked, but here's a detailed breakdown of how I did it:
auth-user-pass
Good luck!
To add onto this, at least for NordVPN, OPENVPN_USERNAME/OPENVPN_PASSWORD are NOT the credentials you use to sign into their website, but rather credentials they give to you under your plan. You should not be using your email in OPENVPN_USERNAME.
Also, I recommend using a docker compose to set the containers up. If you want, OP, I can send you my docker compose and walk you through using it. It's pretty easy if you have minimal experience with a command line.
Hi,
I ran into a similar issue on my Manjaro Linux install while using the nordvpn (version: 3.7.4-1). Pretty much every time I would try to connect after upgrading the CLI it would fail right away and ask me to contact NORDVPN support (I did verify on my phone and via the Linux Network Manager that I could use the OPENVPN protocol)) . The symptoms for me (where I use autoconnect) is the system attempts to connect to the US and fails.
I addressed the issue on my 3 laptops as follows (technology configured is NORDLYNX):
(1) Open Terminal.
(2) Verify that nordvpn ins disconnected "nordvpn status".
(3) Recycle the nordvpn service "systemctl restart nordvpnd.service".
(4) I will then issue the connect command where I specify the preferred city "nordvpn connect <NAME-OF-Preferred-City>".
(5) It will then work.
Hopefully NordVPN identifies where the bug us coming from.
Hope
Mostly VPN killswitch in case your connection drops and whilst it is trying to reconnect it might submit data through your net possibly identifying your connection.
I use OPENVPN myself with a simple DNS leak protection script and it works fantastic , it works much more efficiently then some of the standalone VPN provider applications (i.e PIA manager or PureVPN).
If you have both use both , as /u/freepressdotnet just stated ISP's may throttle you and its best just to have the anonymity and SEED SEED SEED! at the cost of a little speed.
Well, the difference between a Proxy and a VPN is basically, that a VPN encrypts and/or tunnels your whole traffic, while a Proxy only tunnels the traffic of that one program where you set it up, be it your torrent client or browser, or anything, but a Proxy does not encrypt your traffic without the use of programs like stunnel, which basically force a TSL/SSL encryption.
Stunnel is not really required, but if you want a bit more of extra security you can easily set it up if you have a Squid/Socks5 Proxy. VPN services like NVPN do offer a Squid and Socks5 proxy with their VPN package, and they also offer some really good and simple tutorials to get the encryption working with Stunnel.
For the Squid(HTTP Proxy) ?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/391/51/how-to-use-our-squid-proxy
for the Socks5: ?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/399/0/how-to-use-our-socks5-proxy
I use NVPN myself, which is a vpn with a pretty good rumor. Its used a lot for torrents and by hackers in general. And they are known for not keeping other logs than registering email + some basic credit card info. Which can easily be bypassed with a proxy, prepaid credit card and a throwaway email.
Yes, I successfully installed it today. I made numerous attempts to install it in accordance with the procedure described on the website, but I was always stuck at the $ sudo dnf install protonvpn step. I only changed the step-by-step procedure, not tried any new methods.
EACH STEP LISTED LINE TO LINE
Step 1:- Initially, download PROTONVPN's RPM package from
Step 2:- $ sudo dnf -i [Package name of protonvpn rpm] install the RPM package of ProtonVPN by Identifying the path where the package was downloaded.
QUIT THE TERMINAL AND START IT AGAIN.
Step 3:- sudo dnf install python3-pip
Step 4:- pip3 install --user 'dnspython>=1.16.0'
Step 5:- $ sudo dnf install protonvpn-cli employing this command, Protonvpn-cli was installed rather than the Proton VPN package directly.
I had this happen yesterday when I got logged out somehow. I don’t think I had Kill Switch Engaged, but I had to stop the NVPN service to get Internet back. No Internet so I couldn’t log back in to manage NVPN.
This was enough for me to run it on my 920+
docker run --cap-add=NET_ADMIN -d \ -v /volume1/Media:/data \ -e OPENVPN_PROVIDER=PROTONVPN \ -e \ (udp or tcp for sweden) -e OPENVPN_USERNAME=openvpn login \ -e OPENVPN_PASSWORD=openvpn pass \ -e LOCAL_NETWORK=192.168.0.0/16 \ -e PUID=1026 \ (you may need to change that) -e PGID=100 \ (and that) --log-driver json-file \ --log-opt max-size=10m \ -p 9091:9091 \ haugene/transmission-openvpn
NO I DONT WANT JUST MY GOOGLE CHROME TO GO DOWN WHEN MY VPN GOES DOWN, I WANT MY WHOLE NETWORK TO GO DOWN.
MACOS NVPN DOES NOT HAVE A KILL NETWORK , IT ONLY HAS APPS LIKE BROWSERS THAT GO DOWN NOT NETWORK
PROTONVPN is set to sign out if it is not used for some weeks. You can go to proton website and see if the session is closed or not. Beside, if you have connection issue, you can change protocol from smart to something else (you can test which one is best for you).
I've seen someone asking if this got solved - then the comment was deleted. To give an update:
NVPN support gave me several ideas, some useless, but one that seems to be holding some promise: they told me to use CloudFlare DNS on my qnap and try any close geographically TCP profile. I did that and the connection is working for a few days now.
Just thought someone might try it as well.
You don't place it anywhere. You extract the info from inside the file and use environment variables.
Here's an example of what my environment variables look like in my docker compose file.
environment:
- VPN_SERVICE_PROVIDER=private internet access
- VPN_TYPE=openvpn
- OPENVPN_USER=user
- OPENVPN_PASSWORD=password
- SERVER_REGIONS=Switzerland
- TZ="America/New_York"
Hope that helps.

If you're using cellular data vpns can be tricky. Alot of them dont work woth cellular so if thats they case you safest bet would be private vps on OPENVPN and OUTLINE.
If you're using adsl probably anything would work.
I see alot of nord vpn recommendations but for me personally nord doesn't work, as its domain is blocked by alot of isps.
I would recommend windscribe, (even tho it doesn't work in anyway with mci hence the first paragraph) is working just fine as of now.
Tunnel bear used to be good but i have no idea how it is now
Also urban vpn is a solid choice aswell
Thanks for the clarification. Any reason why there is a minimum karma to be able to post in this subreddit? Some none reddit users might just subscribe to ask about an issue they are going through with NVPN that customer service didn’t help with. Something to think about. Thanks
Simply because people pay a premium price to NVPN to protect their privacy more than any other VPN service provider, so I am wondering if an independent consumer who is a legal subject matter expert had the chance to review it thoroughly to advise if there is anything to worry about that is buried between the lines. We have to monitor the company behavior, changes and adjustments to such documents in regular basis and flag any suspicious incidents.
All I can say is congrats on finding your way to arguably the best VPN provider out there, this took me some time to find IVPN and unfortunately many folks are being taken advantage of by so-called data harvesting free VPNs and even paid VPNs like NVPN that have other objectives like maximum cash flow at the risk of real privacy and true transparency.
I just switched to Surfshark because Nord were such a pain at the end of my contract. I had a better experience with NVPN. I constantly get hit with captcha blocks using SS. I don't know if that means it's working or not, but it's super annoying.
Thanks. But I think it's a bug. I just noted that NVPN says "connected with [server]" after booting up; it's just the logo that is white which tells me that it actually isn't. All started with the update, so it's probably not my system settings. Sure, it's not a big deal, but it's unnerving to click quick connect manually every time.

Is there anything else I can try?
>10611-->32400
Hey there, sorry i know this message is 7 months old but am having a hard time forwarding ports with windscribe VPN connected.
I am a little confused on why you would put 10611 into plex instead of 32400?
If i am requesting that port on windscribe (32400) shouldnt that be the port you put into the program you need the ports forwarded?
I have tryed everything but can never get the ports forwarded. connected to OPENVPN as well. without vpn ports forward fine LAN Traffic enabled too. I am trying to port forward on qbittorrent. I will try and add the 10611 or whatever the other number comes up for me and see if that works but so far doesnt look like its working
I have an ASUS AX58U and have a Moca Adapter for the guide and to keep the DVR programing. I recently added a VPN through the Router, and it works great, but the main box 4100 unit loses internet connectivity. Can't find the WAN IP. So the guide goes down every 7 days or so, and I have to turn the VPN off for awhile for it to catch up. Anybody got a fix for that?
The VPN through the router works great though, I am using PROTONVPN service.
Experience ko to way to fix this use vpn tapos kung may third party router ex like asus router ka dun mo lalagay openvpn config PH Servers para mababa yung ping download sa VPN ex Purevpn or PrivateInternet Access VPN dapat may features ng L2TP or OPENVPN yung router nabili nyu. Converge user ako eto yung gingagamit ko para makag online games and stream works like a charm.
Hey there, if you could actually try it with:
docker run -it --rm --cap-add=NET_ADMIN -e VPNSP="perfect privacy" -e OPE<a rel="nofollow" href="https://nvpn.net/">NVPN</a>_USER=youruser -e OPENVPN_PASSWORD=yourpassword -e CITY=amsterdam qmcgaw/gluetun:perfectprivacy
And let me know if it works, that would be nice, thanks!
Feel free to reply at
It's like CoD in the old days. People get it because of having people work at gamestores or in this case record shops. Paying around 20$USD more to get there hands on early. I hope that he wont leak it. And if you want to listen it around 2:00PM BST (15:00 GMT) legaly you can download PROTONVPN for free and set yourself to Japan and make an Japanese Spotify account. So when it realeses there at 0:00AM you can listen it on the 2nd of September
I have by far the most headaches with NVPN, nothing of which support has resolved just providing work arounds instead of a full refund. Like a fool I signed up for 3 years, so what ever you do don't do that. NVPN has costed me a lot of problems especially with WFH situations including important presentations where connectivity has just dropped, the main underlying issue.

Thanks for the Tip, Still get the same error when trying to deploy
I do not think that is the issue for if I move Sonarr and Radarr outside of the NVPN container I can reach them but of course they can no longer communicate with NZBGet for that application is still routing through the NVPN container.
OK, let me reclarify my questions...
What I'm asking is, is it possible to first connect to Switzerland, hop to Iceland, then exit out through a country? Like a "double secure core"?
If a surveillance country really want to monitor someone, they would have to go through those two country's court systems.
If it helps to visualize the network...
Client->Switzerland->Iceland->exit-country
Or to make it extremely difficult, to make it next-to-impossible to monitor...
Client->Switzerland->Iceland->Sweden->Exit-country
Same goes for TOR servers.
Especially since PROTONVPN have explicit control over their servers in Switzerland, Sweden, and Iceland.
TLDR: Unless your a terrorist being a FVEY citizen makes you too much trouble so it’s criminal interests that are your threat, making a US based VPN useful.
So, If you’re not doing anything illegal, I doubt the govt cares if you have some weird fetish, but if you’re important enough that you could be blackmailed from for it, then you should have it for private protection.
FVEY cannot casually collect on FVEY targets even in foreign countries (say you’re an American working in Syria for isis, you’re still an American), so it doesn’t matter whether your VPN is in Europe or America if you’re worried about some close alliance spying. Caveat is that some agency like the FBI obviously can pull from a domestic company while NVPN can tell a US alphabet agency to fuck off. I mean at this point, you’re doing something that’s enough to get a legit investigation interest, ie; you’re kidnapping, drug dealing, basically are a terrorist or have terrorist friends.
Yes I think so but if you want look up PROTONMAIL and PROTONVPN.
I'm happy with both. Especially since they offer more options to pay (bitcoin). They are expensive but definitely worth it for me when it comes down to all around security and options offered.
Hi,
I don't really understand what you want here so I'll try my best.
I have currently a qbittorrent setup with docker using alpine-qbittorrent-openvpn
Environment variable looks like this:
- OPENVPN_PROVIDER=MULLVAD - OPENVPN_CONFIG=nl_all # Change country here - OPENVPN_USERNAME=[account number] - OPENVPN_PASSWORD=m - PUID=1000 - PGID=1000 - LAN=192.168.0.0/16
If you follow this, you'll be able to make it work without problem. Don't forget to open a port on mullvad website and set it on qbittorrent "connection" tab in settings once everything is running.
Set "" . The docker image comes with Mullvad openvpn configs so you don't need to use your own oepnvpn config.
Reference:
Okay i see you are very confused with the vpn thing. I will suggest you to go to the app store if you are using an iphone or go to the play store if you are in android and download PROTONVPN. Create an account and do choose the free plan. Once you have that ready connect to USA servers. I think this should work for you.
So it would be something like that:
docker run --cap-add=NET_ADMIN -d \ -v /home/docker/transmission/:/data \ -v /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro \ -v /data/complete:/media/sandisk/complete -e CREATE_TUN_DEVICE=true \ -e OPENVPN_PROVIDER=MULLVAD \ -e OPENVPN_CONFIG=mullvad_de \ -e OPENVPN_USERNAME=000000000 \ -e OPENVPN_PASSWORD=x \ -e WEBPROXY_ENABLED=false \ -e LOCAL_NETWORK=192.168.1.0/24 \ --log-driver json-file \ --log-opt max-size=10m \ --sysctl .disable_ipv6=0 \ -p 9091:9091 \ haugene/transmission-openvpn:latest-armhf
So I got to the "Launch the Docker Image" step and I'm lost regarding how to setup the openvpn profile for Mullvad. Am I supposed to enter specific information for the path? I'm not sure what folder name you mean by "Simply copy the folder name into the OPENVPN_PROVIDER variable." Forgive me...I'm still climbing the learning curve.
Yep, I followed the guide to the letter. I've re-done it so many times I could do it in my sleep ha!

Ok, people with the below issue please PM wth your help. I am stumped on how the hell to get Docker Compose to work to fix the RTNETLINK issue.
Can someone confirm if these are the correct inputs for the OPENVPN_CONFIG for Mullvad?
I am also getting the RTNETLINK Permission Denied error on the logs. I have read a lot about putting command in the Dockers run command, something about disabling ipv6. I’m not sure how/where to add this line? I believe it’s here but I just keep getting errors when I try it.
God damn Docker confuses the hell out of me!
Edit: On a DS718+
>"I've recently overcome the issue of ipv6 in my .ovpn file provided from Mullvad and finally got the container running without crashing."
How did you accomplish this? I am configuring the same container.
I'm getting the below Log:
And I have zero idea on how to edit the Docker run command to disable the ipv6 most fixes say to do.
Also, for Mullvad, what have you entered into the Docker environment for: OPENVPN_PROVIDER and OPENVPN_CONFIG. For example, I using 'Mullvad_gb-lon_tcp443'. Do I just use that? Or include the .ovpn?
I found exactly the same as you. It occasionally worked but mostly didn't.
This is what I did to get Download Station working with NordVPN: Go here Select Country Select P2P Select OpenVPN TCP Click show available protocols Click OpenVPN TCP Download config Save the file
Open QVPN
Go to VPN Client, VPN Connection Profiles
Click Add, OpenVPN
Pick the file you just downloaded
Click the connect symbol over on the right.
Then click Use VPN as NAS Default Gateway Click Enable VPN Gateway.
If you go to Network & Virtual Switch, Overview, you should see OPENVPN in the Physical Adapters. It should also be showing as the default gateway (open door and arrow symbol)
Remove the proxy from Download Station and it will work. If you want to check Download Station is using the VPN then you can check it here
b1g
Can use OPENVPN interface to import a file to use. Have to do this manually at first but then you can turn it on with a simple switch.
You actually don’t have to manually download OVPN files at all. That container pulls a config automatically using the NORDVPN API. You just have to add a few Nord specific environment variables.
You have to add the variables NORDVPN_COUNTRY, NORDVPN_CATEGORY, NORDVPN_PROTOCOL and remove the one for OPENVPN_CONFIG and it will start right up. COUNTRY set to “US”, CATEGORY set to “P2P”, and PROTOCOL set to “UDP” without quotes. You can find more information explaining all the Environment Variables you can use on the github page for that container.
Unfortunately not before I switched it out for the 918, I am just building up the motivation to try it again! Sadly each step I tried gave me a different error message, which I'd fix, which then resulted in something else. I eventually got stuck in a loop so was starting to consider whacking a VPN on a router with a firewall so it's all in one place.
A large majority of people say to use the OPENVPN_COUNTRY(?) and while that helped to an extent I had other error messages. On top of that setting up Sonarr was going funny for me.
I'll have to try again soon!
I believe NordVPN have the configs you can download which you can point it towards but again.. different error messages sadly..
Apologies I couldn't be much more help! I'll take another look soon and see if I can get it working
Oddly enough now when i remove OPENVPN_CONFIG it has an AUTH faliure.

Though with the CONFIG it gives:
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing or extra parameter(s) in :1: html (2.4.4)

Both of those are with 'CREATE_TUN_DEVICE:true' in the environment
I have finally gotten it to point at a config file i downloaded. however:
I've gotten it to see the file by using just the filename in the OPENVPN_CONFIG (and having it mounted in 'volume')....however i now get the below:
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing or extra parameter(s) in :1: html (2.4.4)
slowly getting closer, but no idea what's causing this one haha
Seems a bit further along now, however i'm getting the below:

Warning: : stdout15:43:51Warning: No such file or directory stdout15:43:51100 162 100 162 0 0 1421 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 1421 stdout15:43:51curl: (23) Failed writing body (0 != 162) stdout15:43:51Supplied config could not be found. stdout15:43:51Using default OpenVPN gateway for provider nordvpn stdout15:43:51Setting OPE<a rel="nofollow" href="https://nvpn.net/">NVPN</a> credentials...

I'm not sure how it cannot find that ovpn file as it's sitting there with that account having read/Write permissions. I mounted the file within volume, and set the OPENVPN_CONFIG to the same path so ensure it at least tries to reach it. setting the provider to custom as that link suggests results in it saying nothing but 'cannot find provider: custom' haha
unfortunately i had to remove the OPENVPN_CONFIG as the only value I can find is '' from
Which throws up the error:
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing or extra parameter(s) in :1: html (2.4.4) stdout01
It had me puzzled, saw a thread or two saying take it out and Instead use OPENVPN_COUNTRY but never really saw a proper explanation as to why haha :)
Well the ban on duckduckgo struck me very hard as it's my default search engine. And bangs I use are awesome. I'm using PROTONVPN premium for now. Let us pray that they will unban duckduckgo, reddit, myanimelist, discord.
I am also free user, and I am getting around 6mbps for Japan server. I am good with that.. once I my work has become better. I will become paid user to redeem my “sin” as free user. Hands down, best free VPN that respect people privacy.
THANK YOU PROTONVPN!!
And I feel the three countries that ProtonVPB is free has good speed. I am getting around 6 mbps. I am in Asia in a country that blocked Reddit and currently connected to Japan. Once again.. THANK YOU PROTONVPN!!
Does setting an "OPENVPN_CONFIG" to = one of the files in here work to bypass it using the ?
I had that error with a different VPN Provider because the doesn't exist or it was pointing to a non existent .opvn file.
I'm hoping someone is able to help me with transmission: No matter what config from PROTONVPN (i.e. .ovpnI am putting in for the config field my ipcheck torrent is reporting the same IP: 62.112.9.165. I was checking this one out actually! I couldn't get the docker image to run even when filling out the params. Here's basically what I'm passing:
docker run --cap-add=NET_ADMIN -d \
--name transmission-openvpn \
-v /mnt/usbstorage/Downloads:/data \
-v /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro \
-e CREATE_TUN_DEVICE=true \
-e OPENVPN_PROVIDER=WINDSCRIBE \
-e OPENVPN_CONFIG=US-Central-udp \
-e OPENVPN_USERNAME=[myusername] \
-e OPENVPN_PASSWORD=[mypassword] \
-e WEBPROXY_ENABLED=false \
-e LOCAL_NETWORK=[my server's IP] \
--log-driver json-file \
--log-opt max-size=10m \
-p 9091:9091 \
haugene/transmission-openvpn

It doesn't give any errors when I run it but it doesn't show up in docker ps when I check.
Here you can see all the available configs for winscribe:
And the you use the variable OPENVPN_CONFIG to choose which one to use.
It's all spelled out on that page I gave you. I know because I used it to get AirVPN working.
change OPENVPN_PROVIDER=PUREVPN to OPENVPN_PROVIDER=CUSTOM. Download your .ovpn file, place it in the same directory as your file, and rename it to . mount the .ovpn file as a volume like this:
''
your docker-compose file still needs OPENVPN_USERNAME and OPENVPN_USERNAME entries, but they might not have to be your actual username and password if the credentials are bundled into the .ovpn.
I don’t know if it’ll help but I found this post regarding setting up for NVPN via steam config, it might shed some light on the situation for you
;utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Maybe you could try to reset your network ( and after that reinstall NVPN application.
If that doesn't help, I suggest you to contact their support team.
In working with their support team, we tried a bunch of different combinations including lynx, Obfuscated servers etc... Nothing helped😭 I have a 300Mbps connection that typically tests around 350 and sometimes even upto 450 during night. That connection when on NVPN hardly ever touches 20Mbps. With Obfuscated servers it dropped to 5Mbps.🤷♂️
Is NordVPN up to date? They've introduced a couple of fixes in the last month or so. If it is, try uninstalling/reinstalling.
You could also set NordVPN to only run in your browser, using the chrome/firefox extension that you can find on their stores. I do that since Netflix/Hulu hate VPN's (or, at least my NordVPN) so I disable NVPN on my system and the browser I use for those, and just use NVPN for my other browsing.
In any event, though, Nord shouldn't be doing what it's doing so it needs to be updated/reinstalled. If it doesn't work, try running sfc & dism scans on your system since it would likely be a problem in your OS. Google for how.
You have a few options:
Use PROTONVPN and choose Australia #13 (Bad Connection)
Or use ExpressVPN (Not some modded dodgy apk because they don't work) I'm ExpressVPN make sure you go to settings and use UDP connection and connect to Peru.
Yes, you should consider a VPN.
ExpressVPN is recommended higher than NordVPN due to having 24/7 customer service that's actually effective. It's a good option for first timers due to all the support. It has a high number of international servers.
Nord has more IP addresses and less country options, which is fine for streaming and whatnot. If you're confident in your technical ability to noodle till you get it right, Nord is a bit more cost effective.
There are a number of other services as well, though EVPN and NVPN are the two highest rated services. Both have 30 day trial periods.
Also, with some tinkering, you can get international TV and streaming, which is pretty cool.. BBC iPlayer ftw
Without knowing what you have done here is how i got it working:
Start the container and watch the logs for any error messages.
Thanks. I'm not sure what the video card extension plate is. That doesn't sound like anything that has ever come with my graphic cards. Doing some lite Googling revealed that the ext. plate might be from Dell only and you can only get when you buy the computer. This is a post I found about the part. Someone online said "GPU card straight extender NVPN 320-0867-000 or 320-0867-001." The numbers are a part number.
@zoswizard Thanks for the heads up. I never checked for DNS leaks since configuring ProtonVPN. When I read your post I checked and sure enough, my DNS was leaking. I reset my network, connected to PIA VPN, no DNS leak, disconnected, then connected to ProtonVPN. My VPN now leaks. The strange part is when I disconnect ProtonVPN and go back to PIA, my DNS still leaks until I reset my network. Not sure why ProtonVPN leaks DNS, hopefully someone else has some insight. BTW...I am using Ubuntu-MATE 16.04.3, connecting to VPN using OPENVPN.
Update: I am now seeing random dns leaks with some PIA connections as well.
1st I have used most of them so I agree ExpressVPN WAS the best. I just had a year contract expire.
I however switched to ProtonVPN for my new year contract. They are better than ExpressVPN on several levels. Below was enough for me. All done with OPENVPN. They even offer a free one.
Besides the obvious Proton is just faster. Like I doubled my speed.
There No Logs Policy
Under Swiss law, we are not obligated to save any user connection logs, nor can we be forced to perform targeted logging on specific users. This allows us to ensure that your private browsing history does in fact stay private and cannot be turned over to a third party under any circumstances.
Here are the commands I used:
set interfaces openvpn vtun0 config-file set firewall modify OPENVPN_ROUTE rule 10 action modify set firewall modify OPENVPN_ROUTE rule 10 description 'IPVanish group to vtun0' set firewall modify OPENVPN_ROUTE rule 10 modify table 1 set firewall modify OPENVPN_ROUTE rule 10 source group address-group {group name} set interfaces ethernet eth6 vif 5 firewall in modify OPENVPN_ROUTE set protocols static table 1 interface-route 0.0.0.0/0 next-hop-interface vtun0
Then create a new NAT rule with masquerade, source address(es) you want to go to VPN, and select outbound port to vtun0.
You've likely done some or all of these steps already. I just wanted to share what I used that worked for me.
Also, in case you're wondering, "OPENVPNVIAPIA" was my horrific attempt at naming an interface "OpenVPN via Private Internet Access".
I would recommend any BTC wallets, unless on a market ofc, to be used on clearnet. In the past people have gotten their wallets hacked from using tor. Hackers can take over or create their own Tor "exit node" and somehow get into your blockchain. Also, I would recommend using LBC on clearnet as well. This is because when you buy bitcoins on LBC via tor it tells the seller your using tor. You might not think this is a big deal but say you were purchaseing BTC from LE on LBC. They would see your using tor and give them a reason to follow the blockchain. If you do use tor to buy on LBC then I would recommend tumbling. If you don't feel safe on clearnet just buy a VPN. NVPN is a good one and they take BTC too. It's $6-$8 a month depending if you want a dedicated IP or not.
Do you see any connection attempts in the VPN logs?
Can you verify the connection is actually hitting the server by running a packet capture?
I would just start by ensuring its actually Shorewall. You could also just turn off Shorewall and run without a firewall to ensure thats all working first.
