You might be using Gmail, but instead should be using Inbox by Gmail. Seriously. It's way better than Gmail, though for some reason slower in terms of scrolling, the whole interface just feels much easier and organized to navigate.
Not true. I installed the APK last night and it auto-updated even though it's delisted. On my Pixel i was able to long-press the icon, and choose Play Store to find it directly in the play store. Direct link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
This is the single greatest email app of all times. The hero of modern times. The singularity. This is making Skynet your bitch and sort emails from spam for you. And it even recognize multiple kind of spams. The best of the best, the butter on my bread, the avatar of the Inbox Zero ideology itself. This is Inbox, by Gmail.
I would not use tabs for different menu options. This makes it feel like a multi-page form, which are the bane of every user's existence. My first thought would be to do a typical, albeit a bit lengthy, 1 page form.
Also problematic is, arguably but traditionally, tabs are used for different sortings of the same content. I saw arguably because over time they've began to be used for a other purposes, but not necessarily for the better.
Specifically the design spec on tabs says:
> Tabs enable content organization at a high level, such as switching between views, data sets, or functional aspects of an app.
For the FAB button it's usually used to initiate a task rather than complete one. By that I mean you would use a FAB to "open up a send email form", but you would use a different button to actually send the email. Typically that "complete task" button would be up in the action bar. I can't seem to find an screenshot of the compose screen, but Inbox does this very well
As for the editText/Title it feels OK and makes sense, but I'm not positive and can't seem to find anything in the spec about using titles appropriately. Truthfully I'd need to feel it out in a prototype to tell you 100% either way.

On this device, you can not access Inbox from a browser. Please download the Inbox app or open Gmail.
I know it's available on the Google Inbox App
Inbox by Gmail 4/5 stars (379,603 ratings) Your email inbox should help you live and work better, but instead it often buries the important stuff and creates more ... I'll try to address a couple things. I see weather widget, battery percentage, and bluetooth problems have been addressed.
edit: Also I highly recomend you try Inbox with your gmail, it's the best email app I've ever used.
I'd say give Inbox a try. Also, on Android you have bunch more options than in iOS. Go wild on the PlayStore, I'm sure you'll find something worthwhile. Boxer looks interesting.
I'm coming back soon! I've been an Android user forever and spend a year with a iPhone 5S. Really can't held anything against this goddamn phone, it's great, but I love Android!
They only hid the page. Try this link and make sure it opens through the Play Store app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
Alternatively, go to the left sidebar and click on "My apps and games." If you recently downgraded the Inbox app, it should be right at the top.
Click on it, then click on the 3 dots on the top-right, and uncheck "Enable auto update." Then it won't update by itself.
Make sure to not accidentally click on "update all" in the Play Store later, otherwise it will update regardless of that setting.
"Inbox" is always good. Still trustable since it's made by google but it's pretty well thought out compared to the current Gmail app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
Oh yeah, those things. I'd have a look myself to see if I could block them but I'm not rooted atm so it'd be a bit annoying.
You could use Inbox instead of Gmail. The layout is more or less the same but it doesn't have those promotions.
faci asta, sau instalezi Inbox de la google si o sa primesti notificari doar de la mailuri relevante, au un sistem de filtrare foarte fain.

Ever since I've used Google Inbox I have not been able to go back to another mailbox again, on Android or PC. Automatic segregation makes it so easy to manage your email.
I would highly recommend using the reminders feature in Inbox by Gmail. Especially if you're using Gmail (all your email will be in Inbox), and Google Calendar also shows all reminders.
Using the custom, repeatable reminders with optional snooze function will give you all the notifications you need on Android.
Complaining about apps being removed and saying they should combine every single Google app into one app are two massively different things.
Anyway,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.music
Not sure, I use the Inbox app by Gmail app and my notifications work fine on that. If it worked before and stopped working after an update then downgrading will probably fix it.
I know that my reminders shows up in my calendar and in Inbox through the reminders category.
And I don't think you can alter Google Assistant's default behavior.
I only noticed I was having the same problem this morning when I discovered I had three days worth of backlogged emails from two accounts. Couldn't fix it so I've switched the the Microsoft Outlook app temporarily. My first attempt at a quick fix was downloading Inbox by Gmail but it wouldn't even let me log in with my Google account to set it up - it kept giving me this error message. So I'm assuming it's a problem affecting all Gmail and related apps on Nougat.
Thanks for that.
Do you prefer one over the other, or are they on the same level but in different ways?
I'm not a fan of most of the default apps, but there's a lot of good alternatives you can use. I like Inbox for e-mail.
Whats the best way to create an adapter for a ListView that supports adding multiple headers at different locations of the list (i.e. something like the functionality offered by the inbox app on Android)?
I started using Google Inbox and haven't had an issue getting my emails pushed right away. Another plus is Google added the option to delete emails instead of just mark as "done" in the Inbox app now. This is what made me go back to the original Gmail app last year when Inbox came out. I actually don't mind Inbox now over Gmail.

Try using Inbox to make your Google Now reminders. It's also just a great email app. There's even a widget for quick reminders.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
Or Google Keep
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.keep
It's a new feature of inbox.
Here's Google, one of the biggest violators, doing their best to piss people off: Inbox
"Bug fixes and performance improvements"
Fuck you. I would've preferred the more direct, "Go buy an iPhone".
But here are a couple of examples of devs doing it right:
Try Inbox by Gmail.
I suggest using the Inbox app instead of Gmail. It works better on mobile than the default Gmail app.
You are not alone in this feeling. Going back to the Dark Ages of email is traumatizing.
I have not found a single alternative to Inbox after having scoured the entire internet for an embarrassing amount of time. I downloaded all kinds of email clients and none of them have changed the way email is processed like Inbox has.
Google claims to eventually add Inbox-like features to Gmail as they continue to work on Gmail, or so they say in their condescending "transition guide." I'm not holding my breath that Gmail will ever be like Inbox.
The closest thing I've found to replace AI bundles is Edison Mail, but it's a mobile-only app and it's definitely no Inbox. It has pre-defined bundles but presented in a sidebar and not inside your inbox. Some people like Spark, but I tried it, and I can't do it. I can't work without the bundles anymore. All these mail apps feel like clones of each other. And they do nothing to reduce my email processing time.
I think the best we can do at the moment is voice our opinion to Google as loudly as we can to ensure that the things we love about Inbox are truly ported over to Gmail at some point.
I've been told that the best way to have your input heard is by submitting feedback in the app like so:
All submissions are read. But you may not receive a response, unless Google needs further information.
I also went ahead left a review for Inbox and Gmail on the App Store. I assume the developers or someone in Google has to process the feedback in those reviews. I'm honestly not sure why I never thought to leave Inbox a glowing review before.

And here are links if you want to rant about Gmail.

Why don't you try Inbox by Gmail. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
Inbox has a "create reminder" widget.
Yeah, this iOS version of this one.
> Can you link the inbox usage stats?
Google doesn't release that sort of data, as far as I can tell. Since they pulled Inbox from the Play Store, I can't check how many downloads it had before getting pulled, but I found this screenshot showing Gmail with 1B downloads and and Inbox with 10M downloads. This was back in 2017. Currently Gmail has over 5B downloads. This is the latest archive of the Play Store page I can find on the Wayback Machine, from January of 2019, at 10M downloads.
If my math is right, that comes out to about 0.2% of Gmail users ever downloading Inbox. Obviously Android app downloads don't account for all users, but I think that paints a pretty good picture of the kind of adoption rate Inbox had. At that point, it's kind of a no-brainer for Google to stop development of what's essentially an add-on to an existing product, that only 0.2% of the original product's market is even using, and 0.0% of them are paying for.
u/Cyno01 in that thread could've used some help from Inbox by Gmail, lol.
I'm able to use it, just have to go to the (hidden) Google Play page and disable auto updates.
It's a free app made by Google. To me, it is like a spiritual successor to Mailbox (which is perhaps my favorite email client of all time). Mailbox was shut down a few years ago.

Google's shutting Inbox down though :(

I still use Pocket myself, but Inbox works pretty well for this
I use Inbox by Gmail
Are you sure you didn't accidentally install Inbox? The GMail app itself looks pretty unchanged.
Inbox by Gmail: Awesome mail app by Google. Focused on keeping your inbox clean and organized.
Nova Launcher Prime: This is a must. This launcher should be the one Google ships on their phones.
Sync for reddit: Personal preference to most, but sync is my favourite by far. AMOLED mode works perfectly (uses pure black for most of the display, reducing battery use).
Google authenticator: You really need to set up two factor autenication for as many of your accounts that will use it. The "Google Prompt" works well, but Authenticator is a needed backup. [g.co/svv]
Spotify: By far the best music app. Works flawlessly across devices. Download saved songs to device to use without data.
Messenger: You'll hear a lot of people saying this app is poorly optimized (battery drains, etc) but this definitely is not the case for me. Use this as your default SMS app and keep all your SMS and FB messages in one app. Perfect material design implimentation, every feature you could really ask for in a messeging app (stickers, gifs, location, spotify, (optional) private end-to-end encrypted chats)
Join by joaoapps: A great free replacent for pushbullet. I ask you to pay the one-time $5 upgrade cost (making kick ass apps isn't free). Push files from your computer(s) to your phone an visa versa. Text from your computer(s). You can even type directly into a text field on your phone from your computer.
Marshmallow Nova: Use with Nova launcher to replace all the shitty new icons that come with the Pixel launcher.
Ex iOS user. Feel free to PM me if you need anything else too.
Email
I use Inbox. Never used Spark. It has swipe features and read all for categories etc.
Reddit
Antenna isn'was my pick on iOS too. I like Slide for Reddit. Other people like Swipe for Reddit, Boost for Reddit, Relay for Reddit, Now for Reddit, Reddit is Fun and BaconReader for Reddit.
Podcasts
If you're using Google Play Music (Googles own music player/store, comes preinstalled) podcasts are integrated in certain countries (USA is one, not sure about others, I know it's not available in the UK yet). I'm a big fan of Pocket Casts, though.
YouTube
OGYouTube
Adblockers
AdAway (needs rooting - only possible on the Exynos version of the phone, this is the best solution), AdGuard (paid), Block This. ~~I use AdAway, not sure if it's the best.~~
Here's the link in the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
You can also use it in the browser too instead of gmail.
Does nobody use Inbox?
it's a free app, takes over gmail.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.inbox
Meh, just use Inbox.
